Trying to finish project on Premiere Pro and having issues...

Hi everyone,
I'm having multiple issues on Premiere Pro and have gone through all the troubleshoots, and obvious Adobe is closed on the weekend, so was wondering if there was someone out there who was well-versed in this program to guide me through it. I know it just from editing on it, but am by no means an expert working with it. Thanks in advance...

Some of this has been addressed in other responses, but I thought I’d take a stab what what’s going on item by item.
***Fonts
Chalkduster is a Mac TrueType font that’s included with Mac OS X 1.6 or newer.  Being that Fonts are platform specific, I can think of the following two options:
1. Find someone running Mac OS X 10.6 or newer with a utility that can convert Mac TrueType to Windows TrueType and then install the converted font on your Windows system. The Titles should look very close to what you expect them to look like and you can still make edits to them.  Or,
2. Find someone with the same version of Premiere Pro that the original project file was saved in (or a newer version) running Mac OS X 10.6 (or newer) who can open the project file and save each Premiere Pro Title as PNG file.  Then, replace each Premiere Pro Title with the corresponding PNG file in your current Sequence.  You don’t need to send the person all of your media as the Premiere Pro Titles are part of the project file itself.  Of course, you won’t have editable text with option 2, but the titles should appear as expected.
***Color is screwed up
If this is a 3rd party effect that’s not installed on your system, it may be a simple matter of installing that plug-in to restore the color such that it appears as expected.
Select one of the clips that has unexpected color and click on the Effect Controls tab.
Under “Video Effects”, you’ll see Motion, Opacity and Time Remapping.  Anything listed after that is an Effect that has been applied to the clip.
Does it show that anything is missing?  (If I remember correctly, the effect name will appear in italics with the word “missing”.)
If something is listed and there’s a Windows version of that plug-in, you’re probably in good shape for restoring the color.
Of course, there's always the possibility that you may need to restore the color to appear as expected from scratch.
***Opened Sequences vs. Imported Sequences
It sounds like you’re opening a Sequence from within the Project rather than importing one.  You are probably also opening a rendered cut that was exported as a movie and then imported back into the project.
You’ll want to find the Sequence that is your most recent cut and make a duplicate of it (assuming that there is a Sequence with your entire assembly from first frame to last frame).
To make a duplicate, select the Sequence in the Project panel and then choose Edit > Duplicate.
For Sequence names, I highly recommend the following naming convention:
   Project_YYYY-MM-DD_000_XX
For example, the fourth version of a cut edited today by me on a project named Cross Platform Nightmares” would be named “Cross_2014-10-04_004_WH”.
***Various Versions of Premiere Pro
Opening an older version of Premiere Pro in a newer version _usually_ goes smoothly.  Your problems are a mixed back of cross platform issues, media 3rd party plug-in issues, and file organization issues.
***Linked Media
It’s unfortunate that you had to relink your media.  That’s a time consuming process.
From what you’ve described, the links most likely broke because the project file was moved from where it was originally at the Finder level rather than via File > Save As…” from within Premiere Pro.
Latham, do you happen to have a budget to hire an experienced, cross-platform editor?  Based on where you’re at, it sounds like you need someone with a good deal of experience cutting in Premiere Pro on both Mac and Windows.

after effects opens up ,  i do all my effects and when i view it in premiere, it all works fine.
i get half way through my effects and i need to leave it and save, to work on at a later date.
if i save inside premiere then reopen , the footage doesn't reopen as a linked comp??? the sections that where linked with after effects reopen as missing footage
is there a procedure to saving as a linked comp?
does anyone have a link to a tutorial or a video that shows how to do this??im desperate for an answer . can some one please help??

  • I'm trying to import a sequence into premiere pro and suddenly a few sections are 'media offline'

I'm trying to import a previous premiere pro sequence into premiere pro and suddenly a few sections are 'media offline' (it has always worked up until now).  I would be able to relink the clips but the offending ones aren't showing up in the project's clip bin. To make things worse I can't drag and drop the corresponding clips from my finder into the clips bin and then 'replace clip with' in the timeline, as the clips in the project have been renamed, and are synced up to audio (this is a 90 minute feature film).
    Can anyone help??!!

Right click on the offline clips and select Reveal in Project.  This will call up the bin they're in, where you'll be able to relink.

  • The project was saved in a newer version of Premiere Pro and cannot be opened in this version

I edited a project on CC on one computer and saved it on my external. My friend took the same project to edit it on her computer under her own name and licence. Both of us recently upgraded to CC. But the same project that worked a few hours back on Premiere Pro CC, does not work now also on Premiere Pro CC and I received a message saying: The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." Can you please help us.?

Reason: Your title was too long.

    Hi alexxxkid,
You should be able to import the xml into an earlier version.
Backward compatibility has never been there with Premiere and it is always recommended not to update in the middle of a project.
As far as the crash is concerned, please tell me more about it so that i can help you to the best of my knowledge.
    Thanks,

  • "The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version." - Except it wasn't!

Last night I saved a project I've been working on for a couple of days. It's been fine all along. Today, when I went to open it, it's no longer listed in the recently opened files on startup and i get this message:
"The project was saved in a newer version of premiere pro and cannot be opened in this version."
Except it wasn't! I use Premiere CC and it's been fine all along. I can no longer open it at all...
    Any thoughts? Very frustrating!

One more item.   In using PP CC2014 for the first time with this project, I have run into multiple issues making this project very frustrating.  When adding a sequence to the master sequence, I have to render the audio each time in order to see all of the audio waves. You have to keep doing this over and over, even though you've already rendered a sequence already.
I am getting error messages when rendering the project saying there are issues compiling the movie.  Getting same type error message if I try to export.  I narrowed it down to two sequences keeping the program from rendering without the error messages.  They each had a tiff file.  I deleted them and they rendered.  Not sure what this issue was with these particular files since I have other tiff files in the project.  Once the rendering of all sequences was done, all the individual sequences were closed and the master was the only one open.  I didn't close them.  So now to edit any of the sequences I have to go back and open them.
The only thing this project has in it are titles created in PP, a few graphics, mostly tiff tiles and some jpeg and the dissolve effect.  That's it.  Seems like they should have done more with this version before putting it out there.  Maybe that's why there are two separate applications for PP?  Who knows.  I will be uninstalling PP CC2014 when this project is complete.

  • I have finished my project on Premiere Pro, but when i try to export with Quicktime it fails (sheep sound)

Hi i am in a bit of a sticky situation. I have finished a project in premeire pro and i wnat to export it with quicktime.
I have previously exported, when i used both after effets and premire pro together to make a video, exported it with quicktime and none(compressed) and it worked perfectly.
There were some minor changes and edits i needed to make, but when i was making these changes my 30 day trail had run out , so i used my brothers account who was also on a trial they was still valid.
After finalisng my work i attempted to export, again with the same settings: Quicktime, Uncompressed. but it has been failing on media encoder

    RDA972, thanks for the reply.
Yes i am using a PC, i just wanted to ask before rebooting the laptop and disabling the Hyper threading,Is it possible to have a unfinalized Premier Pro project saved as a Adobe premier file on to my USB, then that saved file on the USB stick, inserted into a different Laptop that wasn't originally used to make the Premier Pro project, but has Adobe Media encoder and adobe creative cloud in the same version.
the reason i asked this is because this is my situation and i was wondering if the different Pc had anything to do with the exporting

  • Is there a path for projects between Premiere Elements and Premiere Pro?

As an educator who has been teaching FCP7 for several years, we are preparing to purchase new equipment and most likely go to the Adobe Suite.  However, I want to know if Premiere Elements is functionally similar to Premiere Pro, and if it would be a good option for beginning students prior to moving to Premiere Pro.

    rich experience
Premiere Elements is an excellent program and is in many respects not a second citizen to Premiere Pro.
The principles of the programs are the same. And, although some Premiere Elements features might not be as full as Premiere Pro, they
can get most of the tasks done.
Is this your first experience with an Adobe product in your teaching facilities?
If you have not, please work through or have your IT people work through the program permissions angle on this matter.
Premiere Elements works from a User Account with Administrative Privileges. With volume licensing in a school or company
    environment, this can create problems.
Another consideration is the level of support help to expect from Adobe once you have purchased the product.
At the Premiere Elements level, often you are directed by Adobe to Ask the Community (us, user to user) and in some limited ways Adobe Chat.
I have noted that Premiere Pro support channels are far more "enhanced".
Will someone be looking at the tryout before purchase to assure the compatibility of the product with the computer environment and project goals?

  • Premiere Pro and Media Encoder crash while rendering H.264

Very recently, a problem's popped up where Premiere Pro and Media Encoder (CC) will crash while rendering H.264.
It's only while rendering H.264 - other formats seem to work fine.
And I don't mean that it returns an error, I mean it hard crashes with a Windows "Adobe Premiere Pro CC has stopped working" popup.
It doesn't crash at a consistent time during the render, even on the same project. Occasionally, it won't crash at all, but this is usually not the case.
I've tried disabling CUDA and my overclock to no avail. Please help!

On the topic of opening a project on the exact same version of Premiere Pro CC 2014 (yes it is definitely up to date, and the 2014 version), to overcome this export crash problem that ZachHinchy has brought up - you can't. Technically speaking, one should easily be able to open a Premiere Pro CC 2014 project from one system on another system running the exact same up to date, legitimate version of Premiere Pro CC 2014 without any kind of error. But for some reason, this has been disallowed(?) by Adobe. It has facepalm written all over it. Does anyone agree that this is at least a little bit silly?
I have tried exporting a Final Cut Pro XML from my project to try and open the sequence at uni on a Mac, so I can render my project when I finish my edit. It half works - the clips are there, but the sequence is gone - i.e. 12 hours of painstaking sequencing and micro-edits that had me at several points in time wanting to insert my hand through my monitor with enough force to make a large hole. I really cannot afford redo this sequence, as my assignment is due tomorrow, and I have to work at 6 oclock in the morning, so I also cannot afford to stay up till the early hours of tomorrow morning. Wish me luck that some miraculous event has taken place overnight that will somehow allow me to just open my project, on the same version of Premiere, on a Mac, without hassle. (Apple OS is not friendly to anything but its own selfish nature, so I am having doubts).
Adobe please, if you can do anything at all to help, you will save my assignment, and my faith will be restored. Otherwise, I'll just get my money back and buy Final Cut instead.
    I cant even
If I find a way to fix either of these problems, I will post straight away.

  • Error Importing Premiere Elements project into Premiere Pro CS5

    Hi,
I am working on a multi-part video project that I started in Premiere Elements 8.  I put in hours upon hours of editing on the first part and I found that the more I edited, the more often the program would crash (infuriating!).  So I started using Premiere Pro CS5 to produce the second part, resolving to come back to the first part later.  Well, I've come back around to needing this first part done, and it is just undoable in Elements (crashes every 20 seconds!).  I'd like to import that project into CS5 if possible.  The help documentation says this should be perfectly possible... but I'm having no luck.
When I attempt to open my Premiere Elements project in Premiere Pro, it tells me the project must be converted from Elements .prel to Pro .prproj, and I click through the prompts as normal.  But then as soon as it starts trying to open the project, I get this:
"The Project could not be loaded. It may be damaged or contain outdated elements."
I downloaded the Premiere Elements 9 trial to see if it would be less crashy (and it is), but I'd really prefer to have all my video in one program, and CS5 does the best job (and has most of my hours invested).  Elements 9 opens the "damaged" project just fine and I can edit and export normally, so why can't CS5?
Am I stuck recreating the project from the ground up in CS5?

In very general terms, a contemporary PrE Project (PREL), will Open in PrPro, with the steps that you outlined.
Now, there are all sorts of considerations, for aspects that will not likely work:
Instant Movie/Themes, as PrPro cannot read those
Some Effects that PrPro does not have, like the NewBlue FX
Some Transitions that PrPro does not have
Some Title animation Presets, that PrPro does not have
Do you have any of the above in your PrE Project? There are probably other circumstances, but those are all that come immediately to my mind.
The simpler the PrE Project, the greater the likelyhood that it will Convert to a PrPro PRPROJ file.
PrE 8 and PrPro CS5 should be close enough to work, again in those general terms. I can Open simple PrE 4.0 Projects in PrPro 2.0, but cannot Open PrE 7, 8 or 9 Projects in PrPro 2.0.
    Good luck,

  • Nikon D7000 .MOV files in Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5.5

I recently upgraded from Production Premium CS5 to CS5.5. Initially Nikon D7000 .MOV files used in previous CS5 Premiere Pro project would not play well in CS5.5. Now .MOV files do work in both PP and AE CS5.5. Here are the steps I followed. Not recommending you follow my steps exactly, just providing info for those that are interested.
    1.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5 and open previous PP CS5 project, convert project to CS5.5 and rename project file as not to replace previous CS5 project file.
    a.       At this point .MOV files do not play in new project or in AE CS5.5
    b.      Close Premiere Pro and After Effect if still running.
    2.       Using Adobe Bridge CS5.5, batch rename;
    a.       Make copies of original files to new folder location while renaming file extension from .MOV to .mpg
    b.      Let Adobe Bridge finish creating all new thumbnail previews.
    c.       Leave Bridge running in background.
    3.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5, let Premiere finish recreating thumbnail previews if needed.
    a.       Attempt to preview existing .MOV file in project. It worked for me.
    b.      Attempt to play sequence containing .MOV files. It worked for me.
    c.       Attempt to play or modify sequence .MOV files in AE CS5.5 via Dynamic Link within Premiere. It worked for me.
    d.      Close Premiere Pro project and AE projects if open.
    4.       Create new Premiere Pro project and sequence
    a.       Import a different Nikon D7000 .MOV file not previously used or renamed.
    b.      Attempt to play this newly imported .MOV file. This worked for me as well.
    c.       The new, previously un-renamed .MOV file also worked in AE CS5.5 for me.
I will perform additional tests but at the moment Nikon D7000 .MOV files are working for me in CS5.5 after initially performing a batch rename in Bridge CS5.5 from .MOV to .mpg and letting Bridge create preview files. Even .MOV files not renamed now work.
An example of Nikon D7000 footage edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, After Effects CS5.5, and Sound Booth CS5 can be seen on my blog, http://stevelandonsmyth.typepad.com/steve-landon-smyths-blog/2011/07/my-first-hd -video-shoot-with-nikon-d7000.html

    Hello,
I see 2 post in this thread from Todd that say they are working on a fix and it should be out soon.  One is from July, the other from August.  It is now Sept 7th and I still see no patches or fixes for any bugs.  I spent 400 dollars on an upgrade, but is this upgrade going to be supported?
This is making me rethink upgrading to the .5's in the future.
It is a minor bug to most, but in that sense it should be an easy quick fix. Am I wrong? Is this really a complicated issue?
I apologize if this comes off like a rant, but thats kinda what it is.  It is not hard to batch rename files, but its a pain to have to relink all those files in PP.

  • Premiere Pro and Adobe Media Encoder running slow

    Hello everyone,
I'm having trouble with CS4, which is running significantly slower than CS3 did on a older machine. The CS4 suite is installed on a Dell Precision M6400:
    Windows Vista 64-Bit
    Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9400 @ 2.53 GHz
    8 GB RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 2700M Graphics with 512MB dedicated memory
The OS is running on a 57.5 GB HD (C:) and the Adobe suite is installed on a 298 GB Solid State HD (D:), except for Adobe Media Encoder, which is installed on the C: drive.
My project has 4 15-16 minute sequences. The sequences are in DV NTSC, 29.97 fps,  My scratch disks are set to a folder on the C: drive. Media Cache Files and the Media Cache Database points to a folder on the D: drive.
These are some of the problems I'm having:
    - Premiere Pro CS4 generates peak files every time I open a project
    - It then takes 3-5 minutes to render before I can preview a 16-minute sequence
    - Adobe Media Encoder takes 5 hours to render a 16-minute sequence (as flv) that has been previously rendered
    - AME takes 1 hour to render every 15 minute sequence that has never been rendered before
Are my settings affecting their performance? Is there any way to improve it? Thanks.
(Premiere Pro is the only app that is slow)

The data rate for replay is one thing, the data rate from disk to memory then from memory to CPU and back the other way are different matters and ought not to be confused. It is well-established that for a computer to edit AVCHD you need top end components, and note that I said there were three tasks to distinquish with increasing hardware requirements, namely merely replaying the video, specifying edits in the editor and then the rendering. It is commonly accepted by all the industry vendors that to do remotely commercial AVCHD rendering you need a minimum Quadcore CPU then that eats data fast, in order to not let it go to waste you need a fast motherboard bus fast memory and in order for none of those to go to waste you need the fastest disk set-up you can manage. I in fact have a 4-disk RAID0 volume using SATA (I think the disk model is SATAII but I have to await return from the repair center before I can confirm). For this RAID0 volume I have run speed test software from BlackMagic because I have one of their HDTV capture cards. It recorded that this volume which remember is doing parallelised IO is just fast enough to receive a encoded HDTV stream from the BlackMagic card but too slow to receive an uncompressed HDTV stream, indeed when I tried both I found the volume did keep up with compressed but fell behind with uncompressed. Remember that with a RAID0 volume of 4 SATAII disks a given file gets spread over the four disks and hence IO is spread over those 4 3G/s data lanes. Also remember with these disks 3G/s is just a burst speed, for AVCHD we are interested in sustained serial IO which is much less.
Before my machine broke down, I found that it took 5 hours to render 33 minutes of HDTV albeit as it went along it transcoded from AVCHD to a Microsoft HD format for Vista-only. Another interesting thing is that I found that the longer this render ran the slower it became, the estimated time started at 3 hours but the actual was five and the last one third took maybe 3 hours. Because the machine broke after that run I couldn't figure the bottleneck. For my machine bear in mind that at the repair shop we found that the Quadcore had only half the necessary electrical power plugged in, the monitor software showed however that it constantly ran around 90% of whatever capacity that reduced power supply permitted. Now then we can puzzle over why it got slower and slower and yet CPU consumption remained consistent and near to full capacity, memory was not the bottleneck because that was constant at 6.4G. But you can say that this was maybe performing like a Dualcore and was hitting some sort of wall, if you had a 1 hour render with that rate of degeneration of performance factored in what would happen to the render time, and for 3 hours you could be running indefinitely. I hope when the machine comes back the correct power supply will make it behave like a Quadcore should for this type of application. Anyway I have two theories for the degradation. First is just that PrProCS4 was getting its knickers in a twist and thereby just doing more computation per minute of video to be rendered as time went by, maybe internal resource management related to OO-type programming maybe, or related to disk IO falling behind, both these theories have problems, for the latter the CPU usage should then have dropped also.
Anyways, you need really a Quadcore system and blazing fast disk to work fully with AVCHD commercially, we found an external SATAII disk so if I were you I would just go get one and move on with your life.

For AVCHD you MUST have FAST disks.
AVCHD actually has a lower data date than DV. You need lots of CPU muscle, but disk speed is really not a factor specific to AVCHD. Anything that works for DV will work just as well for AVCHD (and HDV as well).

  • How to send a project from Premiere Pro to be opened on another computer in FCP7?

The crux is I have this project in Premiere Pro CS5.5 which contains the original MOVs and time adjusted movs that I nested and turned into F4Vs, so it contains movs and f4vs with 1 aiff file and I need to send the work to the director(who has FCP7 and works on a Apple computer) so they can key out the green screen and grade it in FCP7. I prefer no to send 1 big file because there are lots of fast flickering cuts so would take alot of time to go through it pretty much frame for frame. So it would be eaier if they could view it as a project file in FCP7 like I can see it in Adobe Premiere Pro. I haven't done this before as you can tell but someone must of tried doing this before so how is it done?
My project settings in Pro are
    Editing mode: DSLR
    Timebase 25.00 frames/second
    FRame size 1920 x 1080 vertical 16:9
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
    Display Format: 25fps Timecode
    Sample Rate:48000HZ
    Dispaly Format:Audio Samples
    Video Previews
Preview File Format I-Frmae Only Mpeg
    Codec: Mpeg I-Frame
    Width 1920
    Height 1080
Please help I really appreciate any advice, I've tried converting the f4vs into apple pro res but no video converter or media encoder will let me even if i imort the pro res preset.

Duplicate the project with referenced events onto the external hard drive.

  • Opening old Premiere Projects in Premiere Pro CS5

I have some old video projects which I've saved to disk with the idea that I could go back and edit them later.  I just tried to open one of these old projects in Premiere Pro CS5 and it doesn't recognize the old Premiere Pro project.  PP CS5 projects now end with *.prel or *.prproj.  My old projects (some done in Premiere 6, some in PP CS) ended with *.ppj.  I opened the *.ppj file properties and tried changing them from "Opens with Adobe Premiere Pro CS" to "Opens with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5", but it looks like the file suffix remains *.ppj and PP CS5 still doesn't recognize it.
Is there a way I can convert my old PP projects to PP CS5 so they can be opened/edited in my current software?
    Thanks.
    --Dave

    David,
Per my earlier post, if you change that from All Supported Media to All Files, can you Import?
[Edit] I see that All Files did work, and that you are up and editing! That is great news.
As mentioned, the only issue that I had was with a very few 3rd party Transitions, and PrPro was nice enough to tell me exactly where these were used, and what their names were. I just wrote down those TimeCodes, added Cross-Dissolves to replace whatever the previous editor had used, and was up and editing.
Now, I did have to go through the "Where is file ____?" process, as the previous editor had drawn Assest from ALL over an external HDD, with no folder structures, or anything useful - what a kludge! I organized all of the Assets (many thousands) into logical order, and once I had re-established the links, all went beautifully.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - the reason that I asked about platforms is that Pr was X-platofrm, but then with PrPro, through version 2.0, it was PC-only. It was not until CS3, that it went back X-platform. This created a little problem for Mac users, with newer PrPro versions, but older PC Projects. We get about 1 of these issues per year, and the answer is for the Mac user to befriend a PC-person, with the right version of PrPro, do that Import step, then Save_As, and hand off the now, X-platform version of the PRPROJ. Hey, it fosters "hands across the aisle," and we've found several PC-users, with the right versions around here, who have done that conversion, out of the kindness of their hearts. That had zero to do with your Project, but wanted you to know why I asked.
