Trying to organize iPhone contacts, but phonetic field causing issue.

I have 1900 contacts in iCloud synced to my iphone 6.  A little over half of them sort alphabetically in the A-Z directory.  The other half sort alphabetically under "#" at the bottom of directory.  The contacts under "#" have the fields for phonetic first/last names, but the other half (that sorted A-Z in directory) do not.  If I add the phonetic first/last names to the contact under "#" it will now be sorted in the A-Z directory above "#".
1) Is Apple going to tell me I have to manually add phonetic names to nearly 1000 contacts to have them sort correctly in the A-Z directory?
2) Where and when did this phonetic crap come about?  I've had iPhones since they first came out and NEVER even saw this field (nor had trouble sorting contacts) until ios8.

try:
1) reboot your iphone
2) resync your iphone (rem to tick sync contacts... if that's what you usually do)
the SIM issue should never happen cause iPhone doesn't read contacts directly from SIM (correct me if i'm wrong... not 100% sure about this point)~

  • Trying to activtae Iphone 4 but getting a message saying that already activated

    HI
I'm trying to activtae Iphone 4 but getting a message saying that already activated on October 4th, I received the phone on October 20th. Any idea wht can be the issue ?

    Hello madvish,
Congratulations on your new iPhone!  I recommend the following steps when encountering an activation error:
    Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
    Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.

I need to Sync/change my iPhone contacts but I can't select "Selected Groups"...?

This is what worked for me. Turned off icloud on iphone and computer. Logged into my icloud account at icloud.com via my web browser and deleted all of my contacts and calendars. I was then able to select selected contacts and selected calendars in iTunes.

  • Trying to backup iPhone 4 but getting two bad options?

My friend's got an iPhone 4 w/ iOS 4.3 on it. He apparently never hooked it up to iTunes before (or if he did, it may have been once).
He wants to go out to get an iPhone 5 but we need to back it up first. However, when we plug in to my Mac and iTunes loads, it gives two options:
-> setting it up as a new phone, or
-> restoring from a previous back up.
option two is clearly a no-go as he doesn't want to lose years of data, photos, texts, etc.
however, from what I have read here:
    http://www.fettesps.com/how-to-fix-itunes-set-up-your-iphone-error/
it seems like option 1 will do what we need and only lose his music which he doesn't care.
that all being said, it's a scary option as losing his info is also a non-started.
Can anyone confirm that  "setting it up as a new phone" will in fact not erase things but only rename it and re-activate it?
    Thanks.

It is not call "RESTORE" as new, it's called SetUp as new. That link about backing up is completely irrelevent. It has no option to back up. It's a phone that's been used to 2 years, works perfectly, but can not get to a typical backup screen and is stuck as listed above:
However, when we plug in to my Mac and iTunes loads, it gives two options:
-> setting it up as a new phone, or
-> restoring from a previous back up.
There are the only two options and no way to get it to any other way.

  • HT1296 trying to sync iPhone contacts to mac book pro

I am trying to sync my iphone 5s contacts to my mac book pro. I am told to go to itunes and click the sync contacts tab but my itunes window doesnt have a sync contacts tab

I understand that there should be a 'sync' button somewhere in iCloud/calendar.
Mine doesn't have any reference at all to sync..  so how did we do that again?
I have OS X 10.9.1 on my iMac
I have apparently no other way of syncing calendars across all devices... right?
If not right, how can this be done? (since iCloud doesn't seem to have a built-in sync option...)
Before Mavericks, we did have that option, as I recall...

  • Why can't I send messages to some iPhone contacts, but can to others?

Just started using messages on my iPad. Tried my wife's iPhone, but won't work (not registered). Other contacts, no problem.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

WEll, I send messages to everyone on my iphone, just cant get certain ones  on the ipad.  Only 4 or 5 people so far can get my messages and respond on ipad.   All the  people have iphones and I use facetime to talk to them, but no imessages.....frustrating.  I have read all the articles and tried my best.   I might go straight to the apple store locally, and see if they can help me.

  • HT4623 I tried updating my iphone 5c, but it didn't have enough space and it disabled my iphone. What do I do?

I didn't realize that my iphone has already been updated to that ios 7 thing. I tried to update it so that I could redo all my music selection to make more space for my TV shows on it, but it failed and my iphone 5c was disabled with only a picture of my charger plug and an arrow pointing to the itunes logo. Now that the update was incomplete, my itunes on my computer failed to recognize the device and even when I have taken it out of my computer, the image still stays on my iphone. It won't go away no matter how many times I restart my phone. I need to get it back to normal and get this stupid picture off the screen. How can I fix it?

Sounds like your iPhone is in recovery mode as the update failed. You will now need to restore the iPhone to factory settings with iTunes on a computer. If your iPhone is not being recognised by your computer read one of the articles below based on your computers OS:

  • HT201413 i have tried resetting my iphone 4 but keep getting an error code at the end (34)

I HAVE AN IPHONE 4, I HAVE TRIED RESETTING THE PHONE BUT KEEP GETTING AN ERROR CODE AT THE END OF THE RESET ie;34, ANY IDEAS PLEASE

I'm not certain thats the problem. I stopped antivirus, I set screensaver to NOT trigger and yet it took me FOUR DAYS to completely sync my ipod touch. Stupid me decided to try it with the iPad and guess what...it's been three days and STILL timing out.
I don't think Steve Jobs died; I think they upgraded him to iOS5, he crashed and they could not restore him.
THIS UPGRADE *****. They rushed it out the door to get the fancy-dancy voice command thing on the iphones and yet that feature does not help ipod or ipad users.

  • I'm trying to add a contact, but cannot see the plus sign.  How do get to that screen?

Hello, I'm trying to add a new contact to my Ipad 2 manually, but do not see the plus sign.  I added one contact, now I can't seem to add anymore.  The Manual refers to making sure I'm in the correct view, but I'm not sure what that means.  Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank you,

I haven't read the manual so I 'm not sure what "correct view" is referring to.  When I add a contact there's a plus sign at the bottom left hand page.

  • TS3694 I've tried to sync my iPhone 3GS, but it'll sync a little and then disconnect when almost done; I get error message 1015, and I don't know what to do. Everything else is fine, my iTunes info is up to date, and so is my OS, ect.

I've tried syncing my iPhone 3GS, but it'll stop when the sync is nearly complete, and the sync is interrupted with an error message reading "Error 1015". I've already tried all of the other things suggested by iTunes (ensuring that my OS is up-to-date, disconnecting other USB cables, ect.), yet this problem persists. Help...

5.0.2 has not been released, thus you can not upgrade.

  • HT201210 restoring iphone 4, but keep getting error 2001 message

i am trying to restore iphone 4, but it wont let me, it keeps giving error message 2001, please help me anyone

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

  • Byte-range request issue when trying to submit - hosted on Tindeck, is this the issue?

    Hi there,
I'm trying to submit a podcast, but having a few issues. It's the first time I've tried to do this and I'm geting a little confused with all the jargon - and there was me thinking I was pretty tech-savvy!
I've set up a Wordpress.com blog (http://every80smovie.wordpress.com/) and then set up a feed on Feedburner (http://feeds.feedburner.com/every80smovie) from that. My audio mp3s are hosted on Tindeck - the first episode can be found at http://tindeck.com/listen/xryo, but I used the Wordpress audio code to place an embedded player on the blog page that links to the Tindeck download link.
From what I can see there are a number of podcasts that seem to host on Tindeck and are listed on iTunes - however, whenever I try to submit my podcast I'm told that the episodes are on a server which doesn't support byte-range requests. I'm guessing Tindeck does because of the other podcasts on there, but I'm now getting really bemused.
I can subscribe to my podcast using the Advanced tab on iTunes, so I know that side works. Can anybody help at all? Does anybody have any experience with Tindeck?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

When your episode URL is entered in the address bar of a browser it downloads the file; although this works OK in the iTunes application when subscribing, downloading sometimes works in the Store and sometimes doesn't. Really you should provide a direct link to the file which when enter it in a browser, plays in the browser. I don't know whether Tindeck offers this as an alternative.
Testing for byte-range requests doesn't suggest this is handled - as it's downloading it probably wouldn't in any case. Byte range requests, which consists of requesting parts of the file at a time rather than the whole thing, is the method used by the iPhone and Apple have made it mandatory for new podcasts; if they detect that your server doesn't handle it they will reject your submission. (Other podcasts using Tindeck may have been up before this came into force, or perhaps they've found a way to get Tindeck to serve the files properly.)
