Trying to network two home computers with RT31P2

Hey everyone. I'm having a maddening time trying to network two home computers together. As it stands there are three total computers in the household. Desktop A, Desktop B, and a Laptop. As it stands, the Laptop and Desktop A can interact with each other using the "Workgroups" function. However, I can't get Desktop B to interact with either of the others. It just so happens that Desktop B is running Vista, while the other two use XP.
So to recap:
Desktop A uses XP
Desktop B uses Vista
Laptop uses XP
Using a RT31P2 Broadband Router (which the two desktops are connected to)
And a WAP54G Wireless-G access point (for the laptop)
How can I get Desktop B to interact with the other two? My main goal is for Desktop A and the Laptop to be able to connect to Desktop B to share files and use it's printer.

The very first thing you need to be able to ping the ip address of individual pc from another one & also make sure that you disable the firewalls on all the pc's & you need to enable file & printer sharing on your pc & you should be able to interact each pc from another one.

I doubt it is possible to run two instances of iTunes on the computer at the same time. To do so would require two users to be signed in and running iTunes under each user.
The better solution would be to either clean up and merge the two libraries or have iTunes running on a second computer.

After downloading 24.5.0 I get frequent "stalling" and hanging of Thunderbird, on two separate computers with McAfee

While reading mail that has already downloaded, Thunderbird seems to stall when selecting a new message, and I get a message from Windows at the top of the screen telling me that Thunderbird is not responding. If I wait a couple minutes this clears up and I can click on the next message. I can work normally for a while, then it will hang a few times, then it clears up for a while. Windows 7, 64-bit. Happens on two different computers with different apps running, different anti-virus packages, probably not all the settings are identical.

Anti-Virus Related Issues
1. McAfee AntiVirus Plus doesn't create an extension called McAfee Anti-Spam Thunderbird Extension in Tools | Addons | Extensions as noted in the web article. Nothing there. It does create two other plugins in Tools | Addons | Plugins. One is called McAfee Security Center and the other is called McAfee Virtual Technician. Disabling either had no impact upon mail performance. Yes, I closed the application and restarted it after turning the plugins off to be sure that they weren't still running.
2. Disabling attachment scanning didn't seem to have any impact, but I may have to wait until I get some significant attachments to tell for sure on that.
Routine Sysadmin Chores:
1. Yes, using POP. One computer does not remove mail from the server, the other does, daily. There is no significant build up of old mail on the server. Also, nothing changed in this regard from before installing 24.5.0.
2. I do archive mail, but mostly I clean out the folders. There is not a big accumulation of email in folders, particularly on the machine running McAfee. Regardless, this hasn't changed since I installed 24.5.0.
3. I empty junk and spam folders several times a day on whichever computer is being used, and compact regularly. There is no build up in those folders.
On the bright side, both systems seem to be doing better with mail this morning, before doing anything at all to try and fix the problem. I am going to let this sit for a few days and see how it performs.

I have my itunes set up on two different computers with different apps. Today I am getting an iPhone, can I syn it to both computers?

I am receiving a new iPhone today and was hoping to be able to sync it to my laptop and desktop. I have iTunes on both computers but my apps are on my desktop? Is it possible to syn the the two computers with the one iTunes account?

An IPhone can be synched to one iTunes library only. So you'll have to copy all your content to one of the computers and use only that system for synching your iPhone.

Place it in recovery mode by:
Placing your device into recovery mode

Home Network and Home Group with HH3

Can anybody help me with this. My families various computers (win 7 and apple) and access the internet OK but none can see the other on either the Network or on the HomeGroup. All have same workgroup name. The HH3 manager can see all the computers and their mac addresses but for some reason is not allowing them to communicate together. BT Broadband Help shows the wired computers and the pc that is running the help but none of the other wireless pcs.
Next step it to disconnect the HH3 box and plug in a DLink box I have but I would rather get the HH3 to work since I am paying for it. BT say that they do not support home networking!

If any are on wireless, I would check the firewalls to ensure they are not showing the wireless as a public network. I use Kaspersky and it always seems to set the wireless as public and therefore limits access/use etc.

Networking 2 Home computers?

I have followed all the instuctions I have found. I linked the 2 computers ethernet to ethernet. I turned on both personal file sharing and apple talk. When I go to Network, I can see computer A (G4) from computer B (G5) and vice versa. However, I am receiveing the following error message when I try to connect from either direction: "This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally."
I don't know what this means and I can't find where to access the files.
What I'm really trying to do is have complete access to both harddrives from the same computer setup... only one moniter. I want to set up the G5 as the primary computer and be able to access the harddrives from the G4. Is this even the way to do that?

I am assuming that you still have a keyboard/mouse/monitor for the second machine.
Target disk mode will work for this, but you will still need the k/m/m unless you plan to leave it on all of the time.
Another way to do this that I had to use at work on two Minis running Panther is to set up a second account on the G4 to match the account from the G5 and give it Admin privileges (can only set two Admin accounts). When you log in thru the network you should see all files on the drive. (I found this workaround in the Apple knowledge base, but I can't find the link now.) OS X is built to use a dropbox for security, which can be a major pain. To open and work on files from the G4 on the G5 you will have to set permissions on the G4, or copy them to the G5. (If you save them back to the G4 and try to open from that machine you will have to set permissions allowing it from the G5.)
If you are sure that you want to only use one k/m/m buy a usb KVM switch or pull the drive and install it in the G5 as a slave or in an enclosure. Or buy an external drive if you do not want to gut the G4.

I tried to download the free IE version 9 available with yahoo as my home page(because it's easier for me to use.) It said my computer won't except that version but will take the Micro soft version 8, so I downloaded it that way. Now the home page won't load because it read yahoo.com/http abd Mozilla doesn't recognize this as a proper site.. I deleted the file in my computer but still can't open my home page now.I think Mozilla already updated itself and now I see I need to renew my macafee security as well.

You're right about IE9: it requires Vista or Windows 7. IE8 is the latest IE for Windows XP.
Usually updating IE has no effect on Firefox, so I'm not sure what happened there. I assume you got an official download directly from Microsoft, but if not, perhaps it was customized by someone else? (I don't really trust unofficial versions.)

I currently have adobe illustrator adobe app which I downloaded and receive updates from on one computer. I would like to upgrade to the full cloud version and use on two computers in my home under the single cloud subscription. Is this possible?

Password Problems when trying to network two macs

Hi, every time I try to network my MacBook Pro (running 10.5) to my G4 FW800 (running 10.4) as a Registered user I get asked for a password. No matter how many times I put in what I think is the correct password it keeps telling me it's the wrong password. The passwords I'm using are the same ones I use when asked to allow installs and other system operations on each machine - I even tried using opposing passwords the G4 on the MacBook and vice versa) Obviously there is a another, secret password that I know nothing about and I'm buggered if I know what it is, where it is or, how to change it.. Can any one PLEASE PLEASE help me here??????

OSX is designed to handle multiple users, and each user account (normally) has a password. Since there can be many user accounts (I have at least 3), you log into a specific account with it's password. You can also set a preference to automatically log in, which sounds like what you have done.
When you first set up your machine, did you specify a password? When you install applications, what password do you use to authenticate as an administrator? The password that you set up for a user account on a particular machine is the one you need to use when connecting to that account from a remote machine.

Both compuers share the same apple id. will itunes match synch all the devices with the same library? If so do I only need one itunes match purchase or do I need one for each computer? Just create a new account. On one iPod go to Settings>iTunes and App stores and sing out and sign in with other account. Same for Settings>iCloud and Settings Messages. Also go to Settings>Face time and add the new iD email addrss as the Caling email address and delete the other one.
- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.
- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
