Trying to find an efficient way to share all our music with 2 different apple ids

My wife and I are trying to make more space in the house and burn all of our CDs to itunes (we have close to 800 cds). We do have separate apple ids and separate itunes accounts on our laptops (pc's). We have (2) iphone 5s, our son's ipod touch, and we just bought an ipad mini3.
The majority of our music (85%) is from CDs that we bought and own. Only about 15% did we purchase from the itunes store. We want to burn all of the music onto 1 account/device, but also be able to access that music from all of our devices. We do not want all of our devices to share the same apple ID (i.e. I do a lot of work emails, calendars, etc on my phone as well as my wife on hers). We want to make sure we aren't getting each others text messages, not getting each other's emails, etc. We are hoping the ipad will be the main device for home use, but my wife still wants to be able to access and put those songs on her phone if she wants.
What is the best way to do this? I thought itunes Match but someone had told me that is only for purchased itunes store content and not for CDs that I own.

Hi Razmee209,
Thanks for the reply.
I have already been through this (should have mentioned it in my post).  For some reason i can remove my details on my phone but my mums details are greyed out so cannot get those deleted although they are unchecked.  The same goes for my mums iphone and ipad, my details are there unchecked but are greyed out so cannot be deleted.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how this happened or how to fix it.
Thanks again
Colin

  • Is there any way to share contacts and calendars between different Apple IDs?

Anyone know if this is possible?

You can share calendars through iCloud:

Contacts aren't as simple, but there's a workaround posted here that might help:

Yes.  If you are on the same network, go to Edit > Preferences > Sharing, and click "Share Entire Library."

  • Can I share books between family members with different Apple IDs?

I am trying to share books within my family as we were always able to do with home share in iTunes.  Is this possible? I can phisically move the book file, but must sign in as my Apple ID on my wire's system, effectively removing her library from her iBooks and replacing it iwth mine.  All I want to do is share the book I bought.  How can I do this?

Thanks for the link.  I looked at this and tried it and it sync'd my wife's iBook with my account, so she now had my Apple ID logged into her iBook.  I'd like to be able to share my iBooks with her, but add them to her library as we were able to do with Home Sharing in iTunes.  I want her to be able to use her Apple ID with iBooks, but be able to read some of the books I buy on my account.  Does that make sense?
    Thank you.

  • How do I share music between two iPads each with different apple ids?

I have an iPad retina display and my son has the iPad mini. We have different ids. How do i send my iTunes music to him? My iTunes doesn't seem to have a menu that says file or preferences. Also what is home share? We don't have a desk top. Just the iPads

Home Sharing allows you to share music from a computer to another computer or device, it doesn't work between just devices, it needs a computer.
    Home sharing : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819
You could potentially log in with your account on his iPad and re-download your music (if you are in a country where music can be re-downloaded), but you risk tying his iPad to your account for 90 days (so it's probably not worth it) : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627

  • HT5622 can you still share music on itunes with different apple id?  My daughters and I share the same itunes account but . . noticed this is not a good idea.  Both our contacts get merged.  sometimes my pictures end up on their phone!

Is there a way to share the itunes music with different people in your household without having to share the phone contacts?  Do I need to have a different apple id?

It's ok to share the same AppleID for iTunes.  Use Separate ID's for iCloud, iMessage, and Facetime.

  • I'm trying to find an easier way to import my music to iTunes. Even the most basic music player can scan your computer and import found music into your library. I don't want to move my MP3s into the iTunes folder, I don't want iTunes doing any conversion.

I'm trying to find an easy way to import my MP3 collection into iTunes without moving, copying or changing it.
I can't believe that iTunes doesn't have this feature, as even the most basic music players always have this.
I only use iTunes to sync my iPod, as I like Media Monkey to play my MP3s.
I have 137GB of MP3s, mainly from my ripping my CDs, LPs and downloading from Amazon. I've only purchased a handful of songs from iTunes,
Any ideas on how to do this easily?

It does have that feature. Why would you assume that it doesn't?

    Okay, no problem.
If the top bar menu is not displayed in top left of your iTunes Library, use the CTRL+B keys to turn it on:
On that menu, use File/Add Folder to Library and navigate to the folder you wish to add:
If you wish to add just one song, notice the File/Add File to Library command on that menu as well.
Alternatively, you can drag-and-drop from the file's location into your iTunes Library.
That's all there is to it.
By the way, it is possible to have Amazon MP3s downloaded to your computer and then automatically added to the iTunes Library by the Amazon downloader. I do it all the time.

  • Trying to find software update which will allow me to connect with ipad

Trying to find software update which will allow me to connect with ipad

From the pictures I found, there should be two ports on the back - a firewire 400 and a serial port.  But I'm not clear how many variations of this duet there may actually have been (there is also a duet 2 I saw, but that is clearly distinct from the duet).
If your ports look like that, regardless of the cable, that port on the right is a standard firewire 400 port.  The one on the left looks like a standard serial port to me.
So it seems to me a firewire 400 to firewire 800 cable - http://store.apple.com/us/product/HA833ZM/A/belkin-firewire-800400-9-pin6-pin-ca ble-2-m66-ft coupled with a firewire 800 to thunderbolt adapter should work for you - http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD464ZM/A/apple-thunderbolt-to-firewire-adapte r?fnode=51
They actually have those at the stores usually, so you could take the duet to an Apple store, tell them what you believe you need, and then make sure with them before you actually buy anything.

  • Can I share iTunes with others in my family or do we have to all buy the same songs since we have different apple IDs?

I am new to iTunes and am wondering if I can share iTunes with my family or do we just have to all purchase the same songs multiple times since our devices have different apple ID's.  My iPhone was set up last year to one iTunes ID and I just got an iPad but it has a different apple ID. So I can't even share with myself! It seems stupid to have my husband and I both purchasing the same music.

There are two ways to share your content. The simplest is just to use homesharing. Simply set up homesharing on each device from the iTunes advanced menu (you need to use the same details on each computer), providing the computers are on the same network they should see each other and can be found in the list on the left hand side of the iTunes window.
The second way is to transfer the content to another computer, play it and authorise it to play content from that account by entering the original account password when prompted (this only needs doing once for each account, not for each tune)

I have 2 iphones 4s's, ones my wife and one is mine. we have different apple IDs, can we share one itunes account?? if so, how??

If you haven't set up your own Apple ID already don't.  I suggest you use the same apple ID as your wife's.  The alternative is to do this http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848.  It's not efficient as you have to swap apple id's to update apps under both IDs.  20/20 being hindsight, I would have never created a 2nd apple ID for my wife.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I share the home folder with different accounts on the same mac?

    Hi, here's a question:
How can I share the home folder with different accounts on the same mac?
The whole point being not to have to install all my apps, and move all my files each time between users.
The second thing would be to be able to modify one document on one account, and have it changed on the other account without having to copy it.
I would like to have a pro and a private account on my mac.
    Thanks for you answers,
    Doug

Your apps should not be installed in your home folder--they should be in /Applications where every user can access them.
If you want to share things between users on the same Mac, use the /Users/Shared folder. Keep your home folder private. Trying to defeat the protections on the home folder subfolders just gets messy. I've never bothered to figure out all of the problems associated with it so I can't explain how to do it.
Even with using Shared, you would need to alter the ACLs on the shared folder in order to allow both users to modify the documents.
You must create a Group in Users & Groups and put each user in that group. Then create a folder inside /Users/Shared where you want to share the various files.
Then, add an ACL to the shared folder that gives the group special permissions. on that folder.
    sudo chmod -R +a "<sharinggroup> allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,add_subdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Users/Shared/<sharing folder>
Replace <sharinggroup> and <sharingfolder> with the name of your group and your folder. Then, run the command in the Terminal.
With that ACL, each user in <sharinggroup> will be able to alter the files created by any user in the group in that <sharingfolder>.
Essentially, the client OS is not designed for true file sharing among the individual users. It is designed to isolate each user account from the others.

  • How do I share photos and music between different user accounts on the same macbook

How do I share photos and music between different user accounts on the same Macbook? i.e. I want all to be able to access family photos when logged into their respective accounts. Same goes for the iTunes library. Hope this is possible...
    Thanks!

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
To give others selective access to your iPhoto library, you have the option of using iCloud Photo Sharing, if the privacy implications don't bother you. The images will be stored temporarily on Apple servers.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support articles linked below.
iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users
There is a way to share the library without moving it to a secondary volume. If you really need to do that, ask for instructions.

i recently bought a macbook pro and i made a new apple id. my last macbook had a different id as well and i was wondering if there's a way of transferring all my music from the other laptop to the new one without having to use my old apple id? if it makes any type of difference i have an iphone 5 so i tried transfering the music but it only transfered certain things and not my entire album.

Making a new Apple ID was the worst thing you could of done. This is very bad to do. Not sure why people do that. Your Apple ID is Your Apple ID. You only need one and it is best to only have one Apple ID for all apple devices.
Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you.
