Trying to go from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8 -help!

Apple support sent me the disk to upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5.8. We tried it today since my son received a 4th generation itouch for christmas, and the computer is telling me that we need 10.5 to upgrade. Do I need to install that first and then 10.5.8? When I spoke to apple last week that is not what they said.

I have never seen a white system disc. It is not a retail disc; retail 10.5 discs were black.
If your iMac is running 10.4 now, and presumably shipped running 10.4, any "replacement disc" for your machine would have the 10.4 OS on it.
So I'm a bit stumped. The only thing I can think of is that the tech sent you a disc containing a software UPDATE, as opposed to the full upgrade package for 10.5. (Updates are usually just downloaded and applied.) You must use a retail version of 10.5 before you can do any updates to that system.
When you insert the disc and click to open it, what are the contents?
However, since your iMac has an intel processor, it would be a lot easier for you to buy a copy of Snow Leopard (10.6), for $29 anywhere that sells Mac software. You can install that right over 10.4. You may want to buy the more expensive SL Box Set, which comes with updated versions of all the iLife apps--iPhoto, iMovie, etc.

Reset the iPhone by pressing and holding the sleep/wake button and the home button for 20 seconds (maybe longer) until the Apple logo appears, ignore the red slider. Then turn back on. You won't lose any data doing the reset.

Yes, that is correct. The alternative is to quit all applications prior to logging out. Lion will then have a chance to remove the saved states.

You should still use Image Capture IMHO. If it was my gear, that's what I would do. No need to worry about software upgrades.

I am trying to update FROM Ovi Suite 2.1.1.1 to the newer version.
The download process NEVER ends.
2 screen shot are attached.
In the 2nd you clearly see some counter overrun (65518MB / 17MB).
I have already: uninstalled; download new version; installed.
Same scenario.
Any clue here?

lots of people seem to be havgin a problem sending email from iCloud webmail.
does your email address have uppercase characters in it?
if so, try creating an alias in lowercase (go to preferences in iCloud webmail and select 'accounts') and see if email sends okay from that

i am trying to capture from Sony HDV 1080i VTR FCP giving an error of not able to initialize. I am not able to capture the content in DV mode. i am using a Firewire 800 to 400 converter and a 6 pin firewire cable to connect to the SonyHDV VTR. Please suggest me how do i do this.

The 800-400 converter plugs have proved a problem for this. What version of the software are you using. It sounds like an older version of FCP, if so you should ask your question on the Final Cut Studio forum.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:

- Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.

I resolved the problem in Snow Leopard by logging out of my (admin) account and logging into my daughter's account on the same machine. She doesn't have admin privileges, so when I tried to install Firefox 4 in her account, I had to authenticate with my admin identity and PW. Installation went smoothly after that. My guess is that you could also simply create a new account on the same machine and install Firefox 4 from that. I have no idea why this works.

How do I setup my son's Iphone 3gs to hit my apple itunes store acct when he needs to buy music? Right now when he is trying to purchase from Itunes it is defaulting to his apple ID which is his gmail account. I've looked through settings but when I get to where I can change it to my apple id it prompts for a new password including a number. My apple id does not have a number in it. I must be in the wrong place. Help?

To change the Apple ID for purchases, go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID show, sign out, sign back in using the ID you want to use.
