I was trying to upgrade to itunes 11.1.4 and got this message "Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services. Tried to uninstall itunes and reinstall. I now have no itunes on my PC and can't get past this message.
Any suggestions?

Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with updating iTunes. You may want try downloading the latest iTunes update directly from the Apple site. When you are installing it, be sure you are logged in as an administrator:

I receive a massage that a new version of ITunes was available (11.1.4). I proceeded to update, the download went ok but when installing the Message “Service ’Apple Mobile Device’ failed to start, verify that you have sufficient Privileges to start system Services”
On pressing retry I got the same message.
On pressing Ignore, I got the message “ITunes was not installed correctly, please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)
I reinstalled with the same error messages and the same results.
I uninstalled existing and reinstalled from scratch and the same error messages again.
I try to repair and at the end it said it had installed correctly – but when it tried to start I got the message “This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix the problem” I now get the same message when I first start the computer but when I press ok I receive ““ITunes was not installed correctly; please reinstall ITunes – Error 7 – (windows error 126)” again.
It appears the update has not only corrupted the operating system (Xp Pro SP3) of my computer but I have no backups to my IPhone, my wife’s IPhone or the three others phones that use my computer.
I hope you can advise me how to recover my backups

Tried to download and reinstall iTunes after file corrupted. Download proceeds, but does not complete. Message states "Apple mobile device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

My iTunes became corrupted. I tried to upgrade to a new version, but things only got worse. Some of the error messages I received:
APSDaemon - Unable to locate component
This application has failed to start because MSVCR80.dl was not found. Rinstalling the application may fix this problem.
So, I deleted my downloads and past attempts and any .dl files I had and tried again. Now I get this message:
Today: Apple Mobile Device failed to start. Make sure you have sufficient privileges to start system services.

Check for .dll files
Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and C:\Program Files\iTunes and look for .dll files.
If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

These are the steps that I have already taken: un install iTunes (several times), reinstall iTunes (several times), move the .dil files to my desktop (although I have no idea what to do with them now)... I am having this same problem. I took Kappy advice on restarting the Apple Mobile Device Service, however that did not work. I got this message in a pop up window that came up immediately.
Windows could not start the Apple Mobil Device Service on local computer.
Error 1053 The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
I have already uninstalled itunes, all the related programs and I cannot reinstall, this Apple Mobil Device message stops the install.

Go tot the Apple support troubleshooting area I had the same problem. You have to remove all the apple stuff in a particular order then reinstall/dowmload i tunes again it worked for me, a pain yes! Hi, I'm trying to re-install the latest iTunes on my Gateway w/ Windows XP. I had to update it a while back to put songs on my brother's iPod, but my computer froze halfway through and nothing has worked right since.
I keep getting the message "Service 'Bonjour Service' (Bonjour Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."
I looked through older discussions that told me to go to right click My Computer - Manage - Services and Applications - Services - Find Bonjour and restart it.
Well, the only option that I can click on is Start. When I do, it says "Windows could not restart the Bonjour Service service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified."
Where do I go from here? Help would be greatly appreciated, I've been trying to fix this for over a year now with no dice. Also, I cannot do a factory reset (last effort) because it says the administor's account is disabled and I do not have the disc.

Sorry if double posting is a no-no here, but I forgot to add that I've already tried disabling Spyware Doctor.
