Trying to load firefox and get warning that file can harm my pc

I am having a problem loading firefox. I get a message that this type of file can harm my computer. I click save but still it does not download.

To experiment more safely, could you create a new Firefox profile? The new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder. If we get your bookmarks into the new profile successfully, you can create a backup and restore it in your regular profile.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
firefox.exe -P
Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Please do not delete anything in this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, choose a name like TESTING, and skip the option to choose a folder. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
If you have backups in the JSON format (e.g., bookmarks-2014...json) try to restore one to this TESTING profile. This article has the steps (you will need to use Choose File... to get to the backup):
[[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
Does that work and give you complete results?
If not, the next thing I would try is to drop in the places.sqlite file you have and see whether Firefox can read it properly.
First, open up a Windows Explorer window to this new profile folder. You can do that using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
Got the list of files? Okay, leaving that window open, switch back over to Firefox and Exit the browser, using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
* File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup -- you will see the timestamps update in the profile folder, then rename '''places.sqlite''' to something like places.old and drop in the places.sqlite file you want to test.
Start Firefox back up again. Bookmarks?

    I have tried loading firefox and it tells me that it can not create a file. How do I fix this problem?

    Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac. There is a third party version of Firefox 4 that runs on OS X 10.4/10.5 and PPC Macs, for details see http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox
    If you prefer, you can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • What should you do when you download a file and it says that it can harm your computer?

    My school is giving students free Microsoft Office and I downloaded the one labled Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac. But when did the first step in installing it, which was download the Download the Secure Download Manager (SDM) installation file, a warning came up saying: This type of file can harm your computer. Do you want to keep SDM.pkg anyway? I'm not sure whether or not I should Discard it or Keep it.

    That's a warning from the Chrome browser. If you're sure that you downloaded the file directly from Microsoft, and not from any other website, you can ignore it.

  • I have tried to load firefox, keep getting a message something went wrong try again, i have tried 10 times so far

    I have been trying to change my internet browzer to Firefox, but I have had no luck as yet. I seem to only be able to get Maxthon

    It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
    Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • When loading firefox i get an error message, "can't find ////jpsnotify.exe. now firefox loads but every time i go into anything else it appears. this started to happen when i downloaded a new verison of java.

    i downloaded a new version of Java and i then started getting "windows can't find c:\java\jre6\lib\deploy\jqs\ff\..\..\..\bin\jqsnotify.exe. now this only happens when loading firefox. it happens through out the use of firefox when loading other programs. any suggestions?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

    Try re-installing Java. See [[Using the Java plugin with Firefox]]
    A quick search for jqsnotify.exe on Google indicates that it is related to the Java quick start option.

  • When i click to play song  I get message that file can not be found, would I like to locate it?  What do I do?

    When I click on songs I purchased. I get message that "song could not be used because original file could not be found.  Would you like to locate it?"
    I used to be able to play them,  What do I do?

    It means the media is not where iTunes expects it to be.
    iOS devices are not and have never been backup devices.
    Are the files in question still on the computer?
    If not, you should restore them from the backup of the computer.  You do have a backup, correct?

  • I want to add firefox, but it says that it can harm my computer.....I am hesitant about using anything that can harm my computer, as I am sure you can understand....Why would your firefox harm my computer?

    I was going to download your 4. version, but something popped up and said it could harm my computer...I had already downloaded Internet Explorer version 9 and am having problems with games.

    That is a standard message that applies to any executable file, it is not aimed at Firefox. It is warning you that you need to make sure you know what you are trying to download. The warning is to help prevent the spread of viruses and malware. If you download Firefox from Mozilla ([http://www.mozilla.com/]) you can ignore the warning.

    Bookmark and use this;
    Download the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
    This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up
    and then resets your search preferences and home page
    to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This
    affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

    Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.
