Trying to make SubClips-Sometimes FCP won't let me??
Hello,
I have 10-30 minute episodes of a local tv show I have been shooting and editing for several months now. The Producer wants a bloopers piece cut for the wrap party this friday. I am going through many hours of footage trying to locate some bloopers, and am making subclips of the ones I like and putting them into a new bin then dragging them into a new project.
I am finding that sometimes FCP will simply not allow me to make a subclip. I will select in and out points as normal, but the Make Subclip command will not even be available (both in the viewer from the original clip and in the timeline). Sometimes it is available, sometimes it isn't with no common variables when it does or doesn't work. If I leave and go back to a particular clip in may or may work? Planets align-Earths magma shifts-no idea??
I know an easy way around is to select in and out and export a quicktime movie and then import it back in, but it's SUPPOSED to work! Maybe this is one of those many FCP peculiarities that just has no explanation?

In the viewer with a Master Clip is where I am. I just made about 20 subclips since I posted, and was declined about 3 that I then made quicktimes of. I make absolutely sure i am not in the timeline or elsewhere when I try to select Make Subclip. I have re-visited failed attempts minutes later and have been able to with no problems.
All media was shot and imported the same way. It is spread out on several different drives, an external firewire and internal SATA, but makes no difference as to where the clip is stored wether it allows subclips or not at the given time.
Once again, there's an easy work around but it's just a nuisance and a mystery.

I'm also having a music issue. When my phone is attached to the computer (mac running 10.6.8) it looks like my music is there but its gray and I can't play anything. I've tried to delete it and it won't let me but it does not show up on my phone.
By the way, I have tried shutting of the display switching in the power settings. That was basically the only real answer I found anywhere. It didn't work.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
Trying to consolidate 261K+ of images within LR4 between two drives. Someone who was "helping" me with my Library in LR4 for some reason took some but not all of the file folders from my main backup drive (M) and duplicated them onto a partitioned hard drive (E) directly on the computer. The duplication is huge, so I am trying to condense them all back onto the original backup drive M, particularly since I believe there are also folders on the partitioned backup drive E that do not appear on the main one M, and there are many more file folders on M that are not on E, so that is the destination drive.
CONSOLIDATION: When I try to drag either the file folders or the individual files from the duplicate drive E to the original drive M to combine the two drives since the folders in many cases for some reason are not identical, sometimes LR4 says the files already exist when they clearly don't. Other times it allows me to drag and drop all files, even if the exact duplicates are already on the destination drive, thereby doubling the number of files per image and creating more duplicates. Right now I am opening each file folder on the duplicate drive E, looking at what extensions and file names are there, scrolling to the original drive, making sure they appear to be identical, then going back to the duplicate drive E, deleting the images in the folder, removing the folder, and moving to the next folder on the duplicate drive E. *There has got to be a simpler way.*
CONSOLIDATION APPROACH: I did start to create file folders names A, B, C and group file folders under them to reduce clutter, since those header folders can be closed down when not in use, but now I am wondering if I should have done that alphabetization to the main backup drive rather than to the partitioned backup drive.
My goal is to consolidate the two drives down to one, delete as many images along the way that I know I will never miss, then backup the catalog and export it to an external drive and then copy that to yet another drive for offside storage. Does this sound like the proper plan? Last time it took almost 24 hours and over a terabyte to export the catalog.
DUPLICATION: I also have many file folders that have the exact same image in them. One portfolio image may actually be in eight different folders, with the exact file, file name, file size, and date, even though I always have checked "no duplicates on import," How can this be? What is the best way to sort through duplicates? Why are the files in some of the duplicate folders not in numerical order? If I do a search and call up a file # and find 15 duplicates, the only way I can find where those duplicates reside is to take each duplicate, right click to Locate Folder in Library, then once I find it, I have to go back to All Photographs>Text.search for file #, go to the second duplicate, right click to Locate Folder in Library, then once I find it, I have to do it all again. Is there a simpler way to see all the occurrences in their respective folder locations at once?
SEARCH BY FILE FOLDER NAME ONLY: I also find I can't search for a file using a folder name (for example, "John_Doe"). I can only search by file #, keywords, or camera/lens/date, etc. Why will it not work to use All Photographs>Text>search for Doe? In other words, if I didn't keyword the individual files as John Doe, I can't search for them by that moniker.
BACKUP: It also appears that the only way I can back up the catalog is to shut down LR. Really?!
FOLDER LIST PRINTOUT: Is there a way to print out the Folder list (other than a screen shot)? I have so many file folders on each drive since I sort not by Year/Month/Date but by subject. It makes trying to compare duplicate folders quite unwieldy.
SLOW RESPONSE: And finally, as though that weren't enough, why does LR4 continually blink to a white screen after each keystroke? Takes forever just to be able to click through images, view info after hovering, etc. All other programs are closed down and the operating system shows very little memory being used.A brief and probably non-helpful answer: I know of no way to eliminate your large amount of duplicates other than by repetitive, tedious manual effort.

1. Firefox crashes and an error message appears.
2. I open Firefox again.
3. Automatically Firefox asks if I want to restore the last session or start a new session.
4. Usually it works to restore a session, but at random times, it does not and the following happens.
5. I move the mouse toward the restore session button but don't quite get there when my usual home page opens.
Question: once this happens is there a way to get my old session back, like a place where you can manually request Firefox restart the last session?did not have that extension installed, but did it now and can't find anything there that would concern tab groups. (also referred to as Panorama). This session manager seems to provide a lot of stuff that the browser is supposed to do anyhoo, but with more options of configuration. Hope extension and browser won't cause a mess while attempting to do both the same thing.
Yes, I know that Bookmark all tabs is still available via right click - after a google-search told me so. My feedback was - why remove functionality from the menu? It's really not overloaded - and I'd expect a menu listing me the complete set of functions a software allows me to do, unless it busts the menu. So I was just asking myself - how come it has been removed? Makes no sense to me.

I forgot my passcode and my ipod touch was disabled. I'm trying to restore it but itunes says I need to disable "find my iphone" before I can restore. How am I supposed to disable it if I don't know my passcode?
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

thanksI am having same issue on my iPhone 5s. Whenever i am trying login to iCloud from my device setting it's asking for apple id password & every time showing incorrect password verification failed but in fact the password is correct.
When trying to restore my iPhone from my PC iTunes backup it's asking to turn off Find my iPhone from the device iCloud setting. When i am going to turn it off from device iCloud setting it's asking for apple id password then a notification showing "verification failed, the connection to iCloud timed out.
I never faced this on any other iOS version other than iOS 8/8.0.2

I don't know what will help at this point. You should never update a system that has problems, unless you're absolutely sure that the problems are caused by a bug that is fixed in the update. With your backups in an uncertain state, you should not update or do anything else except start a new backup.

FCP won't let me log shots in order! Is there a way to resolve this?
I have a problem I've had for years with FCP and I'm finally fed up. There's nothing in any manual and it's such a stupid problem. Does anyone know how to keep the logged shots numerically in order from sc 1 to however many scenes you have without the scene numbers being out of order? Everytime I have a scene with a slash, ie: sc 189/190, it throws it out of order. When I label the bin with a title, it also throws the sequential numbers out of order, ie: sc 25 crowd. As soon as I add a / or a title to the bin it goes out of numerical sequence. Is there a secret to where scene numbers and spaces are positioned to prevent this. I know it's such a simple stupid problem, but it's made my logging and editing jobs much more difficult. Please help if there is a solution. Thank you! I'm ready to try Avid because this is such a headache and Avid doesn't have this simple stupid problem.
Unfortunately, that still doesn't solve the problem if I give a name to the bin. For example, I titled a bin sc 095 Kitchen, and FCP immediatly threw scene 95 somewhere near the end of my log completely out of order. I really don't think there's a solution to this. I've talked to FCP experts and they're boggled -- though they don't seem to care about naming their bins, and also don't have more than two scenes in a bin.

Trying to (micro) update cs5 but won't let me.

i've recently had to erase my hard drives and for some reason my Time Machine backup disk is unreadable for instant backup.
not the end of the world since i have my data still, but i'm now installing everything (production premium bundle cs5) from dvd.
that all is working fine, but upon trying to update to the last micro update cs5 (in particular after effect 10.0.0.4 to 10.0.2) i get an error through th application manager.
And that is it. There is no other download link, or any info on this on the adobe site. anyone any idea on how to go about this?

Any advice would be great, hopefully I get it before the programme crashesYou can search for that error code here, you will get many hundreds of hits and something should click for you. Usually the file is being saved to a folder or a drive for which you do not have write permissions. But rtehre are dozes of other likely cuases.

I have a 32 GB iTouch that seems to have lost the touch of the screen. It initially froze, then I did a restore, re-syched etc. I try to slide the bar to get to the main screen, but it is not responding to the touch. Anything else I can try?
Did you try to set it up "as new ipod" without using the latest backup? The backup might contain damaged data causing your problem. If setting up "as new" does not work, you'll have to get it serviced.
