Trying to install 10.7 on a mac mini core duo that has a core 2 duo cpu

I have installed a core 2 duo cpu (T7200) in an earlier Mac Mini core duo machine. Runs fine, the system report shows the Core 2 chip.   When I try to install 10.7 over 10.6.8, however, the installer reports that it cannot install this version of OS X on this machine.
It is possible of course to install 10.7 on another machine and clone that to the hard drive here.  But that seems like the hard way, jumping through too many hoops.  Surely there must be somewhere in the (list of) plist files to tell the installer that it is OK to put 10.7 on this machine.  I've tried a few places but w/o success.  Perhaps someone is a good system hacker who knows how to do this?  Many thanks,
tony

I agree-- that is a method that is often suggested.  I apologize for doing the Yes, but....  routine;  I have several other Macs, but I'd have to back one up (or clone it), clear the hard drive, install 10.7 on it, and then go through your suggestion.  In principle it seems straightforward.   I might have to resort to that.  I had hoped that it would be possible for a more software-centric way, of convincing the installer that the machine was OK;  Have I missed something here?
I've tried several suggested methods, and the closest so far is to get an installation from a bootable usb stick that looks like it's installing and then I get a circle with a line across it.  No error messages.
the machine is a 1,1 original that now runs fine with 2 gigs memory, a core 2 duo (T7200) cpu.  and 10.6.8.
I have tried removing the lines in the plist files that require the 3,1 machines, etc. but that has not helped.
If my time was worth more than 10 cents an hour I should have thrown the sucker away and bought a new one.  I have an i5 Mini that screams.  any more suggestions are most welcome.
thanks

  • Trying to install Leopard server on my Mac mini

I'm a registered Apple Select Developer and I'm trying to install Leopard Server on a Mac mini I just picked up the other day. Is there a way to do this using the image or do I have to burn a DVD in order to do the install? The image is over 5GB's so I'd need to get a dual layer disk.

Is this just for a test?
If so you can create 3 partitions, one a bootable volume the second partition a place to restore the Leopard image and the third partition to install the new software you restored on the second partition. You do loose two small volumes temporarily, but you can make them relatively small since these are only used for installation purposes. The details can be found on the developer site under " leopardclient_9a377a_seednote.rtf".
I've done this on older machines with no CD players installed.

    Hi Klaus1,
Thank you for getting back to me. Both the MacBook Pro and Mac Mini are running the latest version of OS X Lion 10.7.5.
I am trying to install Samsung printer software. On the Mini though I cannot install ANYTHING, google earth, printer software, modem software etc...
I just get to the stage I have to enter my password for permission. It won't accept a wrong password, accepts the right password but window just goes away and back to install page when you click install asks for the password again..Very frustrating.

  • Trying to install Leopard on my 2005 Mac Mini. It keeps telling me "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer." Thoughts?

So I happened to receive a 2005 Mac Mini from my father that was running Ubuntu. Now I'd like to switch it back over to OS X. However, I boot up on the Leopard install disk to install it and it tells me that Mac OS X cannot be installed on this computer. I've erased the hard drive as a Mac OS (Journaled). Any ideas?

If you hold the mouse button while you power the machine on, the disk will slide out and you can swap in the retail disk.
Then power off, and this time hold down the C key while booting up and it will boot off of the CD and put you in the installer, allow you to partition the disk, etc.

  • Why can't I install MacOSX Lion on a Mac Mini with 10.6.8, 2GB RAM, and CPU upgraded to Core2 Duo?

I have an older Intel Mac Mini running fully updated Snow Leopard with an upgraded CPU (Core2 Duo), RAM (2GB), and hard drive.
Supposedly, this should be compatible with Lion, but the App Store refuses to download it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

It's not the graphics card it is the fact that it is an "upgraded"
system.  Lion, as with any OSX install, is based on the
original computer ID.  If the ID indicated that it was not
a model that was shipped with a CPU that meets the minimum
    requirements it will not install.
The reason I say it is not the graphics card, is that my
Macbook has that card and Lion installed without issue.  It
was, however, equipped with a Core2Duo processor.

  • My mac mini is 2007 and has a core duo so I cannot install lion which needs a 2 core duo. Does this exclude me from the iCloud or is there a way I can upgrade my mac mini?

Mac mini duo core. I want to join the iCloud as I have MobileMe . However my mac mini has a dou core and not a 2 duo core I cannot by the lion app to install. Is there anyway I can upgrade my mac mini to 2 duo core? Or get the iCloud installed any other way?

You must have Lion to use iCloud, although you can still access iCloud.com for the web services. Your email is unaffected.

  • I am trying to install a program on my Mac Book Pro Retina from a Apple SuperDrive. Every time I run the installer, it says I do not have enough memory to install. However, I definitely have enough memory (186.74 GB). Any ideas why?

I am trying to install a program on my Mac Book Pro Retina from a Apple SuperDrive. Every time I run the installer, it says I do not have enough memory to install. However, I definitely have enough memory (186.74 GB). The program takes only 550 MB. Any ideas why?

Thanks for the clarification on the terms. I consider myself proficent at my computer, but not exactly in its inner-workings! I have 8 GB of memory installed.
I am still confused as to why I do not have any space for the program. This is the exact error message I get: "There is not enough free space on Macintosh HD disk. The Print Shop 2 application requires about 550 MB to be installed. Free some disk space and try again."
Thank you again for your help.

  • Trying to install MS Office 2011 for Mac SP 2 on my Macbook Air (Lion 10.7.3). I have to close Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent but can not see how to do so.  I have closed all applications.  Can anyone help? Many thanks

Trying to install MS Office 2011 for Mac SP 2 (14.2.0) on my Macbook Air (Lion 10.7.3). I have to close Microsoft Database Daemon and SyncServicesAgent but can not see how to do so.  I have closed all applications.  Can anyone help? Many thanks

Thanks Kurt!  I had tried all that and had tried closing both programmes from the application monitor, but SyncServices Agent refused to close.  I tried closing Launchd which is their mother application, but that just caused the screen go go blank.  In the end the two programmes let themselves be closed next time I tried the installation process so all was well.  Thanks for your help!

  • HT1338 I have HP LaserJet 200 colorMFP M276nw and trying to install the driver on my mac pro; it gives me the error message that the driver is not available.

    Hi,
I have HP LaserJet 200 colorMFP M276nw and trying to install the driver on my mac pro; it gives me the error message that the driver is not available.

Typically this is caused by the internal list of compatible devices in the Mac being out of date.  All you should need to do is disconnect the printer from the Mac, run Apple Software Update (even if there are no updates, the list will still update), restart the Mac, connect the printer to the Mac, and add the print queue.  If that doesn't work, let me know.

  • Trying to install Windows 7 on my mac pro

Trying to install Windows 7 on my mac pro.  I'm running 10.6, I have boot camp 3.04 and after I partition and install the disc (using 32bit) it restarts automatically and freezes on a black screen.  I have updated my software so what should I do?  Thanks.

A., Use 64-bit for sure. You have too much RAM and hardware and VRAM
    B. Put Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1, you have a dual processor you need Pro.
    C. A dedicated drive for Windows.
    D. At least 50GB
    E. most important, pull all drives out and leave in just the drive Windows will install onto.

  • I am trying to install Firefox 4 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 and I get the error message "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture" Help!

I am trying to install Firefox 4 on my Mac OS 10.5.8 and I get the error message "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture" Help!

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • My hard drive went out one of my Macs and I am trying to install logic studio on another Mac but the serial number is invalid. What are my options?

My hard drive went out one of my Macs and I am trying to install logic studio on another Mac but the serial number is invalid. What are my options?

Check that the serial you are using is the correct one..
Typically the problem is either you are misreading the serial and therefore typing it in wrong. Check you are correctly entering zeros or O.. and so on....
    or...
You bought the LP9 upgrade version.... which requires the LP8 full serial as well.
If it is the LP9 upgrade serial.. (and not the LP9 full serial) you must enter your original LP8 full serial first and then the upgrade serial for LP9.. when it asks for it.
Failing that.. you can obtain a replacement serial from Apple.. using this form.....
