Trying to find File Format spec (.apxl)

HI, I want to write a conversion utility that will take a Mind Node Pro mindmap file (including images and possible movie clips) and then translate that into a Keynote file.
I got the idea when I noted that Omni Outliner will export to Keynote and I thought that was really useful but it doesn't actually pass on attachments to the Keynote file it generates just the outline text and I think it might include a text representation of the image and/or video as well.  Can't quite remember.
Anyway, I got to thinking that it would be great to go from a Mind Map file (I chose Mind Node Pro since I like using it and it allows attachment of images and so I can sort of "see" how my presentation is going to pan out) to a Keynote file.  I would use this more for informal communications as I could throw together a MindMap with supporting docs like pictures and audio or such - then press a button as it were and a simple Keynote file is generated but also containing the images/audio, etc., in a somewhat sensible manner on the slides.  I could then run through the presentation and do a voice over and - bingo - in a very short while I have an informal audio/visual communication which includes tone of voice and is a lot less taxing to write than a letter and easier to digest at the other end as well.
My problem is that I can't find the Keynote file format on line even though it seems like there was a Technical Note about it for Keynote 1.0.  I think it has been taken off line with nothing replacing it, but am not certain.
If anyone can help out in this regard I'd be grateful - but in the meantime I am just going to look at the output of OmniOutliner export -> Keynote and see what I can glean from that.  If you can help fast track me to the official spec it would make a huge difference to me and the robustness of what I'm trying to write.
Many thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Rama Lakshmanan

Actually you have given me a new project - which is cool - I will not be able to work on it right away as I am focussing on a bit of graph-rep code which I've used to build various other bits of software in my research in the past and so have various versions and so am trying now to put together one that has the best features and structure of the ones I've developed ad hoc over the years.  This would then be used as part of the conversion utility from MindMap to Presentation - I need that for a separate practical need, and could have just hacked a solution, but I'm trying to do it "properly" this time and so am holding myself back from rushing into it although I did take some initial stabs at it and learnt a bit about the file format on my own.
I have been skimming bits of the document you put me on to and it is really GREAT (in that it also puts in Pages stuff and that could be really useful too in the future).  It also points out which parts of a Keynote .apxl can be left empty which is nice because I don't want to generate any fluff - so all I need to do is get a simple bare bones theme in there and the slides.  So it has been a great help, thanks.
With regard to Omni, I have primarily been referring to OmniOutliner which is an outliner that does allow you to put in images and A/V files but which doesn't export these to Keynote.  Possibly when you attach a file like that the behaviour or placement in a presentation might not be clearly defined apriori for all cases and so they have played safe and only put in the text outline in bullet form into the Keynote they export.
However, OmniGraffle of course do deal with vectors (to overstate the obvious) and it would be interesting to look at their file format - my understanding was that they used Graphviz as an engine but not sure whether this is just for layout since that is something Graphviz excels at or whether they have taken more from it.  I shall have to check in due course but for me it would be more of a project for the future - but of interest to me since at the moment my graph code has a very simple interface for displaying itself - it spits out a "dot" file which is the format that Graphviz uses to draw from - but at the moment I only have a very primitive interface and so your thought might be useful in the future for that aspect of my code.
Thanks again - your input has been very helpful indeed.

  • FCP3 file format spec

I'm trying to finish my last project on this G4 with FCP3. The external hard drives with the media crashed when I installed LaCie software for a DVD writer.
I haven't opened FCP since the crash.
Will it destroy my sequences if I open FCP when the media files are gone?
Can I extract info from the project files to create a batch capture list file?
Anyone know where to get the file format information for FCP3? (pre-XML type)

If the media is gone and you open your project in FCP, all you will get is a 'media offline' message.
Still to be safe, I would copy the project in the finder first and open the copy.
If the drive is toast, still images, and other non-tape based files would be lost. However, material that is tape based is recapturable. Didn't FCP3 allow batch capture from the information in Browser?
How does a hard drive with only media on it crash when you install software? Have you run the Disk Utilities on it? How about DiskWarrior?
    Good luck.

  • Trouble finding file format plugin template or example

Using XP, Photoshop CS2, CS2 SDK, and VS .NET 2005.
I can find offered file format plugins, but they're compiled already. Can anyone point me toward a tutorial, sample or template for format plugins? Also, that chapter seems to be missing from the API guide (Photoshop API Guide.pdf that came with the SDK). It should be chapter 9, but it and chapter 6 are missing. Any idea why or where I can find the missing chapter?

Adobe likes distributing a cut-down SDK. You need to apply for the "Advanced" SDK.Searching for "Photoshop File Format Plugin" with or without "sample", "example", or "template" returns a lot of results. They're about the JPEG2000 plugin or the format of a plugin, etc.But still you can go through google for more help.

  • Where can I find the Brushes (abr) file format?

I've found the Photoshop File Format Specs at: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-apps/photoshop/fileformatashtml
But unfortunately they don't include the Brushes (abr) file format.
Also, the SDK FAQ references a form you are supposed to fill to ask for this, but there's no such a form anymore.
Where can I find information about this?
    Thanks in advance

Where can I find the a downloaded file by Software update?
    In ~/Downloads
For example is there any way to find a package which is downloaded but is not installed(because the installation failed) (in this case 10.5.5)
Failed installs usually remove the package, just as a proper install removes the package
All that remains for a proper installation is a Receipt in on of the following directories:
    ~/Library/Receipts (for user-specific installs)
    Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts
for system-wide installations, including OS-X updates.
and I don't want to download it once again neither manually nor with software update.
If it did not install, there is no Receipt and the downloaded file is not on your system
If you don't want to see it again in automatic updates, put it on ignore.

  • Freehand File Format Specifications

    Hi,
Trying to locate file format specifications for Freehand 9,
10 and MX files. From what I've seen on the 'net, they weren't made
availabe to the public by Macromedia.
With Freehand considered "dead" by Adobe, why couldn't Adobe
release the format specs? Surely this can't be a big deal to the
    Macromedia people at Adobe anymore.
    Thanks, wbjethro2

WOW! I'm an old school Freehand user ( since V2.0) and just
discovered this Forum and that FH is now in the clutches of Adobe.
So they are gonna kill it this time huh? As some of you may know,
this is an old saga for sure. Yes. Adobe has been trying to kill FH
for years and now they get to do it. I just hope Illfrustrator has
evolved in the past few years. Anyway, I concur with the theory of
paranoia at Adobe. They don't want to face a Ghost of Freehand past
that they will have to buy out again. I just can't believe thier
Illustrator developers couldn't just improve Freehand, rather than
improving Illustrator with Freehand code ;) Hey has Photoshop
evolved into something better since 6 or is it BloatWear by now?

  • Unable to convert PDF files to any other file format using Acrobat XI Pro

    Acrobat XI Pro ver11.0.2
    Office 2013 Pro Plus
    Windows 8 Pro
When I open a PDF file and try to export file to: Word, RTF, Excel, XML or PowerPoint, I woud receive the error below.
Save As failed to process this document. No file was created.
I recall in the past that I was able to export PDF to Excel & Word.  I simply tried the other file formats to see what happens.
Unfortunately for me, this is happening to both of my machines.  Same version software except the other machine is Windows 7 Pro. I have admin level rights to both PCs.
Not sure what to do at this point.
As another test, I did the following.
Created a document in Word, then saved as a PDF file.  Opened that PDF file to save as a Word doc and I received the error listed above.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thank you

    Thank you for the suggestions
"Created a document in Word, then saved as a PDF file.  Opened that PDF file to save as a Word doc and I received the error listed above".
I used another machine.  Created a Virtual Machine with Office 2013 and Acobat XI and I do not have issues with converting PDF to any of the available formats.  Its not the file I'm using, its the software itself that is the issue.
Unfortunately, I did uninstall Office 2013 & Acrobat XI then reinstalled but I still have the problem so I can only guess once its broken in the registry, I will continue to have an issue.
For now, I'm going to move Acrobat XI on the VM since I dont have time to reinstall Windows 8.

  • How to create a program to find files then display results to be clickable?

    Hello,
I am trying to find files based on extension name. It searches through all child folders from the parent folder to find files.
This program example, Dupe File Finder shows "Name, Path, and Size" as results. This looks like a JTable without gridlines?
    http://www.softpicks.net/screenshots/Dupe-File-Finder.gif
Files from the results will be opened differently when double clicked based on their extensions (.java, .jar. .bat. .vow). EX, .java extension opens in Firefox that displays clear text.
    Jtable Component:
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/components/table.html
All I can find is JTable class. I do not think JTable has the best tools to do this. What's your advice related to this program?
Once I finish this program, I intend to make it find duplicate contents in excel files through the parent folder. Then it displays the list of duplicate files. Importing excel files in the mysql database might get the job done, but I still need to create a graphical user interface.
    Any help would be appreciated.

This looks like a JTable without gridlines?right.
All I can find is JTable class. I do not think JTable has the best tools to do this. What's your advice related to this program?JTable has all the facilities which you can think of e.g. the first column in the shown table has a checkbox, this is also possible using JTable, you can set different CellRenderers and CellEditors to customize the table (carry on reading the tutorial, you will find it all there). I would suggest go ahead with JTable.
    Thanks!

  • DVD format specs in iDVD 9

I need to make a DVD master to send to a duplication company. They require UDF, UDF Bridge, or ISO 9660 format. Images must be written in DDP2.0, DDP2.1 or CMF format with DDP prefered. I can supply them either a DVD-R either single layer DVD5 or double layer DVD9 disk.
I can't find the format specs for DVD disks produced in iDVD 9.
Can I burn a master DVD-R that would suit the requirements of this firm listed above from iDVD 9? If so, where would I find any control of this in settings in iDVD 9? Also, can I burn a double layer DVD9 disk in iDVD 9?
    AF

    CMF = Cutting Master Format
    DDP = Disc Description Protocol
As far as I know, iDVD doesn't support either format. DVD Studio Pro supports DDP

I'm trying to find out how to export my apple contacts to the Salesforce software and they need to be in a csv format and I don't know if this is possible and how to do it if it is?

I think there are third-party programs which will do that, but you can also do it with Automator:
See the links in my post, here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/22390873#22390873
The file or clipboard contents will be in Tab Separated vars, so you'll have to open with a spreadsheet program and save as Comma Separated Vars format.

  • Format over catalog file, tried to recover file but now corrupt?!

I recently performed a format of my hard drive.  When doing this, I did not back up my catalog file from photoshop elements(I have pse 8.0).  I backed up everything else, and I do have all of the original full size photo files from my hard drive, ~11,000 image files which are now all put back to their exact same location on the hard drive as before the format. Horrible mistake on my part not to back this up, but I thought this info was stored in the individual photo files itself, but I know now that this info was in the catalog file that I more than likely have lost.
First off, following the format elements 8.0 was installed and all of my photos were migrated into elements(all thumbnails visible in organizer with no problems).  Elements and the organizer worked perfectly fine, besides the fact that I had lost all of my tag and album info that was stored in the catalog file.
My husband purchased some file recovery software following the format of the hard drive to try and recover the catalog database file from the hard drive.  The recovery software did find the file and was able to recover it from the partition of the hard drive that had been formatted over.  Following the recovery of the file, he tried to move the file manually into the folder C:\program data\adobe\elements organizer\catalogs\my catalogs\.  Doing this replaced the new catalog file that had been recently created by photoshops elements following the reformat with the one that was recovered by the recovery software.  Next, he opened up Photoshop elements and tried to launch the organizer.  Following this, we received the following message from organizer: “the catalog could not be opened, it is either corrupt, or the version is out of date and cannot be updated”. We then clicked on ok and then tried to hit the repair button, which it then told me that the catalog file could not be repaired.  We also tried the File>Catalog> Open command in elements organizer to open the new catalog file and this gave me the same exact error message and same results.
We have also tried to run the psedbtool found on the web on the catalog file that was recovered by the recovery software.  Unfortunately, the file is unreadable by the tool and the tool gives me the following message when trying to use the tool on the recovered catalog file: "can't open catalog database: file is encrypted or is not a database". I also tried the -csv file and -printVolumeTable options of the tool and it gives me the same message.  Because I am getting this error message, it does not seem as if this tool will be able to help me with the recovered catalog database file.
Is my catalog file that I have recovered corrupt and unusable, or is there some way to get this file to work?
The recovery software I used if from Pareto Logic named "Data Recovery Pro".  Could the problem be with the recovery software and maybe a different recovery software may do a better job of recovering the file?
    Thnks for any help!

To make the story short, have you backed up your photos?  If the answer is yes then why can't you create a new catalog and import the photos to this new catalog?
To create a new catalog, the basic process is:
    1) Open the Organizer and click on File
    2) Click Catalog
    3) click New
    4) Type a name for the new catalog
    5) Click OK
Now it is a question of importing the photos to this new catalog.  the basic process is as follows:
    1) Open the Organizer and Click File
    2) Click Get Photos & Videos
    3) Click From Files and Folders
    4) click "down-arrow" icon to choose the folder
    5) CTRL+ Click on your photos to import (or CTRL + A to select all photos)
    6) click Get Media
    7) Click Show All to view your photos
Hope this gets you started.  Your formatted hard drive will not let you get your old files so you are stuck.  You should always make a habit to back-up your data on a flash drive because they are very robust and can be stored safely  away from the computer you are working on.  Your your machines own Hard Disk as a back-up store is definitively not a good strategy.

How to fix file when it says, "Cannot open file " ". Adobe Indesign does not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or file may be open in another application." It worked one second, I saved and closed the file, then tried to reopen and now it won't work. I am using Adobe InDesign CS5. It is the only version on my comp. I have tried opening on another comp & copying the file – same error comes up. PLEASE HELP

First check the version of the document with Jongware's script "Identify.jsx" (ExtendScript/JavaScript).
    You can find it here:
    [Ann] Identify Your InDesign File
If it is CS 5.5 or above, you need someone to open it in the version the script says and export an IDML representation from that. Another way would be to install a 30days version of CS6 or above (CC) and do it yourself.
In regards of the script showing a result for InDesign files higher than CS6:
    CS7 = CC v9
    CS8 = CC v10 = CC-2014 or CC2014.1

  • Trying to find .m3u files - No Joy

I can see the files if I browse the Music For Car folder.
Don't want 'em, the car don't know what to do with them and then it is another file you have to skip over to play music.
If I put .3mu in the search criteria, and Music For Cars folder is selected and Filenames is selected no files are shown in the list!!!!!
If I remove the search criteria I can manually identify 90 + .m3u files. Surely I do not have to find each one by eyeballing each folder or is this something I have to do in unix to find files, I was hoping OS X might have a GUI way of doing it.
Oh I also searched for 'Stream URL Files' in the Kind selection but it can't find that kind either.
How come I can see these files but I cannot search for them????
Hey also why when I burn a DVD of this music is it full of the same files but with a . in front of each one, this is REALLY bad when navigating the MP3s on the car system as you have wade through hundreds of mp3 files that won't play.
I have search and searched to find out how to stop it from doing this but cannot find out how.
This is far from the intuitive Mac interface I had grown to love, this just seems flakey.
Anyone any ideas? I am frustrated as **** working on this for several hours trying to workaround a weird OS X bug.

If the volume has not been indexed by spotlight, then you won't be able to find anything. There are other utilities out there that will just do a flat file search for file names. You can also index the volume by opening the Terminal and typing: mdimport Don't hit return, yet, and leave a space after the command and drag your volume to the terminal window. Then, hit return. It will take maybe a minute to index the volume, at which point you will be able to search for those files.
The m3u files are apparently some sort of playlist format created by winamp or some other music player/organization software.
The ._ files are the metadata associated with the file, like Artist, Album, etc. Since the DVD file format is unable to store the metadata with the music file itself, the metadata is split off.
You can use a program like [BlueHarvest|http://zeroonetwenty.com/blueharvest> or the dot_clean utility in the Terminal to strip out the metadata files. I haven't used either on a CD or DVD, but I imagine after moving the files to the burn folder or disk, you would then run either on that volume before you burn. I have to do the same on a USB memory stick that I use in my car.
For dot_clean, open Terminal and type:dot_clean -m Make sure you leave a space after the m and don't hit return. Now, drag your disk to the terminal window and the path to the volume will be placed after the command. Hit return and it will clean up your disk.

  • I have iphoto 6 and my pictures are no longer showing.  I have tried importing them but it just give me an error msg. (file format not recognized) I have tried rebuilding the iphoto library but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

I have iphoto 6 and my pictures are no longer showing.  I have tried importing them but it just give me an error msg. (file format not recognized) I have tried rebuilding the iphoto library but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?

    How did you rebuild?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
