TRYING TO GET A WATERCOLOR PAPER EFFECT USING PHOTSHOP 6.0

I use Photoshop 6.0 and just created the outhouse image. The top image was created SEVERAL years ago but cannot recall the steps I took to achieve that watercolor paper, or "natty" looking paper effect. I must have visited a link and never saved it. But my question is in regards how to apply that same look to the outhouse image. Is there a site, or page you could direct me to, that offers step by step visuals to attain that look?

I do go on...
Problem:- I have re-engineered a BPM to reduce long runtimes in Collect Scenario.
(1) Incoming to XI single xml messages --> collected in a folder on XI server.
(2) Trigger renaming of messages extension to *.xml in folder at specific time ie once daily.
(3) Receiving Communication Channel (type File) is first step in BPM gets triggered.
(4) BPM block 1 Receive step in loop collects messages (1,2,3...n) into multiline container of same type as messages.
(5) After 2 minutes Deadline Branch triggered.
(6) Ends Block 1 moves to Block 2
(7) Block 2 Transform Step of multiline container to single message type.

(8) Send step Single Message mapped using BIC Mapping to a Report XSLT Template.
If the process is successful then I get in XML message Monitor an entry and a payload. Of the concatenated messages.
If the process has an error the users want to be told about it as soon as possible hence I set up Alerting. Which works.
But on running a test scenario where message3 (structure is incorrect) at Step (7) the BPM throws the Alert correctly (no information passed as to error) and the Workflow Finishes.
In XML message Monitor the result is message1 is Greenflag. Message2, and Message3 are chequered flag.
No Message Payload generated from the BPM.
The users are not happy with this nor am I.
(1) I look at Workflow Log of BPM and see that step(7) the transformation step has information in the container elements MAPPING and TRACE (no way to reference these from BPM I know of).
(2) I read blogs etc and discover I should perhaps try to add more steps to my Exception/Alert Branch to try to deliver a Payload so the XML message Monitor shows something. Is this a correct assumption?
(3) I try to make my Alert message more informative but I am not skilled in what information is available to identify the error. The Workflow Container is not enough.
If I add a container operation to instantiate a container variable I would like to grab the Payload at least of the multiline element.
(4) To produce a Payload in the Exception Branch to output from the multiline element do I have to do a Loop and Container Operation to Split the multiline message up again into individual messages to send out to an error folder.
(5) I am trying to make it easier for the users to find the errorred files than searching through the Archive folder from the initial receive step.
(6) I am trying to stretch my knowledge of XI Error reporting so I can deliver a better solution to the users.
(7) I have some Java Skills from 10 years ago when life was simpler hence very rusty and am finding it difficult to fit it into the context of UDF's (what information can be accessed etc).
I hope this is clearer about my self made problem. I should never have mentioned error messaging to the users...

How to get an oil painting effect using Illustrator

How do you blend the colors in the body for the shadows and the muscles, etc.. I created an outline of the image, and I could start by using a gradient mesh but using a gradient mesh means it gets too complex and we have to create the mesh in the shape of the body which makes the coloring more difficult and probably isn't the right way to do it.If I wanted to create a similar image can someone tell me about how to do the coloring for this. I know how to get the color palettes right and the shadows but, the main problem I'm facing is blending in the different shadows created on the body with the skin tone. I don't mind spending hours using a gradient mesh to color this but I still think I'll face the problem I just mentioned.
If anyone can help me out it is appreciated, please try to elaborate on the details so I get a better understanding.

Well, basically you lay down a base g-mesh (A). You get tones and shades close with general lighting in mind. Then you can lay down an additional layer of color or additional g-meshes for further showign and highlights. (B) when these are combined you get more dramatic tones (C) that are more easily tweaked and adjusted. In addition, using the Appearance Panel you can also add fills to apply textures (D)
Essentially for me, I find laying down a mid-range color base is best. Then I can add dark and light objects on top of that base to alter lighting further. Trying to get lighting perfect in one pass is expectionally difficult in any medium - traditional or digital (except 3d software).

Watercolor paper texture, Deckle Edge

Way back when I used to be able to use Photoshop to create a watercolor paper effect. I believe it was the 'sandstone' filter. I can't find it in CS5 or CS3 Extended, the only two Photoshop programs I have installed currently. Does anyone know if this effect is now listed under a different name?
If not, any ideas on how far back it might have been, and is there a way I can add that filter effect from an old version to my current version of PS?

A forum search turned up a tutorial on creating a deckle edge using the Ocean Ripple filter. I'll give it a try.

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back here. (migraine - then it slipped what mind I have left!)
The recommended resolution on this monitor is 1920 x 1200. I decided to give it a lengthy trial and now that I have, I'm about ready to resort to something more reasonable. At the recommended resolution, a 1000 pixel wide image is quite small. Editing is in the details, of course, and I need a magnifying glass to see 'em! I know I could zoom in, but going past 100% hasn't worked well - for sharpening in particular. Having given it a a truly good try, I'm going to opt for lower resolution in increments until I find my sweet spot.
Color is another problem. This laptop has a built in colorimeter, with three options for saturation levels, but in my opinion, all the calibration choices are oversaturated. I tried my old(er) GretagMacBeth Eye One and it won't run on Win7, 64 bit. So I tried turning OFF the built in color, used a Windows calibration setup very similar to the old Adobe Gamma and liked what I got pretty well. At least whites on web pages weren't pink.
Unfortunately, I discovered the laptop would revert to the built in calibrator's color space without letting me know and I messed up several images that will have to be done over. Now I've completely disabled it, removed the built in calibration program. Obvioulsly, I'll need yet another, expensive calibration tool to get truly accurate color. I'm still researching.
Oh, and yes, I know Firefox can be set up to read embedded color profiles, and that's what I use. Still, even with the basic color calibration, reds are quite saturated. More than they are to the human eye. Well, my human eye, anyway. (I believe Macs have always been able to read embedded color profiles, if you're a Mac user.) With the Windows calibration, using Firefox set up to read color profiles, I do NOT see differences in the first two images on this page: http://www.gballard.net/photoshop/srgb_wide_gamut.html
The third does change.
One wonderful thing is the brightness of this screen. I'm sitting in the cockpit of my boat, under an awning, and reading this screen is no problem. My former laptop's screen was a black hole out here. Of course, setting brightness, when it can be so very bright, is a challenge in itself. Especially since the angle of the screen needs to be perfectly balanced so what you see is the true image. So, good luck to you when that dreadful day comes. If the internet ran on AdobeRGB, all would be fine. And like I said, for printing, it appears what I see on screen will be closer than ever to my prints, especially with a 'vivid color' inkjet printer. (Epson.)

Any way to get rid of reflection effect in .Mac slideshows?

I find the reflection effect in the slideshows totally unnecassary, and very distracting. With some photos it even has a distorting effect. I tried to get rid of it by using a workaround posted last year:

But this no longer seems to work. The source code also looks quite different. Any ideas out there?

Lens blur effect used on Heroes

Hi, I'm trying to figure out if the effect used so much on Heroes is an in camera effect or just a lens blur/mask? It's kind of a depth of field effect but it has a little harsher blur than you usually see in camera.
For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, it's usually based around the actor for medium to close up shots. The actor is even sometimes partially blurred. I can't say that I've seen it in action shots so it could easily be a static mask of a lens blur?

I'm having the same problem. It's not an issue with my TV, i've turned this feature off. I've tried playing with the ATV display settings but nothing works. When I stream netflix from my Samsung bluray player, I don't get the soap opera effect, but when I stream any video from the ATV, the soap opera effect is there. I'm thinking it's a choice that Apple made, but I really wish it could be turned off. Not a lot of people are searching for this, because it can be easy to overlook, but it's driving me nuts!

I cannot find this 300GB "Backup" in the Finder, only in the Storage info when I check "About This Mac".
You are probably using Time Machine to backup your MacBook Pro, right? Then the additional 300 GB could be local Time Machine snapshots. Time Machine will write the hourly backups to the free space on your hard disk, if the backup drive is temporarily not connected. You do not see these local backups in the Finder, and MacOS will delete them, when you make a regular backup to Time Machine, or when you need the space for other data.

You have tested the library on the external drive, and so your photos are save there.
The local TimeMachine snapshot probably now contains a backup of the moved library. Try, if connecting your Time Machine drive will reduce the size of your local Time Machine snapshots.

I have recently tried to back up my phone onto this new account and it asks if i want to authorize it and asks for the password for my mom's account. I dont know if it will just sync my iphone's information to my new account or just add my mom's apple ID account to my itunes on my computer. That number is for an apple server in the UK that is used for iMessage activation. A hidden SMS is snet to that number when you turn iMessage on and is used to verify your phone number. I suggest you turn iMessage off. In settings/phone turn on dial assist. Check with your carrier to see if you can send an international SMS as you end that possibility to activate iMessage. Rest your phone (Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the home button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the ON/OFF slider) then let both buttons go and wait for device to restart (no data will be lost).) then turn iMessage back on.
