Trying to Install on a weird machine, need FB [UNSOLVED]

I have a rather old system I want to install Arch on, and it has a built in video card that it has to use. The problem is that the video card doesn't support a standard linux console well, and the text is all distorted. This normally isn't a problem because it does support framebuffer mode quite well. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like there is an option for using a framebuffer on arch install disks. Any suggestions?

Yeah I tried that that. arch vga=(whatever the number combination for 1024 is).
Didn't work. I absolutely love arch, my favorite distro I have tried in years. The limited installer, however, caught me off gaurd. I come from gentoo who didnt even have an installer really forever, so its not that I need a gui, but its almost as if the installer restricts a person too much. For instance, on one box I installed, arch didn't quite detect my device order correctly for grub. So it was trying to install the boot loader, using hd2 when it was really hd1. There was no way for me to get a grub prompt, and when I accessed it from the command line, the block devices weren't mapped to my fresh install yet. I had to fiddle for like 30 minutes before I decided to manually copy contents from arch's /dev directory into the new install /dev directory, chroot in, then rerun grub to install.
Not a big deal, but the hassle could have been solved with a simple grub prompt menu option with all their cleverly mapped devices. (yeah there was probably even an easier way around this, but its beside the point) Now the lack of framebuffer option is getting me. Its not even a tough thing to include, but its absence is causing unneeded effort on my part.

"Installation Failed" when trying to install CS6 on a machine that has

I am trying to install CS6 and keep getting "Installation Failed" error. I have restarted. Quit all applications. Uninstalled old versions of CS (Except CS5).

Disaster trying to install Lion - hard disk "locked" - need help.

Tried installing Lion on my mac mini. It's a 2009 model that runs Snow Leopard. Downloaded the Lion installer, started the installation process, it rebooted and reached the stage where I needed to choose the target hard drive.
Only one problem - it reports the hard disk is "locked", and is unclickable. I tried the "sudo chflags nouchg /" trick but to no avail. Used the mount command to check for problems, and sure enough the mac mini's HDD is mounted read only. I have no way of unmounting and remounting it as the system doesn't allow me to unmount the drive - says it's in use.
This is a stock Snow Leo installation from a legal DVD, and a legal paid download of the Lion installer through the app store in case there are questions about that.
Has anyone else faced this, and how did you solve this problem?

Replying to myself. Here's what happened now:
The last time I tried upgrading SL to Lion, I downloaded it from the AppStore and ran the installed from Snow Leopard. That's what got me to the "disk is locked" brick wall.
This morning, I burned InstallESD.img to a DVD and tried installing from DVD, and guess what? The drive is not locked any more and it appears to be installing. I will update you folks when it's successful.

I lost Firefox when I tried to install Firefox 4. I need a download link to the older version in order to use Firefox. My laptop is a Mac OS X Version 10.4.11.

My computer is a Mac OS X Ver. 10.4.11. Firefox 4 is not compatible with this version, but the older application was overwritten when I downloaded Firefox 4. Is there a link I can use to download an older version of the app that is compatible with my computer?

CD Boot: memory overflow error! Trying to install Bootcamp / Windows 7 on MacBook Pro 2009 with external superdrive

Hi all,
I'm trying to install Bootcamp on my machine.
I was running Parallels before but need Bootcamp in order to run heavy software on the PC side (e.g. Rhino/Maxwell/etc).
I have a Macbook Pro 17" from around 2009, running Mountain Lion 10.7.3.
Problem is, my internal CD Drive is broken and doesn't read discs, so it couldn't read the Windows installation disc (Windows Home Premium 7 64 bit - OEM System Builder Pack).
So, I rang Apple to try to fix it and they said it would be cheaper and faster to buy an external SuperDrive.
I explained that I wanted it to install bootcamp and they said, fine.
However when I bought the SuperDrive, it turns out its only supposed to be working with new Macbook Pro with Retina display, and other machines that don't have internal cd drives.
At first it didnt work, but then I found a helpful website which enabled it to work on my machine.
So I went ahead and started installing Windows through the BootCamp Assistant.
It partitioned my hard drive - success!
But then it turned into black screen, with message saying "CDBOOT: Memory overfloor error"
Help please!!!
I suspect the problem is either:
a) Old Macbook Pro can't boot from the Windows disk
or
b) The Windows OEM version is somehow not designed to work with Mac. I bought it secondhand off a guy, thinking it was the full version, silly thing to do!
Your thoughts and help is seriously appreciated!
Tomorrow I'm going to the Apple Store and also to buy a brand new copy of Windows, I guess.

This has been resolved. It turned out that in spite of the message at the end of installation - "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer restart the installation" Windows was installed successfully but the problem was the Bootcamp drivers, it could not read them(install them) from my original OSX Istall DVD and I thought that that the whole package was not installed successfully. I will copy the intructions here as well since this thread may attract lots of other people with similar problem who may think it was not a good installation. Here you go:
Ok, after 3 sleepness nights I have found a solution and finally have a working Windows 7 Ultimate. I hope this will be helpful for everyone having similar issues and not have to go through the same nightmare.
Right away after logging in Windows for the first time insert the original Snow Leopard Install DVD and if Windows does not read it or install any drivers after clicking on setup.exe do the following:
Right-click on Start » Programs » Accessories » Command Prompt
Select Run as Administrator
Type cd /d D:, then press Enter
Type cd Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple, then press Enter
Type BootCamp64.msi, then press Enter
If you do not how to right click before installing the drivers the following:
Click on Start
Enter cmd in the search box
Instead of hitting the Enter key use Ctrl + Shift + Enter and will open a dialog box
Click Yes at the prompt and you will be running as an administrator.

Right click the Live Messenger icon in the system tray where you see the clock and choose Exit.

Resources have been modified while installing application from windows machine?

Hi,
I am trying to install application from windows machine, but it gives me reources have been modified everytime. Can someone let me know how to avoid this problem?
I have tried the iTuneswork without extension way but still I am getting the same error. I really dont understand what this error is about. It would be really nice of someone to guide me on this.
The OS version on the device is OS 3.0.1 and itunes version on windows is 9.0.2.
Please let me know what this issue is about.

Hi,
Its strange that no one turned with any answers. Anyhow, the issue has mostly been resolved. There are some file names which were getting modified in windows and not in MAC system.
Just in case anyone facing the same issue please check the file name of the resources you added.

run the cleaner (Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs) and then retry installing.

I don't have proof of purchase.. all I kept was the two cd's and the instruction book.I bought it in June of 2008, and don't think I have bank records that far back.I was hoping I could get the information from my installed copy.. there a long number on the bottom rightwhen I open it, but that didn't work and a number etched on the back of the cd... but it too didn't work....

It is not viewable on your old computer. We may be able to get you a replacement serial number. Do you still have your proof of purchase for Photoshop Elements 5?

Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.
