Trying to import one of six folders in my Earthlink WebMail to .Mac Mail

Earthlink WebMail has no process to export mail to .Mac Mail or any other email service. I'd like to import one of the six folders in my Earthlink email to .Mac Mail. I launched Apple's "Mail Help" and opened "Importing email into Mail" and followed the instructions clicking on "other" because Earthlink isn't listed. I got the prompt "You will now be asked for the location of a folder containing your mbox files." (I assume "mbox" means "mailbox.") I clicked "continue" and, in the Import window, selected the Earthlink folder in Applications on my MBP hard drive. Of the 16 folders and documents that appeared, nine were accessible (meaning the other seven were "gray." The nine are Anarchie 2.0.2, Capsules, Earthlink New Users Guide, Internet Config, Internet Explorer 5.1, Media, Microsoft Internet Applications, Stuffit Expander Folder, and Utlities.
Is any of those what I want? Suggestions on how to proceed?
If it helps, I am not set up through IMAP. My incoming mail server for Mail is mail.mac.com and outgoing is smtp.mac.com. I don't know if that's relevant.
Thank you.

Hi John,
No experience with this, and I don't think it's gouing to work, but I think Mail wants a new Mailbox under Mail>Mailbox, and point it to that Mailbox.
Some Webmail is really primitive, and you'll likely only get them to your machine by Forwarding them one by one to your .mac addy.

  • Error when trying to copy one of my folders, or compress it in the finder

When I try to copy one of my folders, or compress it in the finder, a window pops up with this message: "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error coded -8060)". It does not say which file or folder is the problem. I don't see anything relevant in the Console either.
Please advise, I need to back up that folder.  It is where I keep Xcode projects

I found some subdirectories within my Project folder that were complete duplicates of other directories. After deleting those, I no longer had the error.  I don't know where they came from, but think they may have been created after an upgrade, say from Xcode 3.0 to 4.0 but don't remember.  Anyway, don't know any more about it, only that it went away after I deleted those duplicate subfolders.  Good luck !

  • I am trying to import photos into PSE 12 from folders on my desktop, which are organized by broad topics--family, vacations, etc..  Many of my photos are located in several folders.  When I try to import them to PSE I get a message saying some photos were

I am new to PSE 12 and am trying to import my photos from folders on my desktop which I have organized by the categories I had in my previous program (Creative Memories).  Many of my photos are located in multiple folders, i.e. one photo could be in "Family," Vacations" and "Birthdays."  When I try to import the contents of each folder on my desktop I am often getting the message that many of my photos were not imported as they are already in my catalog.  Is there a way that I can import any one photo multiple times so that it ends up in all the folders I want it to be in?  I know I can locate the photo in PSE and copy it to a different folder(s), but there are so many not being imported that this would be a huge task!

By design, the organizer (and any other database management systems) is there to prevent you from duplicating your media files. The catalog management allows you to have the same image in different categories or albums. Duplication in different folders is to be absolutely avoided.
The same image file can have multiple tags like 'family', 'vacations', 'birthdays' and be present in three different albums with the same names. On obvious advantage is less disk space. Another one with your present folder system is that if you edit one of your duplicates, the other ones are unchanged.
I don't see an easy way to make your present folder structure simplified for the organizer ...

  • Tiger upgrade of mail tries to import non existant messages

On my G5 17" iMac, I've upgraded from Panther to Tiger. I can't upgrade to 10.5 because I need some OS 9 aps. The first time I open Mail in Tiger, it wants to import my 2 imap accounts. It is trying to import messages I've deleted and cleared. I synced the mail accounts on another computer and the imap account shows there are less than 2000 messages. Mail is trying to import 12k and gets hung up around 2.6k. I wants 5 hours to do the import. I tried restarting the computer. I re-synced the mail accounts and mail rules. And the thing still wants to import messages that I've cleared from the imap server.
    Ideas?
    Thanks.

The conversion from Mail 1.x to Mail 2.x is broken, but it isn’t clear what the problem really is nor what it really is that Mail is trying to import in your case. I’d set up Mail again from scratch and manually import back afterwards any messages you may have stored in local mailboxes, as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/. Move (not copy) the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop.
    4. Open Mail and set it up again from scratch. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and check that everything works fine.
    5. You’ll have to re-configure your Mail > Preferences settings. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    6. If Mail works fine now and you had any messages stored in local mailboxes, do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import your mail from the old Mail folder that’s now on the Desktop. Import the Mailboxes folder first, then each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders, if any.
There are two ways to import Mail 1.x mailboxes into Mail 2.x. The obvious one is importing them as Mail for Mac OS X. But Mail 1.x stored mail in standard mbox format plus some additional support files, and this allows Mail 1.x mailboxes to also be imported as Other, i.e. as generic mailboxes in standard mbox format.
Importing as Mail for Mac OS X produces the best results when it works, because it takes into consideration all the files in the mailboxes, not just the mbox files where the messages are stored, and hence, allows information such as status flags to be preserved. Importing as Other, on the other hand, may work in cases where importing as Mail for Mac OS X doesn’t, because it looks at the mbox files only, ignoring the support files which is what Mail 2.x usually chokes on, but precisely because of that, information such as status flags is lost and previously deleted messages may reappear.
Hence, you may try importing as much as you can as Mail for Mac OS X, then import the problematic mailboxes as Other.
Note that what Mail asks for when importing depends on the format chosen. Mail always asks for the folder that contains the “things” to be imported. If Mail for Mac OS X is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the .mbox folders, so you must choose the folder that contains them, not the .mbox folders themselves. On the other hand, if Other is chosen as the data format, the “things” to be imported are the mbox files, so choosing the .mbox folders would work in that case.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages to other mailboxes and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards if you want.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

I checked , there are no references in transport configuration to this client.
Error we got during import:-client 135 does not exist. Choose another client.
Can someone pl. let me know what could be the reason.
    Best Regards,

    Hi Markus,
We did not give target client while importing. We left it blank. But source client of transport request  is 001. But in log
600 ( default login client )------> selection for import
    135                                 -

600 is ok but why this 135 is selected for import. That is the problem.

  • Importing one Pdf document into another.

I am trying to import one Pdf-document into another using a Reference XObject. I am looking at thePDF- specification, and I thought I was doing things the right way, but its not working. The PDF-specification doesen't have an example of how to do this, only an explanation.
Below is the PDF-file I am testing with (if anyone can be bothered looking at it   ). The file embeds another pdf-file, and is supposed to show a part of the embedded file at a certain position.
Again, if anyone can be bothered looking at my PDF and see if they can see what I am doing wrong here I would appreciate it.
(There is nothing wrong with the embedded file itself...)

PDF is a binary format. The most important piece in a PDF file is the cross
reference table. It contains byte offsets to the different objects in a
file. If you insert just one space (which in a true ASCII file will not
change much), you are making all byte offsets after the insertion point
invalid. They now all point to something different than the start of an
    object.
Because there is no standard about how line endings are encoded in text
files, every time may add (or subtract) a byte - depending on what computer
system and what editor you use to convert your PDF to fake-ASCII, and then
again what I use to try to convert it back to PDF. If you are using a
Windows system and I'm using a Mac, the cross reference table gets
corrupted. And that's even before the web server does it's magic and
    potentially adds data.
If you want somebody to look at your file.
Have you looked at the post I linked to? The settings in Acrobat are
important. You need to enable Reference XObjects, AND you have to declare
the directory where your target file is stored as trusted.
From what I can see in your PDF code, you are doing a whole bunch of cm
operations. You may want to consolidate all those into one operation. I
have not done a detailed analysis, but you could potentially shift your
data off the page. Keep it simple and see if that makes a difference.

  • How do I move my contacts and folders from Earthlink Webmail to Thunderbird

Just installed Thunderbird and I want to import all my contact addresses and saved folders from Earthlink Webmail to Thunderbird Mail.

    Install thunderbird.
    Create a mail account.
    '''If POP mail account:'''
    Tools > Import
    select 'Mail'
    click on Next
Pop mail accounts can only see the server Inbox. It downloads all previously not downloaded mail to the mail account Inbox.
Pop mail accounts cannot see any other fodler on the server. This is not a Thunderbird quirk, this is how all pop mail accounts work no matter what the email client.
To get emails downloaded from other folders on the server.
    * Logon to webmail account.
    * Move emails into Inbox.
    * In Thunderbird click on GetMail.
    * when emails are successfully doownloaded move them into suitable folders.
    '''If IMAP mail account,'''
you need to subscribe to see folders.
then synchronize folders to keep local copies if desired.

In webmail, export the address book/contacts in a comma separated .csv file and save to your desktop.
    In Thunderbird
    open 'Address Book'

I am having a problem trying to migrate some old email messages from a PC running Windows live mail.
I downloaded Thunderbird to the PC and imported the email messages and folders into Thunderbird and was able to create Mbox files for all the folders and messages. I  copied these files to a usb stick and then tried to export the folders and messages to my iMac running Lion. It appeared  to copy the folders to the Mac but only one message per folder was placed on the computer. Does anyone have any ideas on how I should proceed to copy these email messages over? Thanks.

All of the other movies on the card download with out a problem. The movie in question is not 'corrupt' as you can watch it in iMovie direct from the SD card but as soon as you try to import it, it  just says 'error'. iIve tried moving the file to an external drive ( and other variations on this theme) then importing but have had no luck.
    Can anyone please help me.

    The mystery remains....
Thanks for the pointers. The file type is .mts (a proprietry sony one).
I have now found some video converter software (Wondershare and iSkysoft) at a cost. Either will convert this file for me into .mp4. This I can then import into iMovie without any problems. I've checked this on the trial versions and it worked well but without paying am left with a giant watermark in the video
The mystery (which I still havent solved) is why did 20 other .mts files import fine and then this one not?
If you could point me in the direction of some free .mts converter software that would be the cherry on the cake.

To select consecutive images click and drag the cursor over multiple thumbnails to select all at once.
To select multiple images that are randomly located hold down the Command(⌘) key and click on those images you want to select.
Or to select consecutive images from a list of images that are together hold down the Shift key and and click on the first photo you want to select and the on the last photo you want in the list.

Rip the CDs with another program on your computer, and add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.  (If you use Windows Media Player for this purpose, make sure the Rip Setting is on MP3, or else it will default to a useless format known as WMA.)
