Trying to delete an empty folder from desktop

there are a couple of empty folders on the desktop of my kid's mac mini. i am unable to get rid of them. when i try to move them to trash i get a finder window asking for my admin password which i enter. i get no error msg to say the password is incorrect (i know it's correct) and no msg indicating that it can't be deleted or anything but it remains on the desktop.
it's driving me crazy.....i have tried on and off over the last few months but it just won't budge.
any ideas?

g'day !

  • Can't rectify a problem after  trying to delete the Movie folder from iDisk

A little while ago I deleted the folder named "Movies" from my iDisk. I had never used it so I thought I could just get rid of it. Since then whenever I start the laptop, presumably at the stage it syncs the iDisk, I get the message.. ...There is a problem deleting the folder "Movies" . You do not have permission to delete this folder. You can check your permissions in the Info panel in the Finder.
Its as if the command to try to delete this folder is undoable but simply won't go away. Its really irritating. I accept I'll have to live with the folder, I just want to get rid of the recurring message.
I can see now that the Movie folder is one I'm going to have to live with!
How can I get back to the default folder setup so this message doesn't come up any more.
By the way, The "permissions" on the iDisk say that I have read / write privileges.
    Many thanks... iain B

Double click the Trash icon in the Dock.
In the window that opens up, highlight and right click the application folder entry.
Select  "Put Back" from the contextual menu.
If not, restore from your backup.

I am trying to delete an XLS file from a network drive and am getting a message that says the file cannot be deleted because it is in use.  I can't see where it is in use and have tried to reboot the computer to no avail.  I can delete other files but several XLS files are giving me this message.

You said it was a network drive.  So is someone else on the network using that same file or may have have left with excel still accessing it on their system?

  • How can I delete a photo folder from my iphone 4s?

how can I delete a photo folder from my iphone 4s?

    Hey Ravengirlaa,
Great question! The answer is going to depend on how the photos were originally organized:
    A) The albums were synced to your iPhone from iTunes
    B) The albums were manually created on your iPhone from photos in the Camera Roll
The following excerpt would apply for situation B:
excerpt from page 71 of the iPhone User Guide - http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf
If the photos were synced from your computer, please refer to this article (section "To delete photos and videos from your device"):

  • Can I remove download folder from desktop without deleting

My Downloads folder has gotten on my desktop and now to remove it I have to put it in the trash and lose all my downloads. Is there something else I can do? It is already on my dock and in finder, but once I put the download folder from the desktop in the trash it removes my downloads from finder and the dock.

Open a Finder window and navigate to your User directory (it will typically have folders including Desktop, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures). Click the arrow to the left of Desktop and you should see the Downloads folder that is currently on your desktop. Drag that Downloads folder (or the Downloads folder on your desktop -- they are the same) to the blank space in the Finder window below the other folders -- i.e., below Documents, Movies, etc.)

  • Deleting an empty folder

    Hi,
    Hi,
I have an empty folder in the trash which I have been trying to delete using all the various methods that I have been able to find so far. Just using the standard "empty Trash" function under Finder gives the following message, "This operation cannot be completed because the item (and then) "-NNNN over 000FS+ Private Data" is locked. I have checked the permissions - all OK. It does NOT show as being locked. The operating system is OS 10.3.9

  • Delete a .csv file from desktop system

    Hi All,
My requirement is to read the .csv file from the desktop system having the shared folder and delete the file after read successfully.
Here I can read the .csv file from the location using the function RFC_REMOTE_FILE and updated the content into internal table.
But I cant delete the file from the presentation server ( Desktop system).
Can anyone tell me how to delete the .csv file from the desktop system on different location.
    Note:
I followed this link to read file:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/9831750a-0801-0010-1d9e-f8c64efb2bd2&overridelayout=true

    Hi Rob,
Thanks. I solved this problem myself.
The solution to delete the file from remote system is
concatenate 'DEL' i_filename i_dirname into v_bkfile separated by space .
    call function 'RFC_REMOTE_EXEC'
      destination  c_dest
      exporting
        command               = v_bkfile
      exceptions
        system_failure        = 1  MESSAGE v_ermsg
        communication_failure = 2  MESSAGE v_ermsg.

  • Deleting hidden opt folder from HD

I'm trying to find a way of deleting a hidden folder named "opt" that can only be seen in the string of files left over from a previous installation of Check Point's Secure Client. It contains a sub folder "CPsrsc-50" that I believe is preventing a Secure Client upgrade from being installed.
Is this a job for Terminal and if so what do I enter to delete this folder?
    Thanks.

    Matthew
If you're a nervous novice with the terminal (and so am I) there are several ways to 'see' invisible files. One such is Pathfinder (http://www.cocoatech.com), an alternative to the Finder. (On the menu bar ->View -> Sow Invisible Files). You can download a fully functional demo.
There are other utilities that will do this also.
One caveat: There are a lot of hidden files out there, and most are hidden to prevent people who aren't very sure what they are doing from doing damage. So delete with extreme caution.

  • I accidentally deleted the documents folder from my hard drive. can I recover it?

I accidentally deleted the documents folder (and its contents) from my ibook hard drive. Can I recover it?

It takes a really expensive data recovery service to get back things that have been deleted.
You could try Data Rescue 3, if you're desperate to get the documents back.
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php
    System Requirements:
    http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue_sysreq.php
If you want to try this, stop using the iBook immediately, and wait until you get the recovery software because every time you save something to your hard drive (even if it's only a link in your browser history), you risk overwriting the files you deleted.
