Then you might check at any of the other university book stores or software stores or any computer store in town for the 64-bit version.
If you want to use the 32-bit version from the school (you probably get it for free or very cheap) then you could purchase Parallels and run it as a virtual machine concurrently with OS X. There are some caveats:
    1. You have to purchase Parallels (there may be an academic discount.) List is $79.95.
    2. Your computer needs minimally 4 GBs of RAM, but realistically 8 GBs would be better.
    3. Parallels creates a pseudo-drive on your hard drive. It could easily require 50 GBs of disk space.
Accommodating these might be more costly than buying 64-bit Windows 7. And, if you look online you may find them with an academic discount (or may be able to order it through the school.)

    Hi!
Can you follow the steps listed at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles to create a new profile and see if it works on there?
Also, please try performing the steps below again. Each is separated with a horizontal line.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. <br>
'''Note''': ''This will cause you to lose any Extensions and some Preferences.''
*Open websites will not be saved in Firefox versions lower than 25.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
    #Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the [[Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems]] article.

  • Spring clean: re-installing everything I need, and nothing else

    Hello,
I wonder if anyone can advise me on order of installing Creative Suite applications? I currently have all of CS4, all of CS5, and all of the CS5.5 Creative Suite applications installed. It's cluttered and I don't like it. And I'd like to have CS3 back, but know I can't do it in the wrong order.
I'm thinking of doing a big renewal my Mac by doing a clean re-install of Snow Leopard, then installing the following applications in the following order:
    1. InDesign CS3 (but not the rest of the applications in the Suite)
    2. InDesign CS4 (but not the rest of the applications in the Suite)
    3. All applications of CS5.5 Creative Suite.
Does this sound like a bad idea? I never use the earlier versions of Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop etc. but I need different versions of InDesign to deal with various clients, saving down, etc..
Any advice would be much appreciated -- Jeremy

So far, all of your advice seems to have come up trumps... For what it's worth, I've done a clean install of Lion, re-installed and updated InDesign 5.0.4, 6.0.6, 7.5.1 (skipping 5.0) and all other applications of CS 5.5 Design Premium.
It's early days yet, but the transition went smoothly and so far they all seem to be playing nicely with each other. (I don't have the CS3/4 printer crashing problem as my work computer doesn't even have a printer installed).
Thanks to all again -- I really appreciate it -- Jeremy

  • I am trying copy dvd's (with no luck) to my macbook and then on to an external hard drive.  What appears to be "copied" on the hard drive comes up with an error when you try to view the movies.

I am new to the Apple community and am having a lot of trouble.  I am using a Macbook Pro and attempting to copy movies to an external hard drive for my husbands upcoming travels.  I have used the "disk utility" and was able to watch the movie from my Pro but have not been able to figure out how to copy it to the external hard drive.  I have a few movies on the external hard drive already but when he tries to view them from his Macbook Air or even the Pro we are unable to do so.  An error message comes up and we are not able to determine what we need to do to fix this.  We are not computer savvy and would appreciate if someone could explain to us how to resolve this problem.  Thank you for all and any help we can get.

  • Install on both Macbook and iPad

    Hi everyone,
I would like to know if is is possible to buy an application only once and then install it on both my iPad and my Macbook ?
(the app exists on both "stores" and as it is expensive I don't want to buy it twice)
    Thanks!!

As Csound1 stated they aren't the same, but from looking at their website the functionality may be the same or very similar. http://applications.3d4medical.com/essential_anatomy_5/
You may want to contact them directly regarding functionality differences: http://applications.3d4medical.com/contact/
From their FAQ support section: http://applications.3d4medical.com/support/faq.php
If I buy the iPad/iPhone version can I download for free on my Mac?
Unfortunately no. Separate apps will have to be purchased if you'd like to use on your iPad/iPhone and Mac. The reason for this is that each app runs on a different operating system -- iPad/iPhone on iOS and Mac on OSX. Because of this, apps for each platform have to be developed from the ground up and are sold separately through the Mac and iTunes App Stores. We'd love the ability to offer discounts if customers purchased apps for both platforms, however, Apple does not provide a vehicle for us to do so.
Also note that in addition to the original cost there are In App Purchases that may further increase the cost (at least for the iPad version). The following quote is from https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/essential-anatomy-5/id596684220?mt=8
    IN APP PURCHASES:
In-app purchases allow additional muscle and skeletal content to be downloaded and accessed from within the app. These boosts add muscle insertion and origin points, skeletal bone parts and surfaces and 100s of animations detailing movements for each articulation.

  • I am trying to do a clean install MacBook Pro

I am trying to do a clean install on my Dad's older MackBook Pro. He downloads things he shouldn't and after frustrations trying to wipe ou trojans and bad files I just decided that the only way to make this thing work again is to clean install it. It was already running yosemite when I started.
    I followed the directions at
    www.osxdaily.com/2014/10/18/clean-install-os-x-yosemite/
I used a flash drive to install os x yosemite installer and made it bootable per the instructions on the site.
Everything seemed to work fine, I loaded the drive as the statup disk, I erased the partitions and the hard drive with disk utitilies using the installer flash drive.
However when I try to start to Install Os X it runs for about 10 minutes and then gets stuck at "one second left" I accessed the log errors and got this

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup,  preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

Some MacBook Pro versions cannot be upgraded past 10.6.8; others are maxed out at 10.7.5. newer models can go all the way to 10.10. So it is important to know exactly what version you have--there may be close to 40 variants produced since the MB made its debut in 2006.
You can safely give us a snapshot of your model and its current config that will allow us to deternmmine your model and its upgrade potential, plus show it you have any software that may impede any upgrades. Please download and install this free utility:
    http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
It is secure and written by one of our most valued members to allow users to show details of their computer's configuration in Apple Support Communities without revealing any sensitive personal data.
Run the program and click the "Copy report to clipboard" button when it displays the results. Then return here and paste the report into a response to your initial post. It can often show if any harmful files/programs are dragging down your performance.
Remember that, on leaving OS10.6.8, you lose the ability to run older softare written for older PowerPC Macs (yours in Intel-based). Programs such as Office 2004 will no longer work (min of Office 2008 needed to work on newer OS versions), and AppleWorks will stop working completely

  • Help Please! Trying to do a clean install of Snow Leopard on a new drive

I'm trying to help a family member with his Mac Mini.
He installed a new HD and we're trying to do a clean install of Snow Leopard from the DVD. I've tried booting to the DVD by holding the C key during boot up and that does nothing. I've tried mounting his HD on my Macbook and installing that way and that doesn't work either.
How do I install this if you don't have an OS on you drive to boot up to?

    Michael Brown1 wrote:

    Partition tab, Options button.
Is it possible to load the OS onto the Mini from my Macbook? I can see the installation DVD and the HD on the mini from my Macbook, but when I try to install I get a warning that it can't be installed on that volume.
It's been a while since I tried something like that, but it worked in the past. It may be complaining because the partition table is not set correctly.
I couldn't find anything about installing on another drive. I did find this old [MacFixIt article|http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10329087-263.html] that you might find useful if you've got an external drive. Essentially, you partition it (not necessary for what you want), make an image of the Installer and then restore the image to the external drive. You can then use that drive as the boot drive. That was for Leopard, so I don't know if it will work.
