Trying to play movie via quicktime..no sound

Hello. I am trying to play a movie through quick time and the movie plays perfectly fine but it does not have any sound. Does anybody know what I would have to do to fix that? My quick time is version 7.0.3

First of all, What format is your movie in? Sometimes, quicktime has problems understanding a movie in an unsupported format, that's probably your case.

Quicktime crashes vista when trying to play .mov

Hi all,
When trying to play .mov files with quicktime it instantly runs very slowly and then I get the blue screen of death and the system crashes. I can play the same .mov files in window media player, no problems. I was just wondering if anyone had found this and if there were any fixes. I have re installed quicktime which is the latest version. The Laptop has 3gb RAM a 2.4ghz Celeron and runs very fast with everything apart from quicktime. Its only a week old and has done this with quicktime from the start.

Okay, let's go digging.
1. Download and install the Windows debugging tools from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx
2. Go to Start, All Programs, Debugging Tools For Windows, Windbg
Once you open Windbg, you will presented with a blank screen.
3. Click on "File > Symbol File Path". Here you will enter the symbols
path. Symbols are needed to effectively debug.
The path will be:
SRVc:symbolshttp://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
4. Enter in this path and click OK. Now, go to "File > Save Workspace"
so that your symbols path is saved for future use.
5. Go to "File > Open Crash Dump" and load the file.
(An "Open Crash Dump" screen will appear ... doubleclick "Computer", doubleclick "Local Disk", doubleclick "Windows", doubleclick "Minidump", and doubleclick on one of the minidumps in there.)
*If you get a dialog at this point saying you don't have permission to open the file, try this:* OK out of the permission warning dialog. Right-click on the minidump file (In the "Open Crash Dump" screen), and select "Properties". Click the "Security" tab. Click the "Advanced" button. Click "Continue". Check the "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent" checkbox, and click OK. Click Yes when the Windows security box comes up. Close the "properties" screens at this point, and go back to "Open Crash Dump", and try doubleclicking on the minidump again.
You will/should get a message to save base workspace information. Choose no.
Now you will get a debugging screen. It takes a little bit to run it,
as the symbols have to be downloaded as they are needed.
After the "bugcheck analysis" part of the screen comes up, look for the component that seems to be causing the crash.
Let us know the precise name of the component. (Include any file name extensions like .dll or .sys.)
If you can, have a look at several of your nine crash dumps. Are all the crashes being caused by the same component? If not, could you let us know the names of the various components being cited in the various crash dumps?

Error message when trying to play movies and music videos

I am getting the below message on my TV screen when i try to play movies via my iPad device through airplay. The irony of it is that I watched a whole movie before this problem developed.
"This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP is not supported by your HDMI connection. This content required HDCP for playback"

Can no longer play movies via home sharing on Apple TV 2

I'm having trouble sharing movies via iTunes through home sharing. Everything I have is Mac, a 2008 iMac, Airport Extreme, (2) Apple TV 2's, and a Macbook Pro. Everything was fine with this entire setup with all of the movies I've ripped (using the Apple TV 2 settings in Handbrake) until Lion came out. Suddenly I got the 'Content cannot be displayed. Try again later' error message. After much searching, I found that disabling IPv6 was a good solution, temporarily, that is until Apple released iOS 5. I updated the ATV2's, iPhone, and iPad, and iMac with everything that came out during the update, and the issue came back.
I've tried everything I can think of, changing router channels, disabling IPv6 everywhere I saw it, wireless, hardwired, reloading the library, disabling the firewall, countless restarts of all my equipement etc. All of these movies worked perfectly before the updates, and suddenly I cant stream anything through my local MAC network.
Has anyone else seen this? Has anyone found any solutions for this problem? I could really use the help, Apple support is... limited.

Problem solved for me! After trying every possible setting on my equipment, including changing firmware revs on my router, rebuilding my library, re-encoding certain movies, changing all my iTunes, Network, Security, Sharing, and WiFi settings, I finally figured it out.
It looks to be a bug with the new iOS release V4.4 - Assuming you have your movies encoded in 5.1AC3 surround, you have to go into the Audio & Video settings on your ATV2, go down to Dolby Digital, and change the setting from Auto to On. For me at least, it was simple as that. I've tried all the same movies I was trying to play before, only then I was getting 'An error occurred loading this content.' After changing the setting from Auto to On, every single movie began working again, in full surround sound. To test it, I switched the setting back to Auto and the same problem came back. I'm sure Apple will have a fix for this later, but for now, we can assume 'Auto' means 'You cant stream your movies.'

Trying to play movie thru mini DVI port - display keeps switching back to desktop(?)

I'm not able to play a movie continously to my TV through the dvi port (via hdmi cable) using display mirroring. Picture shows up OK, but after the movie runs a very short time attention shifts back to the iTunes control screen. I've successfully mirrored the display on a TV before, but not tried to play a movie until now. After messing with all the perturbations for a couple of hours, now I can't even get the picture to show up, though everything appears to be acting the same as it was. The movie plays fine on the computer w/o mirroring. I've also tried copying the movie onto my iPad and running the movie from it, but get a message that it's not legal to do so (movie bought via iTunes downloaded onto the iMac (2008; 20-inch; 2.4GHz).

Drag applications from your main desktop off the right side of the screen and they will appear on the TV. This is the extended desktop mode.

Ipod shutting down when trying to play movies

My ipod is shutting down every time I try to play "movies". I have 4 dave mathews videos in quicktime(.mov) and Iv'e imported them into my itunes.I then converted them to play on ipod.I put them on my iopd, but if I try to play them I get a loud click from the ipod and it restarts,
What is the problem? any ideas?

I am having the same exact problem. The Ipod sounds like the hard disk revs, then stops. And it is doing this over and over and over again.

it's not just videos from the "outside" - i'm having this issue with brand new material downloaded from itunes. specifically, doctor who season 6 part 2 and futurama season 8.

You could add Perian. It may help (...or not).
Wait, you received and audio recording and you are trying to use a video player (vlc) to play it? What kind of file is it? Does it have a filename extension? If it is .wmv then you might want to install Flip4Mac. Then you could play it with QuickTime.

Trying to export movie from QuickTime Pro to AVI and getting white screen

I am trying to export a movie from QuickTime Pro to an an AVI file. It goes through the process as if everything has worked, but when I open the finished file, all I get is a white screen with no audio or picture.
I need to save lectures from school from the school website to my computer so that I can watch them when I do not have internet access. QuickTime gives me the option to save the video straight from the web, but as soon as I turn off my AirPort it tells me that I need internet to continue watching the movie..
I need some way to get the files to my computer. Any suggestions?

AVI is just a container ... specifically, which codec are you using when exporting? And why export to AVI?

That usually means that your system doesn't have the codec installed needed to view the video, but your web browser is using a plugin that does. What format are the web videos? Flash?

Error when trying to play movie on atv

trying to play a movie thru on ipad thru atv and it gives me the error message: your apple tv is not authorized to play this content. Never had this problem before. What ives?

I fixed mine by unplugging apple tv for about five minutes, then plugging it back in.

after sept 12 update, i could not play movies or tv shows on itunes. did the uninstall/reinstall of itunes and quicktime. did the uncheck 3d video acceleration under quicktime perferences advanced tab. NONE OF THAT WORKED!!! finally saw someone's post about just dragging and dropping your movie over the quicktime icon. got a error message and then waited for my cursor to stop spinning (which it didn't) and after saying WTH, I just went ahead and clicked on the play button. GUESS WHAT? it worked and i was able to watch my movies without any hiccups or problems. FINALLY. and btw, this post was on a quicktime support community. thanks apple.

MBP temporarily freezes in finder and when playing movies in quicktime/VLC

Hi my MBP 2.16Ghz Core Duo on 10.5.2 has been hanging/freezing randomly for the last few weeks but it seems to be getting more frequent.
It primarily happens when watching movies in quicktime or vlc, the picture will freeze and the sound will skip like a stuck CD. But this happens with DVD and movies off my HD. Also it happens sometimes in the finder, for no apparent reason the cursor freezes and the system doesnt respond.
When it happens I cant move the mouse or do anything, its a total system freeze, but strangely if I pull out the power cord or the headphone jack, it starts running again as if nothing has happened. But it also freezes when i run off the battery, but then pulling out the headphones works as well.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix this weird problem?

I've excatly the same problem. That is, when I plug my 16:9 TV to the S video video output of my Mac, and set a 16/9 resolution for the tv (NOT 640x480 but 856x480, e.g.), the picture does not strech automatically on the tv, but it usually does stretch the pitcure with a dvd player (with a 16:9 disc of course).
Anyone, a solution?
Detail: a dvd player will send to the 16/9 TV some info in the video signal (even in cvbs, compositte video), to make the tv stretch the picture automatically. Apparently, the video card does NOT send this info, as a dvd player, or a 16/9 camera does.

Why is it that when iam trying to play movie in my iPad with netflix, it kept on shutting off?

What is it with Netflix and IPad that I have to open over and over again b/c it kept on shutting it off when trying to select movies from it's selection. It is sooo frustrating! That is the main reason why I purchased this IPad in the first place. Is it me or other have similar xperience? Is there anything that need to do?

Are you trying to access NetFlix movies through Safari? If you are, this is why you are experiencing problems. Instead, you need to go to the App Store and download the NetFlix App, sign in your account in the App and watch all you want.

ITunes stops running when trying to play movies

I have several movies loaded into iTunes but when I try to view them on my TV using Apple TV iTunes stops running and wants to close down.
I have played movies before without any issues but this has only happened in the last few days.
Does any one have a solution? The movies by the way haven't been purchased through the iTunes store.. they are my own DVD's
