Trying to install mx100 ssd in flex 2 14in

hi,
Just recently bought the flex 2 14in (win8.1). i'm trying to replace the 500GB hdd with a 256gb mx100. i used he included acronis cloning software. i've try several other cloning software but nothing works. when i put the ssd in and boot. it just hang at the loading circle. i also try backing the restore partition to an usb. then using that to reset the labtop with the ssd. but it keep saying missing partition.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

ya it wasnt all that easy to open the back up the first time. but it'll get easier as some of the tap get broken.
just an update. I try using an intel 530 180GB on my other labtop. it manage to load into windows for about 2 minute then bsod. after the crash it restarted to the boot menu and did not detect the ssd.
cant seem to install a fresh copy of windows either.I can see a the ssd with all the partition at the select device for install. cant delete any of the partition or select them for install. if delete and initallize it as gpt or mbr on a different computer than put it back in. It would not be able to detect the ssd at the installer.
ps the mx100 is working fine in my y580 wins 7

I've read that you have do it through System Recovery

New disks Do Not contain Recovery partitions for OSX, your advice is incorrect. Check before you post next time.
The OP's machine may need to be reinstalled from discs rather than recovery, but without knowing the age of the Mac that is a guess.

  • Trying to install an SSD in a Pavilion 500-424 desktop

I am very disappointed that I just bought this desktop last month and I open it up to find no power supply,  no extra power cords for installing an SSD and only 2 SATA ports on the motherboard.
Does anyone know if I have any options ( other than buying another computer that's upgradable )?

    Hi,
You have purchased a low end, low power model PC that is not intended for upgrades other than more memory and a different hard drive. Your power is the 65 watt external power adapter and hence the reason why there is no internal power supply.
Create the external HP recovery media on USB flash (not optical).
Remove the optical drive and either buy an external optical drive or use an adapter. Not many people use optical drives these days.
Mount the SSD in the drive bay using a 5.25" to 2.5" adapter.
Another option is to return the SSD and exchange it for a hybrid hard drive.

  • I have an HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook PC that I'm trying to install an ssd

I recently bought an HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook PC, nice laptop. Anyway, I bought a samsung evo ssd, I bought the drive caddy for it online, but I can not get the laptop to see the drive. I pulled it apart 5 different times thinking that I messed up. But after all that I still can't get it to work. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GIGJYBG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. This is the drive caddy that I bought. I thought this was the right one, but I don't know. If anyone can help me, please respond to this post. Thanks

    Hello wily51501,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand your notebook will not recognize a newly installed solid state drive (SSD).
Are you checking in the system BIOS to determine if the drive is detected, or with the HP Recovery / Windows software? Sometimes it's as easy as enabling the drive in the BIOS. You can find information on this here, covered on step 7: Installing or Replacing a Hard Drive
Here is a great guide that walks you through upgrading to an SSD: HP SSD Upgrade Kit Installation Guide. Furthermore this Maintenance and Service Guide has some more specific information for your exact notebook. It could be that the caddy you purchased is defective if the BIOS does not recognize the drive.
Here is a document published by Seagate that talks about drives that are not detected:  The BIOS does not detect or recognize the ATA / SATA hard drive.
    Hopefully this information helps!

  • Kernel panic - trying to install a Samsung 830 ssd

    Hi everybody,
please forgive me for my poor English.
I'm trying to install a Samsung 830 ssd with an optibay on my MBP early 2011. The ssd works fine, and I get a Sata 3 speed connection.
The first problem I found was that Disk Utility wasn't able to initialize it! "Posix error: i/o error" or "unable to locate memory".
So I inizitialized it with MacDrive on windows xp on another pc.
Here comes the second problem: when I boot with my ssd on the optibay there's a kernel panic, but when I boot with the superdrive everything is fine. So what can I do? Thanks for your help!

There's an update: I uninstalled Parallels. Then I connected the ssd to my mac with a sata usb cable, and everything worked fine, I initialized it and I tried to copy some files and it was ok..
So I put it into my optibay and booted Osx, this time no Kernel panic!
But now there's a new problem: when I try to copy files or create a folder on the ssd I got error -50 can't complete the operation.. Both with finder and muCommander.
So what shuold I have to do now?
    I'm getting a little upset..

  • I have tried many times to install a SSD drive by using optical drive tray, my MBP is early 2011, intel serise 6,  checked on webpage, and someone say SSD could be installed on HDD drive, I guess it could be solved by driver, anyone good idea?

Hi, MBP friends, any ideas for this problem? I tried hard and checked the hardware we have, and it hardly to say the problem from hardware, instead I am thinking it could be solved by driver update, or someone who is good on computer language that could help with the problem.
My computer is early 2011, with intel serise 6 and sata 3 acceptable. I dont know why the opitical drive can not support ssd drive instead.
need help, I really dont want to put my SSD driver to HDD driver, and move HDD driver to optical driver.

well, i have got information from website, and it says it will be harmful to hdd driver set in optical area coz there is no vibration protection function.
i have checked the system, and it says the sata speed is the same 6G and chip intel series 6. it should be the same speed, right?
I am thinking that the chip is the same and mortherboard is the same, the cable is similar as well, why it doesnt work? driver issue? OSX issue? or software issue? firmware?
or simply to say, if i am trying to setup two ssd driver into MBP, it has to be one in opitcal driver area. how could work?
    thanks... still in puzzle.
right now, i have reinstall the osx into ssd by usb external, and install it back with opitcal tray, however, when i turn on the computer, the system can not be logged in from SSD, and computer can not read SSD driver, and it says it must be formatted or push out.

  • Need Help - Screwed Up GT70 Trying to Install SSD

I just bought a GT70-02C laptop, and tried to install a solid state drive as a caching drive which I couldn't figure out how to do.  In the BIOS I switched to RAID mode which gave me errors on startup, so I switched that back to normal, however now I cannot play any games whatsoever.  Yesterday I was playing everything on ultra high settings, now i can't play anything even on low settings without FPS so low it's unplayable.  Some games won't even start up.  I also cannot adjust brightness, it says the option is unavailable.
Any help on what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

  • Crucial MX100 SSD- Freezing in middle of my work ( MAC OS X 10.10.4)

    Hello
I have Crucial CT256MX100SSD1 (256 GB) installed on my Macbook Pro 2011 OS X 10.10.4 I have used optimal bay for my HDD and I used SSD on primary SATA port. I used a software to clone all my data from HDD to SSD. I didn't have any issues with the Crucial SSD till today. I bought the SSD about 3/4 months ago. I used it perfectly everything worked flawlessly and till today my laptop started freezing or stopping in middle of my work (browsing on internet mainly . or opening up many safari tabs) then I waited couple minutes but still no change so i decided to TURN OFF by holding down power button but after i turned off it still doesnt boot up properly.  My laptop get stuck on the APPLE booting page and it doesnt boot  up but eventually even the apple logo disappears and it freezes again in white screen. It doesn't turn or boot back on. I tried many different methods RESET PRAM , RESET SMC but it just doesn't start back up. But I waited couple more minutes then it managed to turn back on finally. This happened to me almost 2 times now in row today. I am very worried for my data to be lost and not retrieved on the SSD. Please help me to get this solved. I am very unhappy with the current issue i am facing. I've read many people are having this issue. Does anyone have any solution. Please please help  Model: Crucial_CT256MX100SSD1
    Revision:MU01Capacity: 245.07 GB (245,066,539,008 bytes)
    Available: 31.11 GB (31,106,969,600 bytes)

The drive was showing symptoms of Trim being turned off, combine this with the bug riddled MX100 MU01 firmware and that would make it difficult to have a stable Mac. Powering the drive off may have contributed to the problem of the Mac now not booting. Alternatively the MX100 has a hardware problem. Try the following: 1 Boot off your HDD with OS X 10.10.4 and the MX100 SSD connected as a secondary SATA drive. 2 Go to Disk Utility and see if you can Verify/repair the MX100 SSD. 3 Turn Trim on via the Trimforce enable command. 4 Backup your data. If you get this far, you should at least have your data. 5 Upgrade the MX100 to MU02, this is mandatory. 6 Test the MX100  7 Clean install with OS X 10.10.4. No need to rush this, you may consider a larger SSD as 31 GB is not much free disk space. Also OS X 10.11. is due for release which has improvements over OS X 10.10. http://www.macrumors.com/roundup/os-x-10-11/ Also note:  MacBook Pro Repair Extension Program for Video Issueshttp://www.apple.com/uk/support/macbookpro-videoissues/

  • Crucial MX100 SSD- Firmware update help

Hi guys, I have Crucial CT256MX100SSD1 (256 GB) installed on my Macbook Pro 2011 OS X 10.10.4I have an issue my laptop freezing when i open browsers or sometimes it does it randomly.  I wanted to know How can I update the MX100 FIRMWARE to MU02. currently i have the MU01 but i was told that in order to get rid of the freezing problem its better to update it. So i have downloaded the MU02.iso file. I tried to open it by disk utility and burn it from there but it doesnt allow. I have taken out my CD Drive and replaced it by the Optical Bay HDD and put the SSD in the main SATA. Can any one help me out to install the update without having to put back the CD DRIVE  ( superdrive) or something and can someone tell me if i update the Firmware to MU02 , woud that delete SSD Data and applications or what? Lastly, if the MX100 SSD is faulty, can i return it to the Crucial and have it replaced by the MX200? or something better by paying the differences? Somone please let me know. Thanks

We are using a Lenovo preload of Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. We currently have 5 Lenovo X230 2324CTO laptops and all of these laptops have the same problems.
One of these problems is that when coming into the office and they put there laptop into the Lenovo dockingstations and power up the laptop that when logged in the OS no program is able to load. There sometimes is a delay in this problem that for example they are able to open Outlook or a website but then no program is able to load. As I described earlier the animation for opening a program will occur on the bar but it will quickly just fade away. Also shutting the laptop off is not possible. It is possible to open the charm bar in Windows 8 and go to the shutdown option but on clicking the computer does nothing.
Another problem is that the user is stuck on the login screen of Windows 8 simply saying Welcome with a loading circle which never stops.
Only a forced shutdown (holding the power button for aprox 10 seconds) and restarting the laptop will make the laptop work again when either of these problems occur. These problems occur on random days. As I'm in the IT Team I know when a problem occurs and it can vary to a few days, every day or a few weeks even before it starts to show up again.
I also checked the users and there behaviour in using the laptop but I cannot find any strange behaviour at all. As i also stated before we are running on every update that Lenovo System Update 5 can trow at us. I also installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology the newest version in hopes of fixing some of the problems.
    Thanks for the support.

  • Error trying to install Win 8.1 x64 Enterprise

Brand new iMac 27", fully loaded, 1 TB SSD, 32 GB RAM, running Mavericks 10.9.3.  Trying to install Win 8.1 x64 Enterprise (from MSDN).
Downloaded the ISO file and license and used Boot Camp to install the files and Apple Support files to a 16 GB USB 3.0 thumbdrive.
Used Boot Camp to repartition the 1 TB SSD to set a Windows partion of 256 GB, then the computer rebooted into Windows Setup.
Came to the drives listing, selected the BOOTCAMP parition (Drive 0, Partition 4, 239 GB) and formated it, then clicked on NEXT.
Thought for a while, then it came up with this error message:  "We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose.  Please check your media drive.  Here's more info about what happened:  0x80300002"
Got some hits on Google about issues with VISTA, or with Intel processors, but, nothing specific.
Checked USB thumb drive with Norton, no issues, CHKDSK, no issues.
Have repeated the entire process twice, including restoring the patition and recreating it, and rebuilding the USB Thumbdrive.
Any ideas on what to do?
    Thanks!

More sadness.  I finally started getting the BSOD as soon as Windows booted, and, I could not restart or shutdown the computer...had to power off.  That, after a few times, corrupted my BootCamp partition.  I messed around with trying to fix, but, no joy.
Redid the partition, checked all drives for errors (fixed permissions on the Mac HD...LOT of errors), and created a new partition.
Used USB 2.0 (VERY SLOW) thumbdrive and had all external drives removed, and installed Win 8.1 Pro, not Enterprise this time.
Got it back up, patched it, configured it, put Norton 360 on it (have on all my computers and iOS devices) shut down, and hooked up the external drives.  Booted up and...got the BSOD.
This time I had Windows Debugger loaded, and after the BSOD could reboot, go back intoWindows, and Debug.
Culprit seems to be Norton--in particular a Norton Storage driver.  Will be contacting vendor to fix.

  • Trying to switch to SSD, not working at all.

So I have an A1278 Macbook Pro from Late 2011 with a 2.3ghz i5 and 16gb of ram running OSX 10.9. I also have an MCE optibay in place of my disk drive. I use this setup at a recording studio running Logic off my system drive and record to the drive in the optibay so I don't get any "disk too slow" errors or whatever in logic.
    Anyway...
I wanted to put my 1TB HDD into my optibay, and put a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD into my main drive bay. First I formatted thr drive to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) in disk utility, then I tried cloning my drive in disk utility to which I got a "disk too small" error and several "invalid argument 22" errors. (Note my 1TB drive only has 90GB's of used space on it) I then tried a fresh install of Mavericks onto the SSD and restoring from a Time Machine backup. No such luck. It would be stuck at 0.2% and then "Time Remaining" would keep rising until it would stop and ask me to restart. Everything up to this point was happening in recovery mode btw. I then tried moving all my old files onto this fresh install on the SSD with Migration assistant. This appeared to have worked. The computer booted and I got this amazing SSD speed everyone was talking about. Until finder continued to close and not function properly over and over and I had to force shutdown. Back into recovery mode I went. Tried to repair disk with disk utility. and I got a "Disk utility can't repair this disk, please back it up and restore" error, and the log showed some red text about invalid node structres. So, did I miss a crucial step that one has to undergo before using an SSD? Some sort of magic SSD button in disk utility that I forgot to toggle? Or do I have a faulty drive? Right now I'm booted using the original 1TB disk in my Optibay. Any thoughts?

    Hey Clinton
I guess i'm so stuck with the SSD that i have purchased.
    Here is the details:
    SSD - Samsung SSD 840 Evo 250GB
    MacBook Pro - 13-inch, Mid 2012
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro9,2
Processor  2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
    Boot ROM Version: MBP91.00D3.B08
    SMC Version (system): 2.2f44
I was running with the factory HDD (toshiba 500gb) and thought of replacing it with an SSD . Tried a clean installation of mavericks at first using Bootable USB drive having mavericks. So i went on and installed the ssd replacing the HDD i had and went on to boot up from the USB, prior the installtion i tired to partition it first with single partition MAC os extended journaled with GUID table. But then it did partition but after that it says trying to reinitialize the drive and it never came back although i tried more than five times. So then i went back to my HDD and tired cloning it to SSD using Carbon Copy Cloner, but even for that i had to do the partitioning which failed. Finally i had to go and return back that peice and they gave me another one convincing me that it might a defective peice.
Now, with the second one, at first i booted up my HDD normally and connected the new SSD the USB/sata converter and i successfully partitioned and using carbon copy cloner, i have cloned as well. Now to make sure if its all ok, before replacing the HDD in the main compartment, i just selected the startup disk as the new SSD and restarted the system... it booted up fine like a cheetah... was all gud... i thought everything is pretty fine. Then ofcourse i went ahead and replaced the HDD and powered up the system again, but then it's not booting up... it gives you that folder with ? mark and that's all...
And then i tried some other ways too... i even checked the firmware versions and i guess they are upto date as well. I just dont get the reason why it's not working.
    Please help me.
    Anjillan
so should i return and buy crucial now..???

  • I am trying to install Boot Camp but it says I haven't got enough free space to make a partition, however in disk utility it says I have 27GB free!

I am trying to install Boot Camp but it says I haven't got enough free space on my start up disk - that I need at least 10GB free space - however in disk utility it says I have 27GB free!

if your SSD is only 60 GBs, then you don't have space on which to install Windows. That 27 GBs is space you need to have for adding files you create, music you download, added applications, pictures, etc. You need to maintain at least 10 GBs as free space for OS X, plus you need space for files OS X will create and add to over time.
Your 60 GB SSD is just a minimum usable size for OS X. There isn't sufficient space to also support Windows which requires close to 25 GBs of the 27 GBs you still have free. Sorry, but that just doesn't really work well.

  • Trying to install Windows on a partition of second internal HD

    Hello,
As the title mentions, I'm trying to install Windows on my iMac 11,1 in which I've swapped out the Superdrive for a SSD.
My current setup is with 10.8 boot drive + recovery partition on the SSD and an HFS+ data partition on the second drive (HDD).
What I would like is for the SSD to contain the same partitions, but for the HDD to also include a bootable Windows partition.
    Two problems with this:
    1. The computer won't boot from a USB drive so I can't make a proper installer (out of the legal Windows 7 .iso I have).
The two ways around this I have read about (and tried) are to use virtualization to convince the installer it's running from a CD and not an .iso and to put the install files on a separate bootable partition of the internal drive. I managed to use Parallels 8 to install Windows 7 to a second partition on the HDD (though it couldn't make some writes due to security issues), but couldn't make it bootable. I tried making a hybrid MBR (using gdisk) on the HDD before installing Windows 7 to the partition, which made it bootable, but Windows got stuck before it loaded. This leads into problem #2.
    2. The HDD doesn't know how to boot itself. My suspician is that the bootloader and/or BIOS emulation code (I don't really understand how this works) doesn't exist on the HDD. I have no idea how to fix this issue.
Any help would be appreciated in getting this to work. I'm familiar with the command line, so don't be afraid I'm going to wimp out if you ask me to use it.

My understanding of how Bootcamp works is it creates a hybrid MBR that uses GPT in each section.
I tried last night to install Windows using Parallels 8 on a partition of my SSD created by the Bootcamp Assistant. However, Windows still wouldn't boot. I then tried to edit the MBR myself using gdisk, leaving me with the windows partition not even showing up in in the UI after I hold option at startup.
