Trying to import 24 fps audio
I edited my project in 24 fps (not 23.98). Then I exported a 24 fps quicktime file for my sound editor and he created a mix using protools. When I import his mix (48 kHz, 24 bit wav) the computer seems to think this is a 23.98 file. When I stretch the audio it synchs fine.
Here's where it gets strange for me. If I export my stretched video and re-import it into the same 24 fps sequence I'm back where I started. No matter what I try, I can't seem to export and re-import 24 fps audio without losing synch.
The finished mix needs to go to a post house for 16mm optical sound, but I have no way of telling if the mix is in synch or even whether the mix is timed to 24 fps (which I suspect) or 23.98.
Any information is appreciated, thanks.
Thanks for jumping in.
I tried to avoid describing the workflow - it kind of defies description at this point. This project originated in 16mm 15 years ago. Most of the picture editing was done in 16mm on a flatbed Steenbeck editing table. Then for reasons that are complex, I switched to FCP and finished my edit that way. To complicate matters, it's a mixed media project bringing together 16mm, super 8 and some video. The workflow is unconventional to say the least, which is why is a shortage of people I can ask about this issue.
However, regardless of workflow, the issue I'm experiencing (specifically as it related to working with FCP) is the following:
When I export audio from a 24 fps timeline and re-import the aiff file back into the same timeline, it is no longer in synch. I've never had this problem working in 29.97 or 23.98, so I'm baffled. I've now tried this with other source footage unrelated to my project and I get the very same result. There must be something unique about working in 24 fps that I don't know about and can find no reference to in the manual.
I invite anyone to try this: Create a sequence (I've tried two codecs: photo-jpeg and DVCPRO 50), set the editing timebase to 24, plop in 30 minutes of video footage, export the audio, re-import the audio and place it back in the sequence. When I perform this operation on my machine I lose synch.
My sequence settings: 720 * 480, DVCPRO50, 48 kHz audio, 24 bit (the editing timebase, of course, is set to 24)
Thanks for your help.

I'm trying to import an audio CD into iTunes, but I keep getting a message saying, "Error occurred while converting the file . . . You do not have the privilege to make changes." I've tried selecting all the different encoders, WAV, MP3 and AAC, and still nothing works. I would appreciate the help.
Try HT203242: iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install.

Here is the How to import in itunes 11. Including the Join tracks option.

Also if you have imported them then this article gives a good understanding of how to tag these songs
http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/audiobooks.asp
the other option would be to use an App like Audiobook Builder to stitch the tracks together in upto 12 hour long sections and sends to itunes automatically. It is available in the App Store. There are others available, Audiobook binder is free -
Assistance needed in trying to import MP3 audio file into Slide Show
I get the following message when trying to import an MP3 audio file into a slideshow in Organizer 9 "The selected file can not be played because your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor(codec) installed. I am pulling the file from my Itunes folder and I have not had problems with any other file I have downloaded from itunes and changed to an MP3 format. Does anyone have any ideas? I really want to use this song in a slideshow for my parents 50th Anniversary.
Best GUESS is that DRM is getting in the way of the file being used outside of iTunes (DRM = Digital Rights Mgmt = Copy Protection)

Trying to import .mov audio file and burn as MP3
Can someone point me to a thread, or be kind enough to post answer, about how I might successfully import a .mov audio file and wind up burning it as an MP3. I've been dinking around with this for too long. I can import it and end up with it in the format: MPEG-1, Layer 3. But when I burn it to CD and play it on a Sony boom box, I hear nothing. I tried playing it in another iMac and hear nothing.
Thanks.I was hoping someone in this forum could point me in the right direction to a web site that is designed specifically for Garage Band users that need sound effects.
Check out:

These both are GarageBand-oriented.

How to import analog audio into garage band
I have an iMac with 2.5 GHz Intel Core 5i 8 GB memory OSX 10.7.5 and I am trying to import analog audio from a reel to reel tape deck so I can edit it and burn to a CD. I have a elgato video capture device with RCA female plugs on one side and USB on the other. (I've used this device to import analog video and audio to iMovie and Adobe Premiere Elements). I am told that I could import analog audio to Garage Band to edit and burn , however when I launch Garage Band I am not sure what part of the program I should be selecting and how to go about importing the analog audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Importing garageband audio to iMovie
Hello. I'm trying to import an audio clip recorded from garageband and when i try to, it says "Error: quicktime couldn't parse it -43." i just bought my ibook and it has all the latest software updates and all that so I'm not sure what's going on. Anyone encounter this problem before? Thanks!
iBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4)Not sure whether you have tried the following. I have achieved this by exporting from Garageband to iTunes, which converts the track to a Mp3. Then when you select Audio clips in iMovie it should show your iTunes library, then you can drag from there to the timeline. Hope this helps.

I shot video on a Panasonic P2 and I'm trying to import the MXF files to Final Cut Pro but when I try to import, the only thing that imports is a blurry image of each clip. There's no audio and no video...how can I import MXF files into Final Cut Pro?
at the end, you say "import preferences", which program are you describing?
So im safer using footage that is remotely being pulled from iphoto...
vs
using footage that is imported into FCP from imovie?
Is there anything i can do in fcp to make this footage more reliable or safer or more stable as i pull remotely from iphoto?
All the footage, and all the libraries to all programs, or on a new pegasus 12tb raid 5 setup fyi. -
Hi guys!
I hope you can help us. My IT guy and I have been working on this for about a week now. Whenever I imported the .mxf video and audio files in CS3 for Windows, I had no issues. We upgraded to CS4 about a week or so ago, and since then, I can't get Premiere Pro to work properly. When I import the .mxf files now, the video files will show up in the media browser and will import. But with no audio. If I attempt to bring the two in separately, the video will import fine, but when I import the audio files, the system shuts down. I don't have the error message in front me at the moment. I'll try to add that to the thread tomorrow.
We've looked at the files in the P2 viewer, and they have audio there. They also have audio under my IT guy's server profile, and they import fine. We've checked sound cards, playback settings, tried converters, etc. Even the .avi files I bring in don't have audio anymore. They do when viewed in a different player but not in PPro.
Could it have something to do with the fact that my software is being pulled from the server and his is installed directly to his hard drive?
I've got to get this solved pretty quickly. My work is starting to pile up, and the busy season is here! (Happy Holidays, everyone!)Here is the error message I keep getting: [..\..\Src\FileCache\FileCache.cpp-910]
I tried the .wav file; still no audio. And I do have version 4.2.1. I'll see if I can convince them of the network issue. Not sure they'll go for that, but it's about the only thing we have yet to try.
Thanks for your responses! -
'Audio to Video' problem when trying to import from non-controllable device
Hello,
I am trying to import media from a VHS into FCP, using a 'Dazzle', (DAC from Data Video). In my Capture Settings, under Device Control, I selected 'Non-controllable device', and under the Capture/Input setting, I chose the default, 'DV STSC 48 khz', then did 'Capture Now'. It seemed to work fine, until about half-way through the project, I noticed that the sound did not match up to the people speaking/singing on the video. Should I change the Capture/Input setting to something else? Or, is there another setting I need to make, so that audio/video will match up? Also, should I maybe try a Batch Capture, instead of Capture Now? I just thought of that when writing this - any help would be most appreciated, thank you!
KristinaOoooo.... Hate to say... Dazzle just has bad memories for me. Hollywood Bridge... made by Dazzle...
Nothing but problems. Not sure if yours is the same.
Anyway to use your camera as a passthru for the VCR instead?
Still -- no guarantees sync will line up. For that you need to capture in 15 minute or less segments. Hard to do with VHS that will run for 2 hours... but it's your best bet. Join them up in post if you have to.

I am trying to import video and the audio doesn't upload with the video. Help.
I upgraded to iMovie 11 because the previous version wouldn't read the type of video I was importing (VOB). The video imports but not the audio, what do I do?What are you capturing from? You may not hear the auido as it's captured but it will be there. After it's captured can you see the audio waveforms? Do the audio meters move when you play the clip? If so then go to "View" then "Audio Playback" and set it to 'Built-in Output" if you're monitoring audio through the computer.

Premiere 7.2.2 not importing all audio channels of mpeg-ts
I'm trying to work on an MPEG-TS, but Premiere is only importing the audio related to the first PID. There are 6 PIDs in this file, each with two channels of audio, for 12 channels total. But Premiere only sees the first two. If I open the file up in Telestream Switch I see all 12 channels. MediaInfo output is below, any thoughts? Is this a bug in Premiere? An import setting I've missed?

- Log the clip then do your capture of the video and Ch 1+2
- In the Log and Capture window select the Clip Settings Tab
Set Capture to AUDIO ONLY and the AUDIO FORMAT to Ch 3 + Ch 4
- Right clic on the clip in the Browser and Select 'Batch Capture'.
- in the Batch Capture dialog box, uncheck 'Use Logged Clip Settings'
click ok and away you go.
in the fwiw catagory, on some cameras, in order to hold 4 channels of audio it will be recorded in 32k/12bit format. It will not be happy in FCP. You may want to up rez it to 48k/16bit in Quicktime before using it. But you probably knew that.
good luck.
