Trying to pair my iphone 4 to my imac

so i just bought an imac today and out of curiosity i decided to try to pair my iphone 4 to the imac. it registers and says that its paired but will not connect...the blue tooth sharing is on on the imac and bluetooth is on on the iphone. if i to connect on the iphone it gives me the little spinning wheel then just goes back to saying not connected. during this if you watch the mac it says in the settings that its connected for a second then it goes back to not connected.. any ideas?

Unless things have changed (and the user guide doesn't say differently) Bluetooth on the iPhone is for hands-free headsets, headphones, car kits and the Apple Wireless keyboard, along with certain iPhone apps. I believe it can also be used for Internet tethering, but I'm not entirely certain.

If you were hoping to transfer files via Bluetooth, that is not possible at this time.

    Do you mean Bluetooth?
If you are trying to activate your iPhone you need to use iTunes.
There's no need to "pair" an iPhone with a Mac. Syncing, restoring, backing up, apps/ music / photos etc., is all done with iTunes.

  • HT1689 I am trying to pair my iPhone with my mac computer at home via bluetooth, but I am getting a message that iMac is not supported. Can someone help troubleshoot this problem

How can I pair my iPhone 4 to my computer via bluetooth?

Actually you can if you have tethering on your phone. I tether via bluetooth with my macbook air all the time. It will only pair if you have tethering turned on and if your carrier supports it. Otherwise it will not pair.

  • I am trying to pair my iphone 5 with an iphone 4 using bluetooth, neither phone recognises the other-Why?

Can somebody please help me: I have recently upgraded from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5, I want to transfer my pictures from my new phone from the old phone using bluetooth. However, neither phone recognises the other-Why Not? I can pair my iPhone 5 with my Ford S-Max easily but cannot pair with my old phone. I would really appreciate somebody telling me what, if anything, I am doing wrong. Although just switching on bluetooth is easy. Both phones continually show 'searching' but do not actually find one another even though they are side by side. Any help would be much appreciated.

This has never been a feature of the iphone, ipod touch or ipad.
    File transfer is not supported.
Iphone supports bluetooth for stereo headsets/speakers, handsfree telephone devices/headsets, some keyboards, some peer-to-peer apps from the app store, adn internet tethering where provided by the carrier.
Other than this it will not connect to another phone, computer ,device

  • HT3887 I am trying to  pair my iphone 4 to my 2011 Kluger KX-R.  I have turned bluetooth on my phone but it keeps searching for devices and can not find any.  My computer can find my phone but my phone can not find my computer.

I am trying to pair my phone to my 2011 Toyota kluger KX-R.  I have turned bluetooth on my phone but it keeps searching for devices and can not find any, including my computer.

No worries. Often after iTunes updates you have to reconnect your device in order for iTunes to see it. Happens to me all the time!

  • I can't pair my iPhone with my iMac

    Iphone 5S IOS 8.1.1
IMac 21.5 late 2013 running on OS X Yosemite 10.10.1
trying to bluetooth pair iPhone with IMac
first open Bluetooth preferences on both devices. iPhone and iMac, are discoverable The device appears on iMac bluetooth menu. I click "pair" and a message with a code appears on my Mac. The code is the same on both devices and when i tap pair it initially says connected and then almost immediately after it says "Not Connect" and on the iPhone it says Connection Unseccessful "iPhone" in not supported. Then it says i must forget Device.
I have paired both my mouse and keyboard to iMac.
On my iMac i have the bluetooth working for both the keyboard and the mouse.
On my iPhone i have the bluetooth working with my car and speakers
thus bluetooth hardware is not the issue.

  • Has anyone tried to pair the iphone with a 2006 Lexus GX470?

before opening the package I would like to know if anyone has been able to use the bluetooth capabilities of the iphone with a 2006 Lexus. Was you able to pair the phone to the car's bluetooth technology?

OK I do not have a Lexus, but I have a 2004 Prius with Nav and Bluetooth and as I understand it the Bluetooth is the same. It took me like 45 seconds to do it. I did not touch a manual. Go to the phone and then the set up. In my car it gives you the default password. Go to the settings-> Network -> Bluetooth on the iPhone type in the password and you are in. Uploading you phone book is another issue but can be done from you Mac or PC with Bluetooth or with a older Bluetooth phone.

  • Seems my macbook air's bluetooth cannot sustain pairing with other devices. It shuts off right away. Been trying to pair my iPhone 6 with it but it keeps disconnecting. I can't use my airdrop. My air is a 2011 11 inch with serial number

My Macbook air's bluetooth does not sustain paring with my iPhone 6 so I cannot use my airdrop. Is there something wrong with my mac's bluetooth or is there something I need to do to activate it? My iPhone's control center has its airdrop open on everyone and with bluetooth open.
    <Personal Information Removed by Host>

Both devices need to have their Bluetooth on, but they need not (and indeed cannot) pair.
A MacBook Air can communicate to an iPhone using AirDrop.  Both devices would have Bluetooth on without pairing as I described.  But actually if you have a mid-2011 MacBook Air, that computer is too old to communicate that way, so you are out of luck.

  • TS1398 I can't pair my Iphone 4s to my 2012 ford escape the sync does not appear

I am trying to pair my iphone 4s to Ford Escape. The sync button does not show up. Any suggestions?

    Hello lolifar,
I found a couple of resources that have steps to troubleshoot issues with connecting your iPhone with a car stereo.
I recommend reviewing the section titled "Features and app interaction>Bluetooth" in the following article:
    iOS: Troubleshooting car stereo connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3581
I also recommend following these steps:
Unable to find nearby Bluetooth accessories
If a pairing record already exists, the device does not appear as discoverable. Try to connect the device using that pairing record.
If you are unable to connect using the existing pairing record, delete the record and pair again.
Ensure that the firmware or software on the Bluetooth accessory is up to date.
Ensure that the Bluetooth accessory is charged or connected to power.
Verify that the Bluetooth accessory is using a profile that works with the iOS device.
Turn off both the iOS device and the Bluetooth accessory, then turn both devices on again.
If the issue persists, test Bluetooth with another device or consult the manufacturer's documentation.

  • Can't pair my iPhone 5 to windows 7 using Bluetooh, any Advice?

I'm trying to pair my iPhone 5 to my laptop that has windows 7 64 Bit installed on it by Bluetooth to use iPhone tethering. Everytime I try, it pops up "Device Driver software was not successfully installed" and it shows "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" not installed.
Note: I have an iPad Mini and it paired perfectly with my laptop.
I don't know what should i do, my iPhone is updated to the latest version, my windows and drivers are also up-to-date.
    Thanks in Advance

OK, you must have a cellular iPad then if you were able to share its connection with your laptop.
Is your iPhone connected to a Wi-Fi network when you're trying to connect your laptop to it?  The iPhone can't share a Wi-Fi connection, only a cellular connection, so if it is connected via Wi-Fi it can't be a hotspot.
Does your laptop have Wi-Fi capability?  Have you tried sharing your hotspot over Wi-Fi rather than Bluetooth?
Not sure what else to recommend other than what's in that support article above.

  • I am having problems pairing my iphone 4s to my mac

I am trying to pair my iphone 4s with my mac...After I pair my phone with my mac, the message says it's successful...But looking at both my phone and mac, they both say "not connected"  Help

Are both your iPhone and Mac connected to WiFi? Having your iPhone using data and your Mac using WiFi could mess up the sync. Also check that both your iPhone and Mac are running the most current operating systems, as one needing an update (or both) could mess up the entire thing. Hope this helps.
