Trying to install app from App Store results in "An error has occurred."

I am trying to update TextWrangler in the OSX App Store application. Multiple attempts to update have resulted in the same error. This appears to be also happening with other apps (Pages, in particular), but for the moment I will keep troubleshooting localized to TextWrangler.
The basic symptom is that I try to update TextWrangler and receive a dialog stating "TextWrangler failed to download / Use the Purchases page to try again.". After I acknowledge the dialog I see "An error has occurred." next to the "Install" button on the purchases page. Further attempts receive the same error.
Initial attempts to remedy this have included deleting everything in $TMPDIR/../C, everything in /Library/Updates, ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist, ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist, Library/Cookies/com.apple.appstore.cookies, ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.storeagent, everything in Library/Caches/com.apple.storehelper/ as indicated in several forums offering help related to this problem. I have also tried completely removing the software (from /Applications) and installing from scratch; I get the same symptoms in this case.
As per https://discussions.apple.com/message/23951810#23951810, I have included a log file to (hopefully) help diagnose the issue. While I don't really understand much of the log output, I do find it interesting that at Apr 21 17:02:49 (when the download starts) you see many mathematically meaningless percentages displayed.
I very much appreciate in advance any help you can provide on this issue
The following log was created by:
1. quitting all applications
2. starting Console
3. selecting /var/log -> appstore.log
4. clicking "Clear Display"
5. starting App Store
6. clicking "Purchased"
7. clicking "Install" next to TextWrangler
8. waiting until the "TextWrangler failed to download / Use the Purchases page to try again." dialog appeared
9. quitting App Store
10. in Console, select all and copy/paste here:

Look in the Applications folder for the Mountain Lion installer. If you find it or a partial download, delete it and see if you can start the download again.

Hi. The two user tips both describe a sequence of steps that should get your library from the point where it threatens to wipe data from your device to where it is syncing normally, while recovering as much information as possible. It may still be necessary to wipe and reload the device but this should only take place once all the data that can be recovered has been recovered.
Doing step 1 of 8 and then complaining things aren't the way you want them to be yet strikes me as premature...
Since you appear to have all your media content, and we are discussing an iPod classic, not an iOS device, the main worries are already taken care of. What's left is ratings, playcounts, playlist membership and checked status. Since your device holds only part of your library at best you could only recover the missing data for the content that is on the device using third party tools.
Recreating the previous checked/unchecked status of every track in your library from where you are now may not be that easy. Syncing with selected playlists has many advantages, one of which would have been that you would have a named playlist that could have been retrieved by 3rd party software if you had used this method.
You haven't explained what caused your problem in the first place, but if you have a Previous iTunes Libraries folder holding old copies of your iTunes database (generated with each iTunes update) then it would be possible to restore the most recent of these and then update the library with any changes in your media folder.
BTW Apple doesn't offer free support for this kind of issue with iTunes.

    Hi!
I too faced similar difficulties when I was trying to get things goings (bb protect is still beyond me!)
So, if I might knidly have an addendum to the OP...... I had to try the different name dance also, and now have a pile of apps where i have to try to recall which name worked for that app, because as little  as an hour later, the id would be rendered ineffective.
Is there anyway to merge this dispirate IDs?
    Thanks for your time!

I'm here. I'm weird; get used to it.

  • HT3415 When im installing the bundle package, it says an unknown error has occurred. What do i do?

When im installing the iLife bundle package, it says an unknown error has occurred. What do i do?

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Boot camp error installing Windows 8.1 "An unexpected I/O error has occurred"

Well, just like it says on the title, when im going to install windows 8.1 in my MBP (late 2011 13" i7) it gives me a blue screen and the message
    "RECOVERY
There was a problem with a device connected to your PC
An unexpected I/O error has occurred
    Error Code: 0x00000e9
This problem can happen when a removable storage device is removed while it`s in use or is failing. Properly connecting any
removable storage and restarting your PC may fix this problem."
I dont have any peripherals connected to the MBP while restarting or booting windows installer....
Anyone had this problem while installing Windows?
Any tip of what to do??

If you tried to install Windows 8.1 and it failed at 73% then Windows 7 is lost if you did not create recovery disks.
Should you wish to install Windows 8.1 and you the Win 8.1 license key you could download and create a Windows 8.1 ISO and burn it to USB or DVD to reinstall on your computer.

  • LR 5.5 - Cannot export/publish to HDD or Flickr from video frame capture - "An internal error has occurred: assertion failed"

Basically as the title states, I cannot publish a set of photos that originated as video frame captures, whether to my hard drive or using a service plugin for Flickr. I have tried multiple publish service plugins for Flickr and everything fails precisely the same way. This only happens when I add photos to the collection that are JPG's derived from video, and it only started doing this recently. I have other frame captures that I uploaded just fine, but it appears that nothing from the set I worked on the other day wants to upload. Other NEF-derived photos from the same set work just fine.
All I get is a Warning dialog stating that an error has occurred while the main dialog stops on "Preparing to export...", then it kicks me back with no action taken when I click OK. The status in the upper left says "Updating Published Collections". If I remove the new frame capture photo, it works fine, but as soon as I add one to the collection, it fails to publish.
I updated from 5.4 to 5.5, tried new publish plugins, completely removed and recreated my local profile, reimported my catalog, all to no avail. Everything worked fine two days ago, then when I went to upload my latest edits yesterday, I started receiving the error and have had no luck fixing it.
I used debugView to capture a log as the error occurred, so I can provide that for a developer or support contact if required.
EDIT: I just tried choosing some different photos in the set, and most appear to work, so it is just some particular images that it does not like. I will try to narrow it down.
Message was edited by: Andrew Morton

I narrowed it down to one photo in particular that it does not like. It's not a deal-breaker, but I am still curious what is going on that is causing that one photo being in a set to break the publish process

  • App Store gives "An unknown error has occurred" when I try to log in

I know I'm using the correct username and password -- using a different one gives a password-specific error, and the username/password works correctly elsehwere.
I have applied all updates, and rebooted.
I just had my SSD replaced (got the machine back today), and the apple store put snow leopard instead of lion on it -- my lion upgrade was purchased in the app store previously. So, I currently have mountain lion on this machine.
    Thanks!

urgh... just noticed my previous post said i have mountain lion... i meant that i have snow leopard.  no idea why i messed that up!
anyway, i just tried reinstalling snow leopard from the usb key that came with the computer. Then, I installed software updates until it told me there were no more updates. After that, I tried the app store again, and it still is giving me the unknown error. really irked by that. may have to take it back to the apple store yet again, to see if i can figure out why the app store won't work.

  • TS1424 I have used itunes forever, now when I try to go to the itunes store, it says an error has occured error code 3212, how do I get back into the itunes store

I have used itunes forever, Sunday night when I tried to get into the itunes store an error popped up and said could not open; error code (-3212), How do I get back into the itunes store?

    Recovery Mode
    1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

  • Itunes could not connect to the Itunes store. An unknown error has occurred. (-3212). Help please!

I have tried many different things to solve this issue, but nothing works! I have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes as instructed by Apple support.  I have checked my firewall, but that wasn't the problem.  I have changed my proxy settings and that didn't solve the issue.  When I plug my Iphone into my laptop it doesn't detect my phone and when I try to check for updates a different error message occurs.  Please help!
