Trying to import IPhoto 6.06 into Aperture 3.0 But Import Button Disabled

I'm trying to import my iphoto 6.0.6 library into aperture 3.0. I was planning to leave the photos in place. I'm using file->import->iphoto library. Then I've entered store files in current location and do not import duplicates.
The problem is that not matter how I set the parameters in the import dialog the import button is never enabled.
How do I get the import button to enable?

It would be helpful if the iPhoto version limitation was stated somewhere.
So, then are there any options for importing from earlier version of iPhoto into Aperture 3?

  • Problems importing iPhoto 06 files into Aperture 2.1

I have iphoto 06 on a 2006 Mac Book Pro with OS X 10.4.11. I've upgraded RAM to 2Gb and have recently installed Aperture 2.0 with the upgrade to Aperture 2.1.
I'm trying to drag individual RAW (12Mb) files from iPhoto 06 into Aperture 2.1 via the File > show iPhoto Browser command. Unfortunately, Aperture just seems to hang at this stage. The program appears to be importing (little wheels spinning etc) however, nothing happens. I usually loose patience at the 20-min stage and force quit. I figure even with 2Gb of RAM it should not take +20-min to transfer one 12Mb file. Please note i've tried dragging the files in as both Masters and Referenced Masters and it makes no difference Aperture still seems to hang.
    Any advice?
    Thx,

Aperture, actually OS X, goes by camera make and model not by file. The reason being that RAW files from the same manufacturer with the same file extension but from different camera models can and often do have different formats.
So it's not possible to talk about adding a certain manufactures file or extension you need to specify the camera make and model. Then you can see what version of Aperture and Camera RAW bundle you need to accomplish that.
See http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html for the list of RAW cameras currently supported. The only Kodak that shows up is the DCS Pro/SLR n which was supported starting back with Aperture 2 in Tiger or Leopard.

  • Can't Import iPhoto Library "package" into Aperture 3

Hi there, I've recently made a backup of all my data and did a clean reinstall of Lion, so the problem is that I won't be using my iLife 11 Suite, so as for my photos I want to take advantage of my recently purchased copy of Aperture 3 but when I ever try to import my iPhoto Library Package, it won't let me, this message pops:
    Invalid iPhoto Library
Importing libraries from versions earlier than iPhoto 7.1.5 is not supported. Please upgrade your iPhoto library with iPhoto 7.1.5 or later.
So, searched into some discussions and realize I had to upgrade or restore my library using iPhoto.
Is there any other way to get all my photos and videos in that package, into my aperture library?
One thing to consider is that I can right-click this package and open its contents and then I can get individual files and view everything, but since there's this function for importing all of the library, I would really love to do it this way, not individually.
    NEED HELP PLEASE!

Ii you are sure that all of your iPhoto images have been transferred safely, you can remove the you iPhoto Library from your system drive. But keep a backup copy of it on an external drive or thumbsdrive- sometimes you'll notice only later that some images could not be imported properly because of some corruption in the iPhoto library, and then it will be very helpful to still be able to open your old iPhoto Library.

  • I can't import from my iPhone into Aperture anymore

Since upgrading last night to 10.10.3 and running the new Photos app, I'm unable to import from my iPhone into Aperture. My iPhone does not show up in the Import pane. Anybody else seeing this? or am I missing something?

I agree that Apple screwed Aperture users. I don't understand why. Over the last few years, Apple has dumbed down some applications which makes those apps much less useful. Then they slowly start adding some functions back in for a couple of years then nothing. Look at Pages. It still is missing features that the old pages had.
Apple should have simply given Aperture to everybody and maybe implemented a Simple User function for those people that don't need professional features. Here was an app ready to go and what does Apple do? Get rid of Aperture to come up with a "toy" replacement, as somebody on these discussion boards mentioned. I'm very disappointed in Apple and the direction that some of these apps are taking. I used to enthusiastically push Apple products to everybody but now I mind my own business. It's a sad state of affairs. The whole quality has gone down. All this reminds me of Apple before Steve Jobs took over. Somebody needs to crack the whip over there and focus on quality and useful apps AND listen to the users.

  • Hello Apple community... I am trying to combine multiple pdf's into one, using preview, but when I drag the additional pages they show up as separate documents.

I am trying to combine multiple pdf's into one, using preview, but when I drag the additional pages they show up as separate documents.  When I drag the doc in a line would show up in the past, and if I went above th eline all was good.  It doesn't have a line, and no matter what I try I am having no success.
    Please help!

According to an Apple Support article, unless there are unforeseen issues
in file ownership or permissions, the combining of .PDFs should be simple.

  • Importing Photoshop RAW images into Aperture

When I import Photoshop RAW images that I have made adjustments to, into my Aperture library, they show up as the original RAW files and not with my adjustments. Is there a way to get the RAW adjustments imported as well.
The only reason I need to import them into Aperture is to post them in a web gallery. Or is there a way to create a ME web gallery directly from Photoshop files? How about creating a ME web gallery directly from Lightroom? Anybody have a clue?)
(Btw, in attemtpting to research this topic, I find I am totally unable to do a search of the discussions. Even with a search word like "Aperture", I get no messages. Not matter what search word I enter I get no messages found. ???)
    Thanks!
    Jim

    Thanks for the reply Allen.
I am saving them all as TIFFS now. I was just trying to avoid that time-consuming step. I do not really need them as TIFFS right now. It is to show edited RAW files to a client. Later, when selections are made, I would save that much smaller number of images as TIFFS. But it seems that there is no other way to import the RAW files with the edits into Aperture.
I used to create all of my web albums for clients in PS. But once I got a .mac account, I love and prefer the look of the .mac web galleries. But of course that necessitated importing all my PS files into either iPhoto (not an option) or Aperture. But can these PS web galleries be exported to a .mac web gallery?
    Thanks!

  • Why do I get two images when importing from i-photo into aperture

    Guys
I am a new convert to Mac's and am a keen amateur photographer ,I have transfered my photo library from my old pc into i-photo initially which worked fine and for my photo editing package I have loaded up aperture 3.When I transfer RAW photos from I-photo library into Aperture I end up with two raw images of the same photo one is called 'i-photo original raw' and the other ' i-photo edited raw ' I think I am probably missing a trick somewhere but am worried I will rapidly fill up file space with all these raw images.

When you import a Raw to iPhoto it automatically makes a jpeg Preview of the shot. Why? Because you can't do anything with Raw - can't print it, share it online, use it in other apps etc. So to allow you to use the file immediately the Preview is available. That's the second file you're getting.
You're not trying to use iPhoto and Aperture together are you? It's a waste of time and a cause of some frustration. Aperture is a complete replacement for iphoto, and you're really better off picking one horse to ride and forget about the other. Like iphoto, Aperture is a Photo Manager and post processor - but rather more powerful. Both apps are database driven. Aperture is not an "editing package".
If you do opt to stay with iPhoto then use an editor like Photoshop, Elements, Acorn, Pixelmator etc as your editng package.

  • Can't import .txt keyword file into Aperture! Help!

I have a .txt file that we are using on site at a shoot. But, Aperture will NOT import this file into the keywords when using "import". I've tried copying and pasting, importing, everything. Any help on accomplishing this would be greatly appreciated!

I'm having the same issue on iPhone 3GS.
I have a bunch of images in Camera Roll which are no longer automatically importing into iPhoto.
    Hmm.

  • How can I import iphoto projects (books) into Iphoto?

My un-backupped Mac crashed, and I had the files recreated professionally. Now I want to import my books back into iPhoto, but either I am trying with the wrong files, or I am doing it wrong. Anyway I cannot import the "project.db" files, which the Mac tries to open i Word by default!
Any ideas how to do it?

Simply putting files in to specific places is enough to recreate the Library. An iPhoto Library is not just a gathering of files but a complex ecosystem of interlinked files, caches and database files. It's more than the sum of its parts, and those parts are not always what you think. For instance, those project.db files have nothing to do with books

  • Importing Lightroom 2 keywords into Aperture

    Hi.
I just got Aperture but am currently using Lightroom 2 and am trying to switch over. I'm trying to find a way to export my photos from Lightroom and them import them into Aperture but still have the keywords attached to the photos so that I do not have to go through all of the photos and re-keyword them.
    Thanks for any help!

I've got similar issue, but for me it's importing my photos from Digikam (Linux).
Digikam supports hierarchal tags (keywords) and stores them as ITPC keywords and, as noted by the OP, Aperture picks these up which is great. The problem/limitation is that ITPC keywords are flat so, in order to maintain the hierarchy, DK writes them to ITPC as '/' delimited.
For example, I have the following tag hierarchy in DK:
    People
    ...Family
    ......Me
    ......Mo
    ......Tanya
    ......Tamzyn
A photo tagged in DK with Me and Tanya results in the following ITPC keywords:
    People, People/Family, People/Family/Me, People/Family/Tanya
Aperture adds each of those as a discrete keyword which is OK as it means the metadata is retained, but is there anyway, scripting perhaps, to have Aperture recognize the '/' delimited keywords as a hierarchy (I've created the same hierarchy in Aperture)?

  • Photos wont import from my 5s into Aperture since 2015 & photo stream has stopped

Since new year none of my photos on my 5s are showing in Aperture to import. Everything from previous years is visible in Aperture to import but it shows nothing from 2015???
The photo stream in Aperture has also stopped on the 1st Jan 2015??
If I plug in my ipad it will show the photo that has been taken in 2015 and I can import it no worries which makes me think its my phone???

in my case it turned out to be a corrupt thumbnail cache on the iPhone. The more I tried to use pictures in other apps the more it became obvious that something bigger was wrong, not just with apeture. For example I couldn't select a photo from my phone to upload to facebook either, it just did nothing when I clicked on them. Some research revelaed that with the freeware "iExplorer" that lets you browse the phone as files on a disk you can delete the cache files and databases and force the phone to rebuild them. Upon rebuilding them everything is back and I just imported eveything into Aperture without difficulty. After running iExplorer I navigated into the media folder, and the photo data folder. I deleted the "com.apple.photos/caches_metadada.plist" and also the "Photos.sqlite" and "PhotosAux.sqlite" files then shutdown and restarted the phone. The first time I accessed the photos after the restart it said I had no photos, but a little while later it rebuilt the lists and all is well. That info I got off some site on the internet and I believe that it's been posted here on apples discussions site too, but it never hurts to have more than one copy I have no idea how they got corrupted in the first place, nothing like this has ever happened before.

  • Imported photo and video into aperture. Now missing

I imported some photos and video into aperture last night. I also imported 14,000 jpegs from an SD card shot on a gopro. I checked it was all in four seperate folders in aperture and even wached one folders content as a slideshow. I left my Mac on last night. When I returned to do more work all last nights imports were gone. I am no expert in aperture and have had no problems before.
I contacted apple support and was advised to delete aperture (not the library) and get the up to date version from App store. This I did but still no sign.
Where should I be looking. I haver done all the usual searches of the project names I saved etc. HELP

    Thanks Leonie
I have looked at GraphicConverter and I'm considering a purchase. I have been trying various free tools for fiddling with metadata but none have ever been entirely satisfactory.
What I particularly like about Aperture's geotagging is that you can drag and drop on to a Google map - nice and easy. But I hate that I have to export the image in order to embed - I have a decent DSLR now so there's no way I will run those original images through an export process - Aperture definitely does interefere with the image as well as the metadata! I wish Aperture would allow proper writing of metadata to masters - other forums confirm it can only write IPTC metadata, and even that appears to be flaky! I don't want all my information to be tied in to Aperture - each master file should 'stand alone' with all its relevant information intact, for any tool I choose to use to interact with it, or if I should send it to anyone else.
I can't see from their website - is there a user-frendly interface in GraphicConverter for geotagging including a map drag-and-drop? Or do you manually have to enter coordinates in to metadata fields? I assume you can edit IPTC and EXIF metadata to add keywords and things? This would be a useful tool alongside Aperture, to make up for its shortcomings.
I could use GraphicConverter to add geotags (and keywords) prior to import in to Aperture as part of my import process. At least until I get a camera with GPS and then all this will be a thing of the past!
I will investigate with videos and post back here with any results. My research on the web is very inconclusive and it looks like different manufacturers use different conventions for video geotags, so I'll see what I can do!
Personally I find geotags one of the most valuable pieces of metadata I can attach to my personal images and videos, alongside date and time, so i am determined to find a way to do both!!

  • I have a Canon EOS T2i Camera and I want to import the RAW images into Aperture.  How do I import them as RAW images instead of jpeg ?

How do I import RAW images from my Canon EOS T2i camera into Aperture and have them show up as RAW images and not jpeg images?

See the list of supported raw formats:
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
The footnote ** for the cameras  EOS Rebel T2i EF-S / 550D / Kiss X4**  says, that the raw format is only supported with Aperture 3. So you will have to upgrade to Aperture 3, to be able to import the raw from from your camera.

  • Import keywords and ratings into Aperture from adobe apps?

    Hi,
I'm currently using adobe bridge/ps2/pse etc as my main apps. I use keywords and ratings extensively.
When I import my photos into aperture, will I also be able to keep my current ratings/keyword tagging?
    Thanks.

I also used Bridge/ACR to rate and add keywords to RAWS (Canon) and also used Adobe DNG converter to make DNG files from these.
No ratings or keywords have imported for any RAWs and DNGs. And, for some DNG files (which I can see in Bridge and iViewMedia), they cannot be displayed in Aperture. It's very strange since I've used the same workflow to create the DNG files over the past year. Some can be imported/viewed, some cannot be viewed. All originally from the same camera/RAW file. I've read in this forum that Aperture cannot read things like keywords from sidecar files.
I am hopeful that Apple will make DNG sidecar file import a big priority.
