Trying to import contacts from added email account?

I Have added a Gmail email account in Settings, which a colleague has been using to communicate with our choir members. I have ensured Contacts is on ( showing green). When I go into my contacts, I cannot see any of the new contacts, although I can address an email, if I start to type in a name in the address field, it presents option of email address. So, it seems the contacts are there somewhere just not showing. I need to set up groups within these contacts, so obviously need to see them in order to do this. I do select "Show All contacts" when in my Contacts. I have also tried un ticking other emails in Contacts, and just leaving this email address contacts ticked, but it says there are no contacts! Can anyone help please.

Assuming you have an iOS device, do the following:
Add your Google contacts to your iOS device as explained here: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/2753077.
If you are syncing contacts with iCloud on your iOS device, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (they will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup. Use this on your iOS device to backup the Google contacts as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself. Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), set this to iCloud.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your Gmail account and turn Contacts to off.
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the Google contacts back to your device and to iCloud. You can delete the Gmail account now if you don't want to use it.

Other than that it is a question on making sure every Single Buddy has more than just their Screen name in the IChat Address Card so it is added to the Address Book and dragging them back from there

how do i import contacts from my hotmail account? Every time i try, there's a message that keeps popping up saying that it can't do because the contacts aren't separated by commas...????? Please help, i'm a recent "switcher"

The short answer, for now, is you don't. It's increasingly clear that Microsoft does not want to extend this privilege to users of free HotMail accounts, not does it want to offer POP3 access to anyone other than paying HotMail Plus users at this point, and for the foreseeable future. And, IMAP: that's out of the question, apparently.
While the plugin idea is a nice one, the referenced open-source HTTPMail plug in is broken by Mac OS X 10.5, and nothing has been heard to date from the developer about an update to support Mail in Leopard.

If you can't get the exported .csv file to work you might consider using Migration Assistant: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2518, particular if you need to move more than just your contacts. There is some granularity in the options on what to transfer but I'm not sure if you can choose to just your migrate contacts.

IIf you previously had items backing up to the iCloud, changing to the new phone will take a while depending on how much data and apps your restoring to the new phone. If your like me with 1,000's of pics and videos, it's gonna take a while. Make sure your phone I plugged in, your on wifi and let it do its things. If you see all your apps updating, then it's doing something. If this is not your issue, then it could be the phone froze up. I have the 6 plus and recently switched from the 5, and it took a long time to restore from the cloud. Restoring from iTunes is quicker I guess, but I didn't have that option at the time and was dying to use the new phone I eaitrd 2 weeks for. Anyways, good luck and I hope I answered something for you.

it is used to send invitations to diffrent users. A lot of
sites begin to use that, it is completely viral and I found scripts
for .net, c++, php, vb, .. but not for ColdFusion.
It is comletely actaul to have this fucntion available since
concurrent use it and I don't find any way to do it in Coldfusion
except by using cfx_http5 but is does not use the API of the emails
providers and is not easy to support( if the email change his
design, the cfx_http5 function has to be corrected each time).
I think it could help a lot of users to have this function
available for Cold Fusion.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it isn't possible, I was
just mentioning that you might want to consider another option,
giving the user a bit more control.
I haven't seen any CF based solutions for what you are
describing, but If you've found scripts in c++, consider turning
that into cfx_tag. If you can find a Java based solution, that
might be easier to integrate by installing the class/jar file and
using cfobject.
Screen scraping is probably the only option unless the target
service provides an easily consumable source such as XML or through
an API. In the case of a Yahoo Premium account, you can export
contact information, such as to a CSV. You may also have to develop
the authentication mechanism which might require the use of an API
key along with some encryption mechanism (usually MD5) to encode
the api key, userid, and password to obtain an authentication
token.
As far as "MySpace is doing it", there might be some behind
the scenes agreements that have been worked out both from a
technical as well as a legal aspect. I would suggest that you
contact each service that you are planning on supporting with this
feature directly. The response you get back should give you a
pretty clear indication on what is allowed, assuming you can get
past the "Customer Support" screeners.
You mentioned that what you are attempting is temporary in
nature, but can the user be 100% convinced that it is temporary?
Unless the user has 100% access to your system to verify that the
information hasn't been kept in a log or database, they can't be
sure. Case in point, Disney is a well respected company but
recently one of their employees was caught in an Identity Theft

A user's permission doesn't mean that you haven't violated
the services "TOS" . While there are coding applications in other
langages that can perform email harvesting, that doesn't
necessarily mean that they are legal just because they exist.

Import Contacts from older machine?

I have a new Macbook Pro, trying to import contacts from an old machine that has "Address Book". I am networked together, I can navigate to my old machine in "Contacts" in my new laptop, but can't find a way to do it.

On the old machine, select the contacts you want to keep, then choose
File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
from the menu bar. Transfer the exported contacts to the new machine and import them by double-clicking the file.

Always works: download them to your hard drive and then either drag them to the iPhoto Window or use the File -> Add to Library command.
Other than that, without knowing your email set up, it's hard to suggest any more.

Importing contacts from pst into iCloud using Outlook 2010

I am trying to import contacts from a PST file into iCloud by importing it with Outlook 2010's standard import tool. I have set up iCloud on my desktop and have a node in my Outlook 2010 Contacts menu for iCloud. There are about 2000 contacts in the PST, but the import completes with only 511 contacts every time. The pop-up message at the end says "some items cannot be copied. they were either moved or deleted, or access was denied."
How can I troubleshoot this? Or, is there an alternate way to bring these contacts into iCloud for use also in Outlook and my iPhone 4?

i'm not sure this is possible. as far as i know you can only get contacts onto the ipod from either outlook OR windows contacts (which i think is only available with vista.)
there is an app called funambol, which will allow you to sync your contacts to an internet server, your ipod, and your mobile phone, using wifi.

This action would be performed on your computer, not on your iPad. Once you transfer your contacts from AOL on your computer to your Windows contacts list, you would then sync them to your iPad via a Computer iTunes sync to your iPad. You might want to Google the following:

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.

If your contacts are on icloud.com, download them as a vCard as explained here: iCloud: Export contact information as a vCard. Then import them to your phone as explained in your manual. If you aren't able to, you can create a Gmail account and import the vCard to Gmail as explained here: https://support.google.com/mail/answer/183711?hl=en, then add the Gmail account to your phone and sync your contacts from Gmail.
If they aren't on icloud.com, I'm not sure how you would access them from a backup on a Samsung, even if there was a backup.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
