Trying to do a re-install!!!!

Hi everyone,
so a colleague's MBP 15' running 10.6.4 was having a few minor issues. Once we'd run the Disk Utility to verify the disk it showed up some issues that required booting from the DVD to repair. However, the MBP refused to boot from the CD. I eventually hooked it to my MBP and booted it as a target drive. Disk was repaired ok. But........
the MBP in question still refuses to boot from the installation DVD (original and working fine on mine). I wanted to do a OSX re-install to see if this would solve the problem but it won't re-install, it gets part way through goes to restart the MBP then won't boot up. I've now tried doing a remote install but it won't see the network (airport) on boot up (holding option to see available start-up disks).
Anyone got any clues? It's really starting to Pi## me off.

Also, it's possible he has a bad drive. If he's been experiencing issues, and it's culminated in an unbootable machine, it could be a hardware failure, rather than a bad OS X install. If Disk Utility, Safe Boot, and fsck/fsck_hfs can't sort out his drive, it might be best to haul it to an Apple Store to have them inspect its components (unless you want to invest in something like Disk Warrior ⇪ first).

I am trying to do a clean install MacBook Pro

I am trying to do a clean install on my Dad's older MackBook Pro. He downloads things he shouldn't and after frustrations trying to wipe ou trojans and bad files I just decided that the only way to make this thing work again is to clean install it. It was already running yosemite when I started.
I followed the directions at

I used a flash drive to install os x yosemite installer and made it bootable per the instructions on the site.
Everything seemed to work fine, I loaded the drive as the statup disk, I erased the partitions and the hard drive with disk utitilies using the installer flash drive.
However when I try to start to Install Os X it runs for about 10 minutes and then gets stuck at "one second left" I accessed the log errors and got this

Click on the blue Internet Recovery in nbar's post. That is a link to what computers can run Internet Recovery.
Do a backup, preferable 2 separate ones on 2 drives. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect: Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?

Help Please! Trying to do a clean install of Snow Leopard on a new drive

I'm trying to help a family member with his Mac Mini.
He installed a new HD and we're trying to do a clean install of Snow Leopard from the DVD. I've tried booting to the DVD by holding the C key during boot up and that does nothing. I've tried mounting his HD on my Macbook and installing that way and that doesn't work either.
How do I install this if you don't have an OS on you drive to boot up to?

Using BootCamp I installed windows and everything worked fine. After installing windows and testing everything, I switched back to OS X and this time I tried to make another partition on my single portioned Mac volume and named it Backup. That too worked. Now I have three Volumes
1)Development2)Backup3)BootCamp.
Next when I switched to Windows, It should the classic error, No Bootable device found, please insert a Bootable CD and press any key. When I tried to enter my Mac OS X install DVD and by pressing option key, it does not show me the proper Mac OS X development volume. It keeps going back to the No bootable device found message.
Any help will be much appreciated

you can't add a partition in between - you put Windows to a new partition number.

And now you have two HFS
One partition and one Windows (plus Lion Recovery).
If you were to have more, it can't be before Windows for one thing.

I have tried repairing with the disk utility, resetting PRAM, booting in safe mode (which gave a subset of the errors that 'disk repair' did- namely- 'invalid sibling link,invalid record count, invalid node structure, invalid key length) and finally trying to get to archive&install the o/s, but it cannot find the destination volume. Hold down the option key while starting iTunes and make an new library. Will it open then? If so, you have a bad library. With the new library import the library.xml version of the file in your iTunes folder. This will make it 90% like before (some metadata are not identical, but I don't know which ones).
