Trying to download Lion.

I purchased a new mac mini that has lion pre-installed. I'm trying to download the Lion from the app store and I don't see it under purchased items. I've tried to option click the Purchases tab, holding down the option key when I open the app store and option clicking the OS X Lion link. Doing the last two tricks actually changed the link for the price from 29.99 to installed but clicking installed does not do anything. How can I download lion, I want to create a install disk.
Thanks!

gtribe,
If you feel comfortable, follow these instructions to get the InstallESD.dmg file for your new Mac Mini' pre-installed Lion. I have followed these since version 10.7 which came with my Mac Mini mid-2011.
Either create a partition on your hard drive to install to or use a USB external drive.
Open Terminal from /Applications/Utilities and type diskutil list to list all the partitions on your hard drive.
Look for the Recovery HD in the list and note its identifier. It will be something like disk0s3.
Type diskutil mount readOnly /dev/[identifier]. Replace identifier with the Recovery HD identifier. For example, diskutil mount readOnly /dev/disk0s3
Open Finder, select the Recovery HD in the side bar. In the right pane, open the com.apple.recovery.boot folder. You should see the BaseSystem.dmg file. Double click it. If you don't  see it, mount it by typing in Terminal: hdiutil attach "/Volumes/Recovery HD/com.apple.recover.boot/BaseSystem.dmg"
Open the Mac OS X Base System mount and double-click the Install Mac OS X Lion.app.
The installer launches and begins. Go through the validation and license agreement. When it asks for a disk to install to, select the partition you created or a USB external drive. You may need to click on Show Disks.
Enter your admin password when prompted, and the installer will start downloading. The installer should not continue until the user tells it to.
The installer will download some files into a folder called Mac OS X Install Data on the root of the drive you're installing onto. Of the files it puts there, the InstallESD.dmg.partial file (on my Mac Mini) is the file to watch. It will grow in size during the download which means it's the install image file you will want to capture when the download completes.
Wait for the download to finish. This will take awhile as the download is very large. Once the file finishes downloading, the installer will extract the InstallESD.dmg image from it and delete the InstallESD.dmg.partial file. Don't let the app restart your machine.
When the installer finishes and prompts to Restart, right click the install icon in the Dock and select Quit. The installer will ask for confirmation. Don't confirm yet! Confirming will delete the Mac OS X Install Data folder.
Open Finder and navigate to the Mac OS X Install Data folder.
Copy the InstallESD.dmg file to your desktop or other location.
Confirm the Quit for the Installer. This will delete the Mac OS X Install Data folder.
You can now burn the InstallESD.dmg to a DVD or USB (8GB) thumb drive.
You can Eject the Mac OS X Base System and Recovery HD in Finder.
When you install Lion using the USB thumb drive, you will still need an Internet connection so the install process can download additional components. These steps reduce the download time considerably as you won't need to download the entire OS installer.

A erase of the drive or boot partition is not always necessary.
Flashing question mark at boot could be a easy fix, sometimes it's the firmware that simply forgot what bootable volume to boot from.
Try holding the Option key down while booting the machine, a choice of bootable options appears, select your OS X and boot up.
When you get in, head to System Preferences > Startup disk and set it again new. This will tell the firmware what to boot from. Test it to see.
Now if you don't have a selection of bootable options, it could be that the drive is dead, or OS X is erased or corrupted so it can't boot.
You'll have to run through this list of fixes to see what's going on, if you need a hardware fix or what, I've also included links if you can't fix it and need to recover your data etc.
(If it's not remmebering your boot selection then also run through the list to reset things.)

  • I'm trying to download Lion, but it says it's waiting what do I do?

I'm trying to download Lion, but it says it's waiting what do I do?

I had several attempts, and finally left it over night. There seems to be no on-screen notification of what is going on, so one is blind. Eventually I went to iTunes App Shop, which told me that it had downloaded. I found an installation window (I don't know how) and started the installation, but it stopped; this happened twice. Finally it was installed and I was instructed to restart the machine.
It seems that everythings is undercover now! We just need a bit more patience and a lot more faith.

  • Why am I getting an app store error when trying to download Lion?

Why am I getting an app store error when trying to download Lion? Any ideas?

I would complain really bad and get them to give you a Flash card that they just came out with because they've inconvenienced you so much and  you don't have hours to spend at the apple store waiting for the whole thing to load.
The only thing about the flash cards is that it will change your whole motherboard so it won't allow you to install snow leopard or anything less, ever again. (as what the apple specialist told me over the phone).
I would also suggest waiting. It really isn't worth the hastle and you may not benefit from installing it on your old computer... just a thought.

I can't download Mountain Lion I keep getting a message stating, "Re product distribution file could not be verified, it may be damaged or was not signed". I have tried re-downloading Lion combo 10.7.4 but no good, any more ideas please.

Had the same problem and could solve it. Do you have any Virusscanner software running like for example VirusBarrier ?
The following did the trick for me: I disabled my Virusscanner software and afterwards I could download.
Worst come to worse : delete your security software, reboot and downlaod afterwards. Re-install deleted
software after Mountain Lion has been installed.
    Good luck

  • Trying to download lion, but serial number is not being accepted what can i do?

Im trying to download Lion to a new June 23rd macbook with an up to date Snow Leopard system, but apple doesnt accept my serial number.   What else can I do?

What are you capturing from?  You may not hear the auido as it's captured but it will be there.  After it's captured can you see the audio waveforms? Do the audio meters move when you play the clip?  If so then go to "View" then "Audio Playback"  and set it to 'Built-in Output" if you're monitoring audio through the computer.

Capetowncrooner I would recommend utilizing a different web browser or beginning the installation process within the Creative Cloud Desktop application.  You can find more details at Install and update apps - https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/install-apps.html.

  • Greetings, I have been trying to download Lion but unfortunately in pauses during download and will not continue.  All of the specs seem to be in line for what is needed to download. thanks

    Hello
If anyone has any info on downloading Lion would be greatly appreciated.  The download is in a constant state of pause.  I cannot get it out of the pause phase into active download.  Anyone having similar trouble?
    thx

See if either of these two things help.
Make sure that you do not have a stalled download in iTunes - a song or podcast .... if you have a download in there that did not finish, complete that one first. Only one thing can download at a time on the iPad so that could be what is causing the problem.
If that doesn't work - sign out of your account, restart the iPad and then sign in again.
Settings>Store>Apple ID. Tap your ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and then try to update again.

  • I'm trying to download lion, i can see the icon but is says paused and i can't get it to start the download

I'm trying up upgrade to lion, but having issues.  Then icon is on the screen but it says paused and I can't get it to start the download

Ah, okay. This is a message that comes up when a developer has developed software for the Mac, but has not registered with Apple.  Apple does this to help keep viruses and malware out of your Mac.
To be able to run this, go to System Preferences and the General tap. At the bottom is the option to change this.  Select the section "All applications downloaded from:" and change it to Anywhere.
Just be careful what you install after this and only download from reputable sites (like Apple.com).
    Hope this helps!
