Trying to group by album and list by track

I just added a soundtrack to my iTunes 8 and it's got multiple artists. When I originally DL'ed the album to my computer, the "artist" part of the tag was blank. I filled in the correct artists and then imported the album to iTunes. I click on the "Album" column at the top of the grid to place my library in album order. My songs are now grouped by album. Within those albums, the songs are all in track order except for this one soundtrack. It's songs are in alphabetical order by artist. How do I get them in order by track? Thanks.

Please read my post again. I suggested you *Set _Album Artist_ = Various Artists*, and by implication, that you leave Artist alone. If you do this & follow the other steps I proposed you will find each artist listed independently on the iPod.

Get Info reads and/or sets the tag of the file. As I said the Compilation is am iTunes only flag (thought is too is stored in the tag). iTunes stores certain properties that are generally volatile such as Play Count, Rating, Date Added in it's own internal database but, where the file type supports a tag, generic properties such as Album, Artist, Track No, etc. are stored in the file as well.

Is there a way in iTunes 11 to double click on an album and have the track list show up the way it used to in iTunes 10.7?

I'm talking about Album view where album covers are shown where you used to be able to double click and have it show up in a list view, but now in iTunes 11 there's just a window that pops up with the track list in front of other albums. Any way to get it back to the way it was in iTunes 10.7 where you double clicked on an album and it went into a list view?

Turning your Mac into a clock radio.
1. In iTunes create a playlist that contains just the radio station you want to wake up to.
2. Export the playlist (as .m3u works well). Get Info on your playlist file and look at the Open With entry to make sure it points to iTunes, VLC or some other app that will stream your station.
3. In iCal create an event entry at the time you want to wake up.
4. Right (or Control) click on your wakeup event and select Get Info.
5. For "alarm" select Open File.
6. Now under Open File there will be a place to add the file to open. It will probably be some default entry (like iCal). Click on it will allow you to select "other." Then use the file dialog to select your playlist file.
Your Mac will wake you up at the appointed time. You don't need to keep iCal running. If you want to put you Mac to sleep for the night then there is one more thing you need to do. Open System Preferences to Energy Saver and click on the Schedule button. Check Start up or wake and set the wake up time to slightly before your iCal alarm time.

Creating albums and moving individual tracks

I have quite a few compulation CDs that were created in the mid to late 80s and when I imported them into my iTunes library they were imported as individual tracks with no MP3tag info. Is it possible to create an album and move these individual tracks in that newly created album? I know that I can add the song title artist and album name to the tracks but I cannot fiqure out how to create an empty album to put them into. Please help.

Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
There's no such thing as an empty album in iTunes. Simply select some tracks that you want to link together, *Get Info*., give them a distinct Album title and set the *Album Artist*. For a compilation you should also set *Part of a compilation* to Yes on the Options tab.

I am trying to group instruments together and send that to a sub mix. I can group them and attach a bus and it says that they are at sub mix 1 but the volume slider for the sub mix does not affect the recorded tracks.

I am trying to create a sub mix of several vocal tracks. I have highlighted the tracks and have assigned them to bus 1 (sub mix 1) but the sub mix slider does alter the loudness or softness of the track. I can move it up and down but nothing happens.

Make sure that the input for the Sub Mix track says Bus 1.

Trying to burn an album and PE won't do it

It keeps going in a search mode looking for lost or misplaced files. What can I do to get around this problem?

You will either need to reconnect the missing files or delete them from the album.

Downloaded ALBUM and a few tracks will not complete play. it stops.

yup title says it all, i can't seem to play a few songs fully, it just stops. also i can't scroll past where the song stops. i deleted 1 song hoping i could redownload it. but nope i can't anymore.

thanks. i tried your instructions which i basically had done before without success. trying to watch carefully what was happening after i had deleted the entire cd from itunes and then synched, i noticed the tracks were NOT deleted from ipod! i then deleted them manually, tried to sync again and nothing happened (the just added tracks were not copied to ipod) so checked ipod's music tab in itunes. there the synch music box was not checked for some reason which i do not understand as i had previously been able to sync music successfully and the synching ipod bar at the top of itunes always processes. anyway, also marked the entire music library button, pressed sync and all music in ipod was updated and now the problem tracks are ok. all seems to be right at this point. thanks again.

We are fellow users here on these forums, you're not talking to iTunes Support. The questions should only be asked on the first purchase on a new computer or device, but other people have also posted recently about them being asked when it isn't. If you are being asked them then you will need to answer them before you can purchase.
If you can't remember their answers and you have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account then go to https://appleid.apple.com/ and click 'Manage your Apple ID' on the right-hand side of that page and log into your account. Then click on 'Password and Security' on the left-hand side of that page and on the right-hand side you should see an option to send security question reset info to your rescue email address.
If you don't have a rescue email address (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you won't get the reset option - you will need to contact iTunes Support or Apple to get them reset.
e.g. you can try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management , and then 'Forgotten Apple ID security questions'
or try ringing Apple in your country and ask to talk to the Accounts Security Team : http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

As far as I can see I have placed pictures on all the pages. I admit that on some pages I could have placed 3 or 4 pictures but I chose to use ony one or two. Could that be the problem?

The error seems pretty clear - you must have a photo in evey photo frame in order to place your order - so you must either change the layout (if you only want one photo on a page then use a layout with one photo) or put photos in the spots you have not filled

I am trying to export a file and/or an album from Elements 11 to a CD. Help!

I have been trying to export an album and or a file from Photoshop Elements 11 to a CD and I keep getting the message, "looking for missing file" I have no idea what missing file is being searched for.
Also, I have down loaded a video from my camera into Elements 11, but am unable to open it there. It asks for a download of apple quicktime, which I did, but still no go.

Please check Find > All Missing files and delete any missing files in your catalog. Alternatively, you may also choose to reconnect these if you know their location.
As of the video part, please install Quicktime Player if not already and then check.

ITunes' ordering of albums and/or artists

When iTunes copies a CD, if there's a song or two on it with more than one artist identified, I end up with two or more separate 'albums' in the iTunes music folder. When I'm lucky these 'albums' will be listed together in the library, but just as often one ends up under 'various artists' at the end of the library, and in the Music folder it's in another folder titled 'Compilations'. Is there any way of overcoming this sort of thing and actually getting iTunes to list artists and albums in something like the same fashion as the original CD?

I use MP3tag editor before I import. You can get it free on the web, but you should donate.
My iTunes library is big and slow so it is faster to clean up before you import and you don't risk losing tracks. This editor is also able to load the tags from the filename with a wizard and also has a track numbering wizard.
I use the Album Artist field for the main artist on an album and leave the track artist as is to retain that info. If the main artist has a duet on a track, you can show that in Artist without breaking up the album. It is really the album artist field that groups albums together in the grid, but it defaults to artist if you leave album artist blank.
If there are various artists without a main artist on an album, then I make the album artist = "Various Artists". If it is a soundtrack, then I use "Soundtrack". This way, when I look throught he folders in iTunes, there are less folders to look through and the two I mentioned are all grouped together.
I use the Album by Artist sort order in the library grid and all albums are pulled together in one piece. Rarely they are not and this I can almost always fixed by going to the Sorting Tab in Get Info and filling in those fields, too.

AppleScript to determine album ratings from song ratings and no. of tracks?

I am wondering if it would be possible to write an AppleScript to determine the album ratings for my albums in iTunes in the following way:
All of my music collection comes from CDs I have ripped. I rip the whole album and then delete tracks I don't like. The number of tracks in the original album is preserved in the Track # field, e.g. Track 1 of 10, etc. All multi disc albums have been given the same name, i.e. they are recognised as the same album with Disc Number preserved, i.e. Disc #1 of 2, etc.
The Album Rating would then be the sum of the rating of every song that is still in my iTunes Music Library divided by the total number of tracks in the original album (with multi disc albums counted as one album).
So, for example, if I had an one disc album which originally had 10 tracks, that I only kept two songs from, and one of these tracks had a rating of 5 and the other 3, the album rating would be as follows:
5+3/10 = 0.8
Ideally this value would then be written to the Album Rating tag in iTunes. I think the best iTunes can do is display half-star ratings, but I wonder if it will still sort the Albums by Album Rating based on the actual value of the above calculation, i.e. an album with Rating 4.52 would be sorted higher than an album with rating 4.48, but both would show in iTunes as having 4 and a half stars?
The next best option would be for the script to generate a text file of the Album Ratings sorted by rating with the highest first (in fact it would be good to have this in addition to the values being written to the Album Rating tags)
The difference between this script and the built in method used in iTunes is that iTunes doesn't account for deleted tracks, so in the above example the Album would be rated 4, even though 8 tracks had been deleted.
I hope this is clear and would be grateful for any help in getting this script together.

Here's an improved version of the script that should fulfill your needs (the modifications are in blue). The script now sorts the Album Ratings (via Numbers.app) and save them to a text file on the desktop, with no rating greater than 80. As previously, you must choose at least one track.
