Trying to Output Sound to Speakers and TV Simultaneously on H8-1360t

Hi everyone -
I have an HP H8-1360t with an AMD HD 7570 video card, running Windows 7 64-bit.  I have speakers hooked up to the on-board sound via a standard 3.5mm cable.  I run DVI to my monitor and HDMI to my TV.  I am trying to get sound to go to the speakers and the TV simultaneously, without having to keep swapping the default playback device.  I tried the following that I found online:
Open Sound panel
Select Speakers as the default playback device
Go to the "Recording" tab
Right click and enable "Show Disabled Devices"
A recording device called "Wave Out Mix", "Mono Mix" or "Stereo Mix" (this was my case) should appear
Right click on the new device and click "Enable"
Right click on the new device and click "Set as Default Device"
Double click on the new device to open the Properties window
Go to the "Listen" tab
Click on the "Listen to this device" checkbox
Select your HDMI device from the "Playback through this device" list
This worked the first time I tried it and I was getting audio through both the PC speakers and from the TV.  Since then, it no longer works and I am only get audio via one or the other, depending on what device I select as my default.  It's more of an annoyance than anything else - having to manually switch between output devices every time I want to watch something on my TV instead of my monitor.  I assumed I could get dual audio output and simply not turn on the PC speakers when I wanted to watch something on the TV and it worked the first time!  I don't understand why it is no longer working.  Thoughts?
TIA!

Thanks for the reply!
I believe that the answer is answer is yes to both questions - it defintely worked the first time.  I'm not sure if I tried it on the first reboot or not but it did not work the next time I tried it.  As far as what may have changed - I have no clue?!?  I do not see that the 7570 or the Beats audio had any updates.  According to Device Manager, I am running the latest IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver.
i did notice a couple of things tonight.  The video I used as a test the other day, that had audio and video going simultaneously on both displays, is displaying video on both the monitor and TV today but no audio on the TV.  That said, when I open up the Sound control panel, and click on the AMD HDMI Output, right-click, and click "test", I do get test "beeps" through my TV (while the audio from my video is running through my PC speakers).  So, it appears that it is indeed capable of outputting sound to both the PC speakers (via the onboard sound) and the TV (via the HDMI) - just not the same sound anymore!  Another thing I noticed is that when I go to the Recording tab, the Stereo Mix selection is noted as the Default Device, and I can watch the "meter" on the right move up and down in sync with the volume of the video I am playing back - only there is no sound via the TV.
As usual, when I switch to the HDMI Audio Output as the Default Device, the sound plays fine on my TV.
This is strange...

  • Sound Blaster Z Series - Outputting audio on speakers and headphones at same time?

    Hey all,
I got a Zx at the beginning of the year as a gift and really liking it so far. Finally got around to hooking up speakers to it and they sound good, but I wasn't getting any output from them at first. Then I realized you have to switch in the SB control panel between them and the headphones; also downloaded the SBZ Switcher which definitely helps with quick switches.
Question though, is there any way to enable output on both speakers and headphones at the same time? Based on what I've read, the switching is done by a relay in the card so I'm guessing it's impossible for both of them to be engaged at the same time. Though if this was doable, it would be awesome to have outputs for both the channels and configure some software to use one or the other. It'd be nice to listen to music on the speakers while routing other stuff through the headphones. If all else fails, maybe I can get Creative to RMA the Titanium HD that this card replaced and run dual sound cards; that should definitely work =D.
    Cheers and thanks in advance!

Yes, that's right. And I want to switch simply between speakers and headphones. Only one with sound, the other mute. At the moment, when I plug in my headphones, the speakers becomes mute. That's ok, but . I always want to let my headphones connected and 2.1 when I switch sound to the speakers, the sound also comes out of the headphones. It's not possbile to mute the headphones only. There must be a way.

  • New headset, but certain programs are transmitting sound through speakers and not headphones.

    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    Hello,
    Hello,
I just recently purchased a new headset for gaming but have been having some issues with it and the system sound. One major issue is when I call someone on skype, the sound from Skype or the call will go through the headphones, but any other audio comes out of the speakers. I have also notices that iTunes also does not function when I am in a call as well. Some examples would be if I were to want to watch a YouTube video while in a call, the sound would come through the speakers and not the headphones. However, I did find a fix for it. All I had to do was disable the main speakers and the audio was transmitted to the headphones. Another example would be if I wanted to run games via Steam (Garry's Mod, TF2, ect.), I wouldn't get any sound whatsoever from the game. Not through my speakers or headphones. With one exception, Garry's Mod volume I can hear through the speakers while in a Skype call, but I want the sound to come through the headphones. But with TF2, I get no sound whatsoever. If you need any more information about my issue, please feel free to ask. Thank you.

    Hello @LayneStaley,
Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I have read your post on how certain programs are transmitting sound through speakers and not the headphones, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To ensure that your headphones are utilized when plugged into your notebook, I recommend following the steps below:
    1. Click the Start button
    2. Click Control Panel
    3. Click on Hardware and Sound (sorting the control panel icons by "category"), and then click on Sound
    4. Under Playback, you should see one or two speaker icons. One of them should already have a green checkmark next to it (which will be your notebook's main speakers). If the second Speakers icon is not visible, right-click in the list of devices and select Show Disabled Devices
    5. A second, disabled icon of "speakers" should appear. Right-click this icon and click Enable
    6. Select the newly enabled speaker device, right-click it, and select "Set as Default Device".
    7. Click Apply.
Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

  • Suddenly no sound from speakers and only from headphones

    Hello,
    I have a HP 8440p VQ664ET#ABU Elitebook laptop running Windows7 64bit pro.
Since today I'm experiencing the following problem:
    1) no sound is heard through speakers when headphones are disconnected.
    2) If I connect the headphones, the sounds are heard correctly through them: this is the expected behavior
I don't think it's a speakers hardware problem because I can make the speakers play sounds for one or two seconds like this: while a sound is being played, such as music file for instance, if I move up and down the headset volume cursor (regardless if headphones are connected or not) I can hear the played sound through the laptop speakers for a few seconds, after which the speakers mute again.
    So to summarize:
    1) Headphones disconnected: no sound from speakers
    2) Headphones connected: sound from headphones
I rebooted, suspended and restored without any luck so far.
I'm under the impression that there might be a problem with the headphone jack: it is like the laptop always thinks that the headphones are connected and therefore cuts the output to the speakers.
    Any clues?
    Thanks
    Sergio

  • My Iphone 4s has no sound from speakers and no text tones.

There is a red tag in the dock indicating water contact.
I cannot work out how this is. I have never used the phone in the rain and if i did i would expect the red tag to be in the headphone port.
I carry my phone at all times in my jacket pocket.
I never use the phone to listen to music in bathroom or shower.
It has never been near spills or dipped into my cup of morning coffee.
So.....how do I prove this to Apple and get a replacement??? Everything else works, just no sound from music and texts etc.
Done a restore and doesnt work.
    HELP!

    Hello,
Sorry about your situation. We do shell out some money for this phone (some more than others) but at the end of the day we are humans and these phones are also made by workers that cannot even afford and iPhone. Don't blame Apple (blame Foxconn?).
I normally use the vibrate with the Bluetooth headset and send the audio through the Bluetooth speaker, so this is not a big issue for me. However if your settings are correct they can verify this issue at the store immediately but not sure about the turn around but the Apple genius should have some estimate.
Hope the the Bluetooth can help.

  • Does the video adapter output both S-Video and Composite simultaneously?

I have a multi-zone receiver which converts S-Video to component for the main zone and passes S-Video signals through to zone 2 but does not convert them to composite which is how that zone is set up. I solved a similar problem with my DVD player by connecting both the component output and composite output of the DVD player to the receiver allowing high quality viewing in the lounge room and passable viewing in the bedroom.
I realise the quality from the adapter is questionable particularly for composite but I'm still interested if both S-Video and composite signals are output from the MBP 17" via the adapter simultanesouly.
    Thanks,
    Max.

I have a follow-up question which may help answer the original question. Does the MBP have to detect the external display when connected via S-Video/Composite in the same way that it has to when connected via DVI? My Dell notebook had so much trouble detecting composite and S-Video connections that eventually I gave up so I'm a little "once bitten twice shy" on this. If the MBP doesn't attempt to detect the external display via S-Video or composite then it must output both S-Video and Composite signals continuously (which would be great).
    Thanks,
    Max.

  • No sound through speakers, and LOUD hissing through headphones - Inspiron 3537

    Hi,
So yesterday the sound on my laptop's internal speakers stopped working, and when I plug the headphones in there is a loud hissing noise - way too loud to be able to stand when trying to listen to something, though I can hear the audio as well.  The volume of the hissing is not affected by the volume control on the laptop but the actual audio can be made louder.  Have also tried running the audio test in the EPSA diagnostic, and I cannot hear anything.  Anyone have any ideas?
I have a Dell Inspiron I5, model 3537.  Have had it less than 18 months so if it is a hardware failure I am extremely disappointed in the manufacturing quality.  Had my previous Philips laptop for six years and never had a problem like this!

    MikeT_1983
Have also tried running the audio test in the EPSA diagnostic, and I cannot hear anything.
Hello. Failure to hear tones through the speakers during the ePSA audio quick test means that the speakers have either become disconnected or failed. I don't know if you would want to take the laptop apart to check the connection, but if so there is a manual available with complete disassembly instructions.
Harder to account for the loud hissing. If you currently have the Realtek audio driver installed, switch over to the Windows native driver and see if it makes a difference.
    1. Open the Device Manager (type devmgmt.msc in the Windows search box).
    2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".
    3. Select to "Update Driver Software".
    4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
    5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
    6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.
    7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio Device" (the native driver).
    8. Click "Next".
    9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver).
    10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver,  do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]

  • Sound from speakers AND headphones

I'm getting sound out of the speakers when I plug in headphones on my G5. It goes mute when I first plug in the headphones, but then comes back on. If I go into System Prefs, it shows the headphones as being the line out. Also, if I click the Digital Out, it still comes out of the speakers. The speakers are JBL Creatures. Any ideas?

I have same exact problem, Did u contact to HP support? wat did they say?
Even HP support couldn't help me.... they asked me to troubleshoot in all ways and asked me to format but still i have that problem. They couldn't even replace or exchange my product(ENVY 4 Touchsmart 1215dx).
    Possible reasons why this happen:
    1. Hard drive isn't fast enough.
    2. Audio drivers not properly installed.
    3.VIA Chipset issue.
    4.Soundcard problem.
For me 1 & 2 are fine, so problem is between 3or 4 may be both.
Try to check where problem exsits from above 4 points

  • Sound through speaker and headphones

The sound from my Nano 5th generation comes through the speakers and headphones simultaneously.  I have tried 3 sets of headphones
and the plug goes fully into the socket atr the base of the Nano.
This happened initially over 11 months ago and seem to rectify itself, but now it's back.  Any thoughts about how I can resolve this.
    Thank you.

    A reset should fix it:
Double click the Home button. Slide up with one finger on ALL your apps to close them.
Then, Press the Sleep/Wake button + Home button and hold 15 seconds or until you see the Apple logo.
This will reset your device without erasing data, apps or settings.

My Ipod mini syncs, but when I go to play, no sound.  I've tried multiple speakers and headphones. No Go.  What next?
My latest problem is that the Apple site will not recognize my equipment by it's serial number.  I know the mini is old, but I like what it did for me and don't necessarily want to "upgrade".

This is the iPad in the Enterprise forum. You'll be more likely to get help with your issue if you ask in the appropriate iPod forum.

I used the headphones in the laptop for the first time yesterday and have had this problem ever since. Any ideas

The internal switch in the audio output port is stuck.  Try inserting the earphone plug a few times.  If no success, try jiggling a tooth pick inside in order to trip the switch.. If still no success, have the technicians at the Apple store genius bar do it for you.
    Ciao.

  • I have no sound for games in my iPad. I have tried the reset but it does not work. The speakers work as I have sound for music and videos.

I have no sound for games in my iPad. I have tried the reset but it does not work. The speakers work as I have sound for music and videos.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430 It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

been looking for something a bit like it got an old ipod thouch in a audio dock in the kitchen and want to give it access to all my music not just play what is synced
so far my only options is to get an app to use upnp to get the music directly from my nas
or get some app which require the computer to be running and running some program to handle it
and as far as I can tell getting access to stuff synced on the atv is a no go
