Trying to install software...all seem to be corrupt / can't install?
Hi guys
I'm running the current iMac 21" and I'm having a little difficulty I think.
Over the last couple of days I've noticed some issues with watching videos, some images etc. appearing distorted and the videos 'pixelling-up' in large boxes in strange colors (if that makes sense), and then disappearing again and now I can't seem to install anything as I either get that the disk image is corrupted or that there's a problem installing and to contact the software maker... It's happening with every piece of software I try.
I am up to date with the OS and everything else as of this date and I'm at a loss for what to do. I've tried using an anti-virus but...I can't install it...
I don't know how relevant this is but I do run Parallels Desktop on a daily basis with Windows 7 also. Could it have come from there? Would it be effecting OSX if it was?
Please, I'd appreciate some assistance. I'd hate to lose another Mac as my laptop is on the verge of death also and I'm worried that this will go too.

I've never used any of those "cleaning" maintenance utilities other than Applejack when it still worked which is a Single User Mode command line.
IF you would make a backup clone BEFORE you run into trouble, you should never ever need to reinstall. Ever.
Don't rely on (just) Apple Disk Utility to repair your drives. Invest in a good 3rd party, they do work and worth the price. But backups come first, TimeMachine along with cloned. Oh, and a small 30GB volume set aside on your backup drives for doing those system maintenance and to boot from another hard drive, and run repair with Disk Warrior BEFORE you add, install, make changes to your system or update it.
Windows 7 VMs are probably just using RAM and system resources, and of course 20GB or so of disk space. All you need in AV for 7 is Microsoft Security Essentials, it gets high marks and praise.
AV on OS X as you will find, there are a dozen threads pointing out "not needed / don't / cause more trouble than help" - and eat up more system resources.
SuperDuper to clone, Disk Warrior to repair.
If you also have Boot Camp, and use that in your VM, that is fixed. A VM though can be located on external drive if desired.

My IPAD has not been used in almost two.... I have tried to update software but when go to Settings, General I can not find Software Updates where it should be between About and Sounds, what can I do? So my images seem to be corrupt, can anyone help ?

so i "munched" some screen shots and they are very important, but if i open the imaes section all i see is a small image something like a square with two hills in it, and the file is apparantly 0kb, i have three munches, all the same, is there anyway to get those photos?
thanksHold the mouse button down while starting up the Mac to force-eject all removable media, which also opens the optical tray. Then use you OS X Install disk, open Disk Utility from the Installer menu, and see if you can run Repair Disk on the hard drive. If Repair Disk runs and reports fixing any errors, repeat Repair Disk until you get a clean bill of health. If Disk Utility is unable to see or run on the hard drive, try booting into single-user mode and running the Unix file system check utility fsck. Details are in Using Disk Utility and fsck.

I can AirPrint from my iMac and iPad but not my iPhone 5. Anything I need to do. Tried same article on all three to print.
You can stop new photos being automatically added to Photostream in iPhoto from iPhoto preferences > Photostream.

I am trying to update software on my macbook pro. From the apple menu, I click "check updates", software is then checked and a list presented of software that I require downloading. I then tick the relevant applications. The blue bar with "install and restart" appears, I press this, the computer goes into restart mode, I login and start all over again.
i seem to be in a loop! No authentical dialogue box appears for me to enter my name and password.

If that doesn't work, then you can try a new firefox [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles profile] just to see if it's (your) Firefox-related or maybe an actual problem with the site (maybe starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] can be a quicker check).

I was trying to install a coupon printer software from a website and it seems to be stuck. It has been installing it for hours. When I click on the installer and try to quit it won't let me. Any suggestions on how I can stop this?
Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner and choose Force Quit. Look for the item that says Not Responding and force quit it.

I was using my Mac tonight and suddenly this dialog box I had never gotten before popped up. It said:
storeagent is trying to install new software.
Type your password to allow this.
...with fields to enter the data and a "Cancel" and "Install Software" button. In addition, there was a help (?) button that when clicked on called up Mac Help Center with the section on "If you forget your login password" but no data on what this storeagent is.
The dialog seemed to have been provided by Mac OS, since it floated above all windows.
Normally, when I get an unfamiliar message, I type a phrase from it (in quotes) into Google and this pulls up plenty of cases where people have inquired about the same issue before me, but this time when I entered the phrase used in the dialog and the title of this post, I got nothing. Surely I am not the first one who has encountered this dialog before?
I clicked Cancel, since you hear so much about viruses these days attempting to install malignent software. When I did so, I got a dialog with the icon of the Mac App Store, saying the app update had been cancelled.
Maybe this dialog is legit? Advice appreciated.Okay, I've thought of a couple of things you can try if you don't want storeagent to run when MAS is not open:
1. Go to Applications > Utilities and launch Activity Monitor. Processes are arranged alphabetically. scroll down to storeagent and, if it is running, highlight it. Then go to the top left of the window and click on "quit process". That is a manual way to stop something from running. Test: leave Activity Monitor open and launch MAS - check to see if storeagent launched itself right after that. If so, quit MAS and see if it quits - if not, quit the process manually.
2. What settings do you have set in System Preferences > Software Update? I prefer not to have things done automatically so I have everything unchecked:
You could test by unchecking everything to see if you get any further password prompts for installs after that.
