Trying to delete content and settings from iPhone 4 and restoring with an iBackUpBot backup?

So after iOS 7, I'm experiencing a lot of problems with my iPhone 4 (8gb) with things like the storage filling up too easily with messages. I read a lot of articles online on how to fix the problem and I'm using iBackUpBot to delete all of the SMS attachments. I already did that and I'm ready to put the backup on my phone, but I have to erase all content and settings (right?). So I go into the settings and when I press "Erase All Content and Settings", it comes up with a screen that says "Enter Passcode." I assumed it was your Apple ID password so I entered that but it said "1 Failed Passcode Attempt." Is there any other way to wipe your phone? I have wiped my phone before but I don't remember this happening and I definitely don't remember setting some sort of passcode for this. Or do you reset your phone? I'm just very confused and really need help because it just seemed so easy in the articles I read. All answers are extremely appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi lparisi1117!
If you have made backups and confirmed that they are saved, then you can completely erase the phone by using the information in this article to put the phone in recovery mode:
