Trying to interconnect Catalyst 3750 with cwdm sfp module

hi,
I try to interconnect 2 Catalyst 3750 switch use cwdm sfp fiber module.
If just plug in, there is no link between 2 switchs.
What's the procedure to make this?
Thanks

you have 2 options with CWDM at the moment. the first option is to use any or all to the 8 wavelenght SFPs: CWDM-SFP-1470= (gray) thru CWDM-SFP-1610= (brown)
with passive multiplexers (MUX) as described here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps5455/products_data_sheet09186a00801a557c.html
or
In the off chance you have only a single strand of fiber available, you would choose:
1000BASE-BX10-D AND 1000BASE-BX10-U SFP FOR SINGLE-FIBER BIDIRECTIONAL APPLICATIONS
as described here:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps5455/products_data_sheet0900aecd8033f885.html
Overall, CWDM is a cost effective method of building a Metro-Ethernet LAN / SAN by providing a single pair of single mode fiber the ability to support 8 wavelengths. You can mix and match these wavelengths with 1Gb Ethernet or 2Gb FiberChannel as needed.

  • Interconnecting Catalyst 3750 and 2948G-L3

I am trying to interconnect a Catalyst 3750 and a 2948G-L3 using fiber GBIC. The interfaces where the GBIC and fiber are attached show up as physically down. I have tried different ports and also changed both switches. No Luck. If I connect a 3524 to the 3750 using the same connection it works.
Are 2948G-L3 switches compatible with the 3750?
    Thanks,
    VT

Should have no problem. Can you try the following on the 3750's gig interface:
    speed nonegotiate
See of the link comes up.

  • Metro 3750 with 100BaseFX SFP

    Hi all,
Do anyone know if it's possible to run MPLS over a 100BaseFX SFP in the ES port of a Cisco Catalyst 3750 Metro Edition?
    BR
    /Daniel

Ok, Just wanted to reduce the confusion.
    1) MPLS support : YES.
Its part of the software. And the IOS for 3750 supports MPLS to be configured on ES ports, with more QOS and other functions as well.
    2) 100 BASE SFP Support - YES.
Now you have a question clubbed in for hardware support of 100BASE SFP on 3750. What ever SFP you put in ES ports MPLS will run. Now for support of hardware question.
Yes 100BaseSFP is supported in 3750 series Gigabit SFP uplinks.
    Here is the link:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps5455/products_data_sheet0900aecd801ba88e.html
Although you are not at all utilizing the 3750 to the fullest by using a 100BASE SFP but again it depends on your requirement.
But the support is there. :-)

  • Trying to interconnect Catalyst 4506 (IOS) & Catalyst 6509 (CatOS) using FS

    Hey all,
I'm currently having a problem interconnecting a Catalyst 4506 using IOS and a Catalyst 6509 using CatOS via FSO. The FSO is all setup and they show that they are talking but when we plug the fiber optic cables into the switches, we get a notconnect status on the switches. The link lights on both switches don't light up either. I have configured both sides as follows
6509 (the Gigabit Port is 2/6):
    set port negotiation 2/6 disable
    set trunk 2/6 nonegotiate dot1q 1-1005,1025-4094
4506 (the Gigabit Port is 1/1):
    interface GigabitEthernet 1/1
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate
    speed nonegotiate
We were told by the FSO company that both ends must turn off negotiation in order for it to work. On the end with the Catalyst 6509, I have tried plugging another known working fiber optic line into the 2/6 port and the link light lights up so we know that the port isn't broken. Any ideas? I am lost.
    Background:
We currently have a T1 line that serves as a point to point between the two buildings. We were trying to get rid of it and go with Free Space Optics (FSO) to increase bandwidth between the two buildings. We have 5 VLANs on each side (on the 4506 side, Vlans 110, 120, 132, 140, & 104 and on the 6509 side, Vlan 10, 20, 32, 40, 4) and the point to point is on the 200 network to interconnect the switches.

    Hie David,
Just to start with are we sure that Rx of one switch terminates on Tx of other and vice versa. The fiber cable which is plugged in the trnasmitter of one switch must go to the receiver of another switch. You can just try swapping the TX and RX points at one switch.
I doubt this because as you have said even the link light is not coming up.

  • Catalyst 3750 , ACS and Downloadable IP ACL

    Hi,
We installed a ACS v4.1 , we were trying to limit the access to authenticated users by using Downloadable IP ACL in a Catalyst 3750 with IOS version ipbasek9-mz.122-25.SEE4. The authentication part works fine with a external database (Wins AD) , but we want to limit the access to the network of some groups.
This can be done using Downloadable IP ACL ?
    Thanks for any help

Yes, DACL's can be user here. To use a downloadable IP ACL on a particular AAA client, the AAA client must:
    .Use RADIUS for authentication.
    .Support downloadable IP ACLs.
Examples of Cisco devices that support downloadable IP ACLs are:
    .PIX Firewalls
.VPN 3000-series concentrators, ASA and PIX devices
.Cisco devices running IOS version 12.3(8)T or greater
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_soft/csacs4nt/acs
    40/user/c.htm#wp696809
Please note that downloadable ACLs are not supported on cat based switches.
If downloadable ACL's through shared profile doesn't work, define a cisco av-pair to create the downloadable acls.
Give this a try and see if it works. The format for the av-pair ACL is:
    ex
    ip:inacl#1=permit ip 1.1.1.0 0.0.0.255 9.9.9.0 0.0.0.255

Is the switch covered by a Cisco contract? If so, open a TAC case with Cisco and you will probably get a hardware replacement.

  • Cat 3750 with Voice VLAN and Dynamic VLANs

    Morning,
Has anyone had any success with configuring a Catalyst 3750 with a Voice VLAN (Cisco phones) and 802.1x dynamic VLANs?
Is a RADIUS server able to provide values to change the native vlan?
Is there a decent tech note knocking about for configuring 'dynamic VLAN assignment through MAC addresses'?
    Thanks,

Voice VLAN's don't require trunk ports to be configured (unless you are talkling about 2900XL/3500XL switches). Cisco added the ability to trunk a single 802.1q VLAN down an access port in addition to the access vlan - so in 2950 or above the only config you need is:
    interface FastEthernet0/1
    switchport
    switchport mode access
    switchport access vlan 10
    switchport voice vlan 100
This is effectively the same as:
    interface FastEthernet0/1
    switchport
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk native vlan 10
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,100
The only difference is the CDP message with the first config will advertise the Voice VLAN capability and the tag.
With the older 2900XL/3500XL switches you had to configure the interfaces like the second example (plus adding the command switchport voice vlan xx for CDP to inform the IP Phone of the voice vlan).
QoS is not detailed anywhere here and that obviously plays an important role with voice.
In your scenario I am not sure ACS can do what you describe as this will require 802.1x supplicants on the client PC's (I may be wrong here and I do remember someone talking about switches being able to do an 802.1x 'proxy' using the MAC address on behalf of non 802.1x capable devices). This seems to me more of a VMPS application.
Personally I would reconfigure the network each time and charge the occupants a small fee for network setup.....

  • Cisco 3925 and SFP modules

I'm trying to install a MGBSX1 into the Cisco 3925 but it's doesn't seem it's detecting it for some reason.
I've changed media type and I've tested with another SFP module (GLC-SX-MM) which works fine.
Am I missing a command to enable this type of module on the Cisco 3925?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Looking at the SFP compatability table for 39XX series routers.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/routers/3900-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/relevant-interfaces-and-modules.html#formfactor
    The MGBSX1 is NOT mentioned
Looks like the MGBSX1 is only compatable with the Small Business switch family.

  • Catalyst (3750 24 10/100/1000T) and (3750 12 SFP) Stacking Problems

    Dear all
I'm having a very strange situation here (at least for me)
    we have 4 core switches
    2 x   WS-C3750G-24T-S Catalyst 3750 24 10/100/1000T + IPB Image
    and
    2 x   WS-C3750G-12S-S Catalyst 3750 12 SFP + IPB Image
Stack configuration is done this way
when the switches are powered on, the first two SFP core switches are seen as a single stack with the stack master LED turned green on the first switch
the other two (24 10/100/1000T) switches have the RPS LEDs always green, mode cannot be changed, and cannot be accessed by Console connection
but when the (24 10/100/1000T) are powered off, the first (SFP) switch in the stack reports that " Switch 3 and 4 has been removed from Stack "
which means they are stacked but there's something wrong, because
only the SFP ports are shown in the " Show interfaces status " , the ethernet ports of the bottom switches are not present !!!
can you please tell me what's the poblem ?

    Dear Daniel
Sorry for my delayed response but i was actually quite busy
but the problem was actually in another sense
the default profile for the Catalyst 3750 SFP is the Aggregate SDM Template
while the 3750 10/100/1000 ethernet Switch Default SDM profile was Desktop profile
so i had an SDM mismatch

  • Policer with IPv6 class-map on Catalyst 3750

    Hi,
    I've the following problem.
It's my goal to ratelimit incoming IPv6 traffic dependent on the destination IP address range.
On a Catalyst 3750 (Image: c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE1.bin) I've set up the configuration as follows:
    mls qos
    ipv6 access-list DESTINATION-RANGE-A
     permit ipv6 any 2007::/16
    ipv6 access-list DESTINATION-RANGE-B
     permit ipv6 any 2B03::/16

    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/7
     switchport access vlan 90
     load-interval 30
     service-policy input RL-POLICY
The last CLI command which should bind the policy to the specific interface, leads to the following error message
QoS: class(A) IPv6 class not supported on interface GigabitEthernet1/0/7
Are hardware/software limitations the reason for this behavior or is there any misconfiguration?
Thanks in advance for your help!

If you are thinking of IPv6 prefix I tried everything. From /128 for single host to /64, nothing works.

  • Cisco Catalyst 3750 & Linksys SGE2000P

    Hello everyone,
I m in the process of addin new switches with Gigabit port in my server room, actually I have a single switch 48 port (a Cisco 3550) that is connected to a Core Switch via fibre channel but I need to migrate some of my server in a gigabit mode. My management did not allow me to buy a new Cisco switch, because the model with 24 port Gigabit is a bit expensive. so I need to find another solution.
My first thought was to buy a Linksys SGE2000P, and connect it to our Core switch via a fiber channel, to do that I must be sure that a SGE2000P is compatible with my Core switch (3750 12 port SFP) so here is my question does anyone around here has already tried that ? :-)
    Thanks in advance
    regards,
    Arnaud Leresche

I think there should be no compatibility issue BUT I have not personally tried it.

  • Could connect two Nexus 5648 to a stack of Catalyst 3750?

    Good Morning,
Can I connect a two Nexus 5600 (switchs distribution) with switch Catalyst 3750 (switch access)?
I have tried to integrate the Nexus switch in the network as switch distribution, replacing a Catalyst 6500 switch and does not work. Everything is going very slow. Although all the ping function properly.
Is there any incompatibility connect two nexus 5648 to a stack of Catalyst 3750 by VPC?
    Thank you.
    Greetings.

    Hi,
There can be many reasons for the switches not joining the stack like SDM template mismatch.
You may go through the following document:

  • System FCS error frames on Catalyst 3750

    Please,
may someone explain what are the "System FCS error frames" I see with "show controllers ethernet-controller" on some ports of a Catalyst (on trunk and also on access ports) WS-C3750G-24TS-S (3 switches in stackwyse)?
Error counters advance slowly, but they do grow... and I am afraid this could be the reason for variable slow access time to a server application menu...
For example "8 System FCS error frames".
The ports are connected to a PIX-515E and I see the same error count on the firewall interfaces (PIX "show interface" command shows me "8 input errors, 8 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 8 ignored, 0 abort")
A few errors may be seen also on other ports, connected to other (C3550)switches.
I tried to upgrade the IOS version, so I loaded "ipbase 12.2(25)SEB4 " on the Catalyst 3750, but it did not solve the problem.
PIX firewalls are running software 6.3(4).
Why these errors are called "System FCS error frames" ? I could not find anything searching on Cisco CCO!
    Thanks

I apologies for the delay answering, my notebook has been down for 5 days and also cco access password...
Thank you for the explanation and suggestion.
We have a second rack with another three switch 4750 in stackwyse, same models as the "faulty" ones, and the errors are not present on those switches, so it must be something hardware related on the first group of switches.
I cannot touch those devices at the moment, we captured traffic frames with 3 Notebook PCs running "Ethereral" lan sniffer, traffic to and from the server and two clients and we discovered that in different ports of those switches, some packets never reach the clients, causing many TCP retransmissions, especially witch continuous traffic (http get and ftp transfers). This problem is visible on some, but not all, of the catalsyt 3750 switches in stackwyse, but in every one of the three switches. We are planning to go on-site and replace the hopefully faulty one ( or reseat the cables as you suggested).
Is this a problem you have seen before?

  • I cannot connect by console port to Cisco Catalyst 3750 using ethernet to USB.

Hello. I have one Cisco Catalyst 3750 switch, and two 2950 switches. I am trying to reset their settings using a console cable with a trendnet Ethernet to USB adapter. When I try loading hyperterm or putty on com3 there is no signal. I have the communication port setting on com3. I don't know what the old settings are, and they can be reset. I get connectivity lights when plugging the cable into the switch ports. What am I missing?

Are you definitely using the correct COM Port number? On Windows7 Right Click My Computer > Manage Then select Device Manager and expanPorts (COM & LPT)d  in my case is shows Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM5).
Once you have the right COM Port number just use the default settings in Putty. You may find the COM Port is locked up which will require a reboot.
