Trying to install google toolbar and it keeps bringing up Explorer instead
I have just picked up a new HP dm4 (and already regretting it but thats neither here nor there) and immediately installed Firefox. I tried to download google toolbar and it downloaded fine. When I go to install the toolbar it automatically brings up my Explorer and installs on Windows Explorer and NOT Firefox.
How do I get it to install on Firefox???
You need the Google Toolbar '''for Firefox'''.

My automatic adobe flash player installer tried to install google chrome and did not allow opt out
my automatic Adobe Flash Player updated tried to install Google Chrome without giving me the opporltunity to opt out?
I witnessed this myself two nights ago while testing an upgrade in Windows 7.
It HAS been reported to development, but... like 99% of the people here, we (myself and the MVP user who reported it) are just Adobe users like you, so reporting it with screenshots was the best we can do.
I use Chrome myself, but only for testing webpages I build, and I've never used their toolbar, because it's an open portal for malware... hence the report filed with DEV.
All we can do now is cross our fingers and hope they have it worked out by the next update cycle. -
Why does Flash try to automatically try to install google toolbar and Chrome
I am reaching the point where I will remove Adobe and adobe flash if they continue to automatically try to place google tool bar or google chrome on my machine. I have had to stop the download manually every time I do a adobe flash update because it tries to download the google toolbar or google chrome. I already have google chrome which I hate and use sparingly because of extensions like "Ace Race" which are invasive. I hate google's attempts to invade my space and spy. So why does Adobe keep pushing Google applications?
don't allow flash player to automatically update.
update manually after you tire of seeing warning messages about your flash player being vulnerable. when you update always untick tag-along ware, Adobe Flash Player Install for all versions
or use Adobe Flash Player Distribution | Adobe so you don't have to remember unticking the tag-along ware. -
Im never using chome and/ or google, but i liked adobe untill it started installing google every time it updated.
now, using adobe, i keep uninstalling chome and scroogle toolbar...
it took some time before i realized it also installed scroogle every time i update adobe. if i cant fix this, i will uninstall adobe, will never use adobe till its fixed.
can anyone tell me how to stop this, keeping adobe, or do i have to uninstall everythig adobe offers?
thanks for your repliesYou either have to uncheck the "optional" offers, or download the offline installers:
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)

I am not able to remove the 1-inch gap which came just after installing google toolbar. After that, I uninstalled Google Toolbar and Firefox respectively and then again, installed Firefox alone but the gap of 1-inch (1 row) remains just below the address bar of the browser. How to remove it?
Hi Danieldesira,
Thanks for the solution, it worked!!! I disabled extensions one by one except Google Toolbar. I observed that the gap was removed only after removing Norton Toolbar 5.6 version. For now, I have removed the toolbar of Norton but it seems necessary for security purpose. Can we keep it on and still hide since in the empty row it generates in Firefox is not showing a single button or anything else.
Thanks. -
Details: Firefox 5 deleted my Google Toolbar and Google sez I can't install the Google toolbar to Frefox 5 -- What do I do?
Extensions for Firefox, such as the Google Toolbar, include a list of compatible Firefox versions. Currently, the Google Toolbar only goes up to Firefox 4. However, people have tested and it actually works on Firefox 5, so there are two workarounds:
(1) Edit a file to revise the range of compatible versions
(2) Install an add-on that lets you ignore the range of compatible versions
This thread has info on both approaches: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/837142 google toolbar does not work with firefox 5.0. why not! | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help].
Any luck? -
Adobe staff, please confirm this behaviour...
Yesterday I downloaded Adobe Reader from http://get.adobe.com/reader/ for my freshly installed Windows 7
computer.
While installing Adobe Reader, the app also automagically installed Google Toolbar on my IE and Chrome on my computer.
While I have nothing against having a Google Toolbar or Chrome, the sneaky way they are installed bothers me...
That's the kind of thing that malware and spyware would do... not Adobe!
So can someone from Adobe please confirm that this is the behaviour of Adobe Reader? I'm beginning to get a bit concerned.
By the way, I did not see any opt-out box?
If there was one, then it's so well-hidden that I missed it!
Thanks."If you cared to Google, there has been numerous instances where users have complained that
bundled software were installed either:
1) Without their permission
2) The opt-out tickbox is unobvious to the user because of the form's vague design"
Without their permission??? Unobvious???
Are you serious?
Are you HIGH?
Are you that naive?
See the screen shot. There is a box to uncheck if you DON'T want the Google software. I've been in these forums (Reader, Acrobat, Flash Player, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks) since 2004 and have been fixing other people's computers since 2002. One of the STUPIDEST THINGS I've ever heard in all that time is "I don't have time to uncheck a box"...
from people who then have the time to:
investigate what installed that they DIDN'T uncheck thebox for...
research exactly where it came from...
then they come here...
set up an Adobe ID and log into the forum...
search for the right forum to post in...
and then proceed to spew out a lengthy verbose and intricate account of how they "got hijacked" by software they didn't have less than half a second to prevent installing by... wait for it... unchecking a little box WITH A SINGLE MOUSE CLICK.
I understand you're ticked off because you made a dumb mistake and I'm really sorry you feel that you were "taken advantage of" and had software installed without your permission after you FAILED to choose NOT to install it. But if you plan to continue using computers let me give you a piece of advice...
If you haven't read it... and I mean REALLY read it... DON'T click it. -
trying to sync iphone 4 and itunes keeps coming up with "itunes cannot sync apps to the iphone because the apps installed on the iphone could not be determined"?
Same issue. Is this a new bug with iTunes 10.5.1??
Anyone know of a solution?
I reported it to Apple on the feedback page, but, I'm pretty convinced that Apple doesn't listen to or read their feedback. http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html -

I tried to install Selenium IDE and I am getting the message:
'''Selenium IDE Java formatter could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 5.0''You can turn off compatibility checking, but more and more of the Google Toolbar will not work. Google is no longer supporting the Google Toolbar so you should use the alternatives.
Hi Mark,

The update for 5.0 came so quickly, that a very large number of the add-ons and extensions I use to keep it safe and operate the way I am used to are not working, the MOST important of these being Google Toolbar and McAfee site advisor. I am already using Chrome for work due to the known issues FireFox has with the Google Toolbar in 4.0, and although I am a HUGE fan of Firefox, this latest update that seems rushed just to meet a deadline set may be the straw the broke the Firefox's back!! Let me know what I can expect going forward
'''The Google Toolbar is no longer supported by Google in Firefox 5 and up''', you may be able to get what you want from it for a limited time, the directions to install the Google Toolbar were posted before Google actually announced dropping support.

Since you are or were working on Google Chrome, you already have a good idea of how you can use your browser without the Google Toolbar.
In any case you can find several alternative solutions, and you can start working on them now, see

I downloaded the newest version of Firefox and now the Google Toolbar is not working the same. Most importantly the PageRank indicator is not present. I've tried re-installing the Google Toolbar, and I've made sure the PageRank tool is activated. But with the new version the PageRank tool does not appear anywhere. Also, my other add-on Toolbar, LastPass has disappeared well.
I installed the latest addon from here https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/seo-status-pagerankalexa-toolb/
When I restarted Firefox 5.0 I then enabled the FILE, EDIT VIEW HISTORY etc bar. If you then then right click your mouse right next the the HELP button it brings up which tabs and toolbars you have enabled. Click on Customise. then find the SEO TOOLBAR in the list, and left mouse click on it and dont let go of the mouse click, drag it up to your customised toolbar area.
You will then see the SEO TOOLBAR icon in your customised toolbar. Click on this, and it will put the PAGERANK and ALEXA bars at the bottom right cornet of your firefox browsing window. Not sure if youll need to click that every time to get those 2 bars down there but at least this version works with Firefox 5.0
Best of luck!
