  • Help!  Trying to move itunes from one PC to another but iPod keeps dying

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to move my itunes from my old, sad lap top to a decent used PC. I tried to go the route of using my iPod as a hard drive to move itunes but when i'm trying to load itunes from the iPod to the new PC, the process is interrupted because the iPod loses power. Now what?? I'm goin nuts...

Once you settle on one of the options Kay provided you with, have a look at this post for some particulars:

  • Trying to move itunes from a network server but not succeeding. Help!

my work laptop is part of an exchange server network thing. I have to move my personal data from this network and so have experienced a few problems. Firstly when i moved the itunes files to my desktop away from the synched files in 'my documents' and 'my music' it deleted my whole library. I still had the files but everytime i tell itunes to add folders of music from their new location it still insists on putting the files back into 'my music' as well and thus back onto the server. I've changed the file location in the advanced settings to its new location on the desktop but its still doing the same thing. Can anyone help please?

    1 Quit iTunes.
2 Copy the entire iTunes folder including music to the another location/external drive.
    3 Restart iTunes holding (Shift-Windows, Option-Mac).
4 Select Choose library. Select the library in the folder you just moved.
5 Move the old iTunes folder to the trash but do not empty it.
6 Restart iTunes normally and verify the songs work. If they do, empty the trash.

  • Trying to transfer iTunes library on Windows to new Mac

I looked at the tutorial on how to transfer my Windows iTunes library onto a Mac and I'm having several problems. When I tried to consolidate my iPod my computer told me I don't have a enough room on my C Drive. If I can't have my whole library, that's okay, I at least want to get some of it onto the Mac because I'm leaving for five months for Europe. Second, the tutorial tells you to copy the iTunes library onto the iPod, but doesn't tell you how to do that beyond locating the folder. Once I have accomplished this (if someone will tell me) how do I transfer the music on the Mac without losing all of my music from my iPod?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I believe the best and simplest way is to use a network cable to connect the computers, if possible. Can you do this?

  • How to move iTunes from a PC to a MAC when files are in a network drive

Warning! This is my first experience with a MAC!!!
All right, I am one of those guys who has been working with PCs since the beginning of times, but my wife finally convinced me to try a MAC. So far, so good (all right, I admit it...I kind of like it...) but I need some help with my Itunes library.
I had itunes setup in a network drive when using my PC. The Network drive and folder were Z:\Music\iTunes.
I want to use iTunes with my MAC now. I do not want to change the location of the files in my external drive.
I have managed to view the external hard drive folders with the MAC. However, the name of the folder is different "WORKGROUP;WD-NETCENTER/music/iTunes" when I look at the folder info.
What do I need to do to make this work?
    Thanks in advance!

Do I download a new iTunes and the point to my external hd?
Any tips or help would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your reply.
I went to this page on the Apple Support site: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1364
I followed its instructions and it didn't work. I tried it 5 or 6 times and then i took my PC to a shop and they tried it 5 or 6 times which cost me a fortune - and i still can't get it to work.
I've checked my iTunes preferences as you said and it is set to this:
    D:\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
I've checked both folders and i've noticed both have the same information in them ie: C>USERS>CHRISMAY>MYMUSIC>iTUNES has exactly the same in it as D>MYDOCUMENTS>MYMUSIC>iTUNES - So there's a Library.xml file in each folder and a Library.itl file in each folder and an Album Artwork file in each folder etc etc. So in effect the both iTunes folders have exactly the same files in them apart from the 'iTunes Music' folder which is only located on the D Drive as this is where i want all the music to be stored.
The reason for that was that i could only get iTunes to work with my original library by copying everything from my external back up onto the C Drive. So i don't know if having duplicate folders in both iTunes folders on the C & D drive's will be causing any of the problems or not ??
Is there any chance you know why my iTunes is working on my PC and allowing me to upload music to it but it won't let my 2x iPod's or my iPhone sync with it ? If so are there any solutions i could try before i smash them all up in a fit of rage or all my hair falls out?
    Hope you can help................

  • Itunes says my music files are 6gb, my user/itunes music folder says its 23gb. I am trying to move it from old/new mac with 8gb ipod

I am trying to move my sons  library to his new mac using his 8 gb i pod as a hard drive.....
itunes 9.0.1  says his music files is only  6gb.  But when I go to transfer his itunes folder it says his music folder is 23gb.  I know I can home share transfer but his wireless is down.  Either way I am wondering
    1)  why is Music folder so large compared to my music library?
2.) Can I simply move the 6gb of music and the playlist info etc....using his 8gb ipod?
3.) Can I delete his previous library files ?

No, I have the music I want to move from the laptop to the phone selected. Then I go under file, devices, and try to click sync but it is not available to click.

How to move iTunes from one user to another on the same Windows 7 computer? Thanks, Bob

Move the iTunes library to a shared area and then into the desired location. If this isn’t the default one, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and choose that library.
