Trying to get better video quality!

Greetings All,
Ok, I love my new iPad. I also have an iPhone, and love putting my own movies on it. It's easy to make movies for the iPhone, using QuickTime, I simply take my HD (either 1080p or 720p) source movie, and export it (Movie to iPhone), and it does all the rest. These movies will also play on the iPad, BUT, since they were optimized for the iPhone, they look "pixillated" when enlarged on the iPad. Anybody out there know a simple way to improve the quality of the movies you sync with the iPad?
Thanks,
Dave B

I misspoke, I guess. I don't see an iPad-specific export in iMovie, but "Large" works fine for me. Or, you could probably resize it in other ways to even better match the 1024x768 iPad screen. Something larger than iPod size should look better, regardless of how you get there.

  • How can I get better video quality using my appleTV

I have an appleTV (1st) and I want to get better quality from youtube videos, What should I do ?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
YouTube video does not come from the main YouTube site, it is specially encoded for the Apple TV and other devices that don't play flash. Generally quality is fixed with no way to adjust it and is often restricted by the quality of the video that has been uploaded.

  • How do I get good video quality?

I can't seem to get more then 20 fps and not so hot video out of iChat AV. With what should be pretty good connections, I still get stopping or pixelation at times, so I've been trying to isolate the issue.
Conferencing over an airport on an in-house system for a test, with 2.4 megs of pipe (showing in Connection Doctor; other tests show 10 megs up and down) using either iSight or a DV camera, I get 20 fps, no more. OS 10.5.3 on both sides, Quicktime 7.5 on both sides. Intel Duo 2Ghz with 1 Ghz ram on one side, G5 with 5 gigs of ram on the other. One way video chat. No other apps running. No other traffic on the Airport.
We're trying to use this for student "live shots" over the internet. The quality of the video frankly used to be a lot higher with earlier versions.
I don't get it. If it is possible to get 640 X 480, 30 fps out of this, I can't figure it out. Hopefully, one of you will know how to do it. Do I need to install Quicktime Pro? Is there some magic button or setting somewhere? (yes, i is set on LAN) Do I use another application that has low latency like iChat AV but better video quality? Is there an appliance that will do this better? Is there a way to set up a point to point conference? (Quicktime Broadcaster allows this, but has long latency... too long to be usable for our purposes.)
So I'm not getting why I can't do this. Please let me know if you have any ideas.

    Ralph,
Thanks. I've increased the RAM size on both sides, have a blazing fast connection, and use prosumer cameras with good glass and lighting. The boxes on both ends are dedicated to this with nothing else running. I've even met with our campus IT lines to make sure there are blocks or plugs on ports. No good.
I guess its in the CPU or something. It's a bit annoying. I'm a really big fan of iChat. We've used it for "live shots" on election night and as broadband field "live shots" over a 3G telephony connection and wireless broadband. Nothing else we've found is better. It just seems to handle video quality less well in the last couple of versions.
If anyone knows the magic formula.... X- machine, X-plug in, X-external box, X-side processor, I'm interested.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Trying to get a high quality still image

    Hi,
I am trying to get a high quality still image from a 16mm film I completed years ago. I have had it transfered to digital format and brought it in to Final Cut Pro Studio 2. The distributor (Canyon Cinema) wants a high resolution image for the website. 600-dpi or better. When I create a still it comes out 72. How can I increase the resolution of the image for distribution on their website? Thanks to anyone who get guide me to the 21st century...

DPI is essentially meaningless in the video world. DPI is a measurement for the print world only.
But since video resolution equates roughly to 72 DPI, that's the best you'll get. Best to go back to the original film and pull a still from there.
Or you could try one of those resolution enhancing plugins for Photoshop like Genuine Fractals.

  • I am trying to get better playback rendering speed Premiere CS6

I am new to Adobe Premiere CS6.  I am trying to get faster playback rendering speed from my machine.
    Windows 7
i7 4790K Haswell overclocked to 4.5 (watercooled with Corsair)
    16 GB DDR3@799MHz
Asus Z87-WS (4 double graphic card slots)
Geforce GTX 760 (Primary)  GPU hardware acceleration enabled
    Quadro FX5800
250GB Samsung solid state C: (Windows and Adobe)
    250GB Crucial solid state (Scratch)
    2TB Seagate 7200RPM (video files)
    3TB Seagate 7200RPM (storage)
    Seasonic 1000watt PSU
I am primarily editing GoPro videos with effects like TimeWarp or Twixtor and color correction.
I have tried to run the PPBM6 program with no success. I kept getting failure to access files.
I have been looking at adding a second GTX760 with SLI so they will work together.  And possible removing the Quadro if it is slowing things down.
Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks!

...are you SURE your 760 GPU is "enabled" by PPro, and giving you the option of "Mercury Playback Acceleration" under  "General Preferences" ??? If the "Mercury Acceleration" is GREYED OUT and limits you to "software Only", go to Studio 1 website and learn to apply the well known "hack" to enable your 760 in PPro,OR, download their simple program to do it for you.
...Your machine is POWERFUL....especially with your CPU overclock......you MAY want to increase your memory to 32 GB if you are using After Effects....even PPro MAY run better with 32 GB, depending on your workflow.....most systems like yours have at LEAST 32GB system memory.
.....The GoPro codec is natively HIGHLY COMPRESSED and difficult to process, even for beefy machines. That is why they provide the free Cineform tool,( which used to be an expensive professional editing codec), to convert some,or,all of your footage to a more "edit friendly" AVI codec, which will FLY on your machine. HOWEVER, those new AVI files are HUGE.....TRIPLE the original size and requiring a LARGE and FAST disk transfer system. Right now, your single 7200 drive for your media is your SLOWEST component in the chain. The CHEAPEST improvement for you would be to add another MATCHING 2TB 7,200 rpm drive to your existing one and then use the 2 drives to create a fast RAID 0 directly off the mother board to improve the speed of your "media drive". THEN, you MUST insure that this RAID 0 is DILIGENTLY BACKED UP in case of a drive failure in the RAID. This ALSO means you must protect against an unexpected power failure which could destroy the RAID data if the failure happened during a critical write operation.....so,a good UPS is required.
You can OBSERVE how the various components in your system are performing while performing strenuous tasks by bringing up the "task manager" window and watching the CPU load.... if all cores are PEGGED at near 100%, you are "CPU bound". As you are ALREADY overclocked, you can't do anything other than to TRANSCODE your footage to the free Cineform. Your ENABLED GPU can be observed....real time....using the free MSI Afterburner,( or, similar).  Certain operations are accelerated by the GPU with PPro....not ALL!!  Scaling and some effects will use use the "Mercury Acceleration" while rendering previews AND during export. In some cases, rendering previews,or, exporting can be sped up by TEN TIMES by Mercury Acceleration. Watch the "GPU Usage" on Afterburner to see if the GPU is indeed being used, and if you are "saturating" it to its capacity of 100% with accelerated effects.
Make sure your Windows is fully updated to the current time........make sure your NVidia 760 has the most recent driver and DON'T use the Quadro for now. Set your "Windows page file" to be STATIC on your "C" drive at 24GB. Disable "Hibernation" Set all drives NOT to allow "indexing". Do NOT allow any spinning HDD to be over 50% filled....performance WILL decrease.....make sure any HDD is defragged,( do NOT defrag an SSD ! ). Stop all unnecessary processes, esp. anti-virus programs, while editing. Find out how to best "tune" windows to speed it up at the PPBM 6 and 7 websites.
BE AWARE that the "run of the mill" SSDs use cheaper Sandforce controllers, and are less suited to handle highly compressed digital video files. Samsung PRO models and recent Crucial M550 series SSDs ONLY are recommended for video use. Both these non-Sandforce SSDs maintain high WRITE speeds,( over 400MB/sec), AND maintain their high speeds after reaching their "steady state" condition. Cheaper EVO series and non-Marvell controlled SSDs MAY lose their fast write speeds over time and SLOW YOU WAY DOWN !!!  Test your current SSDs by transferring large video files between them  and watching MB per second that appears under "details" in the pop up window during transfer. Make sure none are slow.....test them with HD Tune Pro as well.
Certain non-Adobe plug-ins and certain effects may NOT use all the CPU threads well,or, may not use the GPU.....forcing the CPU to do additional work. You will have to identify problem plug-ins,or, effects by switching them on and off to see if any cripple your system.
Your machine is POWERFUL.....go to PPBM7 website and read the "tweakers" page to learn more....then, register for free and TEST your machine with their video benchmark test for PPro. It should do WELL.....AND it will help identify if you have any "bottlenecks" which are impairing your system.
Good Luck !!!!!.....THEN, start using CC 2014.....like Patton said : "...all glory is FLEETING !!"......so is the lifespan of former PPro versions !!!!!!

  • Can i hook up speakers to my tv to get better ound quality?

I have a media player hooked up to my tv and would like better sound quality. Can i hook up speakers to my tv? I couldn't find any port.

I'm trying to hook a surround sound to my tv to play sound off an hdmi set up but it seems like I can't get the hdmi connection to spit out audio to the surround sound system even though I have aux cords going in the audio space to the receiver. Is it because I can't have an hdmi converted to surround sound without a digital converter?

  • Trying to get my videos off iphone and onto a dvd

So I have a few questions..if anyone can help its so much appreciated!
I am trying to get my iphoto videos onto a dvd with my macbook pro. Just bought IDVD. I made a dvd with a few clips just to make sure it worked and it worked good except....
    1. Do I really have to go to my external harddrive each time to import a video--I have 5 years worth so this takes to long. I tried to drag and drop from "Finder" but  it would not work for me. Any other ideas?
    2. When I put the dvd into my dvd player it worked although I had to go to the main menu for each video(some clips are very short) Is there a way before I complete the burn dvd process to set it where the videos run continously?
    3. The audio is a little low on the videos--anyway to make it louder(other than turning the tv up!?)
    thank you:)

  • What is the best codec to use to get optimum video quality?

I need to get my FCE2 project on to DVD, garnering the very best video quality/ clarity the software can muster. What do I use?

As you can read in a similar thread, the best way to my knowledge is simply to:
    - export to QuickTime Movie (not to QuickTime Conversion) from FCE HD: this will not change the quality of the movie (no compression involved)
    - use any authoring DVD program: I use iDVD and it is more than enough for me: this will encode the movie to MPEG2.
The results are very good at least for non professional use. Otherwise you have to have DVD Studio Pro.

  • Trying to get the video off my MD216

    Hello,
Total noob here, so apologies if I ask stupid questions.
I have a Canon MD216. A couple of weekends ago I went motorcycle racing and my wife used it to take some video of the event. We'd like to get the video off the camcorder and onto my OSX 10.7.5 Mac.
So I read the manual that said the drivers were in with MacOS since version 9 and I dutifully plugged in my firewire cable. Nothing. The Mac doesn't recognise that the camcorder is there at all.
Is there any way to get the video off my MD216?
    Any help much appreciated.
    Cheers

  • When I Burn to DVD I get poor video quality.

I need help with all the steps to ensure I'm doing this the right way when burning my videos to DVD. Here is a list of all my equipment and software:
    OS -Windows 8
Program - Adobe Premiere Elements 11
    System-
    Processor- Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4430 CPU @3.00GHz 3.00 GHz
    Installed memory (RAM)- 12.0 GB
System Type- 64-bit Operating Sytem, x64- based processor
    Video Card- GEFORCE GTX 760 2GB GDDR5
    Video Camera- Sony HDR-FX1
    Product Type Camcorder- 1080i
    Progressive scan- Yes
Camcorder Media Type- Mini DV (HDV)
    Digital Video Format- MPEG-2
    Image Recording Format- JPEG
I did a sample 10 minute video (with no editing) burned it to DVD and the quality is almost VHS looking when I watch it on a DVD. I've tried many different options and still get the same results. I tried  up-ing the DVD space by purchasing a Dual Layer Double Couche DVD+R but came out the same results. I put the settings ( when burning to DVD anywhere from NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD to Just NTSC_Dolby DVD. I have put the Quality to 'Fit Contents to available space' and Highest Quality with no difference to the burned DVD. I've gone to File/New/Project and changed the settings to NTSC-AVCHD-Full HD 1080i 30 and regular HDV 1080i 30 with no change. There are like 15 different options and really don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please HELP me before I go Crazy!
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chris

    Chris
    For your consideration...
    1. HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 11 Capture Window.
    a. Beforehand, set the project preset manually to NTSC HDV HDV 1080i30 via File Menu/New/Project. Before exiting the new project dialog, make sure you have a check mark after Force Selected Project Settings on This Project. Then go back to the Premiere Elements 11 Expert workspace and Add Media/HDV Camcorder.
    or
    b. Do your DVD Data capture, let the program set the project preset. Then verify the project preset via Edit Menu/Project Settings/General. Editing Mode should be HDV 1080i, Timebase should be 29.97 frames per second, and frame size should be 1440 x 1080. The pixel aspect ratio (grayed out) should be HD Anamorphic (1.333). Field Order should be shown as Upper Field First. If that is not the case, then start over and set the project preset yourself manually as described above in "1a".
Once you get the MPEG2.mpg on the Timeline, we are going to look at two different situations
    a. the DVD-VIDEO results with Right click the video on the Timeline, select Field Options, followed by Reverse Field Dominance.
    and
    b. the DVD-VIDEO results with Moving forward not doing anything with the Field Options.
Since your source is 16:9, the you want to stay with the DVD-VIDEO widescreen (NTSC_Widescreen Dolby DVD preset in the burn dialog...Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc)
If you select Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc you will be viewing DVD-VIDEO widescreen format on DVD disc. The frame size is 720 x 480 and is stretched for display after encoding. As I said no where near 1920 x 1080.  My recollection is that it is about 856 x 480. This can be played on the DVD player. Maybe some Blu-ray players if the players specifications provide for that.
If you select Publish+Share/Disc/AVCHD disc, you will be viewing AVCHD format on a DVD disc. You can set the preset for 1920 x 1080 and thus be viewing 1920 x 1080 on that DVD disc. BUT, AVCHD DVD cannot be played on a DVD player. It needs a Blu-ray player. And even all of Blu-ray players may not play it. It also can be played on the computer if you find a computer player to play it.
You mention your end results being pixelated. I am wondering if your pixelation is really an interlaced problem.
Your source is interlaced video with a field order = Upper Field First. The DVD-VIDEO standard calls for field order = Lower Field First. My suggestion above to look at Field Option Reverse Field Dominance goes to that point, reversing the field order. More on that later.
Let us see the results and then decide what next.
If you think you want to go Blu-ray, then we can talk about that too. Do you have any Blu-ray equipment now? For the time being, to get the flavor of the higher resolutions on disc, you could make the comparison of your DVD-VIDEO widescreen on DVD disc versus AVCHD on DVD disc.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    ATR
Add On...After all of the above, I forgot to mention. Do your DVD work with a check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space". The only time you want to leave "Fit Content to Available Space" uncheck is when and if you get a Data Rate error message where you have to lower the bitrate to be able to continue.

  • Better video quality on my old G3 than my new iMac?!?!

    How is this possible???
The visual quality of my new 17 inch 2 duo iMac 1.83 is horrendous. The screen detail and colors look like they're stuck in thousands instead of millions. Even though the resolution says otherwise (1440x900 millions).
As a test, I played the same exact divx video file on my old G3 pismo powerbook and on the new iMac using my VLC player.
And despite the iMacs supposedly superior 3D card, screen resolution, intel-processor, and every other improvement over the past 7 years since I bought my G3 powerbook, the video image on the iMac is flat-out HORRIBLE!
On the old powerbook, every shade and color of the video is there. Crystal clear. On the new iMac, it's as if nothing but the 3 primary colors are available.
Is this because of the intel processor's need to borrow ram for video? I have 512MBs installed. Do I have to install a ton more just to get the same visual quality of my G3 powerbook?
Am I crazy? Is my iMac defective? Or are the new intel-chips that lame when it comes to VRAM?
    Thanks in adavance.

I've discovered what the problem is with my new 17inch Duo 2 iMac...
DON'T EVER BUY A COMPUTER WITH A "GMA" GRAPHICS SETUP!
I'm not talking about 3D gaming, or iphoto, or even Youtube for goodness sakes. I am talking about the basic of basics! The desktop! The menu text! The color and contrast of the screen!
Just turning the iMac on without a single program running, and the machine looks like it's running on a thousand, even 256 colors, at best!
When I first saw how awful the display quality was, I was positive the iMac was defective. But after a couple hours of google research, I came to learn that this was what PC users have always referred to as "the curse of the shared VRAM". Something Apple users have never had to deal with... until now.
I've already ordered a 1GB chip to replace one of the two 256 chips that came with the iMac. But if I can't even get the basic screen quality comparable to a G3 powerbook that I bought nearly 7 years ago, I am going to raise the biggest stink with my beloved Apple Corp. until they take this **** thing back and exchange it for an Intel model with ACCEPTABLE display hardware.
BUYERS BE WARNED: DON'T BUY ANYTHING WITH THE WORDS "GMA 950" INVOLVED, NOT UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND STARING AT A SCREEN THAT'LL HURT YOUR EYES UNTIL YOU GO BLIND.

  • Help! Trying to get a Video File off a DVD so I can use it in Final Cut Pro

Okay. I'm trying to cut together a project and I need the video and audio off a short DVD. The DVD is under 5 minutes in length and is not copy right protected. For the life of me I cannot understand how to convert the files off the DVD to something I can work with. When I open the DVD I have 2 files: 1) AUDIO_TS and 2) VIDEO_TS. I would like to convert these to something FCP can understand (AVI, MPEG...anything). I have searched and searched the message boards and have found no useful information. I have a feeling it's something to do with Disk Utility but have found no clear instructions. Half the sites want you to buy their software. Surely there is some way to do this without buying additional software. Any help would be greatly apppreciated.

There are four ways that I know of:
    1) Play the DVD and have the player's analog outputs connected to your DV VCR or camcorder, which then acts as a convertor to bring it into FCP
    2) MPEG StreamClip - FREE, rips the video and audio from the VIDEO_TS folder
    3) DVDxDV - $20 or so, does the same thing as MPEG-Streamclip only a little easier, IMO
    4) Cinematize - $70, same thing, more options

  • How can I get better picture quality?

it seems like the picture quality could be better.

Why would expect the picture quality to be better?  The camera on iPad was designed with one thing in mind - Facetime.  The rear camera is 1.3 Megapixel.  The front camera is .7 megapixel.  Neither are even close to an inexpensive point and shoot camera and not even the same camera as is supplied with iPhone 4.  Sorry you're disappointed, but it's not camera quality.  Now, that said, in bright light, the rear facing camera can take an acceptable picture.  In lower light, it will be grainy as the specs would suggest.
