Trying to Get Netwrok Users Working in a Prelude to Portable Home User

Hi,
Currently the standalone server has 5 local client side users. I have created another user in WGM who has a network home folder. I can't log into him. The only other network user I have is the serveradmin, setup at the start of the process, which I can log onto with now problem.
The network user home folder is on a AFP automount share with guest access. I went to "home" on WGM and selected the AFP path (which is less than 83 characters) and successfully created the home folder. (I don't know if it is relevent but two other attemts at making home directories are still selectable in the home list, even though they no loger exist. In fact they still come up in the finder if I goto network/servers/myserver.company.co.uk/Volumes/).
My login screen is meant to show network users (having set the preference in WGM for my Mac), but only shows my local account, gueest and other. When I try to log on with the network user, it just shakes.
I did create a local account for this user, bound the account to the network account. The home folder automount didn't mount. When I manually mounted it the user's directory was there but with no access to the folders. I then noticed that if I logged into one local account the second local account I logged into would not show he server as a shared computer via AFP in the Finder (SMB showed up fine).
I suspect that I've set something up odd, but I am suspicious of the AFP automount. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Francis.

Thank you David & Jeff for responding.
To David - I had setup my new user as described by the documents and by you (i.e. Created user, made a "User" sharepoint with automount set as AFP "User Home Folders", used WGM to select this share for said user and created folder). The users homefolder can be seen under the share "Users". If I create a locally managed user on a client Mac and link it with this user, I can navigate to the folder under the "My Server" directory. What I wanted to do, and believe can do, is have this user as a network account, not a local one, with its home folder mapped automounting (which I thought meant that I could go to the relevant folders by using the standard icon's on the Finder - am I wrong? will I always need to go My Server>Users>username?).
To Jeff - this is the output:
Primary address = 192.168.0.2
Current HostName = myserver.mycompany.co.uk
DNS HostName = myserver.mycompany.co.uk
The names match. There is nothing to change.
I have set WGM for this computer to show network accounts on the login screen. It doesn't show the user I'm trying to setup.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts.

  • Trying to get BPEL users

    Hi All,
    I am trying to get BPEL users using SOA suite 10.1.3.1
    I am using the BPMAuthorizationService in order to invoke method search users passing the filter with * so that it will get all users:
    BPMAuthorizationService authSvc = wfSvcClient.getAuthorizationService(wfCtx.getIdentityContext());
    List list = authSvc.searchUsers(filter);
    where the filter is :
    ComplexSearchFilter filter = authSvc.getSearchFilterInstance(BPMUser.class, sSearchableAttributes[0], SearchFilter.OPERATOR_EQUAL, "*");
    filter.setLogicalOperator(ComplexSearchFilter.LOGICAL_OPERAND_OR);
    for (int i = 1; i < sSearchableAttributes.length; i++) {
    ComplexSearchFilter f = authSvc.getSearchFilterInstance(BPMUser.class, sSearchableAttributes, SearchFilter.OPERATOR_EQUAL, "*");
    filter.addFilterComponent(f);
    I developed a simple web application having a servlet containing this code, it works fine when deployed on the SOA home instance having the parent application as hw_services, but when this application is deployed having the default parent it doesn't create the authSvc variable correctly and returns null.
    Is their any configuration files, library jars I am missing here, do i need to upgrade to a new SOA version, please help.

    Hi,
    Please check if the following steps were done:
    1. Jar file was deployed to SOA_Oracle_Home\services\lib directory.
    2. Jar file was added to the library path. This is done by adding line <library path="SOA_Oracle_Home\bpel\system\services\lib\isplugin.jar"/> to the application.xml file in SOA_Oracle_Home\j2ee\home\config directory.

  • Trying to get PM to work with our upgrade process

    We are trying to get Personality migration working properly in our
    environment to migrate our users from 2000 to XP. We have been able to
    get the files to migrate properly, but are having issues with the
    application settings. We have installed PM from Zenworks 7 which is the
    Computer Associates version. When we are setting up the template in the
    application area, there does not seem to be anything there. For example,
    how do we set PM to gather the IE settings but not gather the proxy
    settings? Also, where would I find better documentation on this product?
    THanks in advance for any help.

  • Just trying to get the basics working...

    Hi,
    I have been trying to get just the basics working, and have spent almost all day, and now into the night, trying to get it to work....with no logical sucess.....
    All I am trying to do, using VB.net 2008 with Crystral Reports 2008, is to disply my report on a web page using the crystalreport viewer in Visual Studio.
    I created a report in CR2008, and during the process of creating the report I had to create a connection to the SQL Server 2005 database and set a parameter on my report to show the data for a single record from the database.
    The issue is that the connection string I use in CR2008 is NOT the connection string that is to be used in the browser, so the first task I have attempted to do is to set new log in details for the report. I just want to use a trusted connection.
    I have searched high and low on the internet, and taken a look at the samples provided on this site.
    My code, as it is at the moment for setting the connection for the report at run time is at the end of this email: ( I got this code from the samples on this site)
    The problem I have is if the integratedsecurity set to true(as I need it) then the myconnectioninfo.servername and database name are totally ignored. I have changed them to be just randon characters, which should result in the report not being able to connect, yet the report still works fine.
    No errors are generated at all, so its very confusing. I know the code is being executed via breakpoints and stepping through the code, but it would seem that it makes no difference.
    What am I doing wrong here.....
    Private Sub ConfigureCrystalReports()
            Dim reportPath As String = Server.MapPath("CrystalReport1.rpt")
            myCrystalReportViewer.ReportSource = reportPath
            Dim myConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo()
            SetDBLogonForReport(myConnectionInfo)
            myConnectionInfo.ServerName = "SQL1"
            myConnectionInfo.DatabaseName = "MPx
            ' myConnectionInfo.UserID = "limitedPermissionAccount"
            'myConnectionInfo.Password = "1234"
            myConnectionInfo.IntegratedSecurity = True
        End Sub
        Protected Sub Page_Init(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Init
            ConfigureCrystalReports()
        End Sub
        Private Sub SetDBLogonForReport(ByVal myConnectionInfo As ConnectionInfo)
            Dim myTableLogOnInfos As TableLogOnInfos = myCrystalReportViewer.LogOnInfo
            For Each myTableLogOnInfo As TableLogOnInfo In myTableLogOnInfos
                myTableLogOnInfo.ConnectionInfo = myConnectionInfo
            Next
        End Sub

    Hi,
    Couple of things:
    1) Please make sure that you are using CR2008 with SP0 at least. Dlls versions should be 12.0.2000.0 and File version 12.0.1100.0.
    2) Please make sure that the destination database can be accessed from that machine. You can create a UDL file or a new report hitting the target database to see if we can see data into it.
    3) Please make sure that we are not changing the schema of the report.
    4) Can you try this code mentioned below:
    ConnectionInfo crConnection = new ConnectionInfo();
                   crConnection.ServerName="Server";
                   crConnection.DatabaseName="DB";
                   crConnection.UserID="uid";
                   crConnection.Password="pwd";
                            crConnection.IntegratedSecurity=true;
                   crReport.Load(Server.MapPath("CrystalReport1.rpt"));
                   Tables crTables=crReport.Database.Tables;
                   foreach(CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.Table crTable in crTables)
                        TableLogOnInfo crTLOI = crTable.LogOnInfo;
                        crTLOI.ConnectionInfo=crConnection;
                        crTable.ApplyLogOnInfo(crTLOI);
                        crTable.Location=Database.Owner.Tablename
                   CrystalReportViewer1.ReportSource=crReport;
    Regards,
    AG.

  • Trying to get video chat working between mac and pc

    im trying to get video chat working between a mac and pc
    pc-running xp with aim 6.0
    will updating to aim 6.1 fix this ?
    we can text chat with no problem
    we can not audio or video chat
    any help would be great
    thanks santini

    Hi Z,
    Lets check the Port Forwarding at your end.
    Does this Zyxel have UPnP at all ?
    If so use that and disable the Port Forwarding.
    If not then these ports need to be forwarded.
    I will list with Protocols as some device need these.
    TCP 5190 for AIM Login and text chats (can be substituted for 443)
    TCP 5220, 5222 and 5223 for Jabber (the last is for OS X servers and GoogleTalk)
    TCP 5298 this is part of the Bonjour set up for iChat if you have other Macs
    UDP 5060 this is for the SIP negotiation that iChat needs
    UDP 5678 this is where the visible invites come and go out on.
    UDP 5190 for AIM file sending and Group chats
    UDP 16384-16403 This group of 20 ports is where any Audio or Video chat takes place.
    As the 443 port is below 1024 (the NAT threshold) you should not have to Forward this.

    Separate the UI from what you're trying to do. Once you have it working perfectly on a command line with simple text input and output, then worry about the applet.

    Just upgraded my Mac laptop to Lion to take advantage of iCloud, spent hours trying to get iCloud to work, not happy, tried everything still does not work, this is the first time i have been defeated.

    The initial upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion is 10.7.1.  Have you done the system update to 10.7.2 already?
    And since there isn't any general overview of what you've tried, see if anything at this site will help" http://help.apple.com/icloud/index.html#

    Don't bother trying to get Airplay to work even if you have all the latest updates etc..if your computer is a MacBook Pro 2008 or earlier..The Apple staff have decided they are too old and not worth supporting...

    AirPlay Mirroring requires a second-generation Apple TV or later, OS X 10.8 or better and is supported on the following Mac models: iMac (Mid 2011 or newer), Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer), MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer), and MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer). It also requires the computer to be using wi-fi.
    Patrick is either mistaken or describing basic airplay and not mirroring.

    Trying to get my Viera TX-P42S30B hooked up to my home network via Airport express with no luck.
    Have tried both wired (network cable) and wireless to no avail, can't find much info online, any help appreciated !
    Airport utility 5.5.3
    Airport Extreme 802.11n
    Airport Express 802.11g

    The problem is that the AirPort Express (AX) is creating a subnet.
    To prevent that, configure the AX to act as a bridge (so that it is NOT sharing a single IP address).

    # many!) most of which are not shown in this example
    # Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)

    Answered my own question, nmdb was the culprit.... dang, well saving this page for future ref:
    This did it:
    Starting the service
    Start/enable Samba via the smbd and nmbd at boot:
    systemctl enable smbd.service
    systemctl enable nmbd.service
    Run them right now as well (otherwise you'd have to reboot):
    systemctl start smbd.service
    systemctl start nmbd.service
    Swat is a nice web interface too

  • AE Crash trying to get the user 'language' registry key

    This is a strange crash I get just opening all sorts of different AE projects.
    <140735243008352> <ASL.ResourceUtils.GetLanguageIDFromRegistry> <0> Unable to obtain the User 'Language' registry key at: Software\Adobe\After Effects\10.5.1\ Defaulting to 'en_US'.
    It happens on a wide variety of projects just on opening them. Almost all are 720p. but some have footage, others are just PSD or other image files (PNG, JPG). Many of them have trapcode particular 2.1/form 2, but some don't.
    I have to find another project, open it, and then hope it doesn't cause a crash. If not, then I can go back and open the project that crashed upon opening and it works fine. It may open a few times without problems, and then upon opening it another time, it will crash with the same warning.
    I have a MacPro 2.66 GHz quad-core with 16GB RAM running 10.7.1 with an ATI Radeon HD 4870 card with 512MB of memory.
    Seems rather bizarre to crash on trying to get a language registry setting, so any ideas for correcting this would be most helpful.  Thanks.

    I'm having a similar issue with After Effects.  I have Adobe After Effects CS5.5 (v.10.5.1) and it keeps crashing when switching between AE and other programs.  Here's a video of what's happening with mine.
    I don't have any special plug-ins loaded except for what came with the program.  OpenGL rendering is turned on and have tried turning it off to see if it make the problem go away and it doesn't make a difference.
    Greatly appreciate any assistance I can get on this.

  • Trying to get X to work

    Hey,
    Ive got arch installed on my system and I'm trying to get X installed. I've gotten xorg and mesa with pacman. I have an ATI card, and want to use the proprietary drivers (not sure if that's a good idea or not...). I did pacman -S catalyst to install the driver. Now comes the part where I get confused...
    I think I should now create a xorg.conf file... So I run Xorg -configure. I get this error: Number of created screens does not match number of detected devices. So that's a problem right there, and I have no idea how to fix it... But, I checked if there was a xorg.cong file, and there was (it looked more like a template filled in with sample data). I tried copying that file to etc/X11/xorg.conf, and then tried running aticonfig -initial, but it complained about there being no template file in /etc/X11...
    Anyway, I just want to try and get this working.... Anyone know how to fix this?
    All help greatly appreciated.
    And if it matters, my video card is the radeon hd 4870x2.
    edit: upon review of the forum under this one, I see this may be in the wrong forum....

    Here's three ideas:
    1) Log into a console and do:
    cd ~/.kde4/share/config
    (if this directory doesn't exist, try
    cd ~/.kde4/share/config
    instead) This directory stores your user's KDE settings in various config files.  I don't know for sure which is the right one, but I think kdeglobals has it:
    Now open kdeglobals:
    nano kdeglobals
    and look at the various settings, and try changing stuff like "GUI effects level".  Of course, this might be a little bit dangerous, though I doubt you would end up with anything worse that Xorg locking up (which is, though , pretty annoying).  kwinrc is where compositing is enabled, it seems, you could try turning this off as well.
    2) Recover the default configuration files.  These files might be in /opt/kde/share/config or in /opt/kde4/share/config, I'm not sure which.  Try writing over your home ./kde4/share/config directory files with these files.  (You'll have to change owners and permissions on the files to make this work, of course)
    3) Create a new user and log into / startx into KDE with the new user.  That new user should have default settings, replace your .kde config files with the new user's config files, or, if you don't have anything important set up for your old user, just delete the old user account and use the new one you created.
    -hope this helps, it's pretty much all I can think of.
