Trying to install RAM, bottom panel is impossible to unscrew

I just bought 8GB of RAM from Crucial for my 13" MacBook Pro.
I am unable to unscrew the bottom panel to install the memory. So far I've destroyed 3 screwdrivers just trying to unscrew 1 screw. I've used Philips 00, as well as 0 for good measure - the screws aren't budging.
I've called several local Apple Stores, and they all refuse to help me because I did not buy the RAM directly from them.
This is kind of silly - what am I supposed to do?

I would suggest that you get better screwdrivers. I have upgraded the RAM and hard disk in my 2007 MacBook Pro and the only issue I had was when I first tried to use a Phillips screw driver to unscrew a Torx T-6 screw. I've been using this set of screw drivers since the 1980's or 1990's. I own some Snap-On drivers, some Wiha (German made) drivers, and some cheap drivers I got from an Ace Hardware discount bin for $4.95 (fro the Torx T-6 driver).

Hi. I am trying to install the watermark panel plugin. I installed the extension manager, and when I tried to install the plugin, the extension manager said I don't have the latest version of photoshop. I thought when you paid into the creative cloud you get all the latest versions?  Lance

The Creative Cloud has three versions of Photoshop version 13, 14 and 15.  You can install the ones you want I have them and CS2 installed.

  • Brand new laptop, tried to install Ram upgrade and computer won't turn on (no bios, nothing)

I got my new qosmio x70 yesterday with a ram chip I ordered online. When I install the chip into either ram slot, the computer won't boot. It won't even turn on.
When I click the power button, the light aournd the button turns on for a moment then off again. That's it.
I thought maybe I could make a bios change, but there are NO memory options in bios. I also tried both ram chips from my old Qosmio (3 years old) and they had the same problem. Any ram that touches my machine disables it. Am I going to have to send back my brand new toy already!?

I have used Crucial to order in the past because they guarantee compatibility and you should not have any issues with ordering from Toshiba either. The memory you posted may work, looks like the same specs but I don't want to be the one to tell you it will work incase you have trouble with that one.
Here are memory spec terms from the crucial site to help understand what they mean.
    Memory spec terms
If you're not sure if a module is right for your system, use the Crucial Memory Advisor tool for a list of guaranteed compatible modules.
NON-ECC/Non-parity— Most desktop and laptop computers take NON-ECC or Non-parity memory.
ECC/Parity— ECC or parity modules look for errors in data and are most often found in servers and other mission-critical applications used by large networks and businesses.
Unbuffered— Most PCs and workstations use unbuffered memory which is faster than registered memory.
Registered/Buffered— Registered or buffered modules delay all information transferred to the module by one clock cycle. This type of memory is primarily used in servers.
Fully buffered— Designed for next-generation servers, features an advanced memory buffer.
CL— CAS (column address strobe) latency, which is the number of clock cycles it takes before data starts to flow after a command is received. Lower CL is faster. Modules with different CL can be mixed on a system, but the system will only run at the highest (slowest) CL.
Component configuration— (For example: 64Meg x 64) Indicates the size of the memory chip components on the module.
Voltage — For example 2.6V. Indicates the power used by the module. The lower the better

I'm trying to create a bottom panel with conky that will replace LXDE's panel.  Right now I have everything set up adequately except for having the conky panel appear on the bottom.  The conky manpage mentions the panel setup under own_window_type, and says that it follows the lead of the alignment variable, so I figured setting the alignment before setting own_window_type may fix the issue, but I haven't had any such luck.

own_window_type must be panel, otherwise it doesn't behave like a panel.  And adding "above" to the hints instead of "below" doesn't fix it.
Maybe the other options have some effect.  When i tried setting "own_window" to "no", conky would disregard my transparency option and just make it transparent.

  • Cannot install ICloud Control Panel to Laptop using Windows 8

I cannot install the ICloud Control Panel on our Laptop.
Tried several times to install but get an error code at the
very end of the install. Not sure why.
    Installed perfectly on another PC.

I have the same issue on my new laptop running Windows 8.1. When trying to install iCloud Control Panel 3.1 it stops at 'Updating component registration' and displays the alert 'the process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file'.  Can anyone help?

  • I have Win7Pro64, tried to Un-Install Firefox control panel, no luck, tried running helper.exe from Uninstall folder and it says "Not a Valid Win-32 Application" What gives?? Just want to update to 3.6.4 and that didn't work either so I'm trying to remove

Running Win7Pro64. Tried to update to 3.6.4 and it failed. It said to download the whole program so I did. Tried to install and says that the "License File" is missing. SO I go to un-install 3.6.3 myslef with Control Panel. All that did was remove Firefox as a listed program in control panel, all of it is still there in Explorer and it runs fine. So I go to use Helper.Exe under the Uninstall folder of Mozilla Firefox and when I click that, it says "Not a Valid Win-32 Application" What's up with that?? All I want to do is remove 3.6.3 so that I can clean install 3.6.4. I tried installing 3.6.4 two different ways with failures both times. I tried to remove 3.6.3 using two different ways, and that also failed both times.
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
== I tried updating to 3.6.4. It failed both with the update and the full download, so tried to un-install 3.6.3 in control panel, then helper.exe with no luck.

You don't want to update to 3.6.4, trust me. Stay with 3.6.3. If you need to download it again you can find it here:

Download AA 9 Pro from http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-downloads.html. Make a new backup for your archive. You might also take the DVD to your library to see if it is a drive problem. You might also carefully clean the DVD with water and soap (do not use anything that would scratch the surface or you have destroyed it for sure) and see if that solves the problem. This is particularly an issue if you have finger prints or other crud on the DVD. However, it could also be a bad drive as I mentioned. Hopefully the download solves your problem in any case (I would backup the download to CD and/or backup HD).

    Well.
    I reinstalled Win7 64bit, same issue.
    I installed Win7 32bit, installer doesn't run correctly.
Got a second new laptop, running Win7 Starter edition, 32bit, installer doesn't run correctly.
By run correctly I mean when you double click it, you get the busy cursor and some disk IO then nothing happens.
So....When's the next release of Itunes out?
Because the current one is a steaming pile of unworking crap.

  • Installing RAM to imac G4 flat panel

How difficult/dangerous to the computer's wellbeing is it to replace the factory-installed RAM oneself? Apple recommends bringing it to an authorized service (I assume because this model is tricky to open), but the Apple store will only do the install it if I purchase RAM from them - which is 50% more than at Crucial. In any case, I couldn't find a DIY install manual for my model on this site. Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated...

Here's a DIY guide for you.
    http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/iMacg4/imacg4takeapart.html
Of course, this will void any warranty you have left (if any) on your iMac.
I've done this for one of my iMacs and it wasn't too bad.

  • Trying to install OS X 10.3 on Lombard

I have been trying to install 10.3 on my lombard for two years and it freezes during install, I am tired of going to the apple store to enjoy os x. I can not afford to upgrade laptop live on minimal fixed income. I have 256 mb of ram in my laptop. Sometimes I get as far as completion of disc 1 the it freezes. What am I doing wrong. I hate still using os 9.1

    ATP,
No, no, no...of course you can run OSX, but you must leave the top memory slot empty. I don't know how technically minded you are, but here is summary of what to do. Please remove all power plus main battery (just pull the battery out a few inches).
    1. Lift off keyboard and lay it face down on the palm rest; do not disconnect ribbon cable.
    2. Remove heat shield.
    3. Remove top memory module.
    4. Lift out the microprocessor card, turn it over, and remove the memory card from the lower (bottom) slot.
    5. Install a low-profile 256MB memory module like the one below. Please be advised that 256MB modules have a unique architecture for the Lombard and Wallstreet; generic 256s will not work.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/100SO256168L/
    6. Reassemble the computer.
    Here is a photo guide:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Device/PowerBookG3Lombard
Make sure you have a Phillips #0 screwdriver so you do not damage the screw heads. Now the above photo guide removes unnecessary items (PRAM battery and modem) to get to the microprocessor; just remove the items I mentioned.
You mentioned you have 256MB of RAM; I am guessing you have 2x128MB modules, one each in the top and bottom slots. Panther/10.3 will run on a minimum of 128MB but it will be slow. Nonetheless, if you wanted to remove just the top 128MB module, do so, then try installing 10.3.
I know this sounds complicated but it really is not. If you have a friend who is handy with tools and mechanical devices, he/she can help.

  • Today Apple retail unit sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my Mac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and Airport Utility version. What can I do please?

Today Apple retail unit/shop in sold me Airport Time Capsule. Now trying to install on my 21 inch iMac which runs OSX10.6.8. Seems I should have newer OSX and also newer Airport Utility version (mine is 5.6.1). What can I do, please? So much looking forward to using Time Capsule. It is not at all readable on box. Now with a magnified glass I can just about make out the installation requirements printed in tiny print at the bottom/base of the box! I have tried software update etc etc and to download Airport Utility update from Apple website. This was unsuccessful because of OSX, I gathered. Appreciate any similar experience and how it was resolved. Thank you. Tr

You need OS X 10.7.5 or later. Most likely you can upgrade OS X on your iMac. You already have 10.6.8 and access to the App Store. If your computer qualifies to run Mavericks, then that is what you would upgrade to, otherwise, you would upgrade to Lion.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion at the Online Apple Store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Mavericks from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mavericks is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
        OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • Error trying to install Win 8.1 x64 Enterprise

Brand new iMac 27", fully loaded, 1 TB SSD, 32 GB RAM, running Mavericks 10.9.3.  Trying to install Win 8.1 x64 Enterprise (from MSDN).
Downloaded the ISO file and license and used Boot Camp to install the files and Apple Support files to a 16 GB USB 3.0 thumbdrive.
Used Boot Camp to repartition the 1 TB SSD to set a Windows partion of 256 GB, then the computer rebooted into Windows Setup.
Came to the drives listing, selected the BOOTCAMP parition (Drive 0, Partition 4, 239 GB) and formated it, then clicked on NEXT.
Thought for a while, then it came up with this error message:  "We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose.  Please check your media drive.  Here's more info about what happened:  0x80300002"
Got some hits on Google about issues with VISTA, or with Intel processors, but, nothing specific.
Checked USB thumb drive with Norton, no issues, CHKDSK, no issues.
Have repeated the entire process twice, including restoring the patition and recreating it, and rebuilding the USB Thumbdrive.
Any ideas on what to do?
    Thanks!

More sadness.  I finally started getting the BSOD as soon as Windows booted, and, I could not restart or shutdown the computer...had to power off.  That, after a few times, corrupted my BootCamp partition.  I messed around with trying to fix, but, no joy.
Redid the partition, checked all drives for errors (fixed permissions on the Mac HD...LOT of errors), and created a new partition.
Used USB 2.0 (VERY SLOW) thumbdrive and had all external drives removed, and installed Win 8.1 Pro, not Enterprise this time.
Got it back up, patched it, configured it, put Norton 360 on it (have on all my computers and iOS devices) shut down, and hooked up the external drives.  Booted up and...got the BSOD.
This time I had Windows Debugger loaded, and after the BSOD could reboot, go back intoWindows, and Debug.
Culprit seems to be Norton--in particular a Norton Storage driver.  Will be contacting vendor to fix.

  • Trying to install 10.3 from current 10.2.8 on G3

We have a G3 which was used in school (daughter teaches 5-6 yr-olds). We want to continue using it for the less exotic functions, but working at its best capability.
Mac has 400Mhz Bus 100Mhz, Cache 512, Model says iMac (version =2.2) SDRAM 256 and 64, 2USB,Ethernet and 2 Firewire slots.
Currently running 10.2.8 (It had 9.2.2 before, but I still had my original 10.2 Install disc and that worked fine, and no OS 9 any more)
I then looked for 10.3 Panther, but couldn't find it, so I may have gone straight to 10.4.
So, I tried to install the 10.4, which it didn't like at all, so back to 10.3 as I have a disc with the upgrade 10.3 to 10.3.8 stage.
Can someone confirm that it will run 10.3.9 ? If so, I will need to start (I think) with installing 10.3. I have looked in Apple downloads for basic Panther without success – only lots of security upgrades and similar. Where can I buy the disc ?
    All suggestions welcome Many thanks
    Eric

Your Mac can run Panther 10.3 or Tiger 10.4. You have limited RAM, so you should increase to at least 512MB. To install either OS, you need a retail installer. The retail installers are black with a silver/white X. You can't use a gray installer for another model Mac. Panther installer is on CDs, while Tiger in on a DVD (so you need a DVD reader disc drive). There is no free download of either OS.
Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) (See Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac? ). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.
Also check these web stores: http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=19521 http://www.allmac.com/shop/index.php?cPath=5_10003
Possible Alternative if you are currently using Panther 10.3 – Do a Google search for Tiger 10.4 Upgrade DVD . It will upgrade your 10.3 to 10.4, but it doesn’t contain the full retail Tiger installer. Should be cheaper than the retail Tiger install DVD.
After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Look at this link Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger Installing Software Support Page
    http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/install/
You can also download the Tiger Installation and Setup Guide
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/TigerInstall_SetupGuide.pdf
When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.
Panther - If you do a Google search for M9227LL/A (Panther 10.3 retail install CDs) or M9228LL/A (Family Pack), you may find a set. The CDs should be black with a white X.
After you install the base 10.3.x, update to the final Panther version 10.3.9. See Mac OS X 10.3.9 Update (Combo) http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2464
