Trying to install Overdrive Media console

Downloaded this file from the library. When I try and open the file i get a message unable to find default app.
The file is    .msi

@allanmack I am a librarian and I provide support regularly for various ereaders and tablets.
I am sure you misunderstood. The app in Appworld is what you need.
The PlayBook app works much like the iPad app. You get books from within the Overdrive app on your tablet. You go to your library ON THE OVERDRIVE APP, and enter your credentials.
After you install Overdrive via App World, open it and swipe down from the top.
Select "more options" "help" "download ebooks"
You don't download adobe digitial editions - you enter your id in the Overdrive settings. Read the help I referenced above.
Overdrive is all you need to open library books on the Playbook.

  • How do I install overdrive media console?

I have a Mac with OS 10.9.2. I followed the library instructions: 1. Create an Adobe ID; 2. Tap the App store ; tap the search bar in the top right corner and enter OverDrive Media Console; then tap the blue SEARCH  on the keyboard. THERE IS NO BLUE SEARCH ON THE KEYBOARD. I tried Enter, but the answer is "Your search found no results".

You will need an application that is compatible with the Palm OS. I looked on that site you provided and I didn't see an application for the Palm OS. It looks like that is a Windows desktop program only.
You can look for ereaders for the Palm OS by doing a google search for that type of program.
Mobipocket reader is compatible with the Palm OS.

  • Overdrive media console on Bootcamp Windows?

I am getting an error while trying to install overdrive media console (Windows) on the Bootcamp part of my MacbookPro. I had downloaded a file called "overdrive media console setup.msi" from overdrive media website. The installation keeps on hanging up with the error message that "the file overdrivemediasetup.msi which is on a network resource is not available". I keep on pointing out that file on the desktop but the error continues. Any inputs to get this resolved will be appreciated.

quick update it turns out that the 9320 runs on os 7.1 and this os is not compatible with a lot of apps

  • Need help downloading Overdrive Media Console to access pub library book

Trying to download Overdrive Media Console to access public library book
    Thank you

Jeff, I'm pretty sure I activated Bluefire directly on my iPad.  Quite a time ago now, so I may have remembered wrong.
Overdrive partner with most of the UK public libraries for DRM loans.
I also only just realized Bluefire can download the .epub from the .acsm file, so no need for ADE at all.
I don't usually use my iPad for ebooks (much too heavy), so hadn't really used Bluefire that much.
I still need ADE to get the .epub so I can download it to the (Sony) eReader.
Anyway, it looks as if original poster is happy

  • I just installed the latest version of iTunes to my windows 8 computer.  I was downloading audiobooks through overdrive media console just fine until I downloaded this new version. It says it has been transferred but it's not in my iPod. Help!

I just installed the latest version of iTunes on my windows 8 computer.  I was trying to transfer an audiobook I downloaded through overdrive media console to my iPod nano. Overdrive says it was transferred successfully, but it is not in my iPod.  I have had no problems transferring audiobooks until I downloaded this new version.  Help!

I just realized that part of my post got cut off.  There was a message that i could not connect to the Apple store (and my genius stopped running).

How to download ebook fr. Public library? Tried downloading but ipad2 is not wma supported.

Note comment about Macs and MP3 in intro below.
Many libraries worldwide now use Overdrive Media Console, which comes in Mac an Windows versions http://www.overdrive.com/Software/omc .  Some find the mobile device transfer process confusing.  To load or delete a WMA or MP3 (Macs can only download MP3 books) audiobook onto an Apple mobile device see the "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" video in the guides at Step 7, then do the following.
    1. For Windows versions, you must first do a security update of Windows Media Player (even though you won't be using it) using Internet Explorer at http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite .
    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab.
    4. Highlight the book you want to transfer in the Overdrive Media Console and click the Transfer Button.   A window opens permitting you to click the boxes for parts of the book you wish to transfer.
    5. After the book has been transfered, when you click the disclosure triangle (arrow) to the left of the iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes, MP3 books will show up under the Music subsection and WMA books will show up in the Books subsection.  Once the mobile device is disconnected from iTunes, MP3 books will show up in the Songs list of the mobile device and WMA books will show up in the Books list.
    6. To remove a book from a mobile device plug the device into the USB port and open iTunes. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in the Device section of the left hand menu of iTunes so that you can see the device’s subcontents. For an MP3 book select the Music subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.  For a WMA book, select the Book subsection, right click on the book and choose Delete.
    7. The Overdrive Media Console Guided Tour (videos) is at http://www.overdrive.com/Solutions/Libraries/tour/MenuWelcome.html .  The "Portable Devices" and "How to Transfer to a Portable Device" videos are there.
    8. To find a nearby library for ebooks search http://search.overdrive.com .  You can download the software, search for books and see tutorials without an account at the website of any library that uses Overdrive, however, you need a library card to download books.  At this library site, for example, the software and guided tour are at the bottom of the left hand menu.

I am getting this error message - Error 0x80004002 - when trying to transfer an audio book from OverDrive Media Console.  It was working a couple of weeks ago.  It keeps telling me to downloan iTune9.0.2 (or newer) but I have the most up to date version of iTunes.  Also tells me the device is not connected, but it is.

The publisher of the book seems to have restricted copying of the book on to other devices. Contact the book distributor.

  • Trying to download books from overdrive media console and getting the this

Trying to download books from overdrive media console and getting the this error
For this apple device transfer wizard requires the itunes option “manually manage music (and videos) be enabled. To enable this option, view, summary ‘information about your device in itunes and place a checkmark next to option “manually manage music (and videos)

I don't know if I already asked the question so here I go again. I have previously downloaded public library audiobooks thru overdrive media console successfully hundreds of times on old ipod touch.  I just got another Ipod touch and I must have pushed wrong button somewhere because when I try to transfer the title from overdrive media to ipod a box pops up saying...
The selected portable player (ipod) could not be found.  I have set my new ipod to manually manage music and videos which is required.  Don't know what to do at my wits end.  Went to local apple store but they couldn't help me because third party is involved please help before I hurt someone lol

  • HT201272 I seem to have a version of overdrive media console that does not support wma audiobooks files. Is there anyone with this problem with a solution.

I recently installed the overdrive media console.  I was able to down e books and mp3 books but when I tried to down wma books. A message flashes out that the omc that I installed from the apps store is unsupported format.  The version of omc does not support wma audiobook titles.  Any suggestions.
    Daphne

WMA stands for Windows Media Audio...it is a Microsoft audio format that is not supported on the Mac or iOS version of the apps.   If you want to use the WMA audiobooks, you will have to use the Windows desktop app.  You can use MP3 audiobooks on any version of the app.

  • Overdrive Media Console for IPod

I have a 2nd generation Ipod toubh 9GB. I have been able to download books from my library straight to the Ipod via Overdrive Media Console. I have been able to download and play the books just fine. The only thing is that no matter which book I am listening to playback stutters and stops continuously after about 15 mins. I wrote Overdrive support and they told me to reboot my Ipod. I have done this several times but to no avail.  I thought it may be that snooze was enable so I tried to check snooze for 90 mins but still after 15 mins playback stops and my place is not saved either.  I am wondering if anyone else has encoutered this problem.
    Thank you,

yes, yes, and yes. Now it's worse. when the display goes in stand by it shuts down. I am now installing the latest iphone version and seeing if it helps. I have gone to getting audible books.
What's changed is that i got an ipad and kindle and am syncing between devices for books from amazon.
On i side note why i am not running latest version of iphone. I stayed away from syncing or upgrading the iphone from laptop because of previously losing all data. Apples  answer was that I should use more than their itunes software for backup since they don't maintain multiple versions. (during version upgrade the backup it took was corrupted thereby losing data of last good backup) so any istore app that had data was lost.

  • Transferring protected WMA audiobooks to iTunes/iPhone using OverDrive Media Console

    Hi there,
My local library is now offering audiobooks. I have downloaded one, that went fine - I have the file and can listen to it. The problem is that I can't seem to transfer the WMA Audiobook to my iPhone using this software they provided (OverDrive Media Console), even though their website says that it can be transferred to apple devices (including my iPhone) and the library site says that this particular audiobook is permitted to be transferred to apple devices (including the iPhone).
When I try to Transfer using the OverDrive Media Console, I get this error:
"The OverDrive Media Console Transfer Wizard is not able to connect to iTunes. If you intend to transfer content to the iTunes Library and/or a supported Apple device, please note that iTunes v9.0.2 (or newer) is required. iTunes is available as a free download from Apple; visit http://www.apple.com/itunes/download to download iTunes. If your system meets this requirement, please close any open iTunes dialog boxes then attempt to transfer again."
I have read that others have had the problem, but there are few solutions emerging, from what I can see anyway.
I have went to this website (http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/indivsite) in my Internet Explorer browser and upgraded the Windows Media Player security version. OverDrive says my security upgrade version is 2.9.0.1.
My iTunes is up to date as far as I know. iTunes 10.4.0.80. Perhaps the recent update is something to do with this problem? I don't know. I am using Windows 7, and the OverDrive Media Console version is 3.2.0.5.
I have changed my iPhone settings to "Manually manage music and videos", as OverDrive requests this.
When I try to put these protected WMA Audiobook files into my Automatically Add to iTunes folder, I get an error message saying:
"One or more of the songs being added are in the protected WMA format, including the song "examplesongname01.wma", and could not be converted.
iTunes can only convert unprotected WMA songs. If you have the original CDs for these songs, you can import them using iTunes."
I have restarted iTunes, OverDrive Media Console, and my computer countless times. My home network sharing is turned off; I mention it as I saw someone had suggested that as a solution.
The two suggested solutions I haven't tried yet are:
    - convert them to MP3
    - uninstall and reinstall iTunes & OverDrive Media Console again.
I don't really want to uninstall iTunes. I have a lot of music and audiobooks; it takes half aday for iTunes to load them all up again. As for converting to MP3s; I don't know if this is legal. Plus, I don't know if these protected DRM files can be converted like that.
Ok, well I hope someone else was in the same boat & solved it. Otherwise it'd be a real shame if we couldn't get these protected WMA audiobooks onto our iPhones.
    Hope you can help.
    Thanks.

Once you have downloaded the audiobook to Overdrive Media (OMC), you need to connect the Apple device to which you wish to transfer the ebook, then use the transfer button on OMC.  That converts it to an mp3 file.  The ebook cannot be transferred to iTunes.  iTunes is simply the medium used in the transfer to an Apple device.  The tutorial below covers all the specifics.

    2.  Open iTunes, plug the mobile device into the computer USB port and open the Overdrive Media Console.
    3. Highlight the mobile device in the left hand menu of iTunes and insure the "Manually manage music and videos" box is checked in the Summary Tab. If the mobile device storage is full, transfering will delete that portion of music necessary for the ebook.

  • Overdrive Media Console devise sync

    Hi there,
Does anyone know if Overdrive Media Console can automatically sync ebooks from my Public Library between my iPad and iPhone.  Do I have to check out two copies from the library, or can I download one copy and sync between my devices?
    Thanks,
    Rob.

No I did not.  There is no obvious way offered in the user interface, so even if it is possible, it might as well not be there.  Although I've been happy with having access to eBooks from the public library, the Overdrive Media software is poorly designed.  It's clear that nobody who worked on this at Adobe has actually tried to browse, check out, and read an eBook from the public library on a regular basis.
