Trying to Open Downloaded Program on Desktop

After I download igadget onto my desktop, I am not able to open it becuase it says: "The document "igadget1400.exe" could not be opened. Script Editor cannot open files in the "Script Editor Docuent" format."
Any Ideas? I just want to be able to download this program.

Second this. I have several programs that I simply have to have for which there are no Mac versions or equivalents. For this reason, I have a windoze peecee sitting next to my Mac, taking up space that I would love to use for something else. The idea of being able to run these apps on my Mac is sufficient motivation for me to plan on replacing my beloved G5 with a new Mac Pro. I will most certainly wait until my other "critical" apps (Photoshop, inDesign, etc.) are released in stable universal versions but that's the only thing holding me back at this point. But to run windoze on my Mac for some dippy ipod thing?...NOT!

Reader tries to open every program

After installation of reader 11.0.03 I cannot open or run any program but pdf. Always the reader tries to open the program and all the icons are adobe readers.Uninstall solves the problem, but then I cannot open pdf files...seems to be a "catch-22" situation...

If you are downloading .exe files, those are Windows programs, and will not run on your Mac unless you install Windows on it. (That is possible, if you need one of those apps.)

Please try the following:
The path listed below points to the Library folder at the root of your startup disk, not the Library folder in your user home folder.
Delete all the files from following folders:
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SL Store/
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/SL cache/
And, delete all files from following folder except cache.db
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PCD/
Then launch Acrobat, Accept EULA and enter the serial number again and check.

Adobe tries to open all programs and con not be uninstall

Hi, I am using Windows XP and I installed Adobe Reader X 10.1.3 But after I installed Adobe, I could not open any files except the ones on desktop. I can not use any of them from Start or Control Panel. I tried to uninstall Adobe from Control Panel>Default Programs>Program Install/Unistall but still tries to open with Adobe. Is there any other way that I can uninstall?

It seems that the file association for .exe and .cpl may have been corrupted (and are now pointing to Adobe Reader).
Can you open Windows Explorer, or does it give you the same problem?
When did this start? Can you possibly do a System Restore to a date before it started?
This may be quite difficult to solve if you cannot open any .exe or .cpl files.

Problem opening downloaded programs.

I've tried downloading programs like Mojo, Openoffice, neo office but after the download when I click to open the file an error message comes up saying not recognized. I bought my computer 3 months ago. When I download songs or anything this problem doesn't arise.

A couple of things to try:
- Repair permissions using Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder) - click on your hard drive on the left side of the Disk Utility window and click Repair Permissions on the lower right.
- Download the program using another browser (if you used Safari, try Firefox, and vice versa)

Downloaded programs mount desktop drives

So I got my iMac a couple days ago. It's used and running Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I noticed whenever I open a program I downloaded from the Internet, mainly Minecraft and Skype, each program mounts a drive on the desktop that I can't get rid of until I close the program and eject the drive by dragging it to the Dock. Also, when I open Minecraft.dmg I get the original window that tells me to drag it to the Applications folder which I then have to close. Can anyone tell me how to turn this off or get rid of it as it's getting REALLY annoying?

It's supposed to do that initially. If you don't want the windows and drives to keep appearing, drag the applications to the Applications folder and launch them from there; if desired, you can also drag the copies in the Applications folder to the Dock.

I have a program called commission killer that I have downloaded and I can't open it because it says compileBot has stopped working. It then tells me to either close the program or have Windows look for a solution and then it closes without any solution. I want to be able to use this program and yet I don't know what to do to correct this. I have deleted it closed the firewall and the security program AVG but that didn't work either when I redownloaded the program. Any suggestions>?

I updated Firefox, now every time I click on the Dock image my Mac reloads the disc image on my desktop and tells me this is the first time I've tried to open the program. What's going on? This is very annoying.

I contacted Sony, who spent 90 minutes trying to help me fix this, to be told it is a problem with the program, not the computer. I have deleted every trace of the program then reloaded it, three times, with the same results every time. This all started when I added a bunch of 'extras' from Mozilla. These 'add-ons' remain in the program when it is reloaded, so they may be the problem.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

Can't open downloaded program

Mac virgin here, I just dumped Windows and switched over a couple of days ago. My old pc died, so I've downloaded a program that will enable me to transfer tunes from my ipod into itunes on my new mac. Problem is, when I click on the saved program, nothing happens, I can't get the program to open. I've tried opening from my desktop, and from applications with no luck. What am I doing wrong??

Yes, Apps that you drag and drop into the Apps folder are pretty self contained. So just drag it to the trash and empty. There is also a .plist file in ~user/Library/Preferences, usually com.name-of-app.plist. You can drag that to the trash also.

Firefox failed to initialize upon trying to open the program

Firefox will not open, program has warning come up stating Firefox failed to initialize click ok to terminate the program. Firefox will not even open, and I updated it as well. Sill won't open. Cannot access any portion of the firefox as it keeps saying failed to initialize click ok to terminate the program, no other option is on the warning. It is just not opening. I don't know how to fix it as firefox won't open. Using internet explorer to relay the program isn't working.

Can't Open Downloaded Programs

Very wierd. Since upgrading to SL I can't open .dmg's of applications downloaded to the computer. Any ideas?

Though it showed finished downloading it may be incomplete or corrupted, if you right click it is it the correct size? Also try right clicking and select run as administrator.
I have an A135-S2256 running Windows 7 with only 2 GiG of ram. Mine runs Nero fine but it is real slow doing it, the video graphics is not so good on these old laptops and I have had it fail to convert some video like flash to ntsc at times.
