Trying to identify a MSI motherboard

A friend gave me his PC & I am gonna format its hard drive and reload XP from scratch on it. Also, they want me to max out its RAM. I originally thought it was a DELL 3000 desktop & could hold 2GB of RAM, but after talking to him, I learned that the motherboard had been replaced a while back. He told me his original DELL computer got zapped by a storm so he had to have the motherboard replaced. Its now apparently an MSI motherboard since I can see a big "MSI" printed on it after I open the case.
Since I'm not sure exactly what motherboard is in there, what is the best way to identify it? I've seen the free scanner on MSI's website that helps identify it and be able to tell you what drivers it needs (something I will need to use as well), but is there maybe a free MSI download that can tell me what I have and identify the motherboard part number. Therefore, I can then determine how much memory it can hold and what I need to buy. Or maybe there is something else I should simply look for physically printed on the motherboard?

OK, got it and found the driver page. Its a PM8M-V motherboard and here is the driver page for it.

However, I am now having an issue with one of the drivers. 32bit XP & here is what I needed & have successfully installed so far:
- chipset driver (very first thing to install)
- audio driver
Also downloaded & installed XP Service Pack 3. Now, I tried installing the video driver listed on this support page (for its integrated video). I tried running the 'setup' file, but that didn't work. It keeps giving me a message saying that it was unable to load the software and to go to the Windows directory log for details. It then aborts the installation. What is this? I tried to install the video driver manually, but that didn't work either.
I even tried running the live update 5 software in automatic mode, but that apparently didn't work either & I am still getting a yellow question mark for video in the device manager. Any idea what is going on here and how to install this motherboard's video driver properly?

The BIOS page for that board http://www.msi.com/support/mb/P965_Neo.html#down-bios shows that there is no such BIOS version and none of the dates coincide either. The first BIOS version for that board precedes your date, so if it is the chip model number that you provided, then MSI must have changed the BIOS chips about 2 months after the board was released
Can you get into the BIOS on boot up to check the exact version of the flashed BIOS.

Access to SATA RAID-5 array without an MSI motherboard?

I have (had) an MSI K8N Diamoond Plus motherboard, and used it to create a bootable SATA RAID-5 array of three 300Gb Western Digital disks. Two years later, the motherboard developed a serious problem with the memory access, and now it won't POST beyond the memory initialization. So it's fried. I've tried multiple memory modules in multiple configs, and nothing helps.
OK, no problem, new motherboard and I'm good to go. Only this isn't an MSI motherboard, and it's an Intel chipset. So, the RAID array isn't recognized.
Are there any software tools that can reconstruct the RAID array when running on a non-nvidia chipset motherboard? Is there any other solution besides buy a new MSI motherboard?
And, if I have to get a new MSI motherboard to solve this, what's the cheapest currently available motherboard that would be compatible with the RAID established on the original K8N Diamond Plus?

You were using Nvidia RAID, with Silicon can't do RAID5.

Missing back of PC cover for MSI motherboard

Hello I have looked high and low, I purchased an MSI motherboard about a year ago, it shipped without the silver metal cutout which covers the back of the motherboard (the connectors) and keeps out dust and stray RF. I have been having a fair amount of crashes lately and it's because this is missing and stray radio waves are interfering and crashing my computer.
The system board I have is: MSI 880GM-E41 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
Where can I purchase a replacement cover for this system board please?? Surely someone can help.

MSI motherboard model number location?

Hi...........I have a simple question. I bought, from a private party, a recently built computer with a Pentium 4 2.53 GHZ processsor, running Windows XP Pro. It has an MSI motherboard in it. The builder doesn't know the exact model number of the mobo.
The builder forgot to install a driver for the SM Bus Controller. I need to download the driver for it, but before I can do that, I need the mobo model number. I've taken the side cover off and have looked for a model number. I don't see anything that looks like a model number.
In addition to the SM Bus Controller driver, I also want to download the instruction manual and anything else concerning this board.
Almost in the very middle of the board is "MSI" in large white letters. This is right above the agp slot for the video card. I don't see any numbers close to it that would be what I'm looking for.
It's not the most recent socket. Would this possibly be socket 478? I'm just not sure. There is a chip labeled MSI Core Cell.
There is also a small white upc code with a number on it, which I assume could be the serial number. It's a 10 digit number with a letter for the second digit. I wonder if there is somewhere in the MSI site that cross references serial numbers with model numbers?
I check Windows system information to see what it would tell me.
This is what it showed:

Thanks to all that replied to my post. I had a sudden realization that I could Google the number MS 6728, which is a MSI part number, not the model number. Unfortunately, I had this epiphany after I posted. I was able to find a picture of the board. It's actually a 865 PE Neo 2 Platinum.

I have MSI motherboard and MSI GE2Ti 64MB and can\'t get over 30 fps

I am addicted to playing CS, I used to have a PIII 866 motherboard that crashed. I bought a MSI motherboard with a Celeron 1.7 and I have a MSI Ge2Ti 64MB DDR video card. I used to have over 70 fps when playing in the old days, however with this new motherboard I cant get over 30 fps. I thought that my video card was the culprit and I bought a new ATI Radeon 9000 with 128 MB DDR. After installing it, I still have less than 30 fps ?( ;(
Before I purchased the Radeon, I tried tweaking the videocard with the rivatuner, but I had no great success.
The motherboard has a built-in video, can it be conflicting with the AGP card?
My motherboard is a MS-6524 and my video card is a MSI Ge2-Ti model 8855

Running a P4 (or celeron4) with SDR memory results in very poor preformance, it's basicly ment for office/internet use.
That I would expect is a big part of the slowness, in fact a celeron 1.7 with SDR could very well be slower than the PIII 866 in many aspects.
Remember the P4 1.5 wuth RDRAM using the i850 chipset was barely any faster than the PIII 1.0GHz at the time it was released!
It might be a little late now, but if you need to keep your RAM the only CPUs today that could get something out of SDR are the AthlonXP's and PIII/Celeron socket370.
And AthlonXP 1800+ costs about the same as the celeron 1700 you have and a basic board with SiS735 or VIA KT133A chipset will cost about the same.

MSI Motherboard Problems

I have purchased MSI Motherboard from Past 4 Months it is showing following Factors
1) Computer gets Corrupted frequently -- have tried formatting complete System
2) PC freezes on startup with Windows Loading
3) Sometimes during working Display shows up Blurred & Dottled display ( as in case of Low reception in TV Cables )
4) System hangs & on Restrat freezes -- have tried replacing RAM

My K7N2 MSI Motherboard

Dear Fellow Users of MSI Products:
THE FOLLOWING HAS OCCURED WITH MY NEW K7N2 MSI MOTHERBOARD:
My Operating system is up and functioning, I have access to the internet on the K7N2 Motherboard, and my USB and onboard hardware is currently working, I have an onboard soundcard and onboard net gear that seem to be functioning ok because I am currently on the internet hearing sound and typing this message to you on the troubled system and I haven't noticed any IRQ conflicts... but the following I am still struggling with getting up to speed, and somewhere along the line, I believe I am having a IRQ conflict possibly.
I have formated the hardrive and installed the ME Operating
system. I no longer have any problems with my BIOS to my
knowledge.
MOST NOTICABLE PROBLEMS:
When I turn my computer on from a cold boot the computer
will do a memory check and display the full AMD 2200+
(along with the other BIOS startup proceedures) upon BIOS
loadup. It will then cycle through Windows startup and
launch Windows ME. However when I restart the computer
using Windows restart option instead of doing a regular
system shutdown, upon restart this is what happens.
It will load through the Windows startup, however right
before the initial launch of windows I will hear a beep
sound, and then nothing happens, it locks up and the 4
green lights at the back on the motherboard pop-up. I then
restart the computer and it will automatically go into
safe mode after 30 seconds. It then will launch Windows
in safe mode. I then restart computer from a cold boot and
then Windows goes back to functioning normally.
Although my graphics card is running at 1024-768 by 32-
bit and seems to function properly, I am still having
various driver issues that I can't quite pinpoint at the
moment.
Although I have installed the latest Drivers for my video
card and have installed DirectX's latest version on my
system, when trying to do a DirectX Diagnostic, it tells me
under the "Video Tab" this:
"DirectX 3D test result: Failure at step 7 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
DirectX 3D test result: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)
DirectX 3D test result: Failure at step 9 (Creating 3D device): HRESULT = 0x8876086c (error code)"
However, everything else in DirectX Diagnostic test seems to be functioning properly.
Also another error accures after installing new software, just before restart this error box pops-up:

"Winmgmt has caused an illegal operation error and will be shut down"
(however the computer still restarts anyway although that message popped-up)
I currently have ran out of ideas on what to try to
remidy these errors. If anyone has any suggestions.

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.
Thus, if you get it to work restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup

If you're using the existing case, then any MSI m-ATX Socket AM3 board will fit, and you should be able to use your existing CPU and RAM. But be warned, these Medion PCs usually come with junk PSUs, so you may want to replace that also.
Better to just buy a new case, then you can use any size board and PSU you like.

Popup message - Windows Installer tries to Install SolutionCenter.msi, but unable to find it.

The message is from Windows Installer and says Please wait while the windows installer tries to install SolutionCenter.msi.
But then it says it cannot find the file. I cannot get rid of the message and don't know what to do. It is hard to even get out of the popup message.

MSI Motherboard Warranty??

Hi just wondering if there was a warranty on MSI Motherboards in Canada and how long is it good for?
I bought a K9AG-Neo Digital 2 I think it was called early 2008 and it seemed to have a total break down the other day.
I went looking for the store I bought it at and they appeared to be closed now. Will I get any warranty on this?
I'd like to know ASAP. I haven't had any response from the Support Request and I don't see any number to call either.
So..if I need something new I want to get it as soon as possible.

Hey there.....not sure where someone got the idea I had a X2 4200+ in my board, unless you were looking at my original registration info. I used to have that cpu about 7 months ago before I upgraded. I never overclock cpu's or anything as I don't know enough about that subject to risk anything. I do a lot of video rendering with After Effects CS3 and I wanted to upgrade to more RAM someday soon and see what kind of positive effect multiprocessing would have on it with the quad core. As a matter of fact, I was doing a video rendering when I came back in the room to find this "horrible accident scene."
As for the store, it was in Kelowna, BC (Canada) on Highway 33. I did a search on the internet today and I don't see the same store there anymore. It wasn't a huge store, just a guy and his crew repair and upgrading and selling a few computers. I should be able to track down the name of the company at least after calling nearby people. I'm in a different city though 130 kms away (Osoyoos, BC) and it's really tiny!!
What other info should I give? The powersupply and case were new from the same guy. He sold them to me together. He had a great respect for MSI saying they had the best policies and he couldn't stand Asus.

MSI motherboard and FX processor

Hello all.
I have plans to buy the MSI 760GMA-P34 (FX) to build a secondary rig with an AMD FX-8350. It would be at stock speeds, stock cooler, not overclocking.
The question that molests me is: Would I get enough stability with that motherboard? The website says the CPU is compatible, but, I have doubts about the thermal capacity of these 760G motherboards. Because my FX-6300 seems to be running on the edge with a similar motherboard (other model, worse, less TDP limit). The cause of such borderline might be the lack of heatsink in the VRMs, that being heated up, might cause throttling on the processor.
If I go with this motherboard, I want to be sure I will have a stable and normal experience. I will not overclock or do anything expensive with that rig, only to use it for video encoding and other expensive tasks while stock. And unfortunately I am not able to spend more money that the cost of the said MSI motherboard.
As always, any tip or opinion will help me alot. Thanks.

The following is benchmark test. ASSSD Benchmark and CrystalDiskMark software cannot push SSD performance to extreme level, so we use TxBench to test the performance of 32GB data transmission. TxBench in Win8.1 with native driver, sequential read is up to 1375MB/s and write is 1072MB/s. In 4K single QD test, there is not big difference between SATA3.0 and PCIe. In other side, the performance of 4K QD32 test, SATA3.0 is 50% better than PCIe.
After installing NVMe driver, the performance of sequential R/W is dramatically improvement. Especially in read function, the performance is directly double to 2800MB/s, achieving the highest level we never saw. It’s the real performance of this SSD.
As I mentioned before, native PCIe controller could decrease the latency of SDD. The R/W performance increase after CPU overclock to 4G as well.

I just introduce the overview of VVMe technology and the Intel P7300 basic performance. We found out that the advantages of NVMe comparing to the AHCI, it will be more and more common in the future.
MSI 9 series motherboards supported NVMe device. Although NVMe is not popular, MSI keep the scalability of the motherboards. In the next article, we will test P3700 under business environment to see the performance and advantage.
