Trying to install a CD without CD Drive.... HELP!!

I have copied a CD onto my external hard drive to install on my macbook pro retina. How do I now open the files as if I have inserted a CD? None of the files will open as they are all weird formats... How can I install the software (virtual dj limited edition) onto my macbook using the CD info i have copied accross?? HELP :(!

Care to share which OS you are using and what the file formats are?
Why did you use a weird format?  Why didn't you convert to a Mac compatible format before copying to a CD?

Has someone found a solution which is not replacing the hard drive which works just fine? Or Is anyone aware of a procedure that can force the installation despite the S.M.A.R.T error? Below details of my hard drive

  • Trying to install iTunes, going to wrong drive and won't insall

Trying to install iTunes on my work laptop at home. I want it installed on my hard drive. I had loaded it a couple of weeks ago, and put all the tunes and folders on a network drive at work, called the j drive. Now, it seems to default to the j drive - when I try to install now, it errors out as invalid drive j:/ or whatever. I removed iTunes and deleted all the folders off Windows, didn't help.
How can I get it loading to the c drive instead of j? It doesn't give you a destination option when running it!

Well, finally stumbled on the answer, or at least I think the answer, in the installation problems tab on this site. I had to download tweakUI from Powertoys and relocate the default my music folder to the c drive from the j drive. When I reinstalled iTunes, I am able to unplug my computer from the network and still have iTunes come up and work. Which I couldn't do before.
It's also a fix for the error coming up at can't find my music folder.

  • Trying to install Windows 7 without Superdrive

It turns out that my superdrive kind of died, so I'm using an external optical drive. I tried to install Windows 7 from the DVD on my iMac 11,1 using Boot Camp, but after it created the partition and restarted my computer, all that I'd see was a black screen and an error: "No Bootable Device -- Insert boot disk and press any key".
I learned that it's almost impossible to install Windows from an external optical drive, so I created a bootable USB drive using an ISO image of my Windows 7 DVD (and only after doing a lot of tricks into the Boot Camp Assistant plist file). Then I did the same than before: Boot Camp Assistant, Install, Restart, black screen and error.
Then I installed reEFIt, so I pressed alt during the start screen and all that. I tried selecting the USB drive from there, but again I got the **** black screen.
Is there anything else I could try? And please, buying a new superdrive is not an option.
    Thanks in advance.

You're wrong. I've used the same DVD to install Windows on my iMac in the past, and it worked flawlessly.
Anyway, just to be sure, I downloaded a new ISO (yep, I checked and it was bootable) and tried to create a new bootable USB drive. It didn't fix anything.
I booted from reEFIt and there were several options. I selected bootmgr.efi and all I'd see was a black screen with a reEFIt error: "unsupported while loading bootmgr.efi". If I just select Windows from the USB drive I get again the black screen with the "No Bootable Device -- Insert boot disk and press any key" error.
I don't know where the issue is, to be honest. It looks like Apple messed up with the firmware and there is no easy way to boicot the need of a shi**y superdrive.

  • HT4904 Help. I have an older 20 inch iMac and had Lion running on it but the internal hard drive died. I'm trying to install Lion on an external drive but it doesn't look like Lion Recovery is supported. I have Leopard installed but am stuck.

    Hello,
My 20inch iMac's internal drive died and I'm trying to re-install Lion on an external drive. If I could get the Lion DMG file I think I'd be all set but am not sure how to do this. It doesn't look like the Lion Recovery feature is supported in my older iMac. And I have Leopard installed on the external drive but there's no AppStore to download the Lion DMG file.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    -Lee

Without a bootable backup/clone or a Time Machine backup of your previous Snow Leopard installation or a saved copy of Lion's install app, you'll have to upgrade your Leopard volume to Snow Leopard (10.6.6+) so you can waste another hour or more DLing the Lion thing again.

  • I tried to install 10.5 without success

I tried to install itunes 10.5 on windows 7, 64 bit without success, after reinstalling 10.4.1 itunes ignores my iphone. What can I do?

What kind of 10.5 disk did you use? If it was a grey system disk from a newer Intel-based Mac, that disk has no 10.5 code that a G4 processor can read and could leave you with what you describe.
I tried booting ........... from the usb 2.0 disk that's attached via a PCI card.
In spite of what Apple says (here), it's hard to find a G-series Mac that likes to boot from a USB device. Do you have one with FireWire connectivity? And some system software may have to load before the USB bus wakes up. You can try it on oneof the logic board 1.1 ports--has a better chance of getting a boot from there than a PCI card. But don't be surprised if it still doesn't boot.
The 10.5 installer requires a minimum 867 mHz processor and may look at something stored in ROM on the computer rather than actually polling the new processor before deciding if it can install. Although you have an upgraded processor, the installer may be reading the original specs off the Machine type code or other parameter that was not affected by the upgrade.

  • Trying to Install OS 10.4 - Can someone help?

I am trying to install a black DVD Mac OS X Tiger Version 10.4 that I received as a gift (person got tired of hearing me complaining about not able to used TurboTax with my present OS) on my 400 MHz PowerPC G4 (AGP graphics) that presently has Version 10.3.9 on it and I am having a problem with the installment.
Before I describe the problem here is a little more detail:
I have 512 MB memory and 13.31 GB available disc space and have unplugged the cable to my Zip drive.
Since my Mac did not come with an internal DVD Drive I purchased an external Sony DRX-830UL-T DVD/CD drive that is for Macintosh as well as for Windows OS. The DVD/CD has dual interface – iLINK/FireWire & USB2.0
The problem is that I cannot get the upgrade to work and I am wondering if anybody can assist me?
When I insert the DVD Mac OS X Tiger in my Sony drive it loads the install disc and I can see the “Install Mac OS X” icon as well as other items. When I click on the “Install Mac OS X” icon it goes to the Mac OS X Tiger screen with the Grey X and the words “Click the button below to restart your computer and begin the installation process”.
When I do that it restarts my computer and goes back to my login to 10.3.9 never starting the install process.
When I click on the “Optional Installs.mpkg” icon on the install disc it at least gets to the beginning of the installation but in comes back and states, “Mail cannot be installed on this computer. This software cannot be installed on this computer.” Even though I have Mail on my computer and it is functioning.
Is it a loss cause to try loading Tiger on my Mac G4?

OOPs, sorry, missed the Option key thing the first time you said it!
    Some things to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s, if so try...
    fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
Does it boot into Open Firmware with CMDOption+of ?

  • Stuck trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate on X120e (Help please)

I just got my x120e yesterday and it came loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium. Since my college offers free Windows 7 Ultimate I decided I would go ahead and install that, plus since I bought the computer used I figured that would be a good clean start. So I downloaded the software and used the windows tool to put the .iso file onto a thumb drive.
When booting the x120e with my thumbdrive inserted it goes into the windows installation guide. The problem starts where it asks how I want to do the install, Upgrade or Custom. From the directions online and using google it seems I am suppose to select 'Custom' install. Then it asks where I want to install windows: Disk 0, Partition 1(system_drv); Disk 0, Partition 2; Disk 0, Partition 3(lenovo_recovery). When you highlight Disk 0 Partition 1 or 3 it says 'Windows cannot be installed to ...'. Disk 0 Partition 2 includes the bulk of the storage size, but when I highlight that one and click 'next' it comes up and says 'Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information'. Also, I am unable to find anything called 'setup log' to get more information.
    * I did format the Disk 0 Partition 2 after it didn't work the first time
I decided from googling that maybe I needed to add a hard drive driver in order for it to work. So I went to the Lenovo driver page on my other computer and put that on the thumb drive and loaded the driver in the windows install wizard. This had no effect though and the problem is still there.
Given I've never loaded an OS before so I'm relying on online instructions and google. I have literally spent close to the last four hours working on trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate onto the x120e and am going to get some sleep and try again I guess.
    * I haven't changed the hard drive or anything, this is using the original 250gb hard drive it came with
UPDATE: after getting a reply to this question on another forum, they said  "Delete all the existing partitions you see. Start the install on the unformatted partition. You will lose your recovery partition (the lenovo setup with Win 7 Home Premium)."
So I did that and now the only line that shows up is Disk 0 Unallocated Space, 232.9GB.  However when I click Next the same warning appears as before "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition...".  Additionally the options of Delete and Format are no longer there, only Refresh, New, and Load Driver.  Any more help on what to do? thanks

  • Itunes not showing elements 11 drop down list of albums and won't sync, says ïtunes cannot sync, required folder cannot be found. ï have tried re installing both but no success. pls help!!!

Hi, Itunes won't sync my photos to ipad from elements 11. itunes doesn't show drop down list of albums and says Ipad "......cannot be synced, required folder cannot be found" i have tried re installing both programs but no luck. pls help!!!

I managed to finally fix the problem in a relatively painless way. It turned out that the problem wasn't on my phone, the problem was with iTunes. I completely uninstalled iTunes from my PC and then reinstalled it and everything was fine.
In order to completely uninstall iTunes, I did two things:
Used RevoUninstaller to uninstall iTunes. This cleans out a bunch of extra things that the normal iTunes uninstaller misses.
Searched for any iTunes folders/files on my computer (using the freeware utility called Everything) and deleted them manually.
I hope that works for you.

After many failed attempts this is what worked for me:
Step 1. Right click on your phone in the left hand side bar and select Back Up
Step 2. Restore your phone and use the option where you restore and update
Step 3. When its done it will ask you to use the back up you previously completed
    Hopefully this works for you!!!
