Trying to install 5.1 on older system.

Hi all.
I'm working on a client's machine and he's just bought Tiger and FCS 5.1 for it. The machine is a bit of a legacy machine, it's a 450mhz DP G4.
Tiger is on and everything is updated to the latest versions and he also has FCP 4.5 on it.
I know that the minimum requirements for FCP 5.1 are a 500mhz G4 and that out of the whole suite it has the lowest system requirements.
When I try to install 5.1 it will let me install everything except FCP which is greyed out and has SKIP in it's action column. THis has me flumoxed since DVDSP etc all have much higher minimum system requirements but the installer has no problems with putting them on to the old machine.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is and how I can get FCP 5.1 on the system?
Many thanks
John

My understanding of FCP 5.1 is that in only loads on Intel CPU machines.
The new version, however, is truly Universal and is supposed to load on PowerPC and the Intel Core Macs.

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

how can I fix it, i turned off and on, and the message still there help please

If you have a PPC Mac, you can't install Windows unless you are using something like Parallels or a virtual application.  If you are using Boot Camp, eject the disc, reboot and try again.

You are asking in the forum for Apple's defunct office suite AppleWorks. I would ask the Hosts to move your question to an appropriate forum but as you haven't stated your operating system it's not clear which this should be.

  • [SOLVED] Trying to install GRUB2 on a UEFI system

    Hey all,
I have an MSI Sandy Bridge motherboard which has a 64-bit UEFI.  It comes with a shell for what it's worth, but I cannot seem to get the final step in GRUB2's installation to work.
Here's exactly what I run into:
I got GRUB2 properly configured, load the efivars kernel module (verified that it is loaded by checking lsmod), and then issue the command:
    efibootmgr --create --gpt --disk /dev/sdb --part 1 --write-signature --label "GRUB2" --loader "\\EFI\\grub\\grub.efi"
The issue I get in return is:
Fatal: Couldn't open either sysfs or procfs directories for accessing EFI variables.
    Try 'modprobe efivars' as root.
Problem is, that was already done.  I tried chrooting into the installation directory, and I am met with the same issue.  I am using the official arch installation media since it was recently updated and should be able to do EFI stuff, I'm thinking, but maybe I'm wrong.  I'm in the process of downloading Ubuntu's 11.10 alpha 3 installation media since 11.04 did not work either (couldn't load the module since the live cd was out of date, and the downloaded efibootmgr included efivars for a different kernel version I guess).
Either way, anyone have any other tips for me?  Is there any way I can utilize the EFI shell that came with my motherboard to make this work instead?

I just used Ubuntu 11.10 Alpha 3 to do the efibootmgr command, and it did succeed, and I have a UEFI listing for GRUB2 now, however I guess my motherboard handles this a little weird, and I have to go into the config screen to actually load GRUB.  Strange.  Sounds like it's my motherboard at this point and not Arch.  Carry on

  • Anyone tried to install Aperture on older G5/G4?

Has anyone tried to install Aperture on an older PowerMac G5 or PowerMac G4 that **has been upgraded** to a compliant graphics card? If anyone has had success in this regard and has done so on a PowerMac G4, could you also indicate whether or not you're using a processor upgrade?
I know the compatibility checker indicates such installations won't work, but it's important someone actually tries it for real -- maybe someone who has Aperture on a supported machine but also an unsupported one sitting around.

How do you know? And, if you don't own or have access to unsupported hardware or know of a case where someone has failed or succeeded in installing the actual application on unsupported hardware, I have to wonder why you submitted this "answer"; it's not helpful.
Since I made the original post I found, thanks to MacSurfer, a blog in which the author of the blog reported he had succeeded in installing the application on a PowerMac G4 that did not have Core Image support -- a 2003 G4 with "1.4GHz dual processors" (so I assume the 1.42GHz dual Firewire 800 model), and a boring old Radeon 9000 video card. The only requirements he officially met were the 1GB of RAM and 5GB of hard drive space. If this is a) true and b) typical, it means that not only is the application not blocked against certain processors or systems (not too surprising), it is also not blocked against non-Core Image graphics cards (a huge surprise to me).

I'd like to know if this is strictly an accident (or a hack) or if it is indeed widespread. As someone with a 1.2GHz G4 who is considering putting in a 256MB VRAM Radeon 9600, chances are I could run this application quite comfortably if this report is accurate and did not involve a hack.

    I am using Windows 8.

    Hi,
Which version of Photoshop Elements are you trying to install?
Are you installing from DVD or a download?
If DVD, make sure you are using the Windows one, not the MAC one.
What device are you trying to install on?
Does your system meet the required spec?
Are you on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1?

  • Installing dev and quality BW system one one hana db

    Hi Experts,
We are trying to install Dev and BW quality system on one HANA appliance. Please reply with any of the best practices and docs for this type of installations.
    Thank you,
    Praveen

    Hi Praveen,
Hardware resources permitting, SAP supports running multiple HANA databases (or SIDs) on a single non-production HANA system.
While original HANA appliance is installed and delivered by your hardware partner with a single database, you could use SAP HANA Lifecycle Manager to install additional HANA databases on to the appliance.  Of course, you need to ensure resources are available on existing appliance.
Few URLs towards MCOS and BW on HANA as follows:
SAP Note 1681092 - Multiple SAP HANA databases on one SAP HANA system
SAP Note 1666670 - BW on SAP HANA - landscape deployment planning
Multiple applications running on single SAP HAN... | SAP HANA
Few sizing notes for BW on HANA as follows, which will be of use:
SAP Note 1637145 - SAP BW on HANA: Sizing SAP In-Memory Database
SAP Note 1736976 - Sizing Report for BW on HANA
Post-installation, ensure to fine-tune configuration parameters to exploit optimum performance for each of the database running on the appliance
Wish you all the best towards your installation!
    Best regards,
    Shaji

  • Mac won't power up after trying Leopard install.  Black screen of death.

After trying to install an upgrade from Tiger, the installer said that if I wanted to continue, it would install a new volume and erase all my data. That sounded bad, so I hit cancel and chose quit installer from the menu bar. My mac asked which OS I wanted to use to restart my computer, and naturally I chose Tiger, not Leopard. My mac tried to restart and I got the apple logo and the little wheel spinning and then...off. Shut Down. Happens every time I hit the power button. Logo, wheel, off. I was on the phone with apple support for 2 hours and they sent me to a store finally. There they said it was a problem with file corruption on my computer. Not Leopard. They said they were having no problems with Leopard except for people trying to install it on an older model and similar issues. HELP!

    This doesn't sound good at all . . .
Did the Apple store test your power supply? It would be good
to know that the basic hardware functions properly.
And did you try booting from your Tiger install DVD? Assuming
you can get this far, run Disk Utility from the DVD and check the
disk - if it finds bad stuff on your disk, and can't fix it, you
probably do have a corrupted disk. The only solution may be to
reformat the disk - hope you had a backup copy . . .
A big guess on my part is this happened when you hit Cancel on
    the install.
If you have Apple Care (and everyone with a laptop should have
it), take it to the store, and let them fix it. You'll have a
nice, clean 10.4.10 on it (or Leopard if you want), and you can
    start over . . . :^(
    Good luck . . .

  • I have tried to install the upgrade to iTunes on my Windows XP system. It tells me that I have an older version of Bonjour on my system and that it can not remove it. I have also tried to uninstall what is on my system and it will not uninstall! Help?

I have an older version of iTunes on my system. I have tried to install the upgrade and it talls me that I have an older version of Bonjour and that it can not remove it. I have also tried to uninstall what is on my system and it will not do it. Help?

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another install. Does it go through this time?

Can anyone make sense of what I am saying and help me to get my iTunes back again?

Try a more recent version of my advice. The "for older video cards version" may work when the default version doesn't.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
