Trying to get album art back after adding it to 7500 songs (external drive)

I just got a new iMac and I am trying to add album art and organize my library. I had the library on an external hard drive, and I'm trying to get it on this new mac's internal hard drive (where it will stay, since the first move to the external drive removed all the playlists and ratings.)
I just spent over 10 hours adding artwork to all the songs and now that the ext. HD is ejected, the artwork is gone.
After reconnecting the ext. HD, it was the same--all the artwork is missing.
Please point me to a relevant thread, if possible. I was unsuccessful in locating one that would be helpful.
Also, how can I do a search for a thread that just brings up the topics, without answers to questions?
Thanks, Jennifer

JP:
Are you sure the artwork's gone? When you add artwork to a music track via iTunes, it is actually added via the ID3 tag, which are embedded in the song file. The only way that the artwork could be removed if if the tag was modified or you converted your music files to a format that does not support ID3 v.2.x tags.
When you Get Info for a single random song file, and click on the tab for artwork, is this pane empty?
Have you opened the show artwork box under the Source menu in iTunes? (click on the button with the rectangle below the Source menu).
Otherwise, I am at a loss as to how all of your artwork disappeared simply by moving it from one drive to another.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Cant get album art after converting from wma

After convertong old wma files into itunes format, clicking on get album art initiates the process and it seems to go through each album retrieving art, yet picture never appears. Any ideas?

OK in windows media player, it will pull the album art up, but it doesn't attach the art to the song, instead it hides the art in the system and attaches a series of numbers to be ID. In iTUnes tho the art is attached to the songs tags.
Now there may be some program you can find on the net that will automaticly do this for you, I have no idea but heres how to do it manually.
Now the art work will reside where the song is. Since most music is put in the "My MUsic" folder i'll focus there, but if you have songs in another folder there artwork will be in that folder with them. Open My Music folder and goto tools>folder options>view tab Now check "Show Hidden Files and Folder" then UNCHECK "Hide Protected Operating System Files" You should now see all the album art listed.

  • Fix/revert the way it gets album art?

I tag all my albums "(01) Debut", "(02) Second Album", etc.. so they're in chronological order.
Anyway, after upgrading to the latest iTunes (I think I had 8.0.1 or something), it no longer gets album art for them, unless I change the album title to "Debut" and "Second Album"
It worked in the last version I had, why did you change it when it worked fine? This always happens with iTunes, each version gets more and more bloated...
Another thing, why does it go A-Z and then 0-9? What on Earth is up with that?
Can you fix it plz? Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply Chris.
If I did sort album by year, it wouldn't work on my iPod. As for previously getting artwork with the correct title and then changing it. When adding music to my library, I tag it all first, and then click get album artwork, which always worked fine before. Also, I've done a fresh install of Windows before, reinstalled iTunes and added all my music (tagged with (XX) at the beginning) iTunes would automatically get the artwork. Now it's missing the artwork for 197 albums, so I don't really feel like changing them all manually...I guess I could use an older version of iTunes, but is this likely to be fixed in the future, as I'd rather have an up-to-date version of the programs on my computer.
And I know it's done A-Z, 0-9 for a while now, but I thought while I was posting about this I might aswell ask.
    Thanks again.

  • ITunes 10.0.7.21 shows a white box instead of artwork for most of my albums.  Many of these are albums I purchased on itunes.  Also when I hit get album art it deleted the artwork it already had form many albums and says it cant find it.

    OS is Windows 7
I updated iTunes the other day and I decided to run "get album art" and instead of finding artwork, it made some of the artwork I already had show up as white squares, or disapear entirely.  The ones that are white squares show up under the get info, but not in itunes.  I did click in view for show al artwork, no luck.  Many of these albums I bought from iTunes.  The ones that the artwork was deleted some albums I can buy on iTunes, but already owned, and iTunes found the artwork before, but now cannot.  Some are albums that I spent many hours finding and adding the artwork myself.  I am very frustrated.  I cannot find the time to manually install artwork for thousands of songs.
My work computer is Windows 8, so I really don't want to hear windows vs OSX argument.  My company won't switch to mac because you like it better, so I just need a solution to my issue.  iTunes it has always worked better for me on my work PC than my macBook, I dont know why, but I don't take two laptops with me when I travel so I have my iTunes library on the PC that has to come with me.  This is the first time an update has screwed things up for me.

Well my first guess was wrong. The line that failed is the one that writes out the image to disk. I've not revisited the code for that script for ages, but it seems I did add in an extra test for missing files a little while later, then forgot to upload the change. I can reproduce the error message if I deliberately rename a file to confuse iTunes so that seems the most likely reason for your problem with the script. I've uploaded a new build of CreateFolderArt which should work better.
See FindTracks for a tool to repair broken links. You should probably get that issue fixed first.
I know what SPSS stands for but that is all I know about it.

  • I'm trying to get organized and I just added a bunch of books and pdfs to my itunes library. They were all added immediately to my ipad and iphone even though, itunes automatically putting books on my idevices

I'm trying to get organized and I just added a bunch of books and pdfs to my itunes library. They were all added immediately to my ipad and iphone even though I did not want this. I added them to itunes using add to library and I have both devices set to sync only selected books.
How do I do this in the future so this doesnt happen? Its a lot of work to now manually erase them from each device and it sent my phone over capacity.
    thanks

I dont see the difference in the posts. I dont think theres anything inaccurate or misleading about what I wrote. The items were immediately added to my ipad and my iphone, even though I have them both set to sync only select items. As soon as I added new titles to my itunes library, they were immediately added to the devices. Not on the next sync. Immediately. Both devices were plugged into the computer at the time. Sorry if I failed to mention they were plugged in but I dont see the signifigance youre making out of it. The problem persists anyway.
Now that I did a test without the devices plugged in, the new items were still added as soon as I plugged my devices into the computer ( I do not have them set to sync over wifi).
Since I have both devices set to manually select items to sync, of course I want to manually select new items to sync. For instance, I am not going to read any of these magazines or books on my phone, ever, and I dont want to waste valuable space with them.
    So I'm trying your advice:
I just tried deselecting sync books. It erased all content from ibooks on my device. I then dragged
one title onto the device, and it just goes back to syncing select books, with the one title selected.
It appears that wont work to solve my issue. The next time I add something to itunes it will be put on my phone. Is this really something most people want? To select to manualy control what content is synced, but then have things automatically added. It seems inconsistent to me.

  • Trying to get Album Artwork

I have been trying to get album artwork (Advanced Tab -> Get Album Art) and then once it asks me if I'm sure I want to get it, iTunes 'encounters a problem and needs to close'. Anyone know whats going on or how to fix this?
Or another way to fix my library with the album art its missing?

Well I don't know what to say about you first problem. However I may be able to help with getting album artwork. When itunes cant find it I usually go to cduniverse.com and search for the album i'm looking for. When you find it just simply copy and paste. Hope that helps.

  • Get album art criteria for download

    Hi,
When I say "Get Album Art" in iTunes, for some albums it doesn't do anything. I check the iTunes store and they have the album but it won't download the artwork. I tried matching the album name to the exact same name but that doesn't solve the problem. I can't see anything else that is listed differently in my details from the iTunes version...
I really want that high quality art from iTunes.
Anyone know what iTunes searches for to get the artwork?
    Thanks in advance.
    Pete

In my experience, the album, artist and song names must exactly match the ones of the iTunes Store.
The song names are less important when you're trying to get artwork for an entire album.
Sometimes I notice some songs in my library that don't have the exact name of the one in the Store, but the artwork does show up in iTunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Getting album art for imported music

I imported my wma music when I switched to iTunes. However, only one or two of the imported albums have album art. I enable the automatic album art retrieval tool in store/preferences, but I am still not getting album art on the imported music. I also imported some cd's, which, as I understand it, should get album art automatically; it hasn't happened. It it me? Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Are these items sold in the itunes store? It only fetches artwork on things it sells, so no AC/DC or Beatles artwork will be fetched.
Second, your tags have to exactly match whatever is in the iTS database. For example - a while back iTS had Led Zeppelin's Mothership listed under "Lead Zeppelin", so nobody was getting any artwork for it. They have fixed that one....

How do I automatically get album art?

If the album is available in the iTunes store you can download it from there. • Album Art Disappears after not using iPod for several days...what up?

I've searched all the forums about this, but couldn't find anything on point. Album art loads fine from itunes to the ipod. as long as i'm using the ipod regularly, there's no problem.
but, if i don't use it for awhile, some of the album art has disappeared. More album art disappears if i wait longer b/t uses (i think). This is where you turn on your ipod and you get that apple screen, then after a while the normal first screen comes up (play lists, artists, albums, etc.).
Any ideas on why this is happening and what i can do to fix it? I'm running the latest itunes and the latest ipod updater (1-10-2006 i think). It's a 30gb color ipod.
    thanks!
    jeff

You didn't mentioned the last version of iTunes ... I had a similar problem with album art but after installing iTunes 6.0.3 (with iPod updater 2006-01-10) and going thru the drill of deselecting and selecting "Display album artwork in your iPod" everything was fine.
    Hope this works.

  • How to get album art to appear on nano

Well, I have all of my songs in iTunes with album artwork, yet when I sync'd a songlist to the nano and play any song, no album art shows up. None. Zero.
This should be as easy as transferring the songs.
On the itunes window, it lists that 0 photos are on the nano. I even tried syncing a small iphoto library of 16 photos to it. The photos appear, yet NONE of the album art shows up for ANY of my songs.
    Respectfully requesting a clue.

Thanks to all who've replied so far. When I get home to both my home Mac and the Nano I will try each suggestion step by step.
On the off chance I stopped by our local Apple store to ask a rep about it. His reply was "only album art that will show on the nano will be from songs you've purchased through the iTunes Music Store." I asked him to repeat that just to make sure I understood him.
I said so, all of the CDs I have now ripped into iTunes, and scanned artwork from the covers and sync'd in iTunes - will NOT show up on my nano when I sync the nano to my iTunes library. He said that's correct.
I think this guy is full of it. But then that's just my opinion.
Can anyone confirm that they have artwork showing on a Nano that was NOT downloaded from the iTunes music store? Rather - like most of us - ripped from a CD, artwork gracefully found from amazon and dragged to the iTunes window?
Thanks for all the help so far gang. Will update in about 6 hours when I get home.
Oh - BTW, through out all this the nano reported 0 photos until I uploaded about 16 photos from the iPhoto library just to make sure that was working properly. It still reports 640 songs, 16 photos, capacity 3.7 Gb, Available 290 Mb, and version 1.0, serial # ###, Model PA005LL

  • Best way to get album art

what is the best program to use for getting album art?

Oooorrrr, if you're referring to getting an album cover into your iTunes (and eventually into your iPod when adding songs)..Amazon or google as was suggested (you can also click on Images when Googling) click on the album cover, drag and drop into the "Drag Album Artwork Here" space of iTunes. You can probably use the same procedure if you have your own images you'd like to add to each album/song...

  • Can't get Album Art for CDs

I ripped a bunch of CDs to Windows Media Player and it got the album art for all of them. Then later I installed iTunes and it automatically converted the songs over to it from WMP, but iTunes did not get the album art and it says that it is not available when I click on "Get Album Art." What do I do?

Not a complete answer, but will get you most of the art work you need.
Find the album on the Internet. I usually try Amazon.com, puretracks.com, or any site that will let you right click and save the art work shown. Use the "Save As" and save it as a "jpg" file. Make sure you put it in a location, and give it a name you can find.
Open iTunes, find the album and right click on it. Click on "Get Info", go to the "Artwork" tab, and click on "Add". Brows to the location where you saved the artwork and add it.
If you have more that one song in the same album you can add the same artwork to each song by right clicking on the artwork just imported and selecting copy. Go to the next song's artwork and right click and select past.
Not the best, but after I find the album I can add the artwork to all the songs in an album in less that two minutes.
It is taking a little work, but I am slowly overcoming the stupidity of the Apple programmers who wrote iTunes. It is a fairly good program, but it could be much better if Apple would make it easier for users to submit suggestions, and if they incorporated the popular suggestions. Unfortunately Apple has always had an arrogant attitude and they are not likely to change any time soon.
