Trying to import email files but Thunderbird doesn't show any "import from" choices when Outlook 2007 is my default email program
Have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled Thunderbird, no change. Am going by the how-to article that says "In order to import messages from Outlook to Thunderbird, Outlook must be the default mail client."
After all this, I will have to move the files from a Windows 7 machine to a new Windows 8 machine which will not have any Office programs on it.

I had switches off my iPhone 5 at around 20 percent battery next morning I was not able to switch it on. I tried to get it charged but it didn't showed any sign of charging even when plugged in for about 2 hours. I had to take it to apple care centre but they refused to repair it after confirming the problem with the device as it was out of warranty and asked me to get it replaced for INR 22500. I got it repaired outside but after that also if I switch it off in the same situation it again happens and I have to take it for repair it has happened 3 times after that. Is it a inherent problem in iPhone that it uses battery even when switched off and if in that case battery drain out then refuse to get charged because this is the scenario i have experienced every time?
Apple told you it was unrepairable.... You had it serviced by an unauthorized party. It's now no longer eligible for out of warranty replacement by Apple.
There's really nothing else we can say about it. Find a competent 3rd party repair shop or buy a new one. -
IPhoto app doesn't show any photos from my photos app
I just upgraded my new iPad to iOS 6 beta. Maybe that's the problem but suddenly my iPhoto app doesn't show any photos at all. All the tabs (albums, photos, events, etc) are empty. When I open the app it says "updating photo library" briefly, but that's it. I tried rebooting, deleting the app and reinstalling it, basically everything I could. Is this a known iOs6 bug?
Ok, I have the release and I have the issue, photos are just boxes w no pictures, is there a way to remove library and reload? The photo app works fine and all pictures are there.

I want to leave my Thunderbird email program open on my laptop during my work day and have my email downloaded automatically and a audible alert sound to let me know I have new mail. I have set my account settings so that this should happen, but it doesn't. I also tried setting in account settings for it to download once per minute, and it didn't. Any suggestions why this might be happening and what I can do to make it work?
Set your auto check to 15 minutes and see it work correctly. If you want mail frequency less that that stop using pp mail and use IMAP and then only on servers that support Push mail.
A setting of 1 minute is simply not going to work and is really only available for those who are connected to their own on site server via a fibre cable.
Ultimately remember that email is not SMS or IM, It is email and it arrives when it does and most certainly not immediately. -

I have spend days trying to figure out why my appointments don't show up on the iCloud calendar. iCal on my Mac is just fine, all appointments are visible and working. I can get contacts on iCloud and Mail on iCloud but calendar shows up with no appointments. Help !
I have this same problem. However, if I enter all my appointments on the iCloud calendar, they magically show up on my macbook air calendar.
I think the problem might be something to do with different logons. I have just bought this macbook air and when I transferred my old computer's data onto the new computer, time machine via migrantion assistant, it forced me to create a different user for the old data. The new identity automatically created by the new OS syncs to iCloud, but not the old data identity. Since I have all my data on the old identity, I want to keep using this. But how to get it to sync to iCloud? Can anyone help us? I can't see my mail on iCloud either - at least not from the old identity. -
My 7 year old macbook hard drive stopped working and I put in another hard drive but when I went to restore my information from airport time capsule it only shows today and nothing older. Help?
Did you do a TM backup after you installed the disk? It may write over the previous backup.. but it should actually start a new one.

You should be able to do a full recovery of the TM backup to a USB drive plugged into the computer. -

Cups: Printer doesn't print anything but cups doesn't show any error
I installed cups on my brand new machine. For some test pages, my HP LaserJet Professional 1102w worked as expected. Then, for no apparent reason, it stopped printing althoug I can't see any error messages. The print jobs just show up as "completed at Sat 11 Dec ...". Printing on the same printer works when it's plugged to another machine.
The printer is 'hp'. The 'hp_laser' printer which appears in the log is the same printer on a network host.

The printer was installed using hp-setup.
I would be very thankful for any hint.Any updates on this? I'm having a similar issue, except it's on a printer I've been using for a long time and only certain PDFs are causing problems. Some PDFs print fine, but for others I am only able to print a few pages (and then the printer stops and it looks like the job was completed, except for the missing pages in the output tray).

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is apparently critical. This seems to come and go, or only apply to App Stores in specific countries, so you may not see the option for "None" when asked for a payment type.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free content without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

SpindownHD doesn't show any hard drives

I'm trying to stop my external firewire drive from spinning down at inopportune times. I've installed the CHUD developer package, but spindownHD doesn't show any of my attached drives. Can anyone please tell me why this is?

I used to be able to download files from the Harddrive of my Sony Handycam, but now it won't let me import them while going through "log and transfer." I have tried to update my settings, but this doesn't seem to work. Any help would be much appreciated
Hard Drive: The Hard Drive is on my camera (Sony Handycam)
Just needed some info on what is going on with your particular system.
Knowing the exact camera model will also assist us.
If this camera is standard AVCHD you should be able to connect with USB to Mac with FCE open and use Log and Transfer without all the fiddling around converting etc.
What FCE does during ingest is convert files to AIC. (Apple Intermediate Codec)
FCE cannot read the individual files in the BDMV folder, that's why all the converting is required when you use that method.
BTW: regards formatting drives/cards/memory on cameras; it is wise to use the actual device to format rather than a computer. This is a prime cause of read/write goof ups with solid state media. This applies to still or video cameras.
Keeping the COMPLETE card/memory structure in tact is vital for successful transfers.

I have iphoto 6 and my pictures are no longer showing. I have tried importing them but it just give me an error msg. (file format not recognized) I have tried rebuilding the iphoto library but that doesn't work either. Any suggestions?
How did you rebuild?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
