Trying to make my website an RSS feed...need some help

I want to make my site RSS distributable. I have been reading what I can find about RSS feeds but I am missing something.
I can make a valid XML file that passes a feed validator, I can make an RSS feed button so you can enable my page to be added to an RSS feed reader but I am thinking my page HTML is still missing some appropriate tags to complete the process. They do not appear as "readable" even after added to a feed reader. It has been very difficult for me to locate a good tutotial to tell me what to do with my pages assets to make them adequately "readable." I don't know if that means it is so easy I'm over-thinking it or what.
To maybe make it a little more problematic, I'm trying to do this with a site that includes a picture gallery, its a web comic. I have seen Web comic aggregators pull in WordPress sites with a clickable gallery that in theory is the same as what I have made at www.norestcomic.com but as I said, I can't legitimately pass my website all the way through a reader, even though it passes validation. I don't think the gallery itself is breaking anything.
I would really prefer to not use WordPress because I like the potential for Muse and what it could mean to my site but the RSS feeds will become an important means of marketing and distribution for the site, so I do need to resolve this.
As an aside would anyone know if RSS inclusion or RSS feed readers are coming as a widget? Can I officially request it? Thanks.
Best,
Matt

Hi king-jans/Jorge,
I am still trying to resolve this appropriately for my needs but I did make some progress.
It took a number of trial and error attempts but I did make it so that some HTML code I added would make my site appear as an RSS readable page. HOWEVER, the HTML export of my site still maintains some of the great MUSE functionality so even with a good RSS header and trying to manually update my RSS support information RSS readers do not read it like other RSS capable sites. There are a number of RSS comic sites I was trying to link my site into and they all come back to me saying they can't read my site...usually treating me like an idiot because many non-technical people can do this though WordPress, etc. Me trying to have some control of the look and feel of my site is apparently a silly notion.
I am still working on it and will update this thread if i can reach a better resolution.
Best,
Matt

  • Website design... need some help

I have a website and my conversion rate is verry verry low. I have tryed all kinds of things but can;t seem to get people's attention.
Please give me some suggestions of what could I improove to get people to convert.
    The website is : http://www.dnmw.net
    Please help!

It's a bit noisy and my eye can lose track a bit too easily.  I tend to find software sites use the majority of their front page to advertise their most successful products, with large imagery and not too much text.  Links then lead to more information on individual pages.  Also the pop up in the bottom right is just annoying.  I'd get rid of that completely myself it looks desperate.

Trying to make a photo contest need some help. I am running a
fish photo contest on my website and was wondering if any of you
could give me some advice on some good extensions to help me do
this easier. Basically I want a page where people upload a file and
then it automatically resizes the image and puts it on a page,
where people can vote on the pictures.

    Hi Pilot,
Column B contains the sale amounts.
Column C will contain the tax amounts.
I'm assuming a header row, and the first line of data to be row 2.
    In C2, enter: =B*20%
Click Accept, then use the mouse to drag the small round handle at the lower right of the selected cell (C2) to fill the formula into the rest of the cells in column C.
This simple version of the formula will put zeros in all column C cells where no amount has been entered in the corresponding cell in column B. The revised formula below takes care of that.
    C2: =IF(B,B*20%,"")
I'd strongly suggest that 'rookies', as you describe yourself, download and read both the Numbers User Guide and the Functions and Formulas User Guide. Both are available from the Help menu in Numbers. If you use Pages and Keynote, you should use the Help menu in those applications to download their User Guides as well. The guides are searchable pdf files, well written, easy to read, and useful to rookies and old hands as well.

I am using a mac and have been trying to resize with same resolution and constaining proportions but for some reaseon the smaller resized image appears pizelated. Heres an image of before and after. The first image I use is a JPG 72dpi 1500px x1500px and I want to downsize it to 600x600px same res, but it keeps pixelating, this has never happened before. Any suggestions, thoughts?
    thanks!

I wouldn't say pixelated; more like blurry.
Like ConnectedCreative said, what steps are you using? Are you using "bicubic sharper" when resizing down?

If the file was not originally from iTunes, you'll need to redownload it from it's original source or rerip it from the CD.  Files can sometimes go bad and become corrupted.  As to how or why that happens, there are a number of ways.
What format are the problematic tracks in? Have you tried converting them to another format in iTunes?

  • Website title/rss feed

How do I change the title of website that appears on the top of the page when access it via the internet? My address is http://www.ThePleasurePrescription.com it has "sex toys" as the title. I don't want it say that and don't know how to change it.
Also how does the rss feed work. I tried to enter my blog into a blog directory and it asks for rss url, where would I find that?
    Thanks

IWeb uses the text in the top text box of the page. If that has been deleted it will use the next text box down. I don't see sex toys on the page so don't know where it came from. You can change it one of two ways:
1 - add the following to an HTML snippet on each page:
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    parent.document.title = "PAGE NAME TO SHOW IN BROWSER TAB/BAR";
    </script>
This only has to be done once per page.
2 - useiWeb SEO Tool to change the page title to whatever you'd like as well as add keywords to the pages. (It appears you may have already added keywords somehow). This will have to be repeated each time you edit and republished any page. SEO remembers what was added and can reapply all of the additions with a single click.

  • My website presents RSS feeds to viewers. This works great with IE but Firefox does not load the RSS data, although it does present the page with blank data regions. Ideas?

Web design tool used is NetObject Fusion 11 which puts a php proxy script on the server to function as a gateway between the RSS feed and the browser.

XmlDocument.create doesn't seem to work in Firefox. You can see an error in the Tools > Error Console

  • RSS Feed - Need help!

    Hi.
I have a blog via Live Journal. I also have a main websiite.
I would like visitors to my main site to be able to press an
RSS icon, and by doing so, subscribe to my external Live Journal
    blog.
I don't want to include the actual the content from my Live
Journal blog on my main site (as I have a link to the actual Live
Journal from my site). All I want to do is create an action on an
RSS button on my main site that will allow users to subscribe to my
    Live Journal.
Any ideas? I've tried googling RSS to get more info, but all
I get is info on how to include an RSS feed (as in the actual
content ie. news) to a website.
Here is a link to my test home page - at the bottom of the
page you will see the RSS icon. Click the icon and please tell me
if I am doing this right because I am currently finding this whole
RSS thing a tad confusing at the moment.

  • Itunes can only find one episode on my RSS feed... help?!

I am having some issues with getting my podcast up and running. My RSS seems to be working and the files seem to be accessible yet only one of my test episodes works. I have been attempting to use garage band to share episodes with iweb with no luck. the only episode that seemed to work was an older audio file that I dropped straight into iweb (skipping the editing process in garage band). I am trying to figure out why only one episode out of several can be found by itunes...
This is my RSS feed address: http://brentviewhub.com/Hub_Ministries/Talks/rss.xml
Here is the link to the Itunes working episode: http://brentviewhub.com/Hub_Ministries/Media/100115_004.mp3
I feel a little frustrated as I am a little code illiterate, any help would be much appreciated!
    Dan

I've looked at it again: my FireFox will play two of the mp3 episodes, but complains that it need an additional plugin to play the earliest episode, despite the fact that it's also MP3.
iTunes will only download the second to latest episode: it complains that the other cannot be found on the server.
Safari will play all of them.
All except the second episode have spaces in the filename: these are replaced in the feed with the code %20 and normally in this situation it all works OK (it's when the URL in the feed has spaces that it falls over) so though it's a messy looking solution it shouldn't cause a problem.
Though you are using iWeb to create the podcast - which should work perfectly well - you are apparently not using MobileMe but another server. Servers have to be configured to deliver different types of file correctly: so, for example, if you have an M4a file but the server hasn't been set up to deliver it properly, instead of playing in a browser as it should it will be downloaded (which is what happens with an unknown file type).
It can't be as simple as that here, since Safari is not having any problems, but as FireFox and iTunes are it does suggest that the server may be responding incorrectly to certain types of request. That's something you would have to take up with the people running it.
However since, although it might be coincidental, it is the case that the one trouble-free file doesn't have a space in the filename, it would be sensible to get rid of the spaces. To do this you will have to rename the files and drag them anew into iWeb, and then do a complete republish: this will rewrite the feed to match the new file names, but of course all the files will have to be uploaded again. As it's a comparatively easy (if tiresome) step it's obviously worth trying first.

    Hi Jon,
The "correct" name for an iTunes Library file is iTunes Library.itl. Nearly all updates to iTunes involve some upgrade the library file. The pre-upgrade file is moved into the Previous iTunes Libraries folder, stamped with the date of the upgrade, and then used to construct a new library incorporating any changes that have been made to the data structure for the new build. Should this upgrade go wrong you can usually copy the archived file back into the main iTunes folder, give it the correct name, start iTunes and iTunes will do the upgrade over again. Like this...
Sometimes when iTunes isn't shut down properly the active library file gets corrupted. If you start iTunes in this state you may be prompted to locate a valid library file. It looks like you have connected to a much older library file at some point. What is less clear is if this is a recent event or an older one.
I suggest you search the entire computer for all files of the form *.itl. Ideally we need to find the most recently modified one that isn't corrupt, place it in the main iTunes folder, rename it as iTunes Library.itl and connect to it. Having placed a suitable library file in the correct location and renamed it, click the icon to start iTunes and then immediately press and hold down the left shift key. Keep holding until asked to create or choose a library. Click choose and browse to the renamed/relocated library file. If that file won't work close iTunes, and try another in the fashion shown in the diagram until you find one that is satisfactory. No need to use the shift-start-iTunes trick again as this time each new file will be on the same path.
Once you've found the best of the available libraries you can use a tool called iTunes Folder Watch to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created, i.e., add in the new files, or delete the entries for tracks that have been removed from the media folder.
If for some reason the restored library contains broken links to the media I have a script called FindTracks that can repair them.
When you get it all working make a backup!

Browser scrollbars appear by default in all pages requiring them.  You don't need to do anything to make them appear.  I don't think you understand Fixed positioning well enough to be using it so much in your CSS.  It has a purpose but probably not what you think.
    See position:fixed sticky text demo.
