Trying to download itunes, windows installer package error

im trying to download itunes but when i do it says
"there is a problem with this windows installer package. a program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. contact your support personnel or package vendor."
is this an itunes problem or a windows problem? someone please help!

I had the same problem trying to install version 8.0.1, I went to my control panel then to add/remove programs and I removed the windows installer from my computer. It does give a warning that certain programs may not work but it did not effect my computer. I tried the install of iTunes again and it worked. My computer used the iTunes installer since the windows installer no longer existed. After iTunes update was completed I then reinstalled the windows installer program.

  • Cannot install itunes, windows installer package error

I've been looking around for a solution and I still can't find one that is specifically for my case. I've never had itunes before (well I guess I did but THAT never installed for some reason).
Anyways, I can't install the latest itunes (and I tried itunes 9 as well), it keeps giving me this message:
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
I tried everything! I uninstalled everything and redid the installation. I did this method with the extract.bat to get the msi files to individualling install from the itunes64setup.exe...the only msi files that don't download and give me that error are the updater and actual itunes msi file.
    I'm on a:
    Acer Aspire 8930G
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    Service Pack 2
    x64 OS

    Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install
If you don't find ASU, go to Control Panel:
START/CONTROL PANEL/Programs n Features /highlight ASU and click CHANGE then REPAIR,

  • Cant install itunes 10.6 no matter what i try! (Windows installer package error)

    I cant install itunes !
I downloaded the latest version from the offcial site, and everytime i try to install it it stops half way due to Windows Installer Package error. It says I'm missing a program required to continue this installation.
I've tried removing all the files with removal tools, running it with admin rights, disabling firewalls, User account controls, updated my Windows update to the latest version. Read all the threads and tried everything but it still doesn't work.
    Does any1 have any suggestions?

Download and save a full itunes setup file.
Use Winrar to unzip the file into a folder.  Then right mouse click the file AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi from that folder to install.
If you don't have winrar, you can go to this link to download a free trial version.

These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, 8007000B.)

  • Win 7 64, windows installer package error upon update

trying to update itunes, downloaded 64 bit setup to hard drive, i have a particular hard drive setup and keep everything out of the os drive for ease of a restart if required.  norton informs me its safe, i open the download location select and double click the itunes setup file.  it launches and starts going through the motions and then an error message pops up informing me that i have a windows installer package error.
really annoying as this is the second update i have been unable to install.
    any suggestions please, thank you
    yidboy

again i thank you for your speedy response
i have followed your instruction and still no luck still the same error message regarding the windows package installer, i also tried repairing too, same outcome.
looks like a complete install, im right in asking that itunes will synch with my ipod and restore all music, and vid, and pics.  i ahve a back up in any case and its just as easy to copy/paste these folders directly into itunes, or ad folder via file tab.
but will it leave me with a redundant ipod if the package installer error reoccurs??
    that is the big question

  • Trying to download Itunes and am getting error messages 7 and R6034

Trying to download Itunes and am getting error messages 7 and R6034?

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • Unable to install itunes 10.5 after update issue. "windows installer package error"

So when the update for itunes happened, it wiped my ipod, and then my ipod would not work with itunes. So I uninstalled itunes and tried to reinstall it and it gives me that error message. I have tried all the fixes from deleting everything to running command prompts. I think i tried everything.

Method 2: Open command prompt in elevated mode and, then unregistered and re-register Windows Installer.
    1. In the Start search box and then type 'cmd', when the command application appears at the top of the start window, right click on it and, from the drop down menu, select 'run as administrator' and type each of these commands in the command prompt and press Enter
       • msiexec /unregister
       • msiexec /regserver
msiexec.exe belongs to the Windows Installer Component and is used to install new programs that use Windows Installer package files (MSI)

    3.       Open the Users folder.
    4.       Double-click the folder titled with your username.

    1.       Quit iTunes.
    2.       From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
    3.       In Control Panel, click Uninstall a program. The Programs and Features Control Panel opens.

    6.       After the uninstallation is complete, do not restart your computer if you are prompted to.
    7.       If other program entries were listed for iTunes in Programs and Features remove those as well.
    8.       In Programs and Features, also remove any iPod Updater applications that are listed in the same fashion as you removed iTunes.
Method 6: You may also try downloading the Windows Installer Cleanup utility and run that to remove the leftover ITunes installer files that may be causing issues with your current installation.
You may refer the following article to download the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

I was able to install quick time just fine. All of the other apple software associated with itunes installed fine but itunes did not. Im not sure if there is a virus that could do this. I didnt delete anything but apple folders.
I have tried other things but i cant remember exactly there were.
When the install process for itunes is running it changes with the error message shows up during install.
    Thanks.

I should have posted this earlier, but anyway. I restored my laptop to factory version after backing up any useful data, and the first thing I the laptop was restored was connect to the internet, download and install the latest version of iTunes. And Bingo! It worked.

  • I can't install Itunes because of Windows installer package error, please help!

I tried installing Itunes for a long time on my desktop, I'm running Vista. Everytime I try to install Itunes it runs for a bit, then gives me this message
" There is a problem with Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
I went through many posts on how to solve this problem, I uninstalled and deleted all the files from this thread : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
and tried to reinstall Itunes, didn't work, same error message.
After i tried to install Itunes in Clean boot still didn't work.
I also downloaded MicrosoftFixit.Program which apperantly fixed this problem for some people, not for me.
Then I extracted Itunes and tried to install all the components seperately, everything installed correctly, however when I tried to install Apple Software update
I got the same error message, i think it is the Apple software update that is causing this problem but I have no idea how to solve this problem.
How do I solve this, any thoughts or suggestions???

Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
Now, uninstall Bonjour from Control Panel.

I am so frustrated. I tried everything and cannot download the new itunes. I got the new nano video and can't even use it!

no, I never have resolved it. I spent 1 1/2 hrs on the phone with apple and couldn't figure it out. they finally said it must be something with my windows installer - but I have no problem downloading/installing any other programs.

  • Im trying to download itunes and im getting error 2

im trying to download itunes for my computer and its giving me an error code 2 saying that apple application support was not found. that its required to run itunes helper and to uninstall and reinstall which i have done many times and its still not working someone please help

im trying to download itunes for my computer and its giving me an error code 2 saying that apple application support was not found.
With the Error 2, let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)
