Trying to make external speakers work

Hi just trying to make some external speakers work. I have them plugged into the output port.When I go to sound preferences they line-out option is missing. The only option I have is Built in speakers. I realize they will not work if I dont have this option so I just need help making that option appear so that I can select it. Hopefully that made sense lol
Thanks in advance for the help. I really appreciate it!

  • Only external speakers work!

    Hi there,
    A few days ago my internal speakers stopped working. I've tried rebooting, and resetting the PRAM and inserting and removing my headphones from the jeck to try and make it realise they're not plugged in anymore.
    Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get my internal speakers working again?
    How does the mechanism work that detects when headphones are plugged in?
    Thank you,

    Sound coming through speakers connected to an Airport Express has some delay due to the processing involved. This would be annoying when trying to watch video on your computer. This is why iTunes won't use Airport Express connected speakers when watching video.
    There is a third-party application called Airfoil. It allows any sound to be sent to an Airport Express.

  • GB3 crashing when trying to initialize external speakers

    I posted this as a reply to the person who kindly answered my first question, but I thought I should throw it out there as its own topic.
    GB3 plays very quietly through my built-in speakers and the volume will not go up or down no matter which sliders or controls I use. When I try to switch the GB prefs to my external USB Soundstick speakers, GB3 crashes upon attempting initialization. My general prefs are set to my external speakers and they work for all other applications. I wouldn't mind just working with headphones, but even as is I can't adjust the volume at all.
    Thanks for helping.

    A big ah-ha moment for me. I fixed my GB3 with SoundSticks crash problem this morning. I took my SoundSticks out of my Macally USB hub and plugged them directly into my PowerBook USB. Fixed the problem - I now have normal audio from GB3 through my SoundSticks. Now, my problem is, I don't have any open USB ports on my PB. I sure don't like that! We need Apple to fix this problem - the problem being our SoundSticks won't run through our hubs anymore. Have you discovered anything new about this issue? Thanks!

  • Grandson's ipod touch plays the music if the earphones are plugged in but not if it is unplugged and on the ipod docking station nor do the external speakers work.  What is wrong?

    I won an ipod touch and gave it to my grandson for Xmas but sometimes the external speakers do not emit music but the music can be heard with the earplugs in.  It also will not play on the docking station speakers.  What is wrong.  Of course Apple is sayin there is no warranty.

    Try to reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again and let it start up. You will not lose any data doing a reset.
    If this does not help, set it up as new device again, explained in this article: How to back up your data and set up as a new device

  • I have an iPad 2 and external speakers work, but JACK for headset doesn't produce sound. If I wiggle, twist or adjust it, the earphones make a crackly and very low grade sound. Ideas?

    No aud. or sound when using wired headphones. If I constantly play with input jack it will produce a low sound or a regular sound but it's not of any quality worth listening. I have owned this iPad for over three years. It was purchased new.
    Happenings since 2013:
    Broke screen due to fall on floor 9-2013
    Screen replaced by techs on 10-2013
    Upon getting back iPad after being repaired discovered no WiFi on 11-2013
    Sent back to techs to repair issues with WiFi on 11-2013
    Received unit back on 12-21-13. I only checked WiFi. Unit remained unused for a few weeks.
    Used unit during Xmas season on average 12 hours a day but have not yet discovered or even tried a pair of headsets until after Xmas.
    Does work on screen and internal wifi antenna effect output sound on headphones?
    Can this be easily repaired, possibly without taking off the cover? Does it have an update conflict? Is is a Settings issue?
    Please help with any ideas or suggestions.

    Hello,
    Try wiping the iPad and then starting again. (Don't forget to back up first!)

  • HT2801 How to make external "SuperDrive" work on iMac with failed built-in?

    WHY is my new external "SuperDrive" "designed exclusively for use with Mac computers that do not have a built-in optical drive"?  How can I make it work on my iMac with a failed built-in "SuperDrive" that was obviously junk to begin with?  I ordered it from a Staples kiosk that had zero product information but the name of the product was USB SuperDrive and it was made by Apple so I reasoned it would run on my Apple.  I bought an LG 2 months ago when the built-in failed but the LG only worked about a month then every disc burn was aborted as "error."  So I bought new burn software from the Apple app store but still "error" so I went to Staples and bought this and it didn't work so I ise a magnifying glass to read the light grey letters on the white box and it says "Compatible with Mac systems without a built-in optical drive."  I found articles online advising how to hack my own computer to make this work but I am low-tech and afraid of wrecking my computer.  I am FURIOUS with Apple, I buy it only because Windows gave me such grief but honestly Apple hardware has OFTEN proven itself short-lived and low quality.  PLEASE how do I burn an audio CD with my stupid iMac peice of garbage?

    Calm down.
    If you so choose here are some quality optical drives you can purchase, online here.

  • Why won't external speakers work with my MacBook?

    I've had my MacBook for awhile now. For the first time, I tried plugging in some external Dell speakers that I had used with my old computer. The instant I plug in the USB, my MacBook shuts down. Why is this?

    Maybe the speakers are not compatible with your computer.  Contact the manufacturer.
    You can try Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM to see if that resolves the issue.

  • Trying to make this rule work

    I have an IMAP server so I want Apple Mail to move any email that has all of the following:
    a) the email has been read
    b) it is older than 10 days
    c) it currently is in the inbox called "avenue B"
    And then I want these emails to go to a specified folder on my computer, so they are off the server. (this step seems manageable)
    I can't figure out how to indicate emails that are "read" or how to identify the rule to check only one inbox (I have 3). Or for that matter, it can check all three. But I only want it to move things from the inboxes, not from other folders.
    I also want to do this with emails that are "sent" (in the sent folder on the server). And move them to a different folder on my computer.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Jon

    good morning,
    thank you both for reply
    that adicionar_variaveis(function, [parameters]) isn't an error, that is a function i found some months ago, witch makes possible to add parameters to any function like this
    function adicionar_variaveis (funcao:Function, que_variaveis:Array):Function {
        return function(event:Event):void {
            funcao.apply(null, [event].concat(que_variaveis));
    then if you have
    addEventListener(mouseEvent.CLICK, adicionar_variaveis(some_function, [some_value]));
    function some_function(e:event, value:String) {
    trace(value);
    this value is correctly traced and debug doesn't fire any error

  • External speakers not working in some apps

    Just set up new MacPro running Snow Leopard.
    External speakers working fine in some apps but not others (iTunes plays perfectly, but mail notification audio in mail app runs through computer speakers -- at very low volume). Checked preferences. Nothing set differently than from old G5. Am I missing something here?
    Anyone have similar situation? If so, what can I do to fix.
    Thanks.

    There are two settings to check. Under the Sound Preference Pane, check the first tab, Sound Effects. Check the drop down setting for "Play sound effects through:" and make sure that setting is correct. Then check the Output setting and make sure your speakers are selected.
