Trying to get an iMac 233 Bondi to power up

I am trying to revive an iMac 233 Bondi. There was perhaps a power outage due to ice storm, but am unsure. Checked power cord, etc, no luck. There is no fan or HD noise, no chime, nothing to indicate that there is any connection to power inside.

you may need to reset the Mac's PRAM, NVRAM, and Open Firmware. Shut down the Mac, then power it up, and before the screen lights up, quickly hold down the Command, Option, P, and R keys, until the Mac has chimed twice more after the powerup chime. Then, before the screen lights up, hold down Command-Option-O-F until the Open Firmware screen appears. Then enter these lines, pressing Return after each one:
reset-nvram
set-defaults
reset-all
"The reset-all command should restart your Mac. If so, you have successfully reset the Open Firmware settings."

  • Adding firewire to imac 233

    Hello,
I have an iMac 233 i've updated it to Mac OS X 10.2 and i've updated my memory to 256. I was wondering if there is any thing out that that i could hook up a firewire port to my mac.i've been looking around and been finding externial once and internal. i dont think that the i could use the internal ones. And if there is an externial firewire port would it hook up to just a USB Port? Thanks for taking the time and reading my post. If you would know anything please let me know. Thanks again
    Keith

    Hi patchworkhippie16,
    Welcome to the forum.
The iMac 233 (Bondi Blue) does not have a firewire port and you cannot add one. You're limited to only USB. All external peripherals (hards disks, printers, cd/dvd writers etc) will have at least one usb port.
If you have any further questions I would suggest you post them in the "Using your iMac (CRT)" forum which can be found here:

I have an HP LaserJet 8150N that I use for my work and I have had this printer for ever and it is one heck of a work horse! I am trying to get it connected via ethernet cable directly to my iMac. I always had this printer connected via a network so I don't know if I am able to connect directly with a cable since it is a network printer. I have tried to reconfigure the printer using the JetDirect menu giving it a new IP address but still no luck. If anyone could help me through this issue I would appreciate it.

Second, seeing "connecting" and connection failed is normal. You must click on "Connect As" in the Finder window and then enter the username and password for the admin account on the other computer. That should fix things.
    Thanks for responding.
When does clicking on "Connect As" happen in the process above?
    After step six? Seven?
    After the connection has failed?
Is this the FInder window that shows the icon of the computer you want to copy the file from?
You should see "Connect As" in the Finder near the top right of the window as shown below:

  • I am trying to get pages docs created on my iPhone onto my iMac

I am trying to get pages docs created on my iPhone onto my iMac. I have iTunes 10.5 and the help docs says that in iTunes the Pages app should automatically list the docs on my iPhone. I am using the 'send to iTunes' option in the 'share and print' menu but no files appear in iTunes (the iPhone is connected and recognised by iTunes). Any ideas? The docs don't mention that I need a particular version on Pages on my Mac.
    Any help gratefully recevied.

    Dear Peter,
Thank you for the suggestion. I have looked at the discussion you highlighted. Unfortunately, it does not really deal with the issue I am experiencing. The discussion concerns problems with iCloud. I am not attempting to use iCloud to transfer files.
The discussion does mention using iTunes to first back up the files. However, the correspondent does not mention the problem I am experiencing. I understand from the help docs that when I after I have synced my iPhone, then the files I have created using Pages should be listed in the Apps part of iTunes. However, this does not seem to be so on my computer. The files do not appear even when I use the 'send to iTunes' option.
Is there something I am missing?
    Any further help gratefully received,
    Andrew

You stated; " I have been successful with My Power Mac "
A Power Mac is incapable of being upgraded to Mavericks. It is a PPC Mac which can only run versions of OS X up to 10.5.8 and no higher. Any version of OS X higher that 10.5.8 requires an Intel processor to run.
Does the iMac meet the hardware requirements for Mavericks?

Thank you, Allen.  My iMac is a 2009.  I can't shine a light into the disc drive slot as it has a built in whisker cover that prevents anything from getting in.  It will accept a disc half way in before the disc reaches a springy obstruction.
About 3 weeks ago, the computer locked up so I inserted the OS disc and reinstalled it.  In general, the computer works just like it used to but we've had a few quirks appear; for example, this is one of them.  Also, we can't figure out how to keep from having to sign-in when we turn the computer on.  Also, we can't access our one on-line account anymore.  Very strange.

P.S.:  Just realized I mis-spelled your name.  Sorry Allan.

  • I am trying to get my new Time Capsule to be recognized on my Air Port Utility on an Imac.

I am trying to get my new Time Capsule to be recognized on my Air Port Utility on an Imac.

It has to flash rapidly .. not the normal flashing which is slow.
Are you holding in reset and actually feeling it switch on.. and keep holding it until the LED goes crazy and flashes really fast.
If that is not working your TC is faulty.. I suggest you take it to Apple for testing.

imac leopard and xp OS - using xp and trying to get a screencapture.
How do go about doing this?

I am running XP with VPC on my iMac G5 under Leopard.
I had trouble installing Leopard, but with command S and fsck y everything turned out ok.
No trouble at installing VPC on top of Leopard. I had all the original VPC disks.
That said, I do not have any trouble doing a Mac screen shot while in Windows XP. I'm using spaces with windows XP in one and Mac stuff on another one. Takes several seconds for the screen shot to appear on the Mac desktop though.

  • Bondi iMac 233 won't boot from hard drive,

I have a Bondi iMac 233, 192MB running OSX 10.3 which was being throw out at work, the hard drive (40GB IBM Deathstar) was failing but it would still boot up. I installed an original 6GB iMac Hard Drive, low level formated the drive and installed OS9.2. Now the iMac refuses to boot from this hard drive or even another 4GB Hard Drive.
The iMac will boot from CD and I can see and install a new OS onto the Hard Drive, OS9 or OSX, I can choose the drive under the Startup Control Panel but the computer refuses to boot from the Hard Drive.
    I have zapped the PRAM,
    Reset the NVRAM
    Reset the CUDA chip.
    Reset the Logic Board
    Reseated Cables
    Reseated Processor and memory modules
    All to no avail.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
    thanks
    Bondi iMac   Mac OS 9.2.x

I've been doing this with about 14 iMacs slot/tray that I'm prepping for inner city kindergartens in Chicago. I have had that problem where in moving from 10.3.9 to 9.2.2 the iMacs wouldn't recognize the HDs. Booting from an original iMac OS 9 install disc and selecting the HD as start up has always solved the problem for me.
However, and maybe this is related,
I've had the problem with a couple of tray loaders where in moving from 10 to 9 it wouldn't recognize the CD-ROM drive. I went through a bunch of drives before I figured out that booting from an iMac OS 8.6 CD made the iMac rerecognize the drive. I was able to reset?? all the drives that wouldn't previously work using this method. Weird but maybe there's a chip in the drive board that needed to be reset. Dunnno about the HDs tho' but it could be related.

  • Imac 233 - beeps and doesn't startup

    Hey,
i'm a new poster on this forum, looking for some help.
My tangerine imac 233 is behaving strangely: when switching it on it beeps 4 times and doesn't give any additional sign of being alive.
i can hear both the fan and the hd going, but there is no sign at all that something is happening.
The screen is not giving any sign of life and there is no response from the keyboard (ie caps lock doesn't switch on and the power button doesn't allow to switch off the imac, though it allows to turn the power on).
I've tried to reset the NVRAM, but i couldn't see any result, as the imac doesn't even get to the Chimes sound.
I'd love to keep using this imac, is there anything i can do to keep it alive?
    many thanks

Ciao e benvenuto alle discussioni di Apple,
4 Beeps is the Power On Self Test telling you something is wrong. I think you need to take this in to a professional.
You can recover the data by installing the hard disk in an external enclosure and transferring it to the iBook.

  • IMac 233 problem in bootingup with Extensions on.

    Hi!
My iMac 233 is updated with firmware 1.2 and i have Panther running on this machine before. I have upgraded the hard disk to 40 GB. When i tried to boot with CD OS 9, and there is a "?" mark symbol on a disk folder. Then tried with OS 8.5 CD then it booted and I installed by on partition 6 GB.
When tried to boot from Hard disk there is a error message saying "Not Enough memory while using. Turnoff extensions by pressing the shift key while booting" I did the same.It worked fine.
But the problem is when ever I tried to enable the extension i.e. even one extension and turn off rest of them. Still i'm getting the above "error message".
    RAM 160 MB
Tried with Virtual memory on and off
Please help me with this problem.

    iMac G3 233   Mac OS 9.0.x

    hi! Ron JACKLE
I finally managed to get a 9.2.2 CD and installed it. But still i'm getting problem while loading. It says "illegal operation restart the computer and turn off the extensions by pressing the shift key." When i did it works but without extensions I don't knw whats the problem.
When i try load by pressing "C" 8.1 and 8.5 CD are booting. but from hard disk it says to turn off the extensions. But when i try to boot with Mac OS 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 there is a floppy with a question mark on it.
When tried to boot from Panther CD it say to restart the computer and hangs.
As long as i turn off the extensions there is no problem.

  • IMac 233 RAM upgrade-wisdom & advice needed

    Hi-
I have an iMac 233 now running on OS9.2.2., it is a bondi, tray-load-CD-drive, Video memory is 6MB according to system profile. (I think it may be a Rev A but I'm still a little shaky on determining that one). I've been it's only owner since it was new (circa 1997-1998 who really remembers that far back??).
I have 32MB in the bottom memory slot, and 128MB in the top spot (I added it just after I got the computer). So it has 160 MB memory now.
I'm running into memory issues and I want to max out the memory that it can hold.
Some websites say it will take 512 MB. How so? Two 256MB chips? Other sources say I'm limited to 160 MB.
Some memory websites say you'll only know if the larger memory chip works if you try it, because of where your board was made.
Should I try putting a 256MB memory chip in the bottom slot? I understand it is under the top one, and I've been inside the guts before so I'm not intimidated by doing this myself.
Has anyone out there had any success doing something like this?
And are the top and bottom chips different sizes so that one may not fit into the other?
Also, is there anything I will need to reset or worry about when I change the internal 1/2 AA battery? My clock is losing a few minutes every week. I've got the new battery but want to know what to expect popping the old one out.
Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks!

I ran 512MB in my Bondi Blue for years. The lower slot is low profile (1.5" I believe), so you have to get a low profile DIMM for that slot. You can get a 512MB kit for it from www.datamem.com, which is 2X256MB DIMMs. Either one will be low profile, or both will be (since the top slot can fit either low profile or regular size). I've spoken to people who claim to have put 2X512 MB in their Bondis.
Replacing the battery is just a matter of taking the old one out and putting the new one in.
