Trying to install (upgrade) to itunes 6 - everytime I have tried it .....

I have just purchased a 5th gen iPod, video (60GB), I already had a 4th gen (20GB); I had iTunes 4 on my laptop (Windows 2000,prof.) - already, but it obviously did not accomidate the "video" asspects of my new iPod. I have tried everything, unistalling my old iTunes, I have downloaded the "install cleaner" I have deleted my "temp" files, I have tried installing Quicktime on it's own...Everytime I insert my iPod disc (I have also downloaded iTunes 6 from the website also) - and try to install I select the language and agree to terms, and it goes through alot of the process but just sets there doing nothing when it gets to: the installShield Wizard box: iPod for Windows 2006-03-23 Setup is performing the requested operations: C:\iPod\iPod Updater 2006-03-23\iPod nano Features Guide.pdf --This is where it stays, no matter how long you leave it...right before it sets there it has another box up and it goes through a few processes, then that box dissapears (although it still shows on the toolbar at the bottom of the screen "iTunes + QuickTime" button and the "InstallShield -iPod for Win..." button)...but that's it, no more...I need help!! Any Ideas??

hiya!
these sorts of hangs are sometimes caused by malware. so try downloading some fresh definitions and running vigorous spyware and virus scans. if your security software provider offers them, also try running online scans too.
if the install still hangs after that, let's try throwing the InstallShield Tips and Pointers at the beast:

  • Issue installing/upgrading to ITunes 10.6.1.7

Im having an Issue installing/upgrading to iTunes 10.6.1.7 When upgrading it would not istall and tell me to go to Tools>Download manual. I also had an issue with my IPod touch not showing up in iTuens all of a sudden. So figuring the two problems were related I uninstalled iTunes (cleaned my itues folder in my C drive also) with hopes installing it fresh would work and now when I install 10.6.1.7 I get the following in a pop-up window "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified. Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit."
Anyone know what the issue is?

    Try the following steps:
    1. Go to Microsoft website to fix install and Unistall problems. Click "Run now" from Fix it to remove all iTunes & related installer files:
    http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall
Be aware that Windows Installer CleanUp Utility will not remove the actual program from your computer. However, it will remove the installation files so that you can start the installation, upgrade, or uninstall over.
    2. You should remove all instances of iTunes and the rest of the components listed below:
it may be necessary to remove all traces of iTunes, QuickTime, and related software components from your computer before reinstalling iTunes.
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order:
    iTunes
    QuickTime
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Follow the instructions from Apple article listed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923 to remove all components
    3. Reboot your computer. Next, download iTunes from here:http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and install from scratch

  • My itunes library has organically grown from more than one itunes account but all now on a separate computer.  If I upgrade to iTunes match will I have to pay for each account?

My itunes library has organically grown from more than one itunes account (all paid for by me) but all now on a separate computer.  If I upgrade to iTunes match will I have to pay for each account or just once, for the computer?

No.  Provided the computer that you use to upload / match your Songs is authorised to play all of the Songs all works well - once complete you can download Song files that will play on your libraries / other computers without each computer having to be authorised.

  • I upgraded to iTunes 5.0 and have lost album art??

Hello, I haven't been around much lately since I have not had any problems. Well, my hard drive died on this Dell and I just back up and running. Lucky for me that I have a backup system on an external hard drive.
I figured I would upgrade to iTunes 5.0 and I did. All my music is there but there are only album covers for a few of my albums. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the covers back? Is there a way to go back to 4.9??
Also,I tried to use the parental controls and when I try to lock them, it keeps telling me it doesn't recognize my name. I use the name on my iTunes store account. Shouldn't that work?
I have another question but will put it in another post.
Thanks in advance for the help,
    Mike

I can't get any album art.
I have iPod photo and all the latest updates.

  • Trouble installing upgrade for iTunes in Windows 7

I can't seem to upgrade iTunes on my new Windows 7 laptop. I was successful installing it when I originally setup my new laptop a couple months ago and have no issues running the program itself but whenever it prompts me to upgrade to the latest version and it starts installing a dialog box pops up that reads:
The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.
Errors occurred during installation.Your system has not been modified.
Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit.
    Please help. Thanks in advance.

Try the latest Catalyst drivers from AMD then:
    http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx
    Quote
the download has a "utility", for want of a better description, where you can tweak the settings so assume the Win 7 download does the same.
You mean the 'Catalyst Control Center'

  • Cannot install Upgrade to iTunes 11.1.3 "Invalid signature"

Recently upgraded to IOS7. iPad cannot connect to PC as "... cannot be used because it requires iTunes version 11.1 or later". When I try to update iTunes to 11.1.3, it stops downloading with error message "iTunes has an invalid signature. It will not be installed". In a 'Catch 22' situation. Please help!

They changed the way but its still very easy. All you have to do is copy your music by using keyboard commands.
    Steps (for MAC)
    1. Click (ONLY ONCE) on your chosen music files outside of Itunes.
    2. press Command + C
    3. go to your itunes
    4. press Command + V
    For PC ,its the same
    - the same stuff but instead of pressing the Command key, its Ctrl .

  • Installing upgrade to ITUNES

I downloaded the latest version of Itunes and tried to install. When I click to execute it says I need the latest Quicktime software, so I try to reinstall and it now gives me the choice to repair or remove. When I click repair, it still does not solve problem. I am afraid to remove program and start install again, as I am afraid I will lose my downloaded music. Any help?

    hiya!
When I click to execute it says I need the latest Quicktime software
hmmm. the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
    Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

    Hello Jody
Try removing iTunes and its related software in the order that the first article states. Then once that is done then download iTunes or reinstall from the installer that you have already downloaded.

  • Upgraded to itunes 5.0  I have no music on ipod, cant update

My 40gb 4 generation Ipod is not connecting to itunes with my T42 IBM laptop with XP. I can see the ipod as a disk but when ever i click it, it will take a very long time do anything. It also shows that I only have 15gb free space even though I ave never had that much data in the ipod, I just have restored ipod so it should be empty, other than that Ipod seems to be ok. So after installing itunes 5.0 it wiped out my ipod and all the songs in it. I have restored it, done all the apple solutions to the problem but cant get itunes to connect with the ipod. I tried to format the ipod from windows but it just didnt do that. When ever i try to contact ipod anyway it takes forever to get anything done to it. I understand that many people are experiencin the same problems, but I havent found exactly the same symptoms. I tried withmy DELL D600 which have older itunes and older ipod updater and win2000 same symptoms. I took to maintenance company, they said it was ok. So any help is much appreciated, I need my Ipod!

I have had a very similar problem
-Currently using: Windows XP Home edition with most recent updates
    -2.39Ghz processor, Itunes 5
-IPOD 20GB I only have used up 3.9GB
    Very similar problem
My IPOD has recently had a weird problem after installing Itunes 5. When I
first connect the ipod to the computer everything seems to be working fine,
because the ipod displays the "please do not disconnect" message, and ITUNES
comes up on the screen and lets me play music from my ipod only for a brief few
minuets. The computer then stops playing the song it was currently playing and
I tunes freezes. After that point the only way to unfreeze Itunes is to press
select/menu on the ipod. When the ipod restarts and I plug the ipod back into
my computer it won't bring I tunes up again, and I am unable to access the ipod
drive. A screen comes up after 10 minuets saying I have to reformat my ipod
because it can not be read. I have already done so about 10 times and I still
    have the same problem.
My ipod doesn't freeze when I'm just listening to it with my earphones or on my
stereo, but it laggs more thean usual when changeing songs or menus (I have
only used up 3.9GB). I have also tried using my ipod on other computers and I
get the same problem. Please Help!

  • I INSTALLED THE NEW ITUNES BUT I DONT HAVE MAC OS X 4 SO I HAVE NO ITUNES

Whenever you seek assistance, it is necessary that you indicate what model Mac and OS that you are using.
In the meantime, for iTunes 7.3.2 you must have at least OSX 10.3.9 or 10.4.7 or later. If your OS is older, try to upgrade from the Apple Support website.
Older versions of iTunes are available here:

  • Do I have to upgrade to iTunes 10? I have 8 but can't get to the store past the advert for 10.

What I really want is to access courses on iTunes U. but guess I have to do that thru the store, which asks me to sign in. When I use my apple I.D. I'm told it hasn't been used at the store yet, and eventually leads me to a payment form.
I read on Apple that there's a go around to avoid giving credit card info, but you have to access store tab options first (video, apps, etc), and none of those show up. Only a big adver for version 10. I'm guessing I have to download 10 to get to the regular store front I've seen before (months ago?)
But iTunes doesn't make a distinction between Downloading and Upgrading, and not having done this before, I'm not sure if I'll lose what I have by changing to v10? iTunes says material may be lost if the current store doesn't carry what's in my library (something like that).  I'd like to leave well enough alone if possible.
My question then is, do you have to have version 10 in order to access the normal storefront?
Thanks in advance for any reply!

Thanks Niel. I'll go ahead and upgrade..
Wish the advert page would say more like a window saying you can't proceed until.. or a link for instructions to upgrade including what to back up first. For the longest time I was thinking it was a sign-in issue.

  • Authorizing a computer without upgrading to iTunes 8?

Can I authorize my computer to play purchased music without upgrading to iTunes 8?
I have a pretty old iPod 40GB (3rd gen, I believe) and after a major iPod crash after an update in 2006, I swore I'd never update again. So I've been using iTunes 4, which is what my iPod originally came with. It seems to like it. But I thought maybe it was time to update, and iTunes kept bugging me to upgrade to 8.0.1
So I downloaded it, installed it, and discovered that half my playlists and a bunch of my music was gone. Still had the files, they just weren't showing up. I tried to use my Norton GoBack to restore things to before I even thought about downloading 8.0.1, but the computer kept crashing. (Unrelated problem; piece of junk Gateway is trying to die.) I got frustrated, uninstalled 8.0.1, and went back to 4.0
But now the 3 or so songs I've purchased from iTunes (I think I got them as free downloads with a Pepsi promotion) won't play or sync to my iPod. I try to play them in iTunes and it tells me I need to authorize my computer, and the login screen pops up. So I log in, iTunes accesses the store, and then a message comes up telling me to upgrade to iTunes 8, which I REALLY don't want to do. Not being able to play 3 songs is a lot better than missing a couple hundred songs and a bunch of my playlists.
I've also tried downloading previous versions of iTunes from a link I found somewhere around these forums, but every version between 4 and the last of the 7's said it couldn't load my library because it was created in a later version of iTunes...
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you just install 6.0.5?
