Trying to get this "One" sound with Logic pro 8

Hi everyone i spent like 2 hours last night trying to get this sound with Logic Pro 8 soft synths trying to find a sound exactly like or close to this sound: http://home.comcast.net/~tommykry/Weezer%20-%20Troublemaker.mp3
The sound can be heard at 00:19 and through out the song, its like a low bass synth kind of sound that drifts down when its hit, like a portamento kind of thing. In live weezer videos the bass player is hitting a pad on a keyboard so i know its a key sound not a bass guitar slide. ive heard this sound in trance and techno songs as well. I have Sonar 8 and pro tools 8 as well and can look there if i have too, also have an Access viress Ti, But im trying to do this all in Logic. Like i said i played around for like more than 2 hours going through most of all the Logic synths, patch after patch trying to find something close i could tweak, so if anyone has more experience with The Soft synths in Logic Pro 8 and can steer me in the right direction i would be greatful.
Thanks
Tommy

He could just be triggering a bass slide sample...
It's some kind of bass sound that bends down, in a similar style to what a bass player might do. Whether it's a real bass or a synth is difficult to say (and probably doesn't matter a great deal), but in any case it's certainly compressed, and grunged up dirty with some amp sim or distortion...
Try that route...

  • Is it possible to bounce 5.1 Surround sound with Logic Pro 7.1?

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to create a song and bounce it in 5.1 Surround sound with Logic Pro 7.1.1 without extra software and hardware?
    Thanks in advance!

    This will let you make a DVD-Audio disc in Mac. It's free. It is command line only, and not for non-savy computer users.
    There are other commerical programs out there that make DVD-Audio discs. Search google for DVD-Audio OS X. These programs cost $100+

  • How to get a good vocal sound with Logic Pro 9

    I apologize for the ignorance of this question, but I am really looking to figure out a way to get my vocals to sound the way I would like them to sound, but I'm not really sure where to start.
    I started out using Garageband years ago, and really like the vocal setting of "Live Performance" when I went to real instrument/vocal.  It had a sound that I liked, and I didn't have to go to a lot work to achieve it.  When I went to Logic Pro 9 a while back I saw that they had the Garageband setting of Live Performance, but it really didn't sound the same, so I ended up starting songs in Garageband, and then importing them into Logic Pro.
    I would really like to move on and be able to set up vocals from scratch, and put in different inserts and play around with different sounds to experiment with for vocals.  Does anyone have any advice on learning inserts to use, and perhaps a tutorial video they might suggest that could help educate me on this?
    I don't even know if you should start with Compressor, then Chan EQ.  Perhaps someone might be able to steer me in the right direction.  Thanks so much.

    Klunde, you are missing out the most vital parts in your post. A vocal chain for recording is:
    You (your voice) - Microphone - Mic Pre - (perhaps hardware compressor, perhaps not) - (perhaps hardware eq, perhaps not) - then finally what you are recording into.
    The source is the single biggest influence on what you need to do in the mix regardless of what you are recording into. In our case here, it happens to be Logic. My own vocal chain changes depending on what i am aiming to achieve and this carries through to the mix. On one song I may use a blue face 1176 plugin if required and on another a CL1B etc. Both sound great but both sound different and there are a myriad of ways to use each one. The same goes for EQ's and reverbs. But what you need for all of this is a great source. Get this right and your mixes and decisions will be a lot easier and your desired results faster to achieve.
    So what is your source for your vocals?
    After this it is all down to taste. For example, a compressor going into an eq sounds different from an eq going into a compressor. Neither one is right or wrong. Experience and experimentation will tell you which you want to use for a particular song. Top mixer Chris Lord-Alge uses lots of compression on everything. Top mixer Bruce Swedien is notorious for using virtually none. Both consistently mix great records and both have spent a life time honing their art and skill set. Experiment but get your recording chain right which means choosing the right kit for your vocal and gain staging everything properly.

  • How to get this guitar sound

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2C0F7eFxhXM&t=1m23s
    There is a guitar in the background panned left just playing notes, not chords, and Im just curious if anyone has any idea how to best try and get this guitar sound in Logic? Probably a shot in the dark here but I cant seem to figure out how to get even close to it on my own. Not a logic pro user at all.

    You'll improve as an engineer by following a few steps. Don't start with a Logic issue, start with an engineering issue and then you'll get how best to solve it with what you have.
    Firstly, what makes this sound? How is it made and how do you think it was recorded? To me, this sounds like a humbucker pickup so I'd guess a les Paul or maybe an SG type of guitar going into maybe a Marshall or an Orange type of amp. This is not a DI'ed sound so you're going to have trouble here if you only have DI's.
    To me this sounds like a ribbon mic, pretty closely mice'd, maybe paired with a 57 or sen 906, something like that. And it's mainly just HIM playing. Great sound, good player. Never underestimate this.
    Now we have the internet so lets look him up and see if we can track down what he uses or used on this record.
    OK, looks like he used a custom Ibanez AX-120 with a Seymour Duncan JB Jnr pickup, so it is a high output humbucker and it also looks like he went through an Orange stack.
    If you can get hold of a guitar with a humbucker at the bridge, you'll be making the first positive steps. You don't mention what gear, if any, that you have only what software. Again, if you can get hold of a hi-gain amp and a couple of mics you're going to a lot closer in terms of gear, and hence sound.
    I see Guitar Rig has the 'Citrus' amp, so if you can't get your hands on a real amp, maybe start here. Don't be shy with the gain but again, try to restrain yourself a little.
    I think your main enemies here are that this record is very live and most of the sound is dialled in to the amp plus the choice of mics. So try to use a matching cab to the citrus amp and choose a ribbon mic in Guitar Rig, I'm sure there's at least one in there.
    Finally of course, it's the way he plays it too. Good luck with that.
    In summing up, always approach these things from an engineering point of view. What is it? What makes it what it is? This will take you a good way to where you want to be and make you a better engineer. After that, solving your issue with Logic will be simpler because you've gotten so much closer with your approach. This comes with time, and I mean years.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using Platinum Voicemaster Pro Vocal Channel Strip with Logic Pro & MBox 3

    Hiya,
    I was wondering if you can help me please.
    I have a small little home studio that I am currently building (just to record vocals mainly to instrumentals as I am singer/songwriter).
    I am currently using Logic Pro 9 and MBOX Mini 3 as my midi interface but my producer who is based overseas told me to get a preamp. Many musicians have suggested I purchase Platinum Voicemaster Pro Vocal Channel Strip. CAN ANY CONFIRM WHETHER THIS WILL WORK WITH LOGIC PRO 9 AND GIVE ANY ADVICE AS TO HOW IS THE BEST WAY TO USE IT WITH LOGIC PRO 9 AND MY MBOX MINI 3?
    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.
    RUSHELLA

    Thank you both for your input. I am back on the case again, this time with a fully functioning FCB1010. Right ou of the box the pedal does successfully send volume and pan with expression pedal a and b respectively.
    What I would next like to accomplish is to have exp. ped. b now control a plug-in parameter instead, the pedal range on the fuzz-wah plug-in of Logic Pro 7 for expample.
    When I use Automation Quick Access to edit the assignment of ped. b as Bryan suggested, Logic appears to be receiving the info from ped. b and creating the new assignment (as indicated in the Controller Assignments window), and yet the actual functionality doesn't change, that is, ped. b continues to control pan.
    Any suggestions?

  • I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. How do I get it to stop?

    I am recording with Logic Pro X, using my Yamaha XS8 keyboard as a Midi controller. I also have a Thunderbolt Display. Every time I play and release a note on the keyboard, the Thunderbolt Display speaker emits a doink sound. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop? My sound is running through the Saffire Pro 40 Interface (Focusrite) into external speakers with powered amps.
    Also, When I record I am hearing little pops in the system. I have checked all of my meters and they are not clipping. What is causing it and how do I get it to stop?

    Pancenter,
    Thanks for the response, but I do not have a midi interface. I am using a midi to usb connector cable, thus bypassing the need for a Midi interface.
    The Mac reads the USB cable as a midi device, but not the keyboard that I am trying to use as a controller. I have tried it with my korg sp 300 and with my Nord Electro 2.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks,

    Tristan...
    This is what you have, correct?
    http://www.alesis.com/usbmidicable
    This from Alesis..
    "The AudioLink Series USB cable receives and outputs MIDI signal thanks to its internal interface. The USB-MIDI Cable connects plug-and-play to your Mac or PC for an all-in-one USB-MIDI solution."
    Notice, -internal interface-. What you have is a simple USB MIDI Interface. Most MIDI interfaces are USB.
    My point is (was), MIDI OUT of the Korg goes to the connector marked MIDI IN on the Alesis, those new to MIDI often get this wrong.

    Please be aware that you are not communicating with Apple when you post in these forums. The only people who will reply to your posts are we your fellow users.
    Since you don't say what resources and methods you've been attempting to get this matter resolved, it's difficult to offer suggestions. But if your credit card has been used without your permission, your primary recourse should be to your credit card company to report the unauthorized charges and have them issue you a new credit card. If your card has been compromised such as to make unauthorized charges on the iTunes Store, it's highly probably that it can be used elsewhere.
    As to removing the card number from your iTunes Store account,  see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918
    You should be able to change or remove the card information there. If not, go here:
    iTunes Support
    and follow the instructions to report the issue to the iTunes Store, if you have not done so already. If you have, please post back with a summary of what they told you and perhaps someone can offer additional suggestions as to how to proceed.

  • What guitar distortion do you guys recommend if I want to get a Jimmy Eat World sound in Logic Pro?

    I am looking for a nice Alternative Rock sound comparable to the likes of Jimmy Eat World, saosin, etc... Looking for this sound in Logic pro and just need help. Any answers?

    You are better off getting a dedicated gaming box for gaming than using a Mac for heavy gaming.
    Unless you go with a top of the line iMac with just about all of the optional components, Macs do not make great heavy gaming machines. Plus, a gaming box is sooo much cheaper than a Mac for gaming.
    For using Logic, I would just go for the 21 inch screen iMac and get it with the optional  full 16 GBs of RAM and optional i7 CPU and, if you can afford all of the options, get this iMac with the optional Fusion drive, too!
    The combination SSD and hard drive in the fusion drive will help make up for the slower 5400 RPM drives that they are putting into only the 21 inch screen models.
    With this configuration, this iMac would last you, at least, 5 years.

  • I am trying to get this java program to work

    I need your help, I am trying to get this java program to work. The program is long and massive, but I got stuck in the last point where the program checks if there are a double quotes or a comma in a string.
    The string is an URL retrieved from XML files (this is already done).
    There are 4 conditions:
    Case 1
    =====
    The URL string is of invalid format and contains no commas (,) and no double quotes (").
    Make no changes to the URL string.
    Case 2
    =====
    The URL string is of invalid format and contains 1 or more double quotes (") but no commas.
    Make no changes to the URL string.
    Case 3
    =====
    The URL string is of invalid format and contains 1 or more commas (,) but no double quotes.
    Modify the URL string so that it starts and ends with a double quote (").
    Case 4
    =====
    The URL string is of invalid format and contains 1 or more double quotes (") and one or more commas (,).
    Modify the URL string so that every double quote (") becomes a double double quote (""), and so that it starts and ends with a double quote (").
    ======
    then write the modified URL string to the CSV file.
    ======
    Examples:
    1. hello ---> hello
    2. hello "big" world ---> hello "big" world
    3. hello, world ---> "hello, world"
    4. hello "big,big" world ---> "hello ""big,big"" world"

    You can do the searching with String.indexOf() and then you can make replacements (like " with "") with String.replaceAll().
    As for adding leading and trailing ", that could be done with simple concatenation.

  • How Do I Get This Guitar Sound

    How do I get this guitar sound? What effects is he using? Can I get it with Garage Bands sounds??

    I'm no guitar expert my any means, but I'm pretty sure that's some sort of reverb pedal, along with using a whammy bar or bending the strings. Just add the reverb pedal to your amp set up, or adjust the reverb setting on the amp.
