Trying to get a mac on my wireless router through a pc

i am tring to get a mac computer to hook up on my wireless router. my router is hooked to a pc and i have been tring to get it on the mac but it is not reading any signals. my router is wrt54g

You may need to update the firmware of the router. Also, if you're using any wireless security, add a $ at the beginning of your password.

Problems setting up my TC. Have just bought new iMac(OS 10.6.8) and  TC. I tried to set it up. iMac cannot find it. I have tried direct connection with an ethernet cable to Mac or direct to my wireless router but nothing. Just a flashing orange light. Help for a simpleton please. Have tried reseting TC, but to no avail.

Just updated from 10.6.7 ---> 10.6.8 and had the same issue. Despite having done a clean install from 10.6 and got everything back off my TC, now Time Machine can't find it!
Green light is on, ethernet cable conected, network CP says its conected but nothing. Airport Utility can't find it. Hit reset button, Orange flashing light but still no show in Airport Utility.
But I know its there, as rebooting from 10.6 SL disk shows the backups are still ok?
    Hmm, ideas anyone?

  • Cannot see Mac Mini Server from Internet: DynDNS alias gets thru cable modem to wireless router, not to the Mac Mini. How to configure?

I want to make my Mac Mini Server (Lion) visible to the Internet from my home LAN. I have followed the Lion server install wizards and also set up a dynamic DNS at DynDNS.com.
When I enter the Internet address with the proper alias from a web browser, I get dumped into the admin screen of the Linksys wireless router WRT300N. Hint: the WRT300N provides DHCP for the LAN, not the cable modem providing DHCP. The WRT300N has DDNS service set up. NAT and RIP are disabled. The Mac Mini DHCP is reserved.
Suggestions? I could use the Motorola Surfboard SB6121 to provide DHCP but have hesitations.
Point me to the right discussion/article and get me back on track, please.

This sounds like a simple port forwarding issue, but I don't understand your LAN setup.
The WRT300N has DDNS service set up. NAT and RIP are disabled.
The chances are, you're running NAT somewhere in your network. If not the WRT then what? If it's your cable modem then you must have port forwarding configured on the cable modem, and that's where you need to focus - change the port forwarding to point to your Mac Mini's address rather than the WRT.
HOWEVER, it is far more common to have the wireless router perform NAT and DHCP, which is why I question your setup.
    Not directly related, but:
The Mac Mini DHCP is reserved
Nix this. Your server should be configured manually, with a static IP address, not DHCP, even with a reservation in the DHCP server. The only advantage of DHCP is for dynamic hosts (hence the 'D' in 'DHCP') or if you expect to change your entire local subnet on any kind of frequent basis. The reality is that you can't just change the IP address of Mac OS X Server like this - there are too many dependencies, so it's better to set it manually, knowing that there's a cost (and pain) to change the server's address.

  • I am trying to get a 8500a connected over wireless but it is not linking to d-link router dir-615.

The printer connects to the same router via wired port but will not get a valid address using wireless.  IP address is 169.254.140.246 in the wireless network test report even though everything is labeled PASS
    This question was solved.

I have about 8 things on the same network and they all work.  It is only the printer.  Changing to WPA is better for security anyway so just have to go reenter the netork info on everything.
Weird that the printer reported it was link successfully when it had an invalid IP address.

  • Mac not recognizing wireless router

I have a G3 imac that I am trying to connect to a wireless network connection from a G4 mac. The G4 mac is connected to a Netgear wireless router and the G3 mac has an original airport card installed. I have checked all of the installation twice of the airport card, I have the router set for 802.11b or 802.11g as suggested, and I cannot get a connection. I tried using the assist me thing and the farthest I got was to entering a password (it said all of the passwords I got were wrong) and didn't find any networks when it scanned for them. Right now all I want to do is be able to have wireless internet by using the router. I also have a PC that found it very easily and is using it just fine. Please help. I have been working through this all day and haven't come up with anything.

I am still trying to find a solution, but I did contact netgear and they gave me the following response: I appreciate the opportunity to assist you. In regards to your concern, please follow the steps bellow to find out the network key.
    1. Open the browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape)
    2. Access the router (usually http://192.168.1.1 or www.routerlogin.net)
    3. Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it)
    4. Click on Wireless Settings on the left hand side.
    5. Under the security options you will see 4 key boxes and the key one has the network key, which you need.
You need to type in the 10 digits number as a password if still it is not accepting the password then try to use '$' symbol as a prefix in password.
If the issue is still persisting, please write us back in detail.
This solution did not help me, but maybe it will you.

  • What are the settings for connecting to a Mac behind a wireless router?

I have a client with an iMac. His Mac connects to the internet through a wireless router which gets its signal from a cable modem. My Mac is running 10.6. The remote iMac is running 10.5.
How do I configure my Mac (Administrator) and the remote iMac so a connection can be made using Remote Desktop.
    Thanks!

In the AirPort Utility, I selected the Advanced tab, and then selected Port Mapping.
Q: What service do I choose from the drop-down menu? Also, where do I enter the two ports you mentioned? Public UDP Port(s)? Public TCP Port(s)? Private IP Address: Private UDPPort Private TCP Port?
    still confused, I guess. Thanks!

  • I get 2 BSSID from 1 wireless router!!!

I am currently getting 2 wireless signals from 1 wireless router.
The name of the signals are the same(I labeled them as Wooney) and they have different mac addresses.
I went to the router setup and checked the mac addresses and found out that one of the two mac addresses belongs to the wireless and the other belongs to the wired.
Is it normal for a router to have 2 separate mac addresses for wireless and wired?
Also, if it is, why is it that my wired mac address is sending out signals through wireless?  I can't set WEP on the wired mac address and I believe people are stealing my wireless.
    HELP!!!!

As I have never encountered this one before, I might have but it may be a different issue... But anyway, the only issue I can help you with is not being able to set you WEP. Just upgrade the firmware and you should be able to do that.

  • AirportExtreme as wireless router through DSL modem on PC - not working.

Hello all. I've searched through several forums trying to find something could answer my question, but nothing came of it. Hopefully you can help,
Our family has just recently purchased 2 new macbooks (love 'em!) and have been able to join our wirless network (linksys wireless-g 2.4ghz). A few days ago, we purchased the AEBS to replace the Linksys, however, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it work. The PC run windows XPSP2, using a basic DSL modem. I've tried various methods of connecting the AEBS to my computer/modem.
now, I read through the instructions to see that my PC must have a wireless card?
Am I correct in assuming that the DSL modem and the AEBS work together to put out a wireless signal, and from that, my PC uses this wireless card to connect to that?
I've tried doing a direct connection with my DSL modem and AEBS, where nothing is actually plugged into the computer. I use a USB wireless donlge thingy and it connects to the network hunky dory. However...no internet. The setup utility for the AEBS does everything all shiny but I am still not able to connect through my PC, or my macbooks. the MB's see the network, but no actual internet.
Is there a way to directly connec the AEBS to my computer and modem without a wireless card for my PC?
Thank you SO much everyones time!
A mac newbie and wireless newbie,
    Ogo

In that case I would configure your network as follows.
DSL Modem -> WAN port of Airport Extreme Base Station
LAN Port of Airport Extreme Base Station -> Windows PC
The two MacBook Pros would join the network wirelessly.
Connecting a XP PC to a Airport Network via the LAN port of the AEBS

  • How do I connect my laptop to my Linksys wireless router through the internal wireless card?

I just purchased a gateway laptop and was trying to hook my Linksys wireless router up to it. Ive gotten it hooked up but only through the secondary device (that catches the signal)... I was wondering if there is anyway that I could make my internal wireless internet card a point or no? Can I only connect it to the USB network adapter or is there really a way to go COMPLETELY wireless? Thank you for your time...

Is your internal wireless card enabled? Go to device manager and make sure it is enabled.

  • Trying to get 2 macs on to the same wireless network..?

    Hello,
Never used to have a problem, but since upgrading 2 macs to Leopard and then Snow Leopard, they both seem to 'fight' to get on to our wireless network. One will work fine, but as soon as the 2nd book is opened, it seems to 'jam' the first, and neither can get on.
I'm running a regular BT Voyager 205 router, and am creating the network via a TimeCapsule.
Any thoughts? Are there some boxes I've failed to tick?
    Thanks in advance
    GUy

To check that your Time Capsule work:
1- is the status light green?
2- when you select the airport icon on the top right of your screen, can you see your network name?
3- are you able to connect to the internet trough the TC?
4- are you able to utilize the hard drive inside the TC? (does it appear in the Finder under Shared)
The wireless network you are connecting to; is this a GuestNetwork setup on the TC? GuestNetworks can be configures so that clients connecting to it are unable to communicate (this can be changed).
Check the System Preferences > Security > Firewall on both machines, if they are set to Block all incoming connections you will not be able to connect.
Check the System Preferences > Sharing, make sure the correct services are checked.
Open Network Utility > Port scan, see if the ports belonging to the services you are trying to use are open.

  • My software update shows that no update is available for my machine.  It shows that it is running Snow Leopard 10.5.8, downloads for the 10.6.8 update will not open.  I am trying to get the mac store app so I can upgrade to Lion.

I have not been successful in obtaining the latest version of Snow Leopard so I have the Mac Store app.  My computer shows that there are no updates available even though it only shows it running version 10..5.8.  I would like to upgrade to Lion.  When I download the .dmg updates from the web, they try unsuccessfully to open in Itunes or Quicktime.  I can not get them to run.  What is my next step?

As noted, in order to update from OS X 10.5.x to OS X 10.6.x you will need to acquire the retail package for OS X 10.6; that initial jump can not be done via download.
The current shipping retail version for OS X 10.6 is 10.6.3. Once you have installed that you can update it to OS X 10.6.8 via the Combo Update - running Software UPdate should be able to fetch that for you. You can also download it directly -
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Once you have installed that you can download and install the update for OS X 10.7 (Lion).
