Trying to install Lion on newly acquired used MBpro... says my "ID has not purchased Lion" ... but I did!!!

Hello, just bought used macbook with wiped hard drive.  disk utility says everything looks good.  I've purchased mt. lion from app store a week ago, but this new machine says "that user ID has not purchased lion" when i try an install by signing in with my apple ID.  All my other macs show it as "purchased" in app store-HELP!!  I need to get up and running ASAP!

Is that Mac compatible with Mountain Lion? http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If not, it is trying to install the only version it can, which is Lion (10.7). "Lion" is not "Mountain Lion."
If you use Internet Recovery, it should install the OS it shipped with, without needing an ID. Hold down cmd-opt-r on boot and you should see a spinning globe in the center. That indicates it is booting to Apple's servers and you should be able to install whatever OS it shipped with.
This will not work if it is not Internet Recovery capable. In that case, you need the original install disks that shipped with that Mac. You'll install the original OS and update it to 10.6.8, then you can use the App Store to install.

  • Apple ID has not purchased LION

I bought my daughter a macbook air,  the prior owner had wiped the HD and told me to just do a restore and login with my apple ID after i bought Lion.  So i bought Lion 30 minutes ago,  now doing restore on my AIR and it still says ............ This ID has Not Purchased Lion
do i just wait longer for the purchase to get registered on servers or what?

Where did you purchase Lion? What are you restoring. You have to purchase Lion directly from Apple Customer Service. It is not available in the App Store. After you do get it you must install it. There is nothing for you to restore. You cannot use the seller's copy of Lion nor can you restore the seller's copy of Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
If you purchased Lion and/or Mountain Lion from the App Store for your computer, then you can install it on all the computers you own. But you must first purchase a new license for Lion or a license for Snow Leopard.

By OS X Utilities, do you mean Recovery? http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4718
Can you explain exactly what you did to erase the drive?
And, which Recovery were you in, regular or Internet? (internet recovery starts up showing a spinning globe).

  • ''This Apple ID has not purchased Lion"

    Hello,
Recently I wiped the whole hard drive on my mb374(Shipped with Snow Leopard) and tried to reinstall.
I press R+Command and get into the online restore or something, and an Apple ID is required in order to install the operating system. So I did type my account number and password and was informed that 'This apple ID has not purchaed Lion'. Before I wiped the harddrive the laptop ran 10.8. My apple id has purchased Lion on App store before and this laptop has upgraded from SL->Lion->ML. And I don't have anothe mac or the dvd of snow leopard that came with it.
    Any idea? Thanks!

    Hello,
Thank you for your reply! I have solved the problem by...Using my friend's apple ID
And after that I checked my purchases on apple app store and yes lion & mountain lion are purchased(0$ for ML)
don't know why this happened but anyway

  • MBP This Apple ID has not purchased Lion.

hi i bought a MBP of second hand and i restore and when i want to re installed the OS X mountain LION they need the apple id that was used to purchase "OS X Mountain Lion". so i dont know what to do because i bought to a friend that i cant contact to him, anyone can help me?

You will need to use a Snow Leopard retail DVD. If you don't have one:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Once this is completed you can download Mavericks from the App Store using your Apple ID and password.

  • "This Apple ID has not purchased Lion" - so I purchased it, but then still keep getting the same message...

    Hi,
I`ve got a MacBook Air with OS X Lion. Tried to update it, then it broke down.
On a restart I get the sound and the apple logo, then it whites out and nothing happening.
So I tried to reinstall Lion:
    Turn on
    Press Command+R
Go to Disk utility: Erase HD
    Join wifi
Go to Reinstall Mac OS X: choose drive, sign in to download from App Store...
And then boom: Got the error message above.
So I went online from a pc and purchased OS X Lion from App Store. When it arrived 3 days later, I tried to do the same steps, but I got the very same error message.
    Why???
What to do now to get it sorted?
    Thanks in advance. x

So I went online from a pc and purchased OS X Lion from App Store.
It's not possible to access Apple's App Store from a PC. Can you provide a link to the site you used?
When it arrived 3 days later, I tried to do the same steps, but I got the very same error message.
When what arrived? Lion and later can legally, and only be downloaded from Apple's servers.

  • ID had not purchased Lion?

When I try to install Mountain Lion, it says "this ID has not purchased Lion." But my Mac came with Lion. Any clues?

You need to clarify your statements. Please be specific about the versions. Lion is not Mountain Lion.
If you Mac shipped with Lion, and you are running Lion as indicated in your profile (10.7.x), then you must purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store if you wish to run Mountain Lion.
There have been reports of people who purchased Macs with Mountain Lion installed right when Mountain Lion was released. When they run internet recovery, it tries to install Lion because the database lookup tells the installer that is the version that was installed when shipped.
Which OS are you running, Lion (10.7) or Mountain Lion (10.8)?
Which OS was installed on your Mac when you purchased it, 10.6 (Snow Leopard), 10.7, or 10.8?

  • Re-install of Macbook Pro telling me I have not purchased Lion

I bought this macbok pro early 2012.
I erased the drive and now want to do a fresh install of Lion but it says that the Apple ID has not purchased Lion and that "You must sign in with an Apple ID that was used to purchase Lion".
I am however, using the right Apple ID. But it says I havent purchased Lion. Lion however came free with this machine?
I was running the latest version fine but now I need to pay for it to do the fresh install?
    Any advice would be appreciated.

Maybe OS X is a hidden purchase in your Apple ID, so Apple notes that you haven't purchased OS X, even if it came for free with the Mac.
If you could start in OS X, you could show OS X again to be able to reinstall OS X, but as you have already erased the hard disk, you can't do that. Have you got a backup you can restore onto your hard drive? If not, the only option you have is to contact with the Mac App Store support > http://www.apple.com/support/mac/app-store/contact If they don't do anything, take the computer to an Apple Store or reseller to get OS X reinstalled

  • "This Apple ID has not purchased 'OS X Lion'"

Hello, I recently wiped my hard drive and now when I get to the Mac OS X Utilities screen and try to reinstall my Mac OS X, it tells me that my Apple ID has not purchased Lion. When I first got this computer, I'm pretty sure it was running Lion, but I'm not completely sure. I just brought Lion from the apple online store in hopes that it would verify the purchase and l would be able to download fix my computer, but no such luck. Will I have to wait 1-3 days for it to actually ship before I can get on my computer again? Help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Lion is not Shipped. It is Download only.
Did you buy your Mac new or used?
If used then it came with an earlier version of OS X than Lion. More than likely Snow Leopard. If that is the case then you will need the original system reinstall DVd disc set that came with every Mac before Lion came out, mid (June or July) 2011.
They were packed inside the box the Mac came in. If you don't have them you can order a replacement set from Apple for a small charge.
    NOTE:
    YOU WILL NEED THOSE DISCS.

  • Trying to install Lion. says this disk is not enabled (journaled) - but when I look at the drive it actually is os extended journaled - Stuck! Have tried repair disk permissions and still no luck

trying to install Lion. says this disk is not enabled (journaled) - but when I look at the drive it actually is os extended journaled - Stuck! Have tried repair disk permissions and still no luck - any thoughts? Have spent two weeks trying to get apple support and itunes to help me get lion after a hard drive fail and now they are closed and I really just want to get moving!

Are you installing OS X Lion over an existing installation of Snow Leopard, or are you reinstalling?
First be sure you have everything on your system backed up. Then reboot with the Command-R keys held to get to the OS X Lion recovery volume. In here, select Disk Utility and use the First Aid tab in here to run a verification on your boot drive. If there are any errors, fix them and then try the installation again.
The next step would be to format the drive, so with your backup secured, use Disk Utility's Erase tab to re-format the drive to Mac OS X Extended (journaled), and then quit Disk Utilty and attempt the installation again.

Have you set both to never sleep?
Is the source (old) Mac's software up to date (including the Migration Assistant for Mac OS X Snow Leopard update)?
Is the old Mac healthy?  Have you run Verify Disk on it lately?
The estimates are wildly inaccurate under the best of circumstances.  How long has it been stuck?
