Trying to install new hardware, it comes with a mini CD. How to load it?

I just bought a memory card reader/writer for my imac. It doesn't have a plug and play feature (maybe that is for Window only?) when I plug it in. The hardware came with a CD to install it, but it's a small CD; it's about the size of a mini DVD that you may have in a camcorder. I tried to put it in the computer, but it got stuck since the DVD/CD drive is vertical on my computer. It wouldn't pull it in b/c it was too small. Has anybody ever dealt with this? Any idea of how to figure this out? TIA.

You may have to see if you can use some other Mac with a tray-load
optical drive, and email the file to your other mac or use Firewire cable.
With a google mail account, the file size is up to 20MB per email. Or,
if you really need this software, use any computer with a tray load
optical drive and burn the file to a CD-RW disc (for one-time use; so
you can reclaim the disc for something else, later.)
There may be a procedure in the use of the card reader which is not
being followed. I have never needed a driver for a card reader in Mac
OSX. You should be able to see a memory card in the reader, if you
put the card in the reader first, then attach the cardreader to the Mac.
If this works, be sure to dismount or eject the item from the desktop
prior to detaching the cable to the card-reader. I have two card readers
and one likes me to put the media in the slot of the reader first, then
attach the cable to the computer. The other one, works both ways. I
found they both work better if I put the card into the reader and then
plug the reader into the Mac. (One is a 5-in-1; the other is a direct USB.)
You may also be able to get the reader's driver software (if new enough)
from the manufacturer's web site; if not, email and ask if they have an alt-
-ernative way for you to get this software. I suspect it may not be necessary.
There are some times, too, when the reader is defective & you need another.
